  • To enhance the critical current of superconducting coil, the magnetic field experienced by superconductors in a coil should be minimized. This is true for both low $T_{c}$ and high $T_{c}$ superconductors, and the difference between the two lays in their isotropic/an-isotropic characteristics. In this paper, we propose a shape optimization algorithm to reduce radial magnetic field components in HTS solenoid to enhance the critical current of a solenoid. In the algorithm, finite element method and continuum shape design sensitivity formula were employed. The objective function is to minimize the maximum radial magnetic fields in a solenoid with a constraint of constant solenoid volume condition. In this paper, the details on algorithm are introduced and the calculated optimized shapes are presented.

  • A novel 3D shape optimization algorithm is presented for electromagnetic devices carry-ing eddy current. The algorithm integrates the 3D finite element performance analysis and the steepest descent method with design sensitivity and mesh relocation method. For the design sensitivity formula, the adjoint variable vector is defined in complex form based on the 3D finite element method for eddy current problems. A new 3D mesh relocation method is also proposed using the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress to renew the mesh as the shape changes. The design sensitivity f3r the sur-face nodal points is also systematically converted into that for the design variables for the parameterized optimization application. The proposed algorithm is applied to the optimum design of the tank shield model of the transformer and the effectiveness is proved.

  • In these days the hybrid interrupters are widely used for medium voltage class circuit breakers. In the design of the hybrid interrupter, the shape of the short-circuit ring is one of the most important design parameters. Recently the investigation into the phase difference between arc current and magnetic field due to the shape variation of the short circuit ring has been conducted. In this paper, the results of eddy current analyses in the hybrid interrupter and test result are presented.

Effects of Box Shape and Diverse Components of Large-Sized Products on Consumers' Product Evaluations in Logistic Business

  • Purpose - With the recent spread of COVID-19, U.S. consumers' consumption pattern is changing towards purchasing large-capacity products, as they stay at home longer. Thus, the current research investigates the effects of box shape and component diversity for large-sized products on product evaluation in logistic business. Moreover, this research examines that information-processing fluency mediates the moderating effects of box shape and product components on target evaluations to confirm psychological mechanism for generating this effect. Design/methodology - In order to examine the hypotheses, the current research conducts two online experiments. The 184 participants (Study 1), and 205 participants (Study 2) of U.S. nationality were recruited through Amazon Mechanical Turk. This research analyzes the data by using SPSS 25 and PROCESS macro 4.0. Findings - Study 1 demonstrates that when the height of a box is greater than its width, products with single components promote positive target evaluations, while when the width of box is greater than its height, products with a variety of components lead to positive target evaluations. Study 2 shows that the same results are replicated in other product categories and with different box shape ratios. Moreover, Study 2 also finds that the ease of information processing mediates the interaction effects of box shape and component diversity on U.S. consumers' target evaluations. Originality/value - The current research has originality in that it investigates the effect of box shape and product composition diversity on U.S. consumer product evaluation from the perspective of information-processing theory Moreover, this research has practical implications for global traders who prepare for entering the U.S. market.

구리전극봉을 이용한 합금공구강재(STD11)의 비관통 방전 탭 가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Electrical Discharge Blind Hole Tap Machining of STD11 with Copper Electrode)

  • The technology of electrical discharge tap machining may be appropriate for making thread out of highly brittle material. Especially, it is very difficult to machine tap with the traditional method if the brittle material has been hardened by quenching. In this study, the shape of electrical discharge blind hole tap machining was analyzed by discharge time, discharge current, and the flushing hole condition after quenched the tool steel of STD11 has discharged the tap shape with a screw-shaped copper(Cu) electrode. An experimental design was planned and analyzed by Taguchi robust experimental design. The result showed that the shape of the blind hole discharge tap was influenced by the flushing hole, discharge time, and discharge current. The most important factor of the processing conditions was found to be the discharge current. When blind hole EDM with a copper electrode with a flushing hole was conducted, the discharged shape was found to be smooth and the angle of the discharged tapped thread was also found to be close to the thread angle of $60^{\circ}$. As the values of discharge time and discharge current increased, the EDMed surface coarsened due to the increase of the single discharge energy and the shape of the thread collapsing.

  • In the current paper, a cold forging sequence was developed to manufacture a precisely cold forged H/Lower, which is used as the air back unit in commercial automobiles. The preform shape of the H/Lower influences the dimensional accuracy and stiffness of the final product. The shape factor (SF) ratio and shape of the tools are considered as the design parameters to achieve adequate backward extrusion height and maintain appropriate thickness variations. The optimal conditions of the design parameters were determined by using an artificial neural network (ANN). To experimentally verify the optimal preform and tool shapes, the experiments of the backward extrusion of the H/Lower were executed. The process design methodology proposed in the current paper, can provide a more systematic and economically feasible means for designing the preform and tool shapes for cold forging.

Design and investigation of a shape memory alloy actuated gripper

  • This paper proposes a new design of shape memory alloy (SMA) wire actuated gripper for open mode operation. SMA can generate smooth muscle movements during actuation which make them potentially good contenders in designing grippers. The principle of the shape memory alloy gripper is to convert the linear displacement of the SMA wire actuator into the angular displacement of the gripping jaw. Steady state analysis is performed to design the wire diameter of the bias spring for a known SMA wire. The gripper is designed to open about an angle of $22.5^{\circ}$ when actuated using pulsating electric current from a constant current source. The safe operating power range of the gripper is determined and verified theoretically. Experimental evaluation for the uncontrolled gripper showed a rotation of $19.97^{\circ}$. Forced cooling techniques were employed to speed up the cooling process. The gripper is simple and robust in design (single movable jaw), easy to fabricate, low cost, and exhibits wide handling capabilities like longer object handling time and handling wide sizes of objects with minimum utilization of power since power is required only to grasp and release operations.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the Myokmok, a kind of shroud. This study classifies Myokmok by its size, shape, cloths and color. Korean Myokmok through literatures are as follows. The size of Myokmok was one Ch'ok(尺) two Ch'on(寸). The surface of Myokmok were mostly black and the lining was mostly red. The cloths of Myokmok were Paek(帛) and Chu(紬). Myokmok through relics was various in size and the cloths were Kongdan(貢緞), Myongchu(明紬) and the color was various. Actual conditions of current Myokmok were various. The size, shape and cloths were more variable than the literatures and relics. In the Chinese Myokmok through literatures, the size were one Ch'ok two Ch'on, one Ch'ok and one Ch'ok five Ch'on. The cloths of Myokmok were Paek and Kyon(絹). The surface of Myokmok were mostly black and the lining was mostly red. Myokmok in Munkonggaryoieuichul was tide by the strings of four corners. The size of the Chinese Myokmok was various. The shape of the current Myokmok was various than the literatures and relics.

Morphing Wing Mechanism Using an SMA Wire Actuator

  • In general, a conventional flap on an aircraft wing can reduce the aerodynamic efficiency due to geometric discontinuity. On the other hand, the aerodynamic performance can be improved by using a shape-morphing wing instead of a separate flap. In this research, a new flap morphing mechanism that can change the wing shape smoothly was devised to prevent aerodynamic losses. Moreover, a prototype wing was fabricated to demonstrate the morphing mechanism. A shape memory alloy (SMA) wire actuator was used for the morphing wing. The specific current range was measured to control the SMA actuator. The deflection angles at the trailing edge were also measured while various currents were applied to the SMA actuator. The trailing edge of the wing changed smoothly when the current was applied. Moreover, the deflection angle also increased as the current increased. The maximum frequency level was around 0.1 Hz. The aerodynamic performance of the deformed airfoil by the SMA wire was analyzed by using the commercial program GAMBIT and FLUENT. The results were compared with the results of an undeformed wing. It was demonstrated that the morphing mechanism changes the wing shape smoothly without the extension of the wing skin.

경남지역 일부 중학생들의 체형 선호도 조사 (The Perception of Desirable Body Shape in Some Middle School Students of Gyeongnam Area)

  • A questionnaire was administered to 850 middle school students in Jinju city and Hamyang province to asses their body shape preferences. Their mean current BMI(body mass index, Kg/㎡) in males(19.23±2.77) was higher than that in females(18.61±2.59). On the other hand, significant differences in BMI were not found between areas. The perceived desired weights for their current height were about+0.22kg(males) and -4.32kg(females) of their actual weights. In spite of the average weight group, many wished to lose weight because of their tendency to perceive themselves as overweight, especially among rural females. Their ideal body shape as perceived by them were 'normal' in males and 'a bit thin' in females, independent of the areas. As for the 'contentment' regarding their current weight and health, the most satisfied group in males were estimated average weight and slightly overweight group, respectively. While, the most satisfied group in females were estimated slightly underweight and overweight group, respectively. Their extreme slim-body preference might have its root in the lack of proper understanding of what the 'standard' body weight was.
