'문화 전쟁(Culture Wars)'은 1980년대 말부터 1990년대 초 미국에서 보수주의자와 진보주의자 사이에 벌어진 문화적 논쟁을 일컫는다. 이 용어는 제임스 헌터(James Hunter)의 책 "문화 전쟁: 미국을 정의하려는 노력(Culture Wars: The Struggle to Define America)"의 출간으로 대중화되었고, 당시 공화당 대통령 후보였던 패트릭 부캐넌(Patrick Buchanan)에 의해 급부상하게 된다. 그는 "이 나라에는 지금 종교 전쟁, 즉 냉전만큼 중요한 '문화 전쟁'이 일어나고 있고, 이것은 미국의 영혼을 위한 전쟁이다." 라고 부르짖으며 급변하는 문화 정체성의 위기 속에서 미국적인 전통을 지키고자 하였다. 이 문화 전쟁은 여러 다양한 논쟁을 함의하고 있었는데, 교목제도의 폐지, 교육기관에서의 다문화주의(multiculturalism) 커리큘럼 도입, 동성애자의 군복무, 낙태, 총기 소지 등의 허용 문제로 당시 미국의 교육계, 문화계뿐만 아니라 정치계, 입법부에서도 첨예한 대립 구도를 형성하였다. 미술계에서 가장 치열했던 문화 전쟁은 안드레 세라노(Andres Serrano)의 작품전과 ${\ll}$로버트 메플소프: 완벽한 순간(Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Moment)전${\gg}$이 공공기금인 국립예술진흥기금(National Endowments for the Arts, NEA)의 지원을 받아 개최되는 것이 타당한 것이냐에 대한 논쟁에서 표출되었다. 이 두 전시를 기점으로 그 뒤로도 여러 미술 전시회와 음악회, 연극 등을 둘러싼 NEA 기금 지원과 관련한 분쟁은 한동안 계속된다. 이 글은 이러한 미술계 문화 전쟁의 발전 과정과 몇몇 논점에 초점을 맞추되, 세라노나 메플소프의 작품 자체를 분석하고 비평하는 글이 아님을 밝혀 둔다. 본 연구는 분쟁의 전개에 대한 상세한 기술적, 연대기적 조사보다는 그 발단과 전개 과정에서 몇 가지 핵심적인 사항들을 기술하고, 이 사항들이 암시하는 정치적, 미학적, 미술사적 시각의 충돌에 대해 지적하는 글이 될 것이다. 더 나아가 당시 이러한 논쟁이 미국 미술계에 의미하던 것, 미국 문화 전체에 의미하던 것은 과연 무엇인가에 대한 비평적 질문으로 글을 맺고자 한다.

This study aimed to review the influence of the World War I & II on the beauty culture which include toilette practices, cosmetic products and health habits. Literary materials were gathered and analyzed from books, journals and thesis concerning cosmetics, fashion and background history. Results are as follows: 1. Women's appearance gained social and official approval of its psychological and practical effect during the two wars and was regarded as an important strategy for the war. 2. The chemical industry helped to set forth an aggressive make up industry. 3. The orthopedic technique,1 of the war period resulted in the advancement of the plastic surgery business in the after war world. 4. After the First World War, the newly-risen American bourgeoisies' desire to show off their leisure activities provided from their wealth popularized suntan fast. 5. Strong, vital womanly beauty had been demanded in accordance with women's positive social Participation during the Second World War.

It is quite common today for bride to wear white-colored wedding-dress in wedding ceremony. When does the color date back to? What does the “white” mean? Which other colors had been used for wedding dress and why? This research paper aims to answer those historical questions through literature review. It is found here that the “white” began to be generally accepted for a wedding dress color in the 18th century, and that the color became an official one since the marriage of Queen Victoria's (i.e. 1840). Prior to that, other colors were taken rather than the “white”. In ancient Greece and Roma, “Red” and “Yellow” were used to remove devils or to bring fortune. In medieval society, luxurious wedding dresses were popular and various colors were adopted in order to show up family power among leading classes. The “White” has meant purity of bride since the 18th century. However, two world wars in the 20th century happened to lead some brides in economic difficulty wear “black” colored wedding dress for a practical reason. After the world wars, some light colors such as white, beige, ivory are to be used in wedding dress.

The science fiction was established as a typical genre of the American popular culture by the monumental releases of two series: Star Wars and Star Trek. Based on the popular science discourse, these two series have functioned as an ideological apparatus for re-appropriating Frontierism which reflects the essential values of American myth. Arguably, the SF genre owes its success mainly to the increasing popularity of science during the 1960s and 1970s, which was well represented in the space project of NASA. This power of popular science, however, tended to weaken in the 1990s as the public interest in NASA's project gradually decreased. "Deep Space Homer," an episode of The Simpson's fifth season, reflects the changing attitude of the American audience toward the new American hero created in the SF series of popular science in the previous popular culture.

The conflict between Iran and Israel has been a major source of instability and security threats in the Middle East. This study analyzes the historical background and modern aspects of the Israel-Iran conflict, examining its root causes, nuclear issues, proxy wars, cyber warfare, economic sanctions, and the role of the United States. The research employs qualitative methods, including literature review and case analysis, using various sources such as academic papers, government reports, and media articles. The findings suggest that the conflict is deeply rooted in historical, religious, and political factors, and has escalated since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The study highlights the need for dialogue, negotiation, and international mediation to resolve the conflict and maintain regional stability. The Israel-Iran conflict also provides valuable lessons for addressing the North Korean nuclear issue, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, international cooperation, and confidence-building measures.

The purpose of this study is to explicate the contemporary concept of the term 'sportswear' by studying the history of sportswear tradition in America where sportswear was first established and developed. American sportswear originated from some functional clothes made for specific sports during the 19th century. Early in 20th century, there occurred many significant events in America while Americans were undergoing two successive world wars. First of all, due to the wars, women's role in labor force became so significant that their social status was enhanced remarkably. With economy growing every decade, the amount of leisure time for American people substantially increased and, therefore they could develop their leisure activity culture. All these changes made Americans demand the need for comfortable and functional clothes suitable for their changed way of life. In response to this demand, the sportswear tradition became mature due to the contribution by many creative All-American designers, most of whom have made their active contributions since 1970s. Now the sportswear, which used to be designed for specific sports, developed into casual wear in general with its extended definition. The contemporary concept of sportswear is no longer limited to those clothes for specific sports. Sportswear has now become more like a casual activity wear which all classes of people can enjoy in their life. Since the concept and scope of sportswear is extended to a great degree today, we need a new professional term to correctly express the extended nature of these contemporary clothes.

Since the publication of Foucault's Discipline and Punish, theatricality has become one of the key concepts in New Historicism. By defining theatricality as the most definitive feature of early modern society and culture, New Historicists have promoted the idea that theatrical practices in every day life were eventually replaced by textual practices as the western society started to undergo modernization with the advent of print culture and technologies. This paper questions this linear model of English literature, the shift of literary practices from theatricality to textuality in the event of modernization, by closely looking at the ways in which newsbooks and playlets during the English civil wars appealed to their target readers. The early print-based literary commodities during the English civil war (i.e. newsbooks and playlets) were able to win the attention of their audience not by breaking away from theatrical energy and creativity but instead by embracing and taking advantage of them through the use of dramatic conventions, dialogues, and many others. The newsbooks and the playlets during the time, however, did not simply replicate the dramatic forms and experiences of the previous generation. Instead, as the case study of Craftie Cromwell exemplifies, they went further to produce a different mode of theatricality by reshaping everyday lives into serialized drama, whose resolution is always already delayed and postponed into the ever-receding future. In conclusion, the study of the newsbook and playlets during the civil wars suggests that the textuality of modern times, materialized in print forms, have been co-evolved with the development of new theatricality, whose contents and forms are susceptible to the changes of everyday reality.

2050년 미래 육군은 미래의 다양한 위협에 대비하고 초지능·초연결 무기체계를 효과적으로 활용하여 다영역 전장을 지배하고 승리를 달성하기 위한 새로운 개념의 싸우는 방법을 발전시켜야 한다. 미래 육군이 추구해야 할 방향은 다음과 같다. 첫째. 능력에 기초한 적극적·공세적인 군사전략의 수립이다. 둘째, 적 전투의지 마비를 위한 중심 타격 전투이다. 셋째, 다 영역을 활용한 동시 통합 모자이크 전투이다. 넷째, 시공간을 초월한 인공지능 기반의 사이버전이다. 다섯째, 복합 플랫폼 전쟁이다. 결국, 미래의 전쟁은 사이버상에서 보이지 않는 전쟁에 의해 승패가 좌우될 것이다.

The paper studies on the cooperation between the humanities & social sciences and natural science & technology in 1990's. The article showed policy alternatives about the crisis of humanities & social sciences. That was science wars and we heard that was announced by Sokal affair. In this article, the author inquired into the Korean research policy's crisis and presented the policy alternatives about the crisis of humanities & social sciences and natural science & technology in various ways. In the concrete, the policy alternatives are cultural critique of technology and science and science & development of domain about interdisciplinary studies at the humanities & social science and natural science & technology. In conclusion, First, the author showed the appraisal and institutionalization of interdisciplinary studies. Second, the researcher proposed few policy alternatives and developmental area of interdisciplinary studies between the humanities & social sciences and natural science & technology.
