Proposed in this paper is a model-bated AFA (automatic feedrate-adjustment) method for maintaining smooth cutting-loads (i.e., cutting-force) during 2D-profile milling. Before the cutting-force model was established, some assumptions were verified through a series of preliminary cutting experiments (The results found that the curving-force was independent of the cutting speed and the cutting action at the cutter bosom). From the data obtained during the main cutting experiments, a “chip-load/cutting-force model”representing the cutting-force as a function of the chip-load (i.e., effective cutting-depth) and a feedrate is proposed. Based on the model. an AFA scheme for maintaining smooth cutting-force by adjusting the feedrate (i.e., F-code) according to the changes in chip-load was proposed. To check the validity of the proposed AFA scheme. another set of cutting experiments was conducted by using feedrate-adjusted NC-data while monitoring the actual machining processes using an accelerometer. The experimental results showed that the proposed AFA-scheme was quite effective.
Purpose: In this study, we attempted to analyze, by using a high-speed camera, the cutting shape as a function of cutting speed and feed rate. We compared the differences in cutting shape between domestic and foreign combines. Methods: Experiments were performed using plastic straws, and the results of two combine cutting blades, one from the Daedong Industry and one from Kuboda, were compared. The quality and performances of cutting were measured at three cutting positions: center and 68 cm to the left and right of the center. The feed rates were 0.6 m/s, 1.1 m/s, 1.6 m/s, and the cutting speeds were 600 RPM, 990 RPM, 1,380 RPM. For each speed, the cutting shape was measured three times, and the entire procedure was also repeated three times. Results: In the experiments, the domestic cutting blade achieved better results than the Japanese cutting blade. These results were obtained by studying the combination of feed rate and cutting speed, with the domestic combine attaining approximately 80% performance of the Japanese combine. We believe that additional data analysis is required, obtained from field experiments. Conclusions: The domestic cutting knives achieved better results than the Japanese cutting knives. These results are estimated from experiments conducted with different feed rates and cutting speeds; an in-depth analysis will require experiments in the real field with actual combines and a combination of multiple variables. Repeating the investigation on the length differences, broken and cut angle with various combinations of feed rate and cutting speed, will surely help to find the optimal cutting speed.
A high speed feeding type laser cutting M/C is developed for precise cutting of sheet metal. This paper has been carried out to obtain cutting characteristics and optimal cutting conditions of the developed high speed feeding type laser cutting M/C by a design of experiments. Cutting speed. laser power. laser duty and gas pressure are control factors for the surface roughness. The major factors affecting the surface roughness and the optimum cutting conditions are studied with minimum experiments using Taguchi method.
In order to suggest the proper cutting conditions of the CNC milling machining for the free-from surface, some experiments were carried out. In experiments, the influence of cutting conditions on the inclined spherical surface were examined by geometrical anlysis. In thos study, the roundness and cutting force were measured to know the effect of several cutting conditions on the machined surface and the cutting characteristics were carefully investigated. As the result, it was appeared that rigidder tool must be used and the cutting speed must be maintained constantlyfor more effective machining. It can be also known from the experiments that the improved machining surface obtained under about 80 degree, but coarse surface obtained over about 80 degree because of the existance of immproper shape of ball-end mill at the extreme portion.
Diamond shaping is one of the machining strategies to make the optical micro-groove molds, and it is especially useful when the component is an assembly of the linear micro-groove array. A mirrorlike surface and an arbitrary crose-sectional curve can be easily made by the diamond tool. However, the cutting speed of shaping is relatively lower than that of the other cutting methods, and there exist an unstable cutting conditions that generate the chatter. This study is focused on the modeling of the simplified self-induced chatter of the diamond shaping, and the machinabilities of three materials are compared by cutting experiments. From the chatter model and experiments, it is found that the unstable cutting conditions exist when the depth of cut is low and cutting speed is high. It is also found that the brass is relatively good material in micro shaping than copper or aluminium from the cutting experiments.
A reasonable analysis of cutting force in end milling may give much advantage to improvement of productivity and cutting tool life. In order to analyze cutting force, the cutting dynamics was modelled mathematically by using chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. The specific cutting constants of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by average cutting forces, tool diameter, cutting speed, feed, axial depth, and radial depth of cut. The model is verified through comparisons of model predicted cutting forces with measured cutting forces obtained from machining experiments. The results showed good agreement and from that we could predict reasonably the cutting forces in end milling.
During the hotwire cutting of EPS foam sheet, the dimensional accuracy and part quality of the cut par are highly dependent upon the thermal field in the EPS. The thermal field is determined by operating parameters such as heat input, cutting speed and cutting angle. The objective of this study is to investigate into the influence of cutting angle on the kerfwidth and part quality of the cut part in hotwire cutting of EPS foam using the experiments and the numerical analysis in the case of a single sloped cutting. In order to estimate an accurate temperature field, the transient thermal analysis using a moving coordinate system and the sloped heat flux model is carried out. From the results of the experiments and the analysis, it has been found that the effect of cutting angle on the kerfwidth and the melted area at the edge are 0.1 mm and 0.11 m$m^2$ respectively. The results of the experiments show that the surface roughness is not appreciably influenced by the cutting angle.
The elimination of chatter vibration is necessary to improve the precision and the productivity of the cutting operation. A new mathematical model of chatter vibration is presented in order to predict the dynamic cutting force from the static cutting data. The dynamic cutting force is analytically expressed by the static cutting coefficient and the dynamic cutting coefficient which can be determined from the cutting mechanics. The stability analysis is carried out by a two degree of freedom system. The chatter experiments are conducted by exciting the cutting tool with an impact hammer during an orthogonal cutting. A good agreement is shown between the stability limits predicted by theory and the critical width of cut determined by experiments.
This study presents the selection of cutting conditions in high speed pipe cutting machine for the better quality. A high speed pipe cutting machine which uses a rotary knife can make good quality products in short time. But, the machine is much sensitive by cutting conditions because of the complicated mechanism. In this reason, many experiments for cutting condition selection are necessary to improve quality of production. This study carried out cutting experiments with the three factors that are cutting RPM, cutting force and pooling force. 2-dimensional profile measuring instrument is used to measure which is represented by ${\Delta}h$, a sum of burr and collapse height. The effects of factors are analyzed by using MINITAB, the commercial software.
Cutting by a high speed laser cutting machine is one of most effective technologies to improve productivity. This paper has studied to obtain the cutting characteristics and optimal cutting conditions in a high speed feeding type laser cutting machine by Tacuchi method in design of experiments. A Lf(34) orthogonal array is adopted to study the effect of adjustment parameter. The adjustment parameters consist of cutting speed, laser power, laser output duty and assistant gas pressure. And the quality feature is selected as surface roughness of sheet metal. Variance analysis is performed in order to evaluate the effect of adjustment parameters on the quality feature of laser cutting process.
