  • This paper describes a case study on the R&D programs of fighter and attacker aircraft such as F-22A, F/A-18E/F, and T/A-50. F-22A and F/A-18E/F were developed in same age. The performance of each program was, however extremely different. F-22A program results in a lot of cost overrun and schedule delay. On the other hand F/A-18E/F program met the cost, schedule, and performance goals. In the T/A-50 program with a super-sonic advanced trainer, T-50 was also developed successfully on planned cost and time by Korea Air-force and KAI. This paper derives key elements for the success of the military aircraft R&D program through lessons learned from th e case study. Each program is analyzed in terms of its background, planning and management.

  • Purpose: We analyzed the influence of myopic's eye-glasses wearing on myopia progress after cycloplegic refraction. Methods: The 33 people (66 eyes) were school children from 8 years to 12 years having no experience eye-glasses wearing, they were taken cycloplegic refraction at the 100th, the 200th and 300th days in order to evaluate myopia progression. We investigated the eye-glasses wearing group (experimental group, 32 eyes) and the non-eye-glasses wearing group (control group, 34 eyes). The eye-glasses power of the experimental group were -0.50 D, -0.75 D, -1.00 D, -1.25 D and -1.50 D. We compared experimental group with control group for myopia progress according to period, age, and refraction error and investigated the myopia progress according to the eye-glasses power of experimental group. Results: At the 300th day from the first cycloplegic refaction, spherical equivalent for the experimental group increased as -1.03${\pm}$0.43 D (t=13.36, p<0.001) and for the control group increase as -0.61${\pm}$0.35 D (t=10.05, p<0.001) and two groups were statistical difference. Myopia power for experimental group increased 60.75%, for control group increased 56.66% at the 300 days. According to eye-glasses power increased 41.19${\pm}$15.25% at -1.50 D, 36.74${\pm}$19.29% at -1.25 D, 56.57${\pm}$20.21% at -1.00 D, 87.26${\pm}$49.38% at -0.75 D and 106.69${\pm}$59.60% at -0.50 D. Conclusions: The myopia power for the eye-glasses wearing group was 0.46 D faster than the non-eye-glasses wearing group at the 300th day from the first cycloplegic refraction. We will consider the effect of non-eye-glasses wearing to protect the progressing myopia and prescribe the under correction for school children having no experience eye-glasses wearing.

  • In this.paper, we introduce design and implementation results of the single balanced diode mixer for European point-to-point microwave radio in order to improve flatness performance. When a resonator such as RF filter is integrated with a mixer, impedance characteristic of 50 ohm is maintained only in RF band, not in LO band resulting deterioration of flatness performance because of LO power variation on the diode. In the paper, we suggest a design method of mixer integrated with image rejection filter and LO harmonic filter to have a better performance of flatness using embedding electrical length between filter and mixer's port. Frequency specification of fabricated mixer is $21.2{\sim}22.6\;GHz$ for RF, $19.32{\sim}20.72\;GHz$ for LO and 1.88 GHz+/-50 MHz for IF, respectively. Measured results show conversion loss of 8.5 dB, flatness of 2 dB, input PldB of 8 dBm, IIP3 of 15 dBm under LO power level of 10 dBm. Return losses of RF, LO and IF port are under -12 dB, -10 dB and -5 dB, respectively. Isolations of LO/RF and LO/IF are 20 dB and 50 dB, respectively.

  • This study was done to ivestigate the fabrics thatminimized harmfulness of UVB(ultraviolet B) and that might product Vit. {{{{ {D }`_{3 } ^{ } }} by UVB. Twelve female subjects wearing in three different types i.e fabric A(UVB 100% protection) fabric B(UVB 50% protection) and bikinii were exposed to outdoor environment (Air Temp : 25℃, 42% R,H Air velocity : 0.13m/s UV does :6KJ/m2) Blood samples were taken 24 hours before the after the experiment in order to examine concentration of vit.{{{{ {D }`_{3 } ^{ } }} in the blood. During the experiment axillary temperature skin temperature of 7 areas(forehead Chest Upper arm, Hand Thigh Lower leg, Foot) were measured. The more irradiated areas by UVB were the more the concentration of serum 25(OH){{{{ {D }`_{3 } ^{ } }} were significantly. Mean skin temperature was significantly low levekl in wearing the fabric of UVB 50% protection (p<0.001) Axillary temperature was significantly high level in wearing the fabric of UVB 50% protection (p<0.001). Therefore the fabric of UVB 50% protection intercepts the radiation and has advantage to give off body heat over other fabrics

  • The effects of concave hemispherical surface curvature on the local heat transfer from a turbulent round impinging jet were experimentally investigated. The liquid crystal transient method was used for these measurements. This method, which is a variation on the transient method, suddenly exposes a preheated wall to an impinging jet while video recording the response of liquid crystals for the measurement of the surface temperature. The Reynolds number ranges from Re=11,000 to 50,000, the nozzle-to- surface distance from L/d=2 to 10, and the surface curvature from D/d=6 to 12.The present results are also compared to those for the flat plate case. In the experiment, the local Nusselt numbers tend to increase in all regions with an increasing surface curvature. The maximum Nusselt number for all Reynolds numbers occurred at L/d .ident. 6 and a second maximum in the Nusselt number occurred at R/d .ident. 2 for both Re=23,000 and Re=50,000 in the case of L/d=2 and for Re=50,000 only in the case of L/d=4. Meanwhile, as the surface curvature increases, the value of the secondary maximum Nusselt number decreases. All the other cases exhibit monotonically decreasing values of the Nusselt number along the curved surface. The stagnation point Nusselt numbers are well correlated with Re, L/d, and D/d.

  • To assess the preference and efficacy of empirical fitting methods with spheric and aspheric RGP lenses. Methods: Healthy 37 subjects were fitted with spheric design (diameter 9.3 mm) on right eye and aspheric design (dia 9.6 mm) on the left eye. Base curves which were fitted empirically (using on-K, Kavg-0.50D (or 1.00D) and manufacturer's recommended fitting guide) were compared with another base curve which obtained the best diagnostic fit with spheric and aspheric RGP lenses. The preference and fitting type (lid attachment or interpalpebral) for two design lenses were investigated 2 weeks after fitting RGP lenses. Results: Of 33 successful RGP lens-wearing subjects, 76% preferred spheric design compared with 24% of aspheric RGP lens wearers. Sixty seven percent were fitted with lid-attachment in spheric lenses, whereas 64% were fitted with lid-attachment in aspheric lenses. The acceptable fit success rates within ${\pm}$0.50D of base curves were 97% for the on-K fit, 100% for the Kavg-0.50D fit and 100% of the manufacturer's guide fit compared with the diagnostic fit in spheric design, whereas 91%, 79% and 94% reported on-K, Kavg-1.00D and manufacturer's guide, respectively, in aspheric design. Conclusions: Although aspheric RGP lenses are more popular in the Korean market, it is still preferable to fit subjects with spheric RGP lenses. Empirical fitting may be best accomplished with the spheric lenses using Kavg-0.50D fit and the manufacturer's fitting guide, whereas aspheric RGP lens designs are unacceptable lens fit based on empirical fitting.

  • Three experiments were conducted to determine the nutritional value of wheat gluten (WG) and spray-dried porcine plasma (SDPP) in diets for nursery pigs. In Exp. 1, 120 weanling pigs (5.7 kg avg initial BW) were used in a 35-d growth assay. Treatments for d 0 to 14 were: 1) dried skim milk (DSM)-dried whey-SBM based control; 2) WG to replace the protein from DSM; 3) SDPP; and 4) WG-SDPP (50:50 blend on a protein basis) to replace the protein from DSM. From d 14 to 35, all pigs were fed a common corn-SBM-whey-based diet. For d 0 to 14, there were no differences in ADG, ADFI, and gain/feed (p>0.11). However, for d 14 to 35, pigs fed diets with WG had greater gain/feed than those fed SDPP (p<0.05), and pigs fed diets with the WG-SDPP blend had greater ADG than pigs fed diets with WG or SDPP alone (p<0.07). In a second experiment, 60 weanling pigs (5.1 kg avg initial BW) were used in a 28-d growth assay. All pigs were fed the WG-SDPP diet fed in Exp. 1 for d 0 to 14, and changed to experimental diets for d 14 to 28. Treatments were: 1) the whey-SBM-based diet used for d 14 to 28 in Exp. 1; or 2) a whey-SBM based diet with 3% added SDPP. There were no differences in ADG, ADFI, gain/feed, or apparent digestibilities of DM and N among treatments for d 14 to 28 or overall (p>0.14). In a third experiment, 150 weanling pigs (5.6 kg avg initial BW) were used in a 32-d growth assay to determine the optimal blend of WG and SDPP for use after weaning. The SDPP was added as 8% of the control diet, and WG was substituted on a protein basis to yield the desired SDPP:WG blends. Treatments were (d 0 to 14): 1) SDPP; 2) 75% SDPP and 25% WG; 3) 50% SDPP and 50% WG; 4) 25% SDPP and 75% WG; and 5) WG. As in Exp. 1, all pigs were switched to a common corn-SBM-whey-based diet for d 14 to 32. For d 0 to 14, ADG and ADFI increased as replacement of the SDPP was increased up to 50% and decreased when more of the SDPP was removed from the diet (quadratic effects, p<0.004 and 0.02, respectively). Apparent digestibilities of DM and N (at d 13) were not affected by treatments (p>0.18). For d 14 to 32, treatments did not affect ADG (p>0.2), although there were quadratic responses in ADFI (p<0.04), with pigs fed the 50:50 blend suggested the greatest intake of feed. For the overall experimental period (d 0 to 32), ADG, ADFI, and gain/feed increased as WG was used to replace as much as 50% of the SDPP (quadratic effects p<0.04, 0.02, and 0.06, respectively). In conclusion, WG can successfully replace up to 50% of the SDPP in a complex nursery diet, when SDPP is included at the 8% level. There is no advantage to keeping SDPP in the diet after Phase I (d 0 to 14).

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution and correlation of accommodative lag with refractive error. Method: We had tested the clinical refraction and the accommodative lag in clinically normal 49 young adults (total 98 eyes) aged 18 to 25 years without abnormal binocular function. Monocular and binocular accommodative lag were tested with 0.50 D cross-cylinder lens and near vision test chart which had cross-hairs after full correction of LogMAR visual acuity over 0.05. Results: There was no statistical differences in monocular accommodative lag between right ($0.64{\pm}0.64$ D) and left eye ($0.63{\pm}0.64$)(p=0.858). The accommodative lag of male was higher than female and the range of the value was broader than female in binocular accommodative lag (p=0.015). The wider the inter-pupillary distance was, the higher the accommodative lag was (p=0.003). However, there were no differences with age (p=0.800) and dominant eye (p=0.402). The ranges of accommodative lag of low, middle, and high myopia were 0.75 ~ -0.25 D, 1.25 ~ -0.50 D, and 1.50 ~ -0.75 D, respectively, and the regression was 'y = -0.03953x+0.09205'. Conclusions: These data suggest that clinically normal young adults with high amounts of refractive error have more variable accommodative lag and increased spherical equivalent refraction.

  • The present study, which is about a ceramic waveguide filter for UMTS, designed a filer using a circuit and structure simulator, suggested a design method at a required frequency band, and developed a waveguide filter, which can be applied at a power of over 50W and be miniaturized, through implementing the design and examining related variables and characteristics. In the results of designing a waveguide filter with the center frequency of 1,950 MHz and 2,140 MHz and examining its characteristics, bandwidth was 60MHz, insertion loss was below 1.0dB, return loss was over 20dB, and attenuation at the relative frequency band was over 60dB. In the results of a power station test, the characteristics did not change and internal temperature was below $30^{\circ}C$ at 50.8W, and this confirmed that the filter is usable at over 50W.
