The Symbolic Meaning of the Dog in the Dream Analysis : From the Viewpoint of Jung Psychology (꿈 분석 과정에서 나온 개의 상징적 의미 : 융 심리학의 입장에서)

  • In order to understand the symbolic meaning of the dog in my dream more broadly, this paper aims to examine the symbolic meaning of the dog in various cultures and to understand the inner side in depth through such a process. Just as the growth of a person's character can be achieved through the conscious of the unconsciousness, looking at the contents of dreams made up of symbolic images is an important part of the growth of a person's character. In this paper, I first looked at the biological background of dogs and looked at various cultural symbols of dogs that appear in fairytales, myths, religions and folklore. Next, I reflected how Jung psychology looked at the symbol of the dog and finally discussed what the symbol of the dog in my dream had in the process of analyzing the dream.

  • This study examines the space composition and character of 16th Renaissance Theater base on the theory of typology and interpreter in the european traditional classic theater. Baroque theater and early modern theater is considered as a symbolic representation of the renaissance theater's organization. In the historical theory, theater Teatro Olimpico and Teatro Farnese was a common tool and best systeme in reflecting renaissance type and perspective system. This role of type as life cycle and new style of theater permanent design has get its value with the population increase. This study attempts to revaluate the need of space typology in modern society through a critical review of theater and its use as a visual space. Content analysis was used to discuss the topics of this study including the historical background of the theater, the relationship between amphitheater and modern theater design, and the role of scenery, auditorium and its impact on Proscenium scenery. The scope of the study is limited to the comparison of 16th european theater and contemporary theater space use program from the space critic and sociologist. Today the concept of theatrical space is altered with the typology of classic and interpreter space. This study provides insights for the future implications of theatrical space in developing space for its a new definition as cultural representation.

David Henry Hwang's M. Butterfly: Postmodern Other, (Post-)Imperialist Melancholy and Western Masculinity in Crisis (포스트모던 제국의 우울증-데이빗 헨리 황의 『엠. 버터플라이』)

  • This article discusses David Henry Hwang's M. Butterfly as a suggestive text for examining Western masculinity in crisis in the post-imperialist age, in which territorial imperialism is no longer valid. Previous scholarship on M. Butterfly has centered around the interlocking dynamics of imperialism, racism and sexism. Such critical attentions focus on how Hwang deconstructs racialized significations of the East and the West. In these discussions, the issue of gender is often addressed merely as a trope to represent the power relations between the East and the West. As such, gender as well as sexuality is highlighted as the very source of subversion of the power relations. My discussion departs from a critique of the gendered trope of the East and the West, highlighting a postmodern agent, the allegedly feminized character Song Lining: a Chinese actor who passes for a woman for political purposes in postcolonial China. Remaining an "inappropriate/d other" in the gendered imperialist discourse, Song becomes an emergent subject, who is capable of playing gender ambiguity for reclaiming a devalued identity, that of homosexual Asian man. Discussing how the central character Rene Gallimard's masculine identity is constructed in a cross-cultural space and how it evolves, I also argue that Gallimard's melancholic death signifies a historical unsustainability of imperialist masculinity in the postmodern/postcolonial age since World War II.

  • In recent years, there has been significant interest and research on the Comprehensive Index of Character in the Warring States Period, which has resulted in many scholarly achievements. Hence, it is necessary to comprehensively categorize and summarize these achievements. Some researchers have already done a good job in this categorizing and summarizing. However, there is still work to be done in the comprehensive collation of the seal character research of the Warring States Period. The purpose of this essay is to regionalize the "SiMaZhiXi" Seal collected by "GuXiHuiBian (古璽彙編)" 0024. The number 0024 seal is an ancient seal collected by "Guxihuibian" (古璽彙編). In general, this is a Chu seal from the Warring States Period. But some scholars think that the seal is actually from the Qi or Yan States.

Panorama of 17th Century's Spain Seen Through Genre Painting (장르화를 통해 본 17세기 스페인 전경)

  • The economic decline coincided with the crooked political path of Spanish monarchy that has been on an almost permanent state of war. The Spanish empire was divided and consequently, general impoverishment spread throughout the whole country quickly. Nevertheless Spanish culture reached the climax, especially in the field of painting. Spanish paintings of 17th century are basically religious based on concept of Baroque, whose theme is usually the immaculate conception or mysterious figures of saints. Velaquez, Mrillo, and Ribera are the main painters who represented the trend of this time. Despite having fame as religious court painters, they painted subjects from low society such as beggars in rags, dwarves, jesters, or the poor child. They reflected an optimistic expression and an awe for human being in their paintings greatly. In this paper, we are dealing with three main representative painters of Baroque era whose theme was a picaresque character. This character was one of the axes that coexisted with royals and nobles in 17th century of Spain. The art works that are dealt in this paper serve as materials for historial values and through them we can observe the atmosphere of decline that dominated Spain of the time.

SEL-RefineMask: A Seal Segmentation and Recognition Neural Network with SEL-FPN

  • Digging historical and cultural information from seals in ancient books is of great significance. However, ancient Chinese seal samples are scarce and carving methods are diverse, and traditional digital image processing methods based on greyscale have difficulty achieving superior segmentation and recognition performance. Recently, some deep learning algorithms have been proposed to address this problem; however, current neural networks are difficult to train owing to the lack of datasets. To solve the afore-mentioned problems, we proposed an SEL-RefineMask which combines selector of feature pyramid network (SEL-FPN) with RefineMask to segment and recognize seals. We designed an SEL-FPN to intelligently select a specific layer which represents different scales in the FPN and reduces the number of anchor frames. We performed experiments on some instance segmentation networks as the baseline method, and the top-1 segmentation result of 64.93% is 5.73% higher than that of humans. The top-1 result of the SEL-RefineMask network reached 67.96% which surpassed the baseline results. After segmentation, a vision transformer was used to recognize the segmentation output, and the accuracy reached 91%. Furthermore, a dataset of seals in ancient Chinese books (SACB) for segmentation and small seal font (SSF) for recognition were established which are publicly available on the website.

A Research on the Women's Costume on the Bigdata of Movie Napoleon

  • The public can access movies more easily than any other cultural genre. The film's costumes convey the social, political, and cultural climate of that time period. Additionally, it subtly conveys the message of the movie, including the intentions of the director and the characters. Filmmakers can now use fact-based materials to plan their films, and audiences can now watch costume in movies with objective standards, particularly in period dramas, thanks to the advancements in over-the-top (OTT) services. The 77th British Academy costume Award went to the movie Napoleon because of how much emphasis it placed on the outfit. Ninety-five percent of the costume was made by experts in military uniforms and costumery. In contrast to the previous aristocratic and exaggerated Rococo costume, Napoleonic clothing had a natural and common-class character. A natural-shaped Chemise dress composed of light, reflective material first appeared in the Directoire era, just after the French Revolution. Chemise dresses made of a variety of materials gained popularity during the Empire era. With Napoleon taking the throne and Josephine becoming the empress, the vibrant court culture resurfaced during the Empire era. The silk was embellished with gold thread and embroidery, train dangling forms, and different types of sleeves appeared in Empire styles. They wore Pellisse and shawls under the coat. The hair style had long, ancient hair and was adorned with fillets. They also wore straw hats, bonnets, and caps. Long gloves and parasols were also popular accessories, as were pearl or colored jewelry necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. During the Empire era, tiaras were fashionable. Shoes were either low-heeled pumps or sandals. The movie uses Chemise and Empire costumes, which are versatile enough to be used in a range of settings and eras. When it came to details, the type of sleeve was employed without regard to time, such as when using those from an earlier or later period. Since jewelry was worn more often than not in that era, practically every character has earrings on their necklaces. Nearly exact replicas of the coronation costume can be found in paintings by Jacques-Louis David. The red trains, Josephine's Empire dress, the crown, the Tiara, and the costumes of every character in attendance were all clearly identifiable in terms of form and color. To further aid viewers in understanding and enhancing the film's overall coherence, a scene featuring David drawing the coronation was added. Overall, there were differences in that the historical costumes were accurately recreated, the materials and details were utilized without restriction, and some of the costumes were designed with modern materials or accessories that were used more than the historical costumes. This section appears to have been written to highlight the beauty of the characters' personalities or settings. There is a limitation to this study in that it only looked at aristocratic clothing, which includes Josephine's. We will concentrate on male clothing in future research.

  • In 21 century, Game industry became one field of the cultural content industries. Also, It is one of the most important technologies as a Multimedia, 3-D sound, virtual reality field, and character industry and its scale and effect are getting big. But Korea still lags behind America and Japan in developing game. For that, many support business progressed. However, Special importance〔emphasis〕 is attached to the developing of software engines. In the mean time, The game market of children(under 8) is the biggest one, which form over 30% of all the markets in the PC game market of America. The Children's game, which has both entertaining and educating, is a content-concerned industry. So with a short period of the developing time, they make a high value added. In this paper, 1 study the existing computer games and propose for game contents and the game factor's abstraction suited to the character by kid age. It is concluded that 'Asports', 'Asim,' 'U.J RPG', 'S+RPG' are beneficial to the child growth on each stage, through serveys analysis of protocol, and research of the cjaracters of the growth on the each age.

  • The background of historical Jing-Ju is a history, but the history Chinese wants to watch on the stage is the history dramatized by talented actors/actresses, not the history they want to learn. This thesis intends to examine traditional repertories whose background is historical people or accidents, among the lots of Jing-Ju repertories by each period, grasp periods, accidents, people, etc. preferred by Chinese and examine how they were dramatized. The general characteristics of historical Jing-Ju, grasped by each period, are as follows. The first, for the reason that there are lots of historical Jing-Ju in opera repertories, it can be mentioned by Chinese descriptive tradition and historical tradition. As lots of Chinese novels and drama works were written by history, basic models are suggested and clear development is shown, so there is an aspect which is advantageous for dramatization. Also, there are lots of works whose material is history for not only opera but also drama, TV drama because of the characteristics of China where historical books such as "史記", "戰國策", etc. The second, the period which is the background of historical Jing-Ju focuses on 漢 period, 三國 period, 隋唐 period, 宋 period and 明 period. It seems to be reflected by Chinese superiority to some degree if considering Jing-Ju was extremely popular during the 民國 period. The third, there are many characters who have patriotism loyalty among the historical Jing-Ju. It seems to be the result of discovering lots of materials for appealing patriotism in the situation they were dominated by Japan and the West during the 民國 period. The forth, the most single material is "三國志" among the historical Jing-Ju. This material has the factors of traditional idea, loyalty, fidelity, etc, but there are the most interesting characters and they were popularized by novels, etc. The fifth, in the historical Jing-Ju, the contents and character forms can be sometimes changed by character's skill because character's artistic achievement can play a great role for the completion of Jing-Ju.

Digitization of Old Korean Texts with Obsolete Korean Characters and Suggestion for Improvement of Information Sharing (옛한글 문서의 전자문서화와 정보공유 방법 제안)

  • A vast amount of materials-such as prints, woodblock prints, manuscripts, old novels, and letters-written in old Korean and using old grammar and/or obsolete characters, are collected in many institutions, including the Jangseogak at the Academy of Korean Studies. Digitization of these texts has required a prolonged manual inputting process. Individual researchers, who majored in old Korean, have read and typed the characters into electronic documents, which depends upon individual skill, effort, and approach, and is particularly limiting because none can be significantly increased. To date, only a small proportion of the old Korean document collections, currently kept in storage, have been digitized and made available to the public. Even the electronic formats of the texts prove difficult to displaying correctly, due to the incompatibility between the old Korean characters and the character set on today's electronic devices. To improve the techniques and efficiency of digitizing old Korean texts, it is necessary to develop optical character recognition (OCR), which will analyze images of old Korean documents, as well as input, display, and storage methods.
