In this study, a cold forging process was developed for the roller tappet housing of an engine valvetrain system. A tappet sample was manufactured and subjected to an endurance test. The material properties were obtained from a compression test, and forging analysis was carried out to design a forging process using a commercial program, Deform-3D. The forging process was set up based on the analysis results, and a die set and sample tappet housing were manufactured. To evaluate the sample, the dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, parallelism, and concentricity were measured and confirmed. To evaluate the actuation and durability, a special test rig was developed to simulate the valvetrain system of the engine. An actuation test was performed based on the idle speed of a general diesel engine, and an endurance test was done based on the maximum speed. The results show minor wear of 0.002 mm. The developed test rig will be used to evaluate the actuation and durability of other valvetrain parts.
The situation of technology Predominance and the distribution of core technology were visually mapped thorough the investigation of technical trend during 20 years, which was provided with the analysis of patent information for the artificial skin. Therefore, it was expected that technology mapping by means of multilateral analysis method allowed a good grasp of current technology trend of the artificial skin and the subdivision into nation and a field of research presents the direction of R&D. In the early R&D stage of artificial skin, the preparation technology of filters implantable into the living body including nursing devices, bandages, and dressings or absorbent pads (A6IF-002/10) was on the rise in research field of artificial skin until 1980's. And then the materials technology for coating prostheses (A6l L-027/00)was leading the core technology of artificial skin. Also, Nowadays the fusion technology connected the material technology with the cultivation technology of undifferentiated human or animal cells/tissues including culture media (C l2N-005/00, C 12N-005/06) was highlighted all over the world.
The rate Constants and energies of activation for the Combustion reaction of Korean anthracites have obtained by DTA method using the following rate equation derived by authors. $K=\frac{C_3{\cdot}W_0}{{\Delta}H{\cdot}{\Delta}C{\cdot}M{\cdot}S_A}(\frac{dy}{dt}+A(y-y_3))$ The anthracites of various ranks were treated at the different temperatures in the furnace. The probable combustion reaction mechanisms have discussed with the results obtained by the X-ray diffraction method, IR spectroscophic analysis, and gas chromatography. By the intensity of d(002) Values, it was confirmed that a parts of the amorphous carbon was converted to graphite form by heat treatment. The appreciable amounts of CO gas were expelled in the combustion process and it appeared that a little amount of the gas came from the catalytic decomposition of anthracites, The functional groups such as -OH, -SH, -NH, $-CH_2-CH_3,$ -CO, -COC-. and polycondensed aromatic rings in anthracites have observed by IR spectrophotometric analysis.
Chicken breast meat was injected with calcium chloride alone and in combination with lactic acid (0.01% and 0.002%, respectively). The inhibitory effects of the treatments on microbial growth were determined in the injected chicken breast meat stored at $4^{\circ}C$ under aerobic packaging condition for 0, 3, and 7 d. Calcium chloride combined with 0.002% and 0.01% lactic acid reduced microbial counts by 0.14 and 1.08 Log CFU/g, respectively, however, calcium chloride alone was unable to inhibit microbial growth. Calcium chloride combined with 0.01% lactic acid was the most effective antimicrobial treatment and resulted in the highest initial redness value. Calcium chloride alone and combined with lactic acid suppressed changes in pH and the Hunter color values during storage. However, injection of calcium chloride and lactic acid had adverse effects on lipid oxidation and sensory characteristics. The higher TBARS values were observed in samples treated with calcium chloride and lactic acid when compared to control over the storage period. Addition of calcium chloride and lactic acid resulted in lower sensory scores for parameters tested, except odor and color, compared to control samples. Therefore, the formulation should be improved in order to overcome such defects prior to industrial application.
Microalgae are the potential bioindicators of environmental changes, for the environmental risk assessment as well as to set limits for toxic chemical release in the aquatic environment. Here, we evaluated the effects of two endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), namely bisphenol A (BPA) and Aroclor 1016, on the green algae Tetraselmis suecica, diatom Ditylum brightwellii, and dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum. Each species showed wide different sensitivity ranges when exposed to these two EDCs; the 72 h effective concentration ($EC_{50}$) for these test species showed that Aroclor 1016 was more toxic than BPA. $EC_{50}$ values for the diatom D. birghtwellii were calculated at 0.037 mg/L for BPA and 0.002 mg/L for Aroclor 1016, representing it was the most sensitive when compared to the other species. In addition, these results suggest that these EDC discharge beyond these concentrations into the aquatic environments may cause harmful effect to these marine species.
Piezoelectric ZnO thin films were deposited on 7059 glass substrate by rf magnetron sputtering. The effects of deposition parameter, such as rf power, gas pressure and $O_{2}$/Ar gas ratio, on the crystallinity and electrical properties of the deposited ZnO thin films were studied. It was found that the deposition rate was higher than the previously reported values. ZnO films were suitable for SAW filter since a standard deviation of XRD (002) peak rocking curve was less than $6^{\circ}$. ZnO thin films, which were deposited at $O_{2}$/Ar ratio larger than 25%, showed high resistance. SAW filter was fabricated using ZnO film, of which thickness was 0.25 of the wavelength of the propatating surface acoustic wave. The measured frequency response was consistent with the calculated one. The SAW filter had center frequency 39.08 MHz, phase velocity 2501 m/sec and insertion loss 29 dB.
The optimum concentrations of pH, sucrose and vitamins for the growth and tropane alkaloid production of hairy root clone DTLA9 (best growth line) were investigated. The optimum pH in growth and tropane alkaliod production of DTLA9 clone in SH (Schenk and Hildebrandt, 1972) basal medium without growth regulator were pH 6.3 and 6.5, respectively. Also, the optimum sucrose concentration in growth and tropane alkaliod production in the same medium were 3.0 and 2.8%, respectively. The optimum concentrations of ascorbic acid, D-pantothenate, nicotinic acid, pyridoxine, riboflavin, and thiamine on the growth of DTLA9 clone in SH basal medium without vitamins were 0.1 mM, 0.003 mM, 0.07 mM, 0.002 mM, 0.025 mM, and 0.01 mM, respectively. In particular, supplement of 0.1 mM ascorbic acid to SH basal medium without vitamins stimulated the tropane alkaloid production.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Diabetes is diagnosed after an average of 10-12 years of diabetic development. Strict glycemic control in diabetic patients promotes the normalization of blood glucose and reduces cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and diabetic complications. Therefore, early diagnosis in non-aware individuals is very important. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Clinical indices and nutrient intakes in Korean diabetic adults aged 19-64 years were examined according to the awareness of diabetes, using 2012 and 2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data. The aware group was defined as individuals who were aware of having diabetes from diagnosis by physician before the survey and the non-aware group as individuals who were not aware of having diabetes. RESULTS: The average age was higher in the aware group compared to the non-aware group in both men (P = 0.002) and women (P = 0.004). The prevalences of hypertension and dyslipidemia were not different between the two groups, but the diagnosis rate was significantly lower in the non-aware group. In the non-aware group, total and LDL-cholesterol were significantly higher (P < 0.001), the risk for total cholesterol over 240 mg/dL was 3.4 times (95% CI: 1.58-7.52) higher (P = 0.002) and the risk for LDL-cholesterol over 160 mg/dL was 4.59 times (95% CI: 2.07-10.17) higher (P < 0.001). The calorie intake of the female non-aware group was significantly higher compared to the female aware group (P = 0.033). CONCLUSION: The results suggested that the recommendation of screening test is necessary even for young adults. Studies on the methodology for early diagnosis of diabetes are also needed.

In this paper, we propose an expanded patching technique in order to reduce the server network bandwidth requirements to support true VoD services in VoD Systems. Double Patching, which is a typical multicast technique, ensures that a long patching stream delivers not only essential video data for the current client but also extra video data for future clients. Since the extra data may include useless data, it results in server network bandwidth wastage. In order to prevent a server from transmitting useless data, the proposed patching technique uses a new kind of stream called a linking stream. A linking stream is transmitted to clients that have received short patching streams, and it plays a linking role between a patching stream and a regular stream. The linking stream enables a server to avoid transmitting unnecessary data delivered by a long patching stream in Double Patching, so the server never wastes its network bandwidth. Mathematical analysis shows that the proposed technique requires less server network bandwidth to support true VoD services than Double Patching. Moreover, simulation results show that it has better average service latency and client defection rate compared with Double Patching.
We investigate the performance of multi-body wave energy converters (WECs). This investigation considers multiple scattering of water waves by the buoys of a WEC under the generalized mode approach. Predominantly, the effect of a WEC's configuration on its energy extraction is studied in this research. First, single-row terminator and single-column attenuator arrays of vertical cylinders have been studied. The performance of these attenuator arrays shows that the wall effect induced by the periodic buoys influences the wave propagation and energy extraction in these WECs. Further studies show that a single-row terminator array of vertical cylinders performs better than the corresponding single-column attenuator array. Subsequently, multi-row terminator arrays of vertical cylinders are investigated by conducting a parametric study. This parametric study shows that the hydrodynamic property of three resonance phenomena makes energy extraction efficiency drop down, and the magnitude of energy extracted oscillates between the resonance points in these WECs. Finally, a 4×8 terminator array of vertical cylinders is studied to determine the effect of various dx (x-directional distance between adjacent rows) within this WEC on its performance. In particular, this study enforces at least two equal dx values within the 4×8 terminator array of vertical cylinders. It shows that a small value of this dx leads to better energy extraction efficiency in some of these various dx arrays than that of a corresponding regular array with the same dx.
