  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the contents of education for sustainable development are reflected in the middle school environment curriculum revised in 2007, and to propose how to integrate content for improving sustainable development education. For this, I analyzed the 2007 Revised Environment Curriculum for Middle Schools by using social network analysis which is the useful methodology to understand the relations of contents. Social Network analysis is a useful tool to excavate the forms of structure or relationship and to explain the characteristics of the system that arise through relationships or to explain the units composing the system. When sustainable development education was examined from 3 points of view, it included environmental sustainability, economical sustainability, and social sustainability. I used the 2007 Revised Environment Curriculum for Middle Schools and manual of curriculum for analysis. The results are 1) The biodiversity conservation and energy efficiency have taken most important positions. 2) In case of economical sustainability pillar, sustainable production had been emphasized. 3) In the case of the social sustainability pillar, health improvement are considered significant. 4) The efforts of trying to approach sustainable development education as an integrated curriculum is week. Integrated themes based on the results were developed. Five main themes were the energy and climate change, water resource and environmental pollution, sustainable village and sustainable food production, sustainable city and sustainable production, sustainable tourism and biodiversity. I hope these could function as theme of integrated-content. Based on the results of study, I propose joint researches on scope of sustainable development for environmental education.

  • Objectives : A transition course of 'Introduction to Clinical Korean Medicine' was developed to meet the demands for better preparation for clinical application of Korean Medicine within the curriculum. A Korean Medical Classics curriculum reflecting such demands was newly designed. Methods : Based on the 'Introduction to Clinical Medicine(ICM)' course of the Medical School curriculum that follows the medical education guideline, the 'Introduction to Clinical Korean Medicine(ICKM)' course was designed and developed. The role of Korean Medical Classics was suggested in the process. Results : In the following course, Korean Medical diagnosis, diagnostics, patient intake methods reflecting the Korean Medical diagnostic system, clinical skills, basic skills, treatment planning, patient education, etc. are included. Faculty members of the basic sectors of the Korean Medical school will participate in this curriculum, of which a head will be appointed to overlook the curriculum. In the case of Korean Medical Classics, previous learning outcomes need to be reorganized based on clinical expression while clinical case studies need to be added to course material. A more active approach utilizing new pedagogic strategies and teaching methods should be taken. Conclusions : The Korean Medical Classics curriculum could effectively take on the introductory role to clinical Korean Medicine, successfully strengthening the connection between the basic and clinical Korean Medicine to improve learners' satisfaction.

  • Reading abilities are the key for students' problem-solving, self-directed learning and lifelong competency. Reading to learn is usually created through resources-based learning or inquiry-based learning. This study shows a integrated cross-curriculum approach as a alternative method of the reading to learn and it is completed In collaboration with classroom teachers. In this study especially, the model for reading-based information problem solving is introduced as a specific learning strategy of a integrated cross-curriculum and team-teaching.

  • Since elementary students are in the concrete operational stages, they have to learn mathematics using intuitive methods such as visualization, observation, operation, experiment instead of formal approach. For this, we should present the various intuitive methods in curriculum and textbook. It is because that curriculum and textbook are important tools to students when they study mathematics. So, this paper intended to analyze the instructional content by intuitive principle in elementary mathematics curriculum, textbook and curriculum guide. The results are as follows: there is an intuitive principle in only character of mathematics in curriculum. I can't find the intuitive principle in other areas in curriculum. There are 12 intuitive principles in figures area, 1 in measurement area, and 2 in probability and statistics area in curriculum guide. But intuitive principles which are used are inclined to restricted to intuitive principle via representation obtained in the usual experience. Finally, I suggest some implications about teaching via intuitive principles, curriculum, and writing textbook based on the this findings.

  • Recently a demand for student-centered creative design education is rapidly growing, but well organized design curriculum and design practice complex are not established properly in most universities. In this paper, we present a scheme for design-centered engineering curriculum and a method to build a design practice complex for creative design education which it is currently attracting a lot of interest in engineering education. Based on the analysis of the conventional curriculum of electronic engineering, a new curriculum and a design practice complex that is suitable for enhancement of professional practice capability and by which an effective engineering education through introductory design, element design and advanced design steps can be performed is described.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the subjectivity of contents related to death as a nursing curriculum subject for nurses and students. Method: The Q-methodology which provides a method for analyzing the subjectivity of each items was used. The 34 selected Q-statements sorted by each of the 36 participants were classified into a normal distribution by using a 9 point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the QUANL PC program. Results: Four types of content related to death nursing curriculum were identified. Type I is the psychologically sympathetic type, Type II is the clinical based experience type, Type III is the physically comfort seeking type, and Type IV is the human-understanding oriented type. Conclusion: The results of this study show that different approaches to education are needed to address the four types of content related to death as a nursing curriculum subject. Both contents and characteristics need to be considered.

  • Health systems science is a new medical educational field added to the traditional medical education curricula of basic and clinical sciences. Health systems science emphasizes a more comprehensive approach utilizing systems thinking to care for patients, including interactions between multiple healthcare systems. In this review, I explore how health systems science education can be applied when medical instructors teach students in clinical clerkships through representative case studies. This study first looks at examples of health systems science education in clinical clerkship in the United States and suggests how to develop the curriculum of health systems science for clinical learning environments in Korea by combining Kotter's 8-step change management model and Kern's 6-step curriculum development model. Finally, based on practical examples from actual clinical practice education situations, suggestions are made regarding how to develop the entire educational program of a medical school from the stage of applying health systems science at the individual level to clinical practice education.

  • This study aims to provide suggestions for improving national curriculum monitoring system. To achieve this goal, we analyzed the Korean national curriculum monitoring system in terms of actual problems and challenges faced by school teachers, and drew criteria for analyzing overseas curriculum monitoring system. Based on the criteria, we investigated the Australian and Singaporean national curriculum monitoring system. We especially carried out interviews with school teachers, principals, officials in Ministry of Education, and tried to identify the actual condition of curriculum monitoring system beyond superficial investigation of them. The results of this study provide four suggestions such as integrated way of monitoring, multi-way open system, and substantial approach into monitoring operation which will lead into meeting with the purpose of the monitoring system of national curriculum.
