Cyanoacrylate fuming mehod is effective for latent fingerprints developing on non-porous surfaces. In this study, we investigated optimal conditions for latent fingerprint development using cyanoacrylate fuming method in vacuum chamber. The effects of temperature, relative humidity, fuming method and processing time were checked throughly. The amount of evaporated cyanoacrylate was increased at higher temperature, but cyanoacrylate polymerization on the fingerprint ridge was best at $30^{\circ}C$. With a relative humidity of 40% to 50% conditions, good quality of fingerprints were developed. If a relative humidity is lower than 30% or higher than 60%, polymerization rate of cyanoacrylate monomers on the fingerprint ridge was decreased. It was identified that application of $OMEGA-PRINT^{TM}$ dispersal pad or cotton ball with sodium hydroxide fuming method in vacuum chamber was more effective than natural fuming method. We found that cyanoacrylate processing time in vacuum chamber did not have more significant than relative humidity.

Objectives: The need for proper wound closure is of paramount importance after any intra-oral surgery. Various wound closure techniques have been described in literature using traditional non-absorbable suture materials. These include like synthetic absorbable sutures, surgical staples and tissue adhesives. Cyanoacrylates are among the most commonly used biocompatible tissue adhesives. To evaluate and compare intraoral wound healing using 3-0 silk sutures and n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate after alveoloplasty. Materials and Methods: A total of 20 patients requiring bilateral alveoloplasty in the same arch (upper or lower) were included in this study. Patients with any pre-existing pathology or systemic disease were excluded. After alveoloplasty was performed, the wound was closed using 3-0 braided silk sutures on one side, and using n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate bio adhesive on the other side. Patients were evaluated based on the following parameters: time required to achieve wound closure; the incidence of immediate and postoperative hemostasis; the time to the use of the first rescue medication; the side where pain first arises; and the side where wound healing begins first. Results: Compared to 3-0 silk sutures, cyanoacrylate demonstrated better hemostatic properties, reduced operative time, reduced postoperative pain and better wound healing. Conclusion: These data suggest that cyanoacrylate glue is an adequate alternative to conventional sutures to close the surgical wound after alveoloplasty, and better than are 3-0 silk sutures.

Aim: To assess the efficacy of cyanoacrylate adhesive in the management of large perforations of the maxillary sinus membrane during sinus lifts. Material and methods: Eight rabbits were used in the study. Sinus membrane perforation(about 1.5cm) was repaired with cyanoacrylate adnesive on one side of the maxillary sinus and the opppsite side was used as a control. Histological evaluation was performed 4 weeks after the operation. Results: Histological studies showed normal healing of the sinus membrane across the site of previous perforation and no evidence of inflammation. Conclusion: Our results support the clinical use of cynoacrylate adhesive for repairing sinus membrane perforation.
Bronchopleural fistula(BPF) occurs as a postoperative complication in 2 to 5 percent of pulmonary resection. The detection of BPF is generally difficult and various diagnostic methods have been utilized to identify the site of the fistula in order to treat it adequately. Closure of these BPF can be surgical intervention or bronchoscopic application of various sealing agents. We report an experience with use of bronchoscopic instillation of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate($Histoacryl^{(R)}$) for closure of a postpneumonectomy BPF.

Background: The open reduction of craniofacial bone fractures requires internal fixation using metal plates and screws, which have been considered the gold standard. However, metal implants pose a risk of palpation, protrusion, and foreign body reaction, and they may require an additional operation for removal. Recently, good results have been reported for absorbable implants which complement the disadvantages of metal implants. This study presents the results of using absorbable mesh, plates, and screws with cyanoacrylate for more accurate and firmer fixation of comminuted fractures of the maxilla. Methods: In total, 235 patients underwent operations for comminuted fractures of the maxilla. From January 2012 to December 2014, absorbable mesh and screws were used in 114 patients, while from January 2015 to December 2017, absorbable mesh, plates, and screws with cyanoacrylate were used in 121 patients. Open reduction of the bone fragments was performed, after which absorbable implants were accurately molded and fixed by screws. Results: All patients underwent postoperative computed tomography scans, which showed highly accurate reduction and firm fixation in the patients who underwent procedures using absorbable implants, screws, and cyanoacrylate. There were no postoperative complications or cases of abnormal facial contour. Conclusion: When absorbable implants and screws are used for maxillary fractures, no additional surgery to remove the metal plate is required. In addition, the use of cyanoacrylate enables accurate and firm fixation of the tiny bone fragments that cannot be fixed with screws.
When metal artifacts have to undergo conservation treatment, the person in charge of the treatment selects and uses various coating mixtures based on his judgment regarding their condition, material, or environment. Since the kinds of coating mixtures or solvents make a difference in the set time of cyanoacrylate adhesives, they have something to do with the efficiency of the conservation treatment. This study examines the effects and causes that affect the set time of cyanoacrylate adhesives according to the kinds of coating mixtures and solvents and suggests ways to increase the set time. As a result, it is thought that as the surface roughness gets flatter, the wettability of adhesive is improved further, which increases the set time. Moreover, the C-F binding of V-Flon, C-O-C absorption peak, molecular weight of the coating mixtures, and glass transition temperature (Tg) were the factors that significantly affected the set time. According to the result of measuring the set time based on the result of superficial and chemical analysis, relative difference was shown according to the kind and viscosity of adhesive, but all the adhesives indicated the following order of the set time: V-Flon > Paraloid B-72 (in xylene) > Paraloid NAD-10 > Paraloid B-72 (in acetone).
The inferior mesenteric artery is a rare source of postpartum hemorrhage. We report two cases of primary postpartum hemorrhage that originated from the inferior mesenteric artery after vaginal delivery. Both patients showed signs of hypovolemic shock, and disseminated intravascular coagulation was suspected. The bleeding continued even after embolization of the uterine artery, a typical source of postpartum hemorrhage. Inferior mesenteric arteriography confirmed contrast extravasation from the superior rectal artery, and selective embolization was performed using N-butyl cyanoacrylate. This report highlights that the inferior mesenteric artery can be a source of bleeding in patients with intractable and persistent postpartum hemorrhage due to birth canal injury.
We tested the pre-treatment of alumina, leucine, alumina mixed with leucine at ratios of 9:1 (Al-Leu (9:1)) and 5:1 (Al-Leu (5:1)), and alumina mixed with sodium lactate at a ratio of 5:1 (Al-Lac (5:1)) on aged fingerprints (1, 7, 14, and 30 days after natural fingerprinting) before cyanoacrylate (CA) fuming to improve the development efficacy. As a result of the experiment, fingerprints with pre-treatment of alumina, leucine, Al-Leu (9:1), Al-Leu (5:1), and Al-Lac (5:1) showed better development efficacy (area and minutiae) than fingerprints without pre-treatment. Therefore, this modified CA fuming method improved the development efficacy with five pretreatments.
3-Methoxy-4-cyano-2,9-dioxabicyclo[4.3.0]non-3-e ne (1) was prepared by (4 + 2) cycloaddition reaction of methyl ${\alpha}$-cyanoacrylate with 2,3-dihydrofuran. Compound 1 was ring-open polymerized by cationic catalyst such as boron trifluoride etherate to obtain alternating head-to-head (H-H) copolymer (2) of methyl $\alpha$ -cyanoacrylate and 2,3-dihydrofuran. For comparison, head-to-tail (H-T) copolymer (3) was also prepared by free radical copolymerization of the corresponding monomers. The H-H copolymer exhibited minor differences in its $^1H$-NMR and IR spectra, but in the $^{13}C$-NMR spectra significant differences were observed between the H-H and H-T copolymers. All of the H-H and H-T copolymers were soluble in common solvents and the inherent viscosities were in the range 0.2-0.3 dl/g.
In this study, latent fingermarks deposited in porous or non-porous surface was developed by cyanoacrylate fuming, and then the developed fingermark is enhanced by using Rhodamine 6G. Between water-based R6G and organic solvent-based R6G, author studied about which material have higher effectiveness in enhancing fingermark. In all seven types of surfaces depositing fingermark, water-based R6G have higher effectiveness in enhancing fingermark and lower surface coloring than organic solvent-based R6G. But because the surfaces found in crime scene have multicolor background and various quality, the additional study about various surfaces is needed.
