A new product development and product realization process (PRP) is a circulating and feedback process by generating ideas through creative problem solving process. The early stages of PRP correspond to conceptual design and product development, in which a large portion of product life cycle cost can be saved. The optimal design method for this stage is a robust design suggested by Taguchi. Quality must be 'engineered in' since it can not be 'inspected out.' A robust design is an engineering methodology to improve the quality of a product by minimizing the efforts of variations without eliminating the causes. The objective of this study is to propose a scheme and a case study of robust design for exploring design parameters, and introduce a creative problem solving process. Major research subjects include a creative problem solving process, robust design procedure and their implementation. For the experiment of Taguchi method, a toy catapult is adopted. For the creativity development, a short project is assigned to devise a similar tool with the toy catapult. A reference model is suggested to compare and evaluate their ideas.
Gated SPECT can evaluate the regional wall motion of the heart. We evaluated the regional wall motion of the perfusion abnormality in conventional perfusion SPECT with gated SPECT. In case of suspicious perfusion abnormalities, we tried to differentiate the artifact from true abnormality in coronary vascular disease using gated SPECT. We thought that artifacts would have normal wall motion, whereas fixed defects with decreased wall motion would probably represent coronary artery disease. A total of 275 patients who were performed coronary angiography and T1-201 rest/Tc-99m MIBI dipyridamole stress gated SPECT within 2 months were enrolled. In coronary angiography, stenosis more than 50% was considered as coronary artery disease. After injection of 111MBq T1-201 rest image was obtained on triple head SPECT system. 370MBg Tc-99m MIBI was used for the stress image. Eight-frame per-cardiac-cycle gated Tc-99m SPECT studies were done. All the images were analyzed visually. Using perfusion SPECT, the overall sensitivity and specificity were 87% and 55% respectively. Regarding artery territory, sensitivity and specificity were 68% and 73% for left anterior descending artery(LAD), 62% and 78% for right coronary artery(RCA), 42% and 90% for left ciramflex artery(LCX). Using gated SPECT, the overall sensitivity and specificity were 87% and 66% respectively. Sensitivity and specificity were 68% and 78% for LAD, 62% and 79% for RCA, 42% and 90% for LCX. Among 21 false positive cases in perfusion SPECT, 5 cases were interpreted as true negative with gated SPECT. We conclude that gated SPECT provides a valuable adjunct to perfusion SPECT in characterizing perfusion abnormalities and to improve specificity.

The disposal facility in Gyeongju is planning to dispose of 800,000 packages of low- and intermediate- level radioactive waste. This facility will be developed as a complex disposal facility that has various types of disposal facilities and accompanying management. In this study, based on the comprehensive development plan of the disposal facility, a preliminary post-closure safety assessment is performed to predict the phase development of the total capacity for the 800,000 packages to be disposed of at the site. The results for each scenario meet the performance target of the disposal facility. The assessment revealed that there is a significant impact of the inventory of intermediate-level radionuclide waste on the safety evaluation. Due to this finding, we introduce a disposal limit value for intermediate-level radioactive waste. With stepwise development of safety case, this development plan will increase the safety of disposal facilities by reducing uncertainties within the future development of the underground silo disposal facilities.

Modem drug discovery requires rapid pharmacokinetic evaluation of chemically diverse compounds for early candidate selection. This demands the development of analytical methods that offer high-throughput of samples. Naturally, liquid chromatography / tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is choice of the analytical method because of its superior sensitivity and selectivity. As a result of the short analysis time(typically 3-5min) by LC-MS/MS, sample preparation has become the rate- determining step in the whole analytical cycle. Consequently tremendous efforts are being made to speed up and automate this step. In a typical automated 96-well SPE(solid-phase extraction) procedure, plasma samples are transferred to the 96-well SPE plate, internal standard and aqueous buffer solutions are added and then vacuum is applied using the robotic liquid handling system. It takes only 20-90 min to process 96 samples by automated SPE and the analyst is physically occupied for only approximately 10 min. Recently, the ultra-high flow rate liquid chromatography (turbulent-flow chromatography)has sparked a huge interest for rapid and direct quantitation of drugs in plasma. There is no sample preparation except for sample aliquotting, internal standard addition and centrifugation. This type of analysis is achieved by using a small diameter column with a large particle size(30-5O ${\mu}$m) and a high flow rate, typically between 3-5 ml/min. Silica-based monolithic HPLC columns contain a novel chromatographic support in which the traditional particulate packing has been replaced with a single, continuous network (monolith) of pcrous silica. The main advantage of such a network is decreased backpressure due to macropores (2 ${\mu}$m) throughout the network. This allows high flow rates, and hence fast analyses that are unattainable with traditional particulate columns. The reduction of particle diameter in HPLC results in increased column efficiency. use of small particles (<2 urn), however, requires p.essu.es beyond the traditional 6,000 psi of conventional pumping devices. Instrumental development in recent years has resulted in pumping devices capable of handling the requirements of columns packed with small particles. The staggered parallel HPLC system consists of four fully independent binary HPLC pumps, a modified auto sampler, and a series of switching and selector valves all controlled by a single computer program. The system improves sample throughput without sacrificing chromatographic separation or data quality. Sample throughput can be increased nearly four-fold without requiring significant changes in current analytical procedures. The process of Bioanalytical Method Validation is required by the FDA to assess and verify the performance of a chronlatographic method prior to its application in sample analysis. The validation should address the selectivity, linearity, accuracy, precision and stability of the method. This presentation will provide all overview of the work required to accomplish a full validation and show how a chromatographic method is suitable for toxirokinetic sample analysis. A liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method developed to quantitate drug levels in dog plasma will be used as an example of tile process.
Impermeable surfaces such as transportation land uses including roads and parking lots accumulate high heavy metals and particulate matters concentration especially during dry season which worsens the river water quality and distort the water circulation system during rainfall events. Recently, the government has been promoting policies to install Low Impact Development (LID) facilities such as permeable pavements or grass blocks in parking lots or pavements. However, transition of asphalt-paved surfaces to permeable pavement generated asphalt wastes which are detrimental to the environment and has cost implications due to its removal and disposal. Therefore this study was conducted to provide a method of constructing a cost-effective permeable pavement to reduce waste generation and cost. In this study, comparative analysis of the water circulation capacity and economic efficiency of the traditional construction method and new method proposed in this study through the lab-scale experiment. The proposed method was to make holes in existing asphalt pavements, layout geotextile fabric and permeable base media such as sand before compaction. After compaction, layout grass blocks on the compacted base media then layout sand in between each grass blocks before compaction. Apparently, there was no significant difference between the traditional installation method of permeable pavement and the proposed method in this study considering surface runoff, infiltrated volume, stored volume, and rainfall-runoff delay time. The proposed method in this study generated 86% less wastes compared to the traditional installation method and has 70% cost reduction considering asphalt removal and disposal. The construction method proposed in this study yielded similar performance compared to the traditional installation method and water circulation effect, but was proven to be less complicated and economical.

In this paper a computer program was developed, which simulates the Li reduction process of PWR spent fuel, and the amount of a produced metal or chloride compound was calculated at the various amount of Li with the program. It establishes a database, which is composed of some characteristics related to a chemical reaction equation and thermodynamic data, and it calculates the transformed rate of PWR spent fuel oxide at the certain amount of Li by using the database as input data. As the results of the performance test of the program, it was validated that the transformed values of oxides, except for $Eu_2O_3$ and $Sm_2O_3$, were almost the same to within about a 6 % error with those calculated by the previous code and that the calculated amount of Li was also exactly consistent with the theoretical one, which is used for a complete reaction of each oxide in a single chemical reaction. A relationship between Li and the transformed metal of each oxide was analyzed on the basis of the quantities calculated with the verified development program. Of the results, when the amount of Li was given to be 250 mole, the 83.73 percentage of $UO_2$ was transformed into U while the remainder was still to be $UO_2$. In addition, it was appeared that the 297 mole of Li was needed to completely convert $UO_2$ into U.

The purpose of Radioactive Waste Acceptance Criteria(WAC) is to verify a radioactive waste compliance with radioactive disposal facility requirements in order to maintain a disposal facility's performance objectives and to ensure its safety. To develop WAC which is conformable with domestic disposal site conditions, we furthermore analysed the WAC of foreign disposal sites similar to the Kyung-Ju disposal site and the characteristics of various wastes which are being generated from Korea nuclear facilities. Radioactive WAC was developed in the technical cooperation with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in consideration of characteristics of the wastes which are being generated from various facilities, waste generators' opinions and other conditions. The established criteria was also discussed and verified at an advisory committee which was comprised of some experts from universities, institutes and the industry. So radioactive WAC was developed to accept all wastes which are being generated from various nuclear facilities as much as possible, ensuring the safety of a disposal facility. But this developed waste acceptance criteria is not a criteria to accept all the present wastes generated from various nuclear facilities, so waste generators must seek an alternative treatment method for wastes which were not worth disposing of, and then they must treat the wastes more to be acceptable at a disposal site. The radioactive disposal facility WAC will continuously complement certain criteria related to a disposal concentration limit for individual radionuclide in order to ensure a long-term safety.

Solid electrolyte interface is formed on a carbon electrode used as an anode in Li-ion battery, which can be of $Li^{+}$ intercalation/deintercalation during the first cycle. The passivation film formed by a solvent decomposition during the initial charge process affects cell performance and it was one of the main reason of an initial irreversible capacity. This paper describes the use, for the first time, of $Li_2CO_3$ as the additive for the formation of a passivation film on the carbon surface to suppress the initial irreversible reaction. Chronopotentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, and impedance spectroscopy were used to investigate the effects of the $Li_{2}CO_{3}$ additive. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and X-ray diffraction were also used to monitor changes in the surface morphology and composition of the passivation film formed by solvent decomposition and the precipitation of $Li_{2}CO_{3}$. The addition of $Li_{2}CO_{3}$ to a solution of 1 M $LiPF_{6}$/EC:MA (1:3, v/v) resulted in a decrease in the initial irreversible capacity and it was due to the suppression of the solvent decomposition on the electrode surface.

In this work, we developed a synthetic method for preparing one-dimensional $MnO_2$ nanowires through a hydrothermal method using a mixture of $KMnO_4$ and $MnSO_4$ precursors. As-prepared $MnO_2$ nanowires had a high surface area and porous structure, which are beneficial to the fast electron and ion transfer during electrochemical reaction. The microstructure and chemical structure of $MnO_2$ nanowires were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements. The electrochemical properties of $MnO_2$ nanowire electrodes were also investigated using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge with a three-electrode system. $MnO_2$ nanowire electrodes showed a high specific capacitance of 129 F/g, a high rate capability of 61% retention, and an excellent cycle life of 100% during 1000 cycles.

Advantages of flash memories are their shock resistance and fast read speed, which is much faster than that of a HDD. Because of these characteristics, they are increasingly used in the traditional household electric appliance and portable handset and therefore, development of file systems which use them as storage medium is increasingly needed. But they have two problems as storage medium. First, data stored in them cannot be overwritten: it must be erased before new data can be stored. Unfortunately, this erase operation usually takes about one second. Consequently, updating data in flash memories takes long time. In this paper, their problem is solved by using a data update mechanism like LFS(Log-structured File System). Second, their erase operations are restricted. We propose novel cleaning policy in order to increase the life cycle. We implemented FAT file system, which is suitable to small storage medium and solved problems, which usually happen in implementing FAT. We evaluated the performance of sequential writes and random writes on our implemented flash file system.
