실린더 형상 변화가 실린더 주위 강제대류에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Effect of the Cylinder Shape Modification on the Forced Convection Around a Circular Cylinder)

  • Direct numerical simulation are performed in order to investigate the effect of the circular cylinder shape on the forced convection around a circular cylinder at the Reynolds number of 300 and Prandtl number of 0.71. Three-dimensional characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer around the smooth, wavy and torsional cylinders are investigated. A wavy cylinder has the sinusoidal variation in the cross sectional area along the spanwise direction with the wave length of ${\pi}/3$ and wavy amplitude of 0.1. A torsional cylinder has the twisted elliptic cross section with a torsional period of ${\pi}/2$ and an axis ratio of 1.35 corresponding to the major axis of 1.15 and the minor axis of 0.85. The value of time-and surface-averaged drag coefficient for the smooth cylinder is similar to that for the wavy cylinder, but larger than that for the torsional cylinder. The time and surface-averaged lift coefficient for the smooth cylinder is larger than that for the wavy and torsional cylinders. The time-averaged local heat transfer rate for the wavy and torsional cylinders shows different distribution along the circumferential direction, compared to that for the smooth cylinder because of the shape change in the spanwise direction for the cases of the wavy and torsional cylinders.

Experimental study of cactus-like body shape on flow-induced vibration mitigation of clustered cylinders

  • Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) is a major contributor to the fatigue damage of marine risers which are often arranged in an array configuration. In addition to helical strakes and fairings, studies have been strived in searching for possible VIV suppression techniques. Inspired by giant Saguaro Cacti, flexible cylinders of different cactus-shaped cross sections were tested in a water tunnel facility, and test results showed that cactus-like body shapes reduced VIV responses of a cylinder at no cost of significant increase of drag. A series of experiments were conducted on a pair of two tandem-arranged flexible cylinders and an array of four cylinders in a square configuration to investigate the effects of wake on the dynamic responses of cylinders and the VIV mitigation effectiveness of the cactus-like body shape. Results showed that the cylinders in a square configuration, either at the upstream or downstream positions, might have larger dynamic responses than those of a single cylinder. The cactus-like body shape could mitigate VIV responses of cylinders at upstream positions in an array configuration; however, similar to helical strakes, the mitigation efficiency was reduced on downstream cylinders. Note that the cactus-like cross-sectional shape investigated was not optimized for VIV suppression. The present study indicates that the modification of the cross-sectional shape of a cylinder to a well-designed cactus-like shape may be used as an alternative technique to mitigate the VIV of marine risers.

  • An infrared temperature sensor module developed for the detection of defects in a plate was modified to use in a cylinder. A set of optical fiber leads and a mechanism maintaining sensor-object distance constant were utilized for the modification of the IR sensor module. The detection performance was experimentally investigated, and the measured temperature was also compared with computed temperature distribution. The experimental outcome indicates that the detection of a simulated defect is readily available. The temperature distribution is better for defect detection than that with the previous device. In addition, the measured distribution is comparable to the calculated one using a heat conduction equation. The developed device of defect detection is suitable to be utilized in chemical processes where most of vessels and piping systems are in the shape of a cylinder.

CAE를 이용한 파워트레인의 방사소음 저감을 위한 구조변경 (Structural Modification for the Reduction of Radiation Noise of a Powertrain Based on CAE Technology)

  • One of the key elements in efforts to minimize noise radiation from a powertrain is the knowledge of the main radiating component and the relation between the surface vibration of a powertrain and the sound pressure. In this research, the powertrain model is developed based on FEM(finite element method). This model is applied to the prediction of the vibration of a powertrain by using ADAMS and the radiation noise by using BEM(boundary element method). According to this numerical analysis, the surface vibration of a powertrain is investigated as a source of radiated noise. This surface vibration is caused by the 1st order natural vibration of the cylinder block and its mode shape is the torsion mode. Therefore, this mode shape is modified to reduce the surface vibration of the powertrain. The radiation noise of the modified powertrain is also reduced to $5{\sim}12\;dB$. This modification is very successful for the noise reduction based on the CAE technology.

시판 복합레진의 물성에 관한 실험적 연구 (AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON SOME PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPOSITE RESINS - A study of the hardness, water sorption and solubility)

  • This study was done to evaluate the hardness, water sorption and solubility values of twelve well known composite resins, and to compare each other. For the hardness test, the specimens were made in cylinder form with 4mm in diameter and 2mm in thickness as a modification of the American Society for Testing and New Materials, 1966, and for water sorption and solubility tests, the specimens were prepared in same shape of 20mm in diameter and 0.5mm in thickness as a modification of the ADA Specification No. 12. The results were obtained as follow: 1. The hardness range were from 17.9 to 87.5 respectively. As time passed by, the noticable change was evident in early 12 hours. 2. Of the water sorption. the range was from 0.38 to 0.93. The significant change was appeared within 12 hours and on 3 day by 1 week except four brands. 3. Of the water solubility, the range was 0.06 to 0.16. The highest value was found within early 24 hours. 4. Generally, four brands could be chosen as preferable products of hardness. water sorption and solubility tests according to the ADA Specification No. 12.

  • 본 실험에서는 민꽃게 통발의 가장 바람직한 형 및 구조를 확정하기 위해 사구원통형과 사구각주형 통발을 고안하고, 수조실험 및 해상실험을 통해 그들의 민꽃게 유입성능 및 어획성능을 재래의 이구각주형 및 이구원통형 통발과 비교하였다. 그 결과, 수조실험을 통한 유입성능은 사구식에서 좋고 이구식에서 나쁜 경향이었는데, 구체적으로는 이구식의 경우 각주형보다 원통형에서 약간 더 좋았고, 사구식의 경우는 원추형보다 각주형에서 약간 더 좋았다. 해상실험을 통한 어획성능도 전체적으로는 비슷하였는데, 사구원추형이 이구원통형과 어획의 유의차가 없다는 것만이 달랐다. 따라서, 민꽃게 통발의 가장 바람직한 형은 사구각주형이라는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Coincidence summing correction for a voluminous 152Eu source

  • A code is developed to correct for the coincidence summing effect in detecting a voluminous gamma source, and this code is applied to a152Eu standard source as a test case. The source is 1000 mL of liquid in a cylindrical shape. To calculate the coincidence summing effect, the cylindrical source is considered as 10(radial) × 8(height) sectional sources. For each sectional source, the peak efficiency and total efficiency are obtained by Monte Carlo simulation at each energy for 10 energies between 50 keV and 2000 keV. The efficiencies of each sector are then expressed as polynomials of gamma energy. To calculate the correction coefficients for the coincidence summing effect, the KORSUM code is used after modification. The magnitudes of correction are 4%-17% for the standard 152Eu source measured in this study. The relative deviation of 4.7% before the coincidence correction is reduced to 0.8% after the correction is applied to the efficiency based on the measured gamma line. Hence, this study has shown that a new method has been developed that is applicable for correcting the coincidence effect in a voluminous source, and the method is applied to the measured data of a standard 152Eu cylinder source.

엔진 운전시 크랭크샤프트의 면내.외 모드의 거동 해석 (Analysis of the Crankshaft Behavior on In-plane and Out-plane Mode at the Firing Stage)

  • 4-실린더 엔진의 작동 시 크랭크샤프트의 기계적 거동을 해석하는 방법에 관한 연구 논문이다 이 해석의 목적은 모드 해석을 단순화 하기위해 Pin 과 Arm을 일정하게 가정하고, 이를 통해 단순화된 크랭크샤프트의 특성을 연구하는 것이며, 해석을 통하여 얻어진 전달 함수에서의 고유진동수와 모드 형상을 실험을 통한 모드 해석과 비교하였다. 시뮬레이션을 통한 결과와 실험을 비교한 결과 해석치와 실험치의 값이 일치함을 확인할 수 있었고 이를 통하여 해석 모델을 검증하였다. 또한 검증된 모델을 통하여 엔진 작동 시 크랭크샤프트의 특성을 해석하고자 하였다. 초기 연소 조건에 기초하여 주파수 영역에서 크랭크샤프트의 동적 거동을 해석하기 위한 새로운 방법을 기술하였다. 새로운 기법은 엔진의 작동 조건에서 저널 베어링과 밸런서의 형상 변경을 통하여 얻어진 에너지 값을 계산하기 위해서 RMS값을 이용하였다.

지르코니아 프라이머 종류에 따른 복합레진-지르코니아의 전단결합강도 (Effec of different zirconia primers on shear bond strengths of composite resin to bonded zirconia)

  • Purpose: The aim of this research was to evaluate the influence of different surface treatments on the shear bond strength of zirconia ceramic to composite resin. Methods: Seventy two cylinder-shape (diameter: 5 mm; height: 12 mm) blocks of experimental industrially manufactured Y-TZP ceramic were abraded with $125{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ particles and randomly divided into 4 groups. All the materials were categorized as group Gc(control group - composite resin veneering on zirconia surface), Gr - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of Rocatec system (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) group; Gz - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of Zirconia primer (Z-primer, Bisco, U.S.A) group; Gm - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of zirconia primer (Monobond plus, ivoclar vivadent AG, Liechtenstein) group. Two different zirconia primers and Rocatec system were used to zirconia cylinders (n=16) onto the zirconia surface. Zirconia specimens, polished and roughened, were pretreated and composite bilayer cylinders bonded using conventional adhesive techniques. Results: Shear bond strengths were analyzed using single-factor ANOVA(p<0.05). Bond strength values achieved after airbone particle abrasion and zirconia surface pre-treatments(p<0.05). Conclusion: Shear bond strength tests denmonstrated that zirconia primer is a viable method to improved bond strength between zirconia ceramic core and veneering composites.
