  • Hay-making is one of the most common forage preservation practices in livestock operations. The objective of hay-making is to minimize nutrient loss by shortening field drying time. Measuring the impacts of cutting height of forage crop is necessary to optimize hay production balancing yield and quality, in order to obtain substantial biomass increase through harvest of regrowth. This experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of cutting height of rye (Secale cereale L.) on drying rate and hay quality. Heading stage rye was harvested at 8cm or 15cm stubble heights. Hay was daily tedded at 09:00 and sampled at 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00 to determine moisture content (MC). After two month of preservation, CP (crude protein), ADF (acid detergent fiber), NDF (neutral detergent fiber), IVDMD (in vitro dry matter disappearance), TDN (total digestible nutrient), RFV (relative feed value), DM (dry matter) loss, visual scores and total fungi count were determined for estimation of hay quality. Cutting height at 15cm could enhance the drying rate and CP content (p<0.05), but also increases DM loss (p<0.05) compared to cutting at 8cm. Cutting heights did not affect ADF, NDF, IVDMD, TDN and RFV value (p>0.05). Visual scores of rye hays cutting at 8cm and 15cm, ranged from 83 to 85. Cutting at 8cm tended to maintain higher core bale temperature and fungal count than cutting at 15cm during preservation, but there was no significant difference.

  • Small-scale production is increasing, and the manufacturing industry is gradually changing into a smart manufacturing industry. Therefore, research on securing optimal cutting conditions for factors affecting machining precision during cutting is very important. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to After machining the inner diameter hole of SCM415 steel with a cermet tool on a CNC automatic lathe, the surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, and dimensional straightness are measured according to the feed rate to analyze the machining characteristics and suggest optimal cutting conditions. The test material was cut using a cermet tool for secondary cutting after a round bar with a diameter of 20 mm was mounted on a CNC automatic lathe. The cutting length was fixed at 0.5 mm, and the cutting speed was fixed at 3200 rpm. When the feed rate was changed to 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 mm/rev, the respective surface roughness during the 15th test was measured. Consequently, The lower the feed rate, the better is the surface roughness. In addition, the optimum cutting conditions for SCM415 steel were observed to be the most ideal cutting conditions than the condition of 0.05 mm/rev at a cutting speed of 3,200 rpm and a feed rate of 0.1 mm/rev.

  • One of the most important technology in PA(Factory Automation) is to construct the diagnostic system for manufacturing process. To improve the productibility in the factory, the state of tools such as bite, drill, endmill should be monitored continuously. In this study, fuzzy logic was used to check the wear of drill in drilling process. The input variables to construct the fuzzy rules are cutting force and the rate of cutting force's change. The experiment was done with the fixed spindle speed and feed rate in cutting condition.

  • Generally, main factors of tool damage are cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The increase of those factors can cause tool breakage or worsen product quality such as machining accuracy deterioration. Those three factors are concerned with cutting force. Cutting force reaches at its maximum value when cutter blade cuts away the object directly, and it is the time when tool damages are at high probability. In this study, we detect the maximum cutting force affecting tool damage and control the maximum cutting force based on the measured peak force.

  • This study is on the estimation of the tool temperature for different tool nose radius and cutting conditions in turning. The experiment has been performed in different cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the tool nose radius, 0.4R, 0.8R using SMC workpiece materials. Tool temperature is measured using thermo-couple which is embedded in the insert tip. Using a multiple linear regression method, the tool temperature can be determined as an exponential equation with cutting variables and tool nose diameters for different tool materials. The equations determined in this study show a good correlation for the cutting conditions and can be used for the tool temperature estimation. The result indicates that the tool temperature decreases for ~ncreasing the tool nose radius in general. Also, nose radius hardly influences on the tool temperature compared with cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of surface roughness and cutting force in ultraprecision cutting of aluminium alloy using natural diamond tools whose edge radii are smaller than those of tools made of other materials. The feed rate and depth of engagement were set to be a micrometer order. After measuring the surface roughness of machined surface and cutting force for each cutting condition, the relations between the surface quality and its condition were investigated qualitatively. If the feed rate was under a certain limit, the machined surface quality was deteriorated unexpectedly. This is supposed to have happened due to vibration leading its condition to abnormal one. In a certain situation the machined surface roughness by a natural diamond tool was inferior to that made by a carbide tool whose cutting edge radius is larger. This is supposed to be caused by not normal machining but burnishing effect.

  • In this study, we turning plastic mold steel (STAVAX) against cutting speed, depth of cut, feed rate using whisker reinforced ceramic tool (WA1). To predict cutting force, analyze principal, radial, feed force with multi-regression analysis. Results are follows: From the analysis of variance, affected factor to cutting force feed rate, depth of cut, cutting speed in order and cutting speed was very small affect to cutting force. From multi-regression analysis, we extracted regression equation and the coefficient of determination$(R^2)$ was 0.9, 0.88, 0.856 at principal, radial and feed force. It means regression equation is significant. From the experimental verification, it was confirmed that principal, radial and feed force was predictable by regression equation.

  • In this study, we put our object to carry out adaptive modeling of cutting process in turning system, and to find out the optimal cutting conditions to maximize material removal rate under some constraints. We used a back-propagation neural network to model the cutting process adaptively and a genetic algorithm to find out optimal cutting conditions. The experimental results show that a back-propagation neural network could model the cutting process effciently, and optimized cutting conditions for maximizing the material removal rate were obtained through the adaptive process model and genetic algorithms. Therefore, the proposed approach can be applied to the real machining system.

  • SNCM420 steel is one of the cam shaft materials which are used in the supply unit for ship engine cam shaft. In this study the assessment of cutting behavior was conducted for the SNCM 420 steel and SM45C steel with various cutting conditions as depth of cut 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0mm and feed rate 0.1~0.3m/rev. The controlled chip was produced in feed rate 0.2, depth of cut 1.0 for SNCM420 and feed rate 0.2, depth of cut 2.0 for SM45C. There is no difference cutting force between SM45C and SNCM420 steels.

  • Rise in cutting force causes tool damage and worsens product quality resulting in machining accuracy deterioration. Especially, fragile material cutting brings about breakage of material and worsens product surface quality. In this study, we trace the locus of cutting force and examine the machined surface corresponding to the cutting force loci. and build up a monitoring system for deciding normal operation or not of cutting process.
