Effectiveness of Self-directed Learning on Competency in Physical Assessment, Academic Self-confidence and Learning Satisfaction of Nursing Students

  • Purpose: Competency in physical assessment is an important component of nursing practice. However, some physical assessment skills are not being utilized within the current teacher-centered, content-heavy curriculum. This study was conducted to identify the effects of student-centered, self-directed learning in the physical assessment class. Methods: An experimental study with a post-test only control group design was used to compare an intervention group that was provided self-directed learning classes and a control group that was provided traditional lecture and practice classes. Competency in physical assessment, academic self-confidence, and learning satisfaction were evaluated. Collected data were analyzed using $x^2$-test (Fisher's exact test) and independent t-test. Results: Competency in physical assessment was significantly higher in the experimental group. However, academic self-confidence and learning satisfaction were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that self-directed learning can improve nursing students competency in physical assessment and that self-directed learning is a good education method to improve nursing students' competency in physical assessment during clinical practice and perform quality patient care by making active use of physical assessment skills.

친환경 의생활 영역에 관한 교과서분석 - 중학교 "기술.가정" 2 교과서를 중심으로 - (The Study of Textbook in Eco Friendly Clothing-related Contents - Based on Middle School "Technology.Home Economics" 2 -)

  • As environmental issues have become a worldwide concern after the 20th century, the idea and the term of 'green growth development' has become familiar to the public. After 2008, the green growth development dramatically became an important ideology in Korea; thus industries, studies and product investments in relation are in active progress. Following the trend, the latter major unit of the middle school textbook "Technology & Home Economics" was named the revision of elementary, middle and high school textbooks in 2009. The learning goal of 'green' or 'eco-friendly' of the revised edition of the textbook will guide the middle school students to have better understanding of the issues of clothing habits and the environment. Furthermore, students will be able to apply the 'green' concepts in their real life and put eco-friendly clothing habits into action. Thus, the practice of effective learning will depend on the quality of the current issue of the textbook. Therefore this study analyzes the eco-friendly contents of the semi-unit from 7 different textbooks and presents an example of textbook production to the preliminary teacher of home economics.

Virtual 실행공동체의 진단 방법론 개발 (Developing the Methodology for Diagnosing Virtual Community of Practice)

  • Much of knowledge that can retain a company's competitive advantage remains within the organization. However, identifying, finding and leveraging knowledge in an organization is still problematic [17]. Although knowledge is the key to success, it is simply too valuable to be left in an organization [59]. The CoP (Community of Practice) within an organization is a practical way to manage knowledge in an organization as systematically as other critical assets in order to deploy and share it [59]. However, research related with CoP, has focused on the value of CoP. Therefore, we developed not only a holistic and systematic method for understanding and assessing the current position of CoP but also a method for extracting the core strategies and CSFs of CoP based on performance evaluation. We developed strategies, CSF (Critical Success Factor) and PM (Performance Measure)s of CoP based on BSC (Balanced Scorecard) process. Specifically, CSFs and strategies of CoP were extracted based on maturity model and type of CoP. According to the procedure from the methodology to evaluate the performance of CoP, three different industrial cases were adopted to validate the evaluation methodology.

당뇨병 적정관리를 위한 교육 실태 분석: 우리나라 보건소를 중심으로 (Focused on Diabetes Education Practice of Community Health Centers in Korea)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this article was to investigate the current practice of diabetes education along with the specific interventions, process, and outcomes in community health centers in Korea. Methods: Data were collected by a mail questionnaire from September 20, 2012 to December 20, 2012. Among 253, a total of 161 responded, constituting a 63.3% return rate. Results: Primary staff of diabetes education was the nurse and respondents recognized their role largely as a director. More than half of respondents provided education to people with type 2 diabetes by group. Most common service offered was nutrition therapy and the majority of respondents used printed materials. Among 4 criteria of outcomes, eating (nutrition), knowledge scores, blood pressure, and patients' survey on satisfaction were collected most frequently. Nearly three quarters of respondents were not participated in activities for quality improvement and outcomes were not reported properly. Conclusions: The results are able to draw ideas for organizing diabetes education programs and evaluating outcomes in community heath centers. This article has significance that it is the first comprehensive survey of diabetes education practice in community health centers and provides a baseline for establishing national standards of diabetes self-management education.

국내 임상진료지침의 개발 현황 (An Investigation of Current Status of the Clinical Practice Guidelines in Korea)

  • Objective: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are systematically developed statements aimed at helping optimal care of the patient in a given clinical circumstance. Because of the increasing evidence that active implementation of CPGs improve health outcomes, there is a growing awareness of the importance of guideline development and dissemination. The objective of this study was to investigate the status of CPG development and availability of the CPGs in Korea. Method: We searched in the Web sites of 180 organizations to identify CPGs which were developed and/or published in Korea until 1 July 2014. The data of titles, published year, publisher, distributer, and accessibility at the internet web of all CPGs were collected and analyzed. Results: A total of 172 CPGs were developed and 80% had been released since 2009. Most (51.2%) were developed for management of 4 diseases: 28 for digestive system disease; 27 for infectious disease; 18 for endocrine and metabolic diseases; and 15 for neoplasms. Of the 172 CPGs, 150 CPGs were publicly available. Among the 150 CPGs, 78.7% (118/150) were developed by only one organization. Conclusion: To ensure the production of high-quality CPGs, it is necessary to collaborate with other relevant professional societies in guideline development process. In addition, stronger efforts on wider dissemination of CPGs must be employed at the country levels to promote implementation of CPGs in clinical settings.

일부(一部) 농촌지역(農村地域) 주민(住民)의 민속의료(民俗醫療) 이용(利用)에 관(關)한 조사(調査) (A Survey on Traditional Medical Practice Among Some Rural Areas)

  • 우리나라 농촌지역(農村地域) 주민(住民)의 민속의료(民俗醫療) 이용(利用) 현황(現況)을 파악(把握)하여 1973년(年) 8월(月)에 경상남도(慶尙南道) 일부(一部) 농촌지역(農村地域) 주민(住民) 500명(名)의 성인(成人) 남여(男女)를 대상(對象)으로 민속의료이용(民俗醫療利用) 실태(實態)를 조사(調査)해 본 결과(結果) 다음과 같은 결과(結果)를 얻었다. 1) 민속요법(民俗療法)을 이용(利用)한 경우는 모두 198예(例)로서 그 대부분(大部分)이 비과학적(非科學的)인 경험적(經驗的) 시술(施術)이였다. 2) 민속의료(民俗醫療)를 이용(利用)한 상병(傷病)을 보면 소화기계(消化器系) 질환(疾患)이 50예(例), 30.32%로 기장 많았으며 신경계(神經系) 및 감각기(感覺器) 질환(疾患)이 48예(例), 24.24% 많았다.

상반신의 근육뼈대계 통증이 치과위생사의 스케일링 작업에 미치는 특성에 대한 표면 근전도 분석 (Analysis Characteristic the Using Surface EMG of Scaling Working of the Dental Hygienist with Upper Body Musculoskeletal Pain)

  • Purpose : The current research examines the muscle activity that happens during scaling practice subject to 20 dental hygienic students with musculoskeletal pain and then propose a basic data according to the working attitude of the Dental Hygienist. Method : The Nordic-style questionnaire is used to define experimental group with musculoskeletal pain and control group. During the scaling the surface EMG device is used to measure the muscle activity of experimental and control group. Study design : The surface EMG is measure RMS(root mean square) of suboccipital muscle, biceps brachii, upper trapezius, and brachioradialis muscle activity. Results : In the experimental group, the RMS of upper trapezius and brachioradialis is increased during scaling practice(p<0.05), but the control group's RMS is not changed(p>0.05). Conclusion : Musculoskeletal pain may contribute to increase muscle activity of neck & arm during scaling practice. In the future we think there is a need to raise the office efficiency by subjecting to dental hyginiest that are in the clinics and performing experiments.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 Rosenthal의 내러티브-생애사 인터뷰 분석의 실제를 보여주는 데에 있다. 이에, 한 재독한인노동이주자의 인터뷰를 사례로 하여 생애사적 데이터의 연속적 분석, 텍스트분석과 주제적 영역분석, 체험된 생애사의 재구성과 연속적 세밀분석, 이야기된 생애사와 체험된 생애사의 비교 분석의 절차에 따라 단계별로 분석한 결과를 제시하였고, 이를 통해 Rosenthal의 내러티브-생애사 인터뷰 분석의 실제를 보여주었다. 이어, 이러한 연구가 사회복지학 분야 생애사 연구와 사회복지실천에 시사하는 함의를 논의하였다.

  • 가치공학(Value Engineering, 이하 VE)은 제조업에서 출발한 생산성 향상 기법으로 건설 분야에서도 수 십년 간 적용되어 선진외국 뿐만 아니라 국내에서도 그 효과가 이미 입증된 우수한 관리 기법이다. 그러나, 건설 부문에서의 VE는 국내외를 막론하고 그 이론과 적용에 있어 다소의 차이를 보여왔으며, 이러한 괴리는 YE의 잠재력을 극대화하는 데 있어 하나의 장애가 되고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 된 연구에서는 국내 건설 YE의 내적 성장을 유도하기 위한 노력의 일관으로, 건설 VE 프로세스의 제 단계 및 기법에서 제기될 수 있는 문제점과 그 원인을 다각적으로 검토하고, 이에 대한 개선방항을 제시하고자 한다.

한국의 의사상: 좋은 의사양성 (The Future Roles of Korean Doctors: Cultivating Well-Rounded Doctors)

  • Much of the behavior of doctors reflects the influences from the social, cultural, historical, and economic environment of the time. Therefore, it is very important for future doctors to understand the practice environment in an ever changing world. Traditionally, doctors' competence has been based on the doctor-patient relationship. However, the social practice of medicine in the contemporary era asks future doctors to have social competencies, which often are defined as non-clinical competencies. As a global project, the World Federation for Medical Education has urged every country to define the future role of doctors to encompass global roles based on the duty toward and value of clinical as well as non-clinical competencies. In the past four years, Korean medical professional societies have coordinated to set forth the global role of Korean doctors. Five domains of clinical competence, professionalism, social accountability, communication and collaboration, and education and research have been chosen. The current version of the "global role of Korean doctors" can be used not only for the common objectives of medical education, but also for translating into the competencies of doctors that can be achieved through life-long learning. If we all want to improve medical education in order to produce more qualified and competent doctors as the public desires, then it may be the most urgent task to produce doctors who are equipped with social competencies to persuade, negotiate, and engage in constructive dialogues with society for better health care for a better society.
