Cultural contact, which means a current that an influential culture diffuses to another, represents the penetration of the one to the other in a negative respect and'mixture'or 'fusion'of them in an affirmative respect. Fusion of cultures was not easy to take place in the past when nationalism and ultranationalism suppressed it ideologically, inconvenient transportation and communications were obstacles to it, and most of countries were under the influences of folk religions. Today, however, mutually heterogeneous cultures can be shared by a lot of things such as collapse of a view of nation resulted from globalization, breakdown of regional characteristics, abolition of trade barriers, freedom of communications and realtime information network. Those have rendered fusion possible. Fusion in this modern consuming society is extending much faster and more extensively than at any time in the past. In addition, more and more cultural elements seem to collide and compromise with one another in the name of fusion, not relaxing the bridle of fusion, from the present situations that preference in consumption becomes subdivided and a variety of individuality is strongly attempted to seek for, This study is on the subject of the properties of'Fusion', one of new styles in a mass culture, especially focused on sociologic cultural phenomena. Furthermore, it is expected to look for a fusion in interior design which expresses sociologic cultural phenomena most in a field of design, to examine it theoretically, and to prospect a future trend of fusion design based on investigation of the latest prevailing trend.

This research aims to discuss the impact of on regional development as a place brand and glocal heritage. Based on understanding of the changes and influences of local heritages in the globalization era as a key component of place branding, this study explores how is used to develop a place branding strategy for Lijiang. The research methods are both a literature review and a field research related to Lijiang and its culture. Also, the resources from news, internet, and YouTube are used to analyze the impact of . The performance has been attracting tourists from both Chineses and foreigners and contributed to increase the economic profits of local tourism industry as one of the representative identities of Lijiang. Also, in the process of preservation and recreation of cultural heritages of Lijiang such as , the participation of local residents and on-going interactions between the residents and global tourists highly influence on a transition from place marketing to place branding. By applying local cultural heritages to place branding strategies, the regional values of Lijiang strengthen its place identity from a place of preserving a minority's heritage to that of flourishing cultural exchanges and hybridization from the world.
Design securing a dominant position currently in the global market has shown inherent culture of each country, i.d. national disposition. For instancess, there are Scandinavia emphasizing humanism, America adopting pragmatism, Germany reflecting the rational principle, Spain reflecting the daily an, Italian design being rationalism and impressionism. The members of society shall be under the control of the already formed social-cultural value and character. So culture shall restrict the internal manner of social behaviour and apply pressure to the action of main body. Also culture shall be under the control of social environment and each culture shall be materialized as per the disposition of the members of society. Now korean design has been attracted lots of interests and attention from global market because it is excellent in the aspect of application capability for new technology and also suggests the image of design produced through them. Now Korean design shall run side by side the application for formative element to be recognized by technical design as well as korean identity. So dear definition for national and cultural disposition shall be required to korean design education and design development. These prescribed efforts shall be a shortcut for globalization of korean design.
It is important to inherit and develop the unique cultural characteristics of each country and region in the trend of globalization. The traditional lighting fixtures in China are the main artifacts that can be used to extract the cultural aesthetics and practicality of the people, and are a major relic of the people's cultural sensitivities and practicalities. The purpose of this study is to understand the background of the time and the meaning of national culture through the lighting equipment of the most revived Tang Dynasty in Chinese history. The purpose of this paper is to examine the development trend of lighting equipment in the Tang Dynasty through the recognition of the social background, religious thought, cultural characteristics, and characteristics of lighting fixtures in the Tang Dynasty. In this paper, we analyzed seven factors (function, molding, fuel, usage space, usage method, religious thought, and living environment) of the Tang dynasty lighting fixtures through multiple factor analysis method. In addition, the Tang Dynasty period lighting fixtures had four trends: "popularization of lighting, universal simplification of molding, diversification of use, and spread of Buddhist influence." This tendency has a meaning to provide a new motive for modern lighting design in the context of cultural uniqueness and perspectives.
For the effective study of Korean modernization from the 18th century to the present, three areas have been investigated in my paper: the age of dawn in recognizing the necessity of modernism, the era of experimentation from recognition to practice, and the development of modernism in literature: from the 1930s to the present. Through whole process of discussing those matters, Koreanity- identifying itself to be Korean - has been emphasized. While the so-called traditional values confronted with the whole turmoil of socio-political demolitions in the name of modernization, westernization, and culturalization, Korean intellectuals tried to emphasize how important it was to keep Korean identities, namely the Koreanity. Such examples can be seen in the activities of Northern School and Moderate School. Though Koreans had to have a short hair cut in contradiction with their traditional morality to be modernized/westernized/cultivated, it was a turning point for them to take a step toward the international world. During the period of Korean modernization through the impact of Western world, Korean language-hangul- has been cultivated to the highest level in comparison with two foreign languages: Japanese and English. Those Korean linguists who were familiar with these two languages made Korean grammar systematic and they understood the importance of preserving Koreanity in the course of pursuing modem western society. In this sense, Korean modernism is related to the cultural glocalism(globalism+ localism), not to the cultural globalism. Through the help of socio-political modernization, Korean literature in modernism has been full bloomed in the early years of 1930s. One of the leading poets was Sang Lee whose poetic heritage is inherited by those groups of 1950s and I 960s. Among many others, Chunsu Kim and Sunghun Lee were the main figures in realizing the fact the poetry is written in Korean which they considered the body, the soul, and the mother land.
This study focuses on the genealogical analysis of the urban public spaces by the local history of Seoul which is significantly different from western cities. The analysis targets the discourse of the urban street which defines urban space-structure among the urban public spaces. Based on the analysis, we define the progress levels of urban public design policy in Seoul. Firstly, in 1960's and 1970's, 'urban reconstruction' was intensively carried out for the country modernization, and 'vehicle preferred street expansion' resulted in damages to historical inheritance, in-humanized street, and cultural uniformity. 1980's and 1990's would be defined as 'politic acceptance of plural values to the urban street.' There were the Olympic Games held in Seoul in 1988, which were the celebrations of the 600th capital establishment and the autonomous local government system. In the meanwhile, diverse values on the urban street were discussed in terms of globalization. There also were the self-reflection for the urban skyscrapers and high-population rate, the cultural uniformity of urban street, and the commercialization in downtown with urban reconstruction plans. Then, the sense of landscape and amenity was focused. Various urban projects and regulations were held according to the changes of value recognition. 2000's can be defined as 'introduction to the organic integration and the urban public design governance.' In the 21st century, types of recognition have changed significantly, which include publicness, humanism, sustainability, symbolism, artistry, placeness, and communication. They cause the establishment of ordinances and the installation of integrated organization via urban design administration. The legislation has been revised in order to support the various methods for the maintenance and operation of urban landscape in terms of local characteristics. New regulations were established for residents to participate in the processes of the urban planning with street design policy.
An arirang is the most famous Korean folk song and was registered in UNESCO(Unitied Nations Educational, Scientific and cultural Organization) as an intangible cultural heritage in 2012. Most arirangs are composed of text and refrain parts. Genealogy of the arirang was classified in refrain patterns by using multiple sequence alignment algorithm. There are two different refrain patterns, slow and fast melodies. Of 106 arirangs, 38 and 68 arirangs contain fast and slow melodies, respectively. 73 arirangs and 104 their key words were extracted from bipartate arirang network that composed of arirangs, text works, and their relationships. The correlation among the arirangs was analyzed from the selected arirangs and key words by using pairwise comparison matrix. Also, analysis of correlation among the arirnags was performed by stepwise removal of the single degree nodes from the bipartate arirang network In this study, arirangs were analyzed in genealogy and correlation among arirangs by using informatic algorithm and network technology, in which arirang research will be constructed a stepping stone for the popularization and globalization of the arirangs.
This study investigates the satisfaction of the culinary students during their studies in Rhode Island State (R1) in the United States. This research will prepare and give guidance to those who wish to study abroad. For this research, interviews and surveys were conducted and along with total of 68 copies of questionnaire were collected from to the Korean culinary students in the RI from Sep. 2007 to Mar. 2008. The analysis of the data was based on a Likert scale. Findings showed that most students chose to study abroad in their major felt satisfied with their school facilities. The research also indicated that where few challenges, such as language barrier and cultural differences. The inconveniences were with language problems and progress gradually into cultural challenges. In this respect, culinary students need to have more linguistic preparation and as well as to learn the importance of multiculturalism and globalization. Successful study abroad requires both personal and academic preparation. Teacher and parents should give supports and provide the fundamental skills that the students need to have a productive experience.

Since the use of textile has become more extensive and applied for various products, today, the importance of utility, ornament and civilization of textile is emphasized. Textile design should be able to satisfy the designer's creativity and his/her world of art. Moreover, it should be appropriate for the industrial technology circumstances, and taste of consumers. In Korea, traditional culture has been extremely valued, allowing people to be more interested in textile designs derived from traditional cultural. Therefore, designs inspired by the spirit and sense of traditional patterns has been used to develop modern textile designs. Prior research on products, however, show that cultural motive was insufficient, therefore, in this research the purpose is to design textiles and to develop Korean neckties, an essential component of men's attire, by adapting Korean traditional patterns. In order to conduct the research, first, numerous parers on Korean traditional patterns have been studied to select fundamental data about the development of necktie textile designs. Second, Korean traditional patterns were applied while following the target and concept, and two pieces of necktie textile designs have been suggested. Patterns had been designed by hand drawing and CAD system, they have been suggested as a portfolio. As a result, this article suggests new necktie designs utilizing Korean traditional patterns and, attempts to develop particular pattern designs, which have power to accommodate globalization and to express the special qualities of Korea.
This research analyzed the Chinese style design embodied in the collections of the new generation of fashion designers shown during the Shanghai Fashion Week to improve the understanding of Chinese style and the modernization of Chinese design. The research questions were 1) studying the development of the Chinese fashion industry chronologically and investing young designers' current situation, 2) investigating young designers' awareness of Chinese style and analyzing Chinese style design in collections. A literature and case study were conducted as the research method. The literature study focused on the books about the Chinese fashion industry and history, newspaper, articles, and so on. The case study was conducted among 63 Chinese style collections in 2016-2020 SFW by investigating fashion magazine reviews, articles, and so on. The findings are as follows: 1) Young Chinese fashion designers' awareness of Chinese style has three characteristics; the nonmaterial tendency from decreasing stereotyped images, combination of traditional culture and local youth culture, and commercialization with trends. 2) Chinese elements, including natural, character, and cultural elements were predominantly used in the concept, pattern, and shape. Nonmaterial characteristics were identified in concept, cultural combination characteristics in concept, shape, color, material, and pattern, and trend commercialization in shape, color, and pattern. In conclusion, Chinese young fashion designers had strong national consciousness and new awareness of Chinese style fashion in decreasing the stereotyped images of China. Thus, they used more varied expressions. Meanwhile, they faced difficulties in expressing nonmaterial Chinese elements by balancing them with Chinese style and globalization.
