  • In this paper, it is investigated that the limitation due to the asymmetry of optical power and chromatic dispersion with respect to optical phase conjugator (OPC) for compensating optical signal distortion in WDM system is overcomed by using OPC position offset and optimal dispersion coefficients of fiber sections, which depend on OPC position offset. It is confirmed that overall WDM channels are efficiently compensated by applying the optimal parameter values obtained from the proposed method into 24 channels ${\times}40$ Gbps WDM system with non zero - dispersion shifted fiber (NZ-DSF) of 1, 000 km, such as power penalties of inter-channel are reduce to almost 3.5 dB from the infinite value. It is also confirmed that the flexible design of WDM system with OPC is possible by using the optimal parameters, in which OPC is placed at ${\pm}15km$ from 500 km for efficiently compensating overall channels. Thus, the methods proposed in this research will be expected to alternate with the method of making a symmetrical distribution of power and local dispersion in real optical link which generates a serious problem if it was not made but it is the condition in the case of applying the OPC into multi-channels WDM system.

  • In this paper, the six sigma scheme is employed together with the rigid-viscoplastic finite element method to obtain the optimal metal flow lines in hot press forging. In general, the six sigma process is consisted of following five steps : define, measure, analyze, improve and control. Each step Is investigated in detail to meet customer's requirements through improvement of product quality. A forging simulator, AFDEX-2D, is used for analysis of the metal flow lines of a multi-stage hot forging process under various conditions of major factors, determined at each step of the six sigma process. The analyzed results are examined in order to reveal the effects of major factors on the metal flow lines and the formed shapes. The effects are used to find an optimal process and the optimal process with die is devised and tested. The comparison between required metal flow lines and experiments shows that the approach is effective for optimal process in hot forging design considering metal flow lines.

  • In order to satisfy the extraction and use of information such as estimates and processes required in the design and construction stages of BIM, which is an expectation of overall construction operation for the design and construction stage of domestic buildings, it is insufficient to supply and apply mobile technologies or terminals. In this paper, standardization of BIM-based processes from the design stage to the construction stage is proposed as an efficient construction system method through mobile-based simulation and test-bed case analysis review. The current status and potential of BIM application were identified through theoretical review of BIM and case studies at home and abroad. In addition, the overall flow of the project and the direction of effective process construction were investigated through each process by 3D, 4D, and 5D execution stage and the role of each collaborator. 4D building process BIM simulation system using mobile was implemented by applying a visualization engine that simulates process information, object information connection module, and related object information. Therefore, it was possible to minimize the possibility of re-construction of the BIM design and construction process model through the visualization of 2D drawings based on the 3D model of the building and the review of errors and interferences in the drawings. In addition, in the implementation of simulation for each process of the construction process through mobile devices, it was possible to support construction progress and process management according to the optimal option selected by the user.

  • For the proper cooling of in-wheel motor, the cooling channel should have the characteristics which are low pressure drop and adequate cooling oil supply to motor part. In this study, the flow performance of cooling channel for in-wheel motor was evaluated and the shape of the channel was optimized. First, the pressure drop and flow distribution characteristics of the initial channel model were evaluated using numerical analysis. Also, by the result of analysis and design modification, 4 design parameters of the channel were selected. Second, using the Taguchi optimal method, the cooling channel was optimized. In the method, nine models with different levels of the design parameters were generated and the flow characteristics of each models was estimated. Base on the result, the main effect of the design parameters was founded and optimized model was obtained. For the optimized model, the pressure drop and oil flow rate were about 0.196 bar and 0.207 L/min, respectively. The pressure drop decreased by about 0.3 bar and the oil flow rate to the motor part increased by about 0.2 L/min compared to the initial model.

  • Thermal-fluid analysis was performed to understand the thermal behavior in the horizontal CVD reactor thereby to design a susceptor which has a uniform deposition rate during silicon EPI growing. Four different types of susceptor designs, standard (no hole susceptor), hole $\sharp$1 (240 mm), hole $\sharp$2 (150 mm) and hole $\sharp$3 (60 mm), were simulated by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tool. Temperature, gas flow, deposition rate and growth rate were calculated and analyzed. The degree of flatness of EPI wafer loaded on the susceptor was computed in terms of silicon growth rate. The simulation results show that the temperature and thermal distribution in the wafer are greatly dependent on inner diameter of hole susceptor and demonstrate that the introduction of hole in the susceptor can degrade wafer flatness. Maximum temperature difference appeared around holes. As the diameter of the hole decreases, flatness of the wafer becomes poor. Among the threes types of susceptors with the hole, optimal design which resulted a good uniform flatness ($5\%$) was obtained when using hole $\sharp$1.

  • Auxetic is a structure that behave as negative Poisson's ratio. It is known for high mechanical property like energy absorption and destruction toughness so far. In this paper, we aimed to design auxetic structure which has small internal energy when force is applied and high NPR and over 50N/mm stiffness by using optimization method. We defined length(L), thickness(t), angle(${\theta}_1$, ${\theta}_2$) as design factors and also von-Mises stress, NPR, stiffness as reaction factors. We used Box-Behnken method and conducted 4factors - 3levels experiment design. We also analyzed each models by using CSD_EPLAST, Edison program, and did extra analysis for more accurate results. Finally, we found out the optimal design factors which is satisfied aimed value and increased reliability through factor analysis and validity verification.

  • In this paper, the aerodynamic design process of wind turbine blades is established. The optimization design strategy is presented and the constraints that must be reviewed during the aerodynamic design process are summarized. Based on this, this study developed a BEMT-based aerodynamic optimal design program that can be applied easily to actual work, not only for research purposes, but also can be integrated from the initial concept design stage to the final 3D shape detail design stage. The developed program AeroDA consisted of a concept design module, basic design module, optimal TSR module, local shape optimization module, performance analysis module, design verification module, and 3D shape generation module. Using the developed program, an improved design of the 5MW blade by NREL was made, and it was confirmed that this program could be used for design optimization. In addition, a 10kW blade aerodynamic design and turbine detailed performance analysis were carried out, and it was verified by a comparison with the commercial program DNVGL Bladed.

  • Statements of problem: All ceramic fixed partial denture cores can be made by the slip casting method and the advanced alumina tape method. The fracture resistance of these core connector areas is relatively low. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to standardize the appropriate volumetric figure and location of the connectors in the alumina core fabricated in alumina tape to be used in fixed partial dentures by way of topology optimization. Material and method: A maxillary anterior three-unit bridge alumina core with teeth form and surrounding periodontal apparatus model was used to ultimately design the most structurally rigid form of the connector. Loadings from a $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ to the axis of each tooth were applied and analyzed with the 3-D finite element analysis method. Using the results from these experiments, the topology optimization was applied and the optimal reinforcement layout of connector was obtained and the detail shape in the fixed partial denture core was designed. Results: The modified prosthesis with the form of a bulk in the lower lingual surface of the connector in the event, reduced the stress concentration up to 20% in the 3-D FEA. Conclusion: The formation of a bulk in the lower lingual connector area of an alumina core for a fixed partial denture decreases the stress to a clinically favorable measure but does not harm the esthetic point of view. This result illustrates the possibility of clinical application of the modified form designed by the topology optimization method.
