Cyclic loading test of abnormal joints in SRC frame-bent main building structure

  • Due to functional requirements, SRC column-RC beam abnormal joints with characteristics of strong beam weak column, variable column section, unequal beam height and staggered height exist in the Steel reinforced concrete (SRC) frame-bent main building structure of thermal power plant (TPP). This paper presents the experimental results of these abnormal joints through cyclic loading tests on five specimens with scaling factor of 1/5. The staggered height and whether adding H-shaped steel in beam or not were changing parameters of specimens. The failure patterns, bearing capacity, energy dissipation and ductile performance were analyzed. In addition, the stress mechanism of the abnormal joint was discussed based on the diagonal strut model. The research results showed that the abnormal exterior joints occurred shear failure and column end hinge flexural failure; reducing beam height through adding H-shaped steel in the beam of abnormal exterior joint could improve the crack resistance and ductility; the abnormal interior joints with different staggered heights occurred column ends flexural failure; the joint with larger staggered height had the higher bearing capacity and stiffness, but lower ductility. The concrete compression strut mechanism is still applicable to the abnormal joints in TPP, but it is affected by the abnormal characteristics.

Development of a seismic retrofit system made of steel frame with vertical slits

  • In this study, a new seismic retrofit scheme of building structures is developed by combining a steel moment frame and steel slit plates to be installed inside of an existing reinforced concrete frame. This device has the energy dissipation capability of slit dampers with slight loss of stiffness compared to the conventional steel frame reinforcement method. In order to investigate the seismic performance of the retrofit system, it was installed inside of a reinforced concrete frame and tested under cyclic loading. Finite element analysis was carried out for validation of the test results, and it was observed that the analysis and the test results match well. An analytical model was developed to apply the retrofit system to a commercial software to be used for seismic retrofit design of an example structure. The effectiveness of the retrofit scheme was investigated through nonlinear time-history response analysis (NLTHA). The cyclic loading test showed that the steel frame with slit dampers provides significant increase in strength and ductility to the bare structure. According to the analysis results of a case study building, the proposed system turned out to be effective in decreasing the seismic response of the model structure below the given target limit state.

Damage Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Columns under Cyclic Loading

  • In this study, a numerical model for the simulation of reinforced concrete columns subject to cyclic loading is presented. The model consists of three separate models representing concrete, reinforcing steel bars and bond-slip between a reinforcing bar and ambient concrete. The concrete model is represented by the plane stress plastic-damage model and quadrilateral finite elements. The nonlinear steel bar model embedded in truss elements is used for longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars. Bond-slip mechanism between a reinforcing bar and ambient concrete is discretized using connection elements in which the hysteretic bond-slip link model defines the bond stress and slip displacement relation. The three models are connected in finite element mesh to represent a reinforced concrete structure. From the numerical simulation, it is shown that the proposed model effectively and realistically represents the overall cyclic behavior of a reinforced concrete column. The present plastic-damage concrete model is observed to work appropriately with the steel bar and bond-slip link models in representing the complicated localization behavior.

  • We introduce the concept of cyclic morphisms with respect to a morphism in the category of pairs as a generalization of the concept of cyclic maps and we use the concept to obtain certain sets of homotopy classes in the category of pairs. For these sets, we get complete or partial answers to the following questions: (1) Is the concept the most general concept in the class of all concepts of generalized Gottlieb subsets introduced by many authors until now? (2) Are they homotopy invariants in the category of pairs? (3) When do they have a group structure?.

Efficient membrane element for cyclic response of RC panels

  • This paper presents an efficient membrane finite element for the cyclic inelastic response analysis of RC structures under complex plane stress states including shear. The model strikes a balance between accuracy and numerical efficiency to meet the challenge of shear wall simulations in earthquake engineering practice. The concrete material model at the integration points of the finite element is based on damage plasticity with two damage parameters. All reinforcing bars with the same orientation are represented by an embedded orthotropic steel layer based on uniaxial stress-strain relation, so that the dowel and bond-slip effect of the reinforcing steel are presently neglected in the interest of computational efficiency. The model is validated with significant experimental results of the cyclic response of RC panels with uniform stress states.

  • 본 논문은 디스플레이 데이터 구동부에 사용되는 디지털 아날로그 컨버터를 위해 스위치 커패시터형 cyclic 디지털 아날로그 컨버터를 제안하고 특성을 검토한다. 본 제안의 디지털 아날로그 컨버터는 구성이 간단하여 저전력, 소면적의 디스플레이 구동 IC설계에 적합하다. 회로레벨 시뮬레이션을 통해 OP앰프 입력의 오프셋전압에 대한 영향이 적고 커패시터간의 부정합이 0.5% 정도까지는 회로성능에 별 영향이 없음을 검증한다.

  • In periodic cyclic structures, small property irregularity of their substructured often causes significant difference in their dynamic responses, which results in unpredicted premature failures. The small irregularity and the resulting phenomenon are called the mistuning and the vibration localization, respectively. In this paper a simple coupled multi-pendulum system is employed to investigate the effects of the stiffness mistuning and the phase difference in excitation force on the vibration localization of periodic cyclic structures.

Effects of Cyclic Structure of Ammonium Ions on Capacitance in Electrochemical Double Layer Supercapacitors

  • The conductivity of the electrolyte used plays a critical role in the optimization of the performance of electrochemical double layer capacitors. However, when the difference in the conductivities of different electrolytes is not significant (only 10-20%), the conductivity has little effect on the capacitance. On the other, unlike the conductivity and viscosity of the electrolyte, the cation size directly influences the capacitance. Cyclic ions have a smaller effective radius than that of the corresponding acyclic ions because the acyclic alkyl groups have a greater number of conformational degrees of freedom, such as the rotational, bending, and stretching modes. Consequently, because of the smaller effective size of the cyclic ions, cells containing electrolytes with such ions exhibit higher capacitances than do those with their acyclic counterparts.

Photochemistry and Thermochemistry of Picolyl Chlorides

  • Thermochemistry and photochemistry of picolyl chlorides were studied. The thermal reaction of 2-picolyl chloride in benzene afforded intermolecular condensation product. In the case of 3-picolyl chloride, this type of the reaction did not occur, but polymers were obtained. A cyclic hexamer, suggested by a molecular model, was not formed because of the steric strain and low reactivity. The thermal reaction of 4-picolyl chloride gave a cyclic hexamer as well as a polymer. The cyclic hexamer, identified by NMR spectrum, showed ${\lambda}_{max}$ at 460 nm. The cyclic hexamer was cloven to the linear structure. Photolysis of 2-picolyl chloride at 253.7 nm gave a para-isomer followed by polymerization. When a methyl hydrogen of 2-methylpyridine is substituted by $CH_3O$, iso-PrO, and EtO group, the photoisomerization to the corresponding anilines or para-substituted pyridines did not occur within the range of the time used for 2-picolyl chloride. Thermolysis of picolyl chlorides in an acidic methanol solution did not afford any product.

자갈궤도와 콘크리트궤도에서의 하중재하에 따른 노반거동 비교 (A Comparison of Behavior of the Roadbeds of Ballasted & Concrete Track with the Cyclic Loading)

  • 국내에 적용하고 있는 궤도시스템은 크게 자갈궤도와 콘크리트궤도로 구분할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 콘크리트궤도와 자갈궤도의 노반 거동현상을 실험적으로 비교하였다. 실 대형 실험결과 하중 분산은 자갈궤도의 경우 연성포장구조, 콘크리트궤도는 강성포장구조의 형태로 하중이 분산되었으며 하중배분율은 약 30%:20%:15%로 자갈궤도보다 폭 넓게 분산되었다. 열차하중에 대한 노반에서 발생된 토압은 약 30kPa 이내로 기존 실차주행시험결과와 유사한 결과이며 자갈궤도에 비해 약 4배 정도 작게 발생하였다. 또한 반복하중에 대한 콘크리트궤도의 지중입자속도는 약 0.3cm/sec 이내로 자갈궤도보다 8배 정도 작게 측정되었다.
