The goal of the National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) 2001 was to affirm the accountability of school education, to scientifically manage and elevate the quality of education at the national level, and to articulate the final design of the NAEA. It was implemented on June 28th of the year 2001. The assessment frame for NAEA includes the achievement standards, the assessment standards, the instruction for the item development, and the grading policy for mathematics subject. Most of items are multiple-choice types, but the performance-based items should be at least thirty percent of the total items, also 30% in case of mathematics. Approximately 1% of students among entire population of the Grades 6 were randomly selected. Therefore, the finally sampled examines were 8023 at Grade 6. The result of the analysis of the NAEA revealed that Grade 6 students was labelled as ‘average’ level in general (Number and Operation: average, Geometric figures: average, Patterns and Functions: excellent, Measurements: average, Letters and Expressions: average, Probability and Statistics: average). The most characteristic finding was that except for Grade 6(its average is 69.92), most secondary students obtained low test scores and its average of each grade is below 50 out of 100. Especially, the scores on the performance-based items were by and large very low. This finding implies that Korean students are not familiar with the kind of test items which requires expression of ideas and feelings and they are rather familiar with the multiple-choice items. Another interesting finding was that the students in small towns and remote areas showed significantly low scores in all four skills compared with Seoul, metropolitan cities and medium and small cities. This may be attributed from the fact that the remote areas do not have equal learning environment with regard to social and cultural experience, supply of various teaching materials, extracurricular lessons which are directly related to teaching and learning. These findings may be utilized as a reliable resource fur improving curriculum and teaching and learning in Mathematics.
The purpose of this study was to analyze elementary school teachers' implementation for the emphasis on the revision, major contents, teaching and learning method, and evaluation in the 2009 revised national science curriculum. To fulfill the purpose of this study we carried out a survey with 222 elementary school teachers. Main findings of this research were as follows: First, they highly agreed to the increase in class hours and the application of subject classroom, but they had a lower recognition for setting the subject groups. Second, the degree of necessity in discussion and STS was relatively high, but the degree of implementation in science writing, discussion and STEAM was low. Third, in teaching and learning method, they showed a high performance for mutual cooperation, student-led activities and communication, but, a low implementation for open inquiry and instruction considering individual differences. Fourth, in the evaluation of science learning, they showed a high implementation for evaluation based on achievement standards and one based on the understanding and application of basic concepts, but, a low implementation for the development of common evaluation tools. Fifth, it seemed that their recognition for amount, level and interest of science contents and inquiry activities was appropriate and positive.
The purpose of this study was to explore the use of the city biodiversity index (CBI) as a tool to improve biodiversity education for urban students. For use in educational purpose, the CBI was modified and supplemented to devise an Educational CBI, and its ability to facilitate the teaching of biodiversity topics was assessed. An Educational CBI that can be used at the high school level was successfully developed. Evaluation criteria were selected based on previous studies of the existing CBI and domestic circumstances, and the relationship between the index and biodiversity topics was revealed in detail. An examination of the relevance of the Educational CBI with the current biodiversity curriculum framework showed it to be highly relevant at the level of investigation and evaluation as a tool for measuring urban biodiversity. Furthermore, an examination of the relevance between the CBI for Education and the achievement standards of the general high school subjects of the 2022 revised curriculum indicated high relevance in environmental and science subjects. As an example, the city of Cheongju obtained 82-85 of 112 points in an evaluation using the Educational CBI, confirming the monitoring function of the index. Overall, the Educational CBI offers significant benefits as a tool for both biodiversity education and urban environmental education.

As the emphasis on software education in the 2015 revised curriculum, Informatics has become one of the essential subjects for the middle school students, and contents and achievement standards have been developed focusing on the information culture literacy, computational thinking, and collaborative problem solving ability. The 2015 revised Informatics curriculum for the first grade of middle school has been applied for the first time in 2018. Various educational policies have been promoted such as training of teachers, development of teaching and learning materials and programs to support implementation of the actual school fields. In this study, we analyzed the improvement issues and tasks of the 2015 revised curriculum according to the change of the Informatics education policy of in the global, and suggested the development direction of the future Informatics curriculum in Korea. The direction of the development of the Informatics curriculum is focused on ensuring the linkage between school level and identity of informatics education.

As the demand for AI education increases, AI education is actively conducted in the educational field, but it is difficult to internalize AI education due to securing time, difficulty in organizing class contents, and lack of curriculum. As a way to solve this problem, there is a school autonomous course. The school autonomous course allows schools to have autonomy and discretion throughout the curriculum, such as adjusting the number of hours in the subject group and restructuring the use of achievement standards. In this study, in order to enhance AI education, the effect was analyzed by developing and applying an AI education immersion course using a school autonomous curriculum. In the AI education immersion course, students continuously experience AI education in a dense manner within a limited time, so substantial AI education can be achieved. After the AI curriculum, it was found that students' overall AI literacy and self-determination learning motivation improved. It is expected that this study will be able to present a direction to internalize AI education using school autonomous curriculum.

This study analyzed the content of national-level curriculum documents for the purpose of reviewing the overall status of population education in elementary and secondary schools in South Korea. Based on the results of the analysis, directions for the future of population education at school were proposed. Both the 2007-Revised Curriculum and the 2009-Revised Curriculum contain the contents of population education as a 'Cross-curricular learning topic' in the general curriculum influenced by the low birth rate and ageing society, yet not in the current 2015-Revised Curriculum. Furthermore, when the curriculum documents for the ten common subjects corresponding to the 'National Common Basic Curriculum' proposed by the 7th Curriculum were examined, only 'Home Economics' curriculum at the secondary school level and 'Social Studies' curriculum at the elementary and the secondary school levels adequately reflected the subject goals, characteristics, contents and achievement standards that correspond to those of population education. Based on the results of the curriculum analysis, the following five directions for population education at school are drawn. First, the purpose of population education at school should be stated using gender-neutral terms of 'response to low-birth and aging society' and it has to be emphasized that it is not to intervene in natural childbirth. Second, the subject which deals directly with the goals, content elements, and achievement standards of population education should be designated as the leading subject for population education. Third, with its inter-disciplinary nature, population education should be able to provide quality contents for convergence education. Fourth, the government should provide policy support to the leading subjects for population education so that more high schools may select the subjects as elective courses. Fifth, teacher education should be improved to enhance teachers' perceptions on population. This study asserts that 'Home economics,' which deals with human daily lives, is an optimal subject that can reflect population education in connection with real life. To this end, policy support should be provided for 'Home economics' so that it may fulfill the mission as a leading subject of population education.

The purpose of this study is to examine the previous literature in home economics and contents and achievement standards of 2009 revised curruculum in relation to character education. To achieve this purpose 1) the literature review in human development and family, self-management and consumption life, food, clothing, and housing life area is critically discussed in relation to character education, and 2) curriculum contents and achievement standards are analysed in relation to the six pillars(trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship) of character education proposed by Josephson Institute. The results of analysis are verified by five experts in home economics content areas. Specific results of relation between home economics contents/achievement standards and six elements of character education are as follows. Human development and family area is most closely related with all elements of character education among other content areas. In Self-management and consumption life areas, self-management sub-area is very closely related with responsibility element; and consumption life sub-area is very closely related with citizenship element. In food area, health diet and eating sub-area is very closely related with trustworthiness, respect, and responsibility elements; and eco-frendly diet and food sub-area is very closely related with all six elements. In clothing area, clothing and self-expression sub-area is very closely related with trustworthiness, caring, and citizenship elements; and eco-friendly clothing and clothing reform sub-area is very closely related with responsibility, caring, and citizenship elements. In hosing area, housing and living environment sub-area is very closely related with responsibility and caring elements; and sustainable living and decorating living space sub-area is very closed related with trustworthiness, fairness, and citizenship elements.
Unlike Korean science curriculum's continued push for "relevance of contents" to reduce the burden of learning on students, IB DP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) is chosen in many countries and the number of IB world schools continues to grow, although it contains not only a large amount of learning but a substantial amount of content that requires quantitative calculations. Through this study, we suggest implications for Korean science curriculum and textbook, by comparing the constructions of chapters, the achievement standards, the learning contents, and the formulas of physics textbook, focusing on the 'relativity' unit of the 2015 revised national curriculum and IB DP, and by analyzing the questions of college scholastic ability test (CSAT) and external assessment (EA).

The purpose of this study is to construct contents of elementary and secondary education which will be included in the information literacy education and to obtain basic information and implications necessary for developing new textbooks. For this study, three types of previously developed textbooks for information literacy education were analyzed, and curriculum content structure, and textbook structure of the draft version of the textbook 'Media and Information Life' developed in 2019-2020 were analyzed. The analysis results are as follows. the information literacy education textbook applied the information problem solving process model and contained the contents of print, and digital media and the media literacy necessary for democratic citizens, but it was necessary to add the types of libraries and media in sequence. Second, library, media, information, and reading literacy were major learning elements that made up the contents of the information literacy curriculum. Third, the "media and information life" textbook needed to present subject competencies, generalized knowledge, content system, and achievement standards in accordance with the system of the 2015 revised curriculum. In addition, social discussion was needed to derive the name of the information literacy curriculum.

The purpose of the study was to show the development process of the total instructional alignment based on the 2015 revised technology home economics curriculum, and to present the detailed aspects of this task. The results of this study were as follows: First, the clarity phase of the performance established the annual evaluation plan to ensure the consistency of the achievement standard, the learning objectives and the assessment objectives through an analysis of the curriculum. Second, the development phase of the performance tasks and the grading criteria analyzed the contents area and determined the performance assessment task. The performance assessment consisted of a portfolio and project activity types, and also comprised of knowledge markets, as well as e-NIE tasks, including individual tasks and collective tasks. Third, the performance assessment and the results phase were conducted after planning the class operation according to the instructors' directions and arrangement of the schedule into block classes. Afterwards, the performance assessment tasks were revised by the teaching-learning community and class reflection on practical application. As these results demonstrate, developing performance tasks that are centered on the learner's development processes can contribute to teachers' expertise and improvement of instruction.
