Usefulness Assessment of Automatic Analysis Program for Flangeless Esser PET Phantom Images (Flangeless Esser PET Phantom 영상 자동 분석 프로그램의 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: ACR (American College of Radiology) offers variable parameters to PET/CT quality control by using ACR Phantom. ACR Phantom was made to evaluate parameters which are uniformity, attenuation, scatter, contrast and resolution. Manual analysis method wasn't good for the use of QC because values of parameter were changed as it may user and it takes long time to analysis. Ki-Chun Lim, a nuclear scientist in AMC, developed program that automatically analysis values of parameter by using ACR Phantom to overcome above problems. In this study, we evaluated automatic analysis program's usability, through the comparing SUV of each method, reproducibility of SUV when repeated analysis and the time required. Materials and Methods: Using Flangeless Esser PET Phantom, the ideal ratio of 4 : 1 hot cylinder and BKG but it actually showed a ratio of 3.89 to 1 hot cylinder and BKG. SIEMENS Biograph True Point 40 was used in this study. We obtained images using ACR phantom at Fusion WB PET Scan condition (2 min/bed) and 120 kV, 100 mAs CT condition. Using True X method, 3 iterations, 14 subsets, Gaussian filter, FWHM 4 mm and Zoom Factor 1.0, $168{\times}168$ image size. We obtained Max. & Min. SUV and SUV Mean values at Cylinder (8, 12, 16, 25 mm, Air, Bone, Water, BKG) by automatic program and obtained SUV by manual method. After that, we compared manual and automatic method. we estimate the time required from opened the image data to final work sheet was completed. Results: Automatic program always showed same result and same the time required. At 8, 12, 16 and 25 m cylinder, manual method showed 6.69, 3.46, 2.59, 1.24 CV values. The larger cylinder size became, the smaller CV became. In manual method, bone, air, water's CV were over 9.9 except BKG (2.32). Obtained CV of Mean SUV showed BKG was low (0.85) and bone was high (7.52). The time required was 45 second, 882 second respectably. Conclusions: As a result of difference automatic method and manual method, automatic method showed always same result, manual method showed that the smaller hot cylinders became, the lager CV became. Hot cylinders mean region size, the smaller hot cylinder size becomes we had some trouble in doing ROI poison setting. And it means increase in variation of SUV. The Study showed the time required of automatic method was shorten then manual method.

  • The EGR is needed fur one of various strategies to reduce NOx emission. But to get the proper EGR rate, the intake and exhaust system become complicated. That is a reason why we consider using the internal EGR system. The internal EGR is a system which reduces NOx by controling the residual gas fraction in cylinder by changing valve timing and valve lift of intake and exhaust. In this paper, characteristics of volumetric efficiency and residual gas fraction in cylinder were investigated for various engine speeds by changing valve timing and valve lift of intake and exhaust in the 4 stroke-cycle diesel engine. Volumetric efficiency and residual gas fraction were calculated by the method of characteristics. As the results, residual gas fraction and volumetric efficiency in cylinder by variable valve timing were visualized.

Second Order Effect Induced by a Forced Heaving

  • In this paper, the $2^{nd}$ order hydrodynamic force effect of heaving submerged circular cylinder is considered, with the linear potential theory. Boundary value problem (BVP) is expanded up to the $2^{nd}$ order by using of the perturbation method and the $2^{nd}$ order velocity potential is calculated by means of integral equation technique using the classical Green's function expressed in cylindrical coordinates. The method of solving BVP is based on eigenfunction expansions. With different cylinder heights and heaving frequencies, graphical results are presented. As a result of the study, the cause of oscillatory force pattern is analyzed with the occurrence of negative added mass when a top of the cylinder gets closer to the free surface.

  • This paper describes a Neural Network based PD control scheme for motion control of pneumatic servo cylinder. Pneumatic systems have inherent nonlinearities such as compressibility of air and nonlinear frictions present in cylinder. The conventional linear controller is limited in some applications where the affection of nonlinear factor is dominant. A self-excited oscillation method is applied to derive the dynamic design parameters of linear model. Based on the parameters thus identified, a PD feedback compensator is designed first and then a neural network is incorporated. The experiments of a trajectory tracking control using the proposed control scheme are performed and a significant reduction in tracking error is achieved by comparing with those of a PD control.

Coolant Flow Characteristics and Cooling Effects in the Cylinder Head with Coolant Flow System and Local Water Passage (냉각수 공급방식 및 국부적인 물통로의 형상 변화에 따른 냉각수 유동특성 및 연소실 벽면의 냉각효과)

  • For the countermeasure of expected higher thermal load in miller cycle engine, coolant flows in the cylinder head of base engine with several coolant flow methods and drilled hole passages were measured by using PIV technique. And the cooling effect was evaluated by measurements of wall temperatures according to each coolant flow method. It was found that the series flow system was most suitable among the discussed 3 types of coolant flow methods since it had the best cooling effect in cylinder head by the fastest coolant flow velocity It was also found that for drilled water passage to decrease the large thermal load in exhaust valve bridge, nozzle type is more effective compared with round type of water passage, and its size has to be determined according to the coolant flow pattern and velocity in each cylinder.

Eigenfunction expansion solution and finite element solution for orthotropic hollow cylinder under sinusoidal impact load

  • The histories and distributions of dynamic stresses in an orthotropic hollow cylinder under sinusoidal impact load are obtained by making use of eigenfunction expansion method in this paper. Dynamic equations for axially symmetric orthotropic problem are founded and results are carried out for a practical example in which an orthotropic hollow cylinder is in initially at rest and subjected to a dynamic interior pressure $p(t)=-{\sigma}_0(sin{\alpha}t+1)$. The features of the solution appear the propagation of the cylindrical waves. The other hand, a dynamic finite element solution for the same problem is also got by making use of structural software (ABAQUS) program. Comparing theoretical solution with finite element solution, it can be found that two kinds of results obtained by two different solving methods are suitably approached. Thus, it is further concluded that the method and computing process of the theoretical solution are effective and accurate.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic wave scattering from a bianisotropicaly coated cylinder is formulated by using wave functions for bianisotropic media and boundary-value method. The cross section of the cylinder is made of a conducting core, a lossless dielectric layer which is both electrically magnetically bianisotropic, and a bianisotropic impedance sheet and a different uniaxial bianisotrpic coating. The solutions to arbitrary polarization angles are presented in two-dimensional. This paper presents and exact solution to the problem of scattering by a long composite circular cylinder using the boundary method. The validity of this solution is verified by comparing numerical results with those in literature. The numerical results for various geometrical and electrical parameters on bistatic scattering cross-section are presented.

Synthesis of Monodisperse Silica Particles using Rotating Cylinder Systems

  • Monodisperse silica nanospheres were synthesized by Stober method using rotating cylinder systems with batch or continuous manner. The particle size could be controlled by adjusting the reactant compositions such as the amount of monomer, catalyst, and water in the reaction mixture. The size and monodispersity of the ceramic particles could be controlled by changing the reaction medium with different alcohols other than ethanol or changing the reaction temperature. The effect of Taylor number (Ta) on the average diameter and standard deviation of silica particles were also studied by adjusting the rotation speed of inner cylinder, and the maximum diameter of particles was observed at Ta ${\approx}3,000$.

  • Modified-Shrink-Fit(MSF) method of compound cylinder is studied to increase elastic load carrying capacity (ELCC) of pressure vessel. The autofrettage and the shrink-fit processes are used to study the MSF process. Theoretical analyses based on the Tresca yield criterion, Hencky's total strain theory and elastic linearly strain-hardening material are carried out to derive closed form solutions. Experimental results are compared with theoretical results with various diameter ratios between outer (SM45C) and inner (SM20C) bloc cylinder. For various diameter ratios, increments of ELCC have errors in strains vs. internal loading pressures between experimental and theoretical results. But experimental results show good agreements with theoretical results in reyield pressurizing state. The increments of ELCC of compound cylinder manufactured by the MSF process is proved by measuring the residual stresses.

A Study on the Optimum Design of Exhaust System for 4 Cylinder Diesel Engine (4실린더 디젤기관 배기계의 최적설계에 관한연구)

  • Dynamic effect of gas in exhaust manifold influences the volumetric efficiency of the engine. Especially in case of multi-cylinder engine the shape of exhaust manifold is important for the opti-mum design of exhasut manifold complicated. In this paper the effects of exhaust manifold systems on volumetric efficiency were investigated for the 4 cylinder 4 stroke-cycle diesel engine. Volumetric efficiency was calculated by the method of characteristics. The calculation results coincided well the test results. This study showed that the appropriate position and diameter of exhaust manifold branch are important factors in increasing volumetric efficiency and decreasing pumping loss.
