Cross-cultural Validation of Instruments Measuring Health Beliefs about Colorectal Cancer Screening among Korean Americans

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the instrument modification and validation processes to make existing health belief model scales culturally appropriate for Korean Americans (KAs) regarding colorectal cancer (CRC) screening utilization. Methods: Instrument translation, individual interviews using cognitive interviewing, and expert reviews were conducted during the instrument modification phase, and a pilot test and a cross-sectional survey were conducted during the instrument validation phase. Data analyses of the cross-sectional survey included internal consistency and construct validity using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The main issues identified during the instrument modification phase were (a) cultural and linguistic translation issues and (b) newly developed items reflecting Korean cultural barriers. Cross-sectional survey analyses during the instrument validation phase revealed that all scales demonstrate good internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alpha=.72~.88). Exploratory factor analysis showed that susceptibility and severity loaded on the same factor, which may indicate a threat variable. Items with low factor loadings in the confirmatory factor analysis may relate to (a) lack of knowledge about fecal occult blood testing and (b) multiple dimensions of the subscales. Conclusion: Methodological, sequential processes of instrument modification and validation, including translation, individual interviews, expert reviews, pilot testing and a cross-sectional survey, were provided in this study. The findings indicate that existing instruments need to be examined for CRC screening research involving KAs.

결혼 이주 여성의 현황과 문제: 새로운 여성간호 대상자의 출현 (International Marriage Migrant Women in Korea)

  • Purpose: The findings of various studies and policy reports on marriage change, international marriage migrant women and its issues are presented in this study. Method: Research objectives were accomplished by conducting a literature review. The main areas of the literature review included married migrant women, its challenges, and current policies for international marriage migrant women. Result: Women migrating through international marriage are known to face various difficulties due to their migration. Some important obstacles women migrants face in the Republic of Korea are cultural differences in daily lifestyle, language, food, health care services, cultural assumptions, gender structure, family relationships, expected roles within family, interpersonal relationships and more. The plights of married migrant women include commercialization of international marriage, false information regarding the spouse, family abuse, insecure nationality, economic difficulty and unemployment, racial prejudice, and cultural maladjustment. Current support policies for migrant women living in Korea are suggested. Conclusion: This study concluded with policy implications and recommendations for future study. In addition, the author suggests the necessity of programs and policies for the improvement of married migrant women's well-being based on women's health and family nursing dimensions.

  • Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is online education that anyone can register for free and has internet access. MOOC is also called Education Revolution and is spreading rapidly all over the world. Although recent MOOC high-quality classes may enhance the value of MOOC, MOOC learning still needs much research. Since MOOC has low learning completion rate and continuous use rate, various studies on the reasons that learners give up at the beginning of learning have not been tried yet This research is studied for the continuous intention of use of MOOC applying self-determination theory and learning flow theory based on technology acceptance model. In particular, the research are conducted for cultural difference in continuous usage of MOOC between Korean and Chinese. The research results show that self-determination theory applying perceived autonomy, perceived competence, and perceived relatedness and learning flow is useful to explain continuous use of MOOC. The research also shows that Hofstede theory works well in explaining the cultural difference between Korea and China in continuous usage of MOOC. The result shows that korean is more influenced by perceived external motivation like perceived usefulness and chinese is more influenced by internal motivation like learning flow in continuous use of MOOC.

  • 본 연구는 문화와 정서지능과의 의존관계를 정립하여 정서지능 연구에 새로운 시각을 부여하려고 했다. 본 연구의 전제는 개인정서의 지각, 평가, 표현, 이해, 조절 등이 문화에 크게 영향을 받기 때문에 인간의 다양한 정서 프로세스를 기초로 개발된 정서지능 역시 문화에 많은 영향을 받는다는 것이다. 본 논문은 문화가 정서지능에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위해서 미국과 한국의 직장인을 대상으로 정서지능을 측정한 후, 정서지능과 문화의 의존관계를 실험하였다. 주어진 상황 아래서 정서적 반응이 문화 간 다양한 변화를 보인다는 것을 입증함으로서 정서지능이 문화에 의존한다는 것을 보였다. 또한, 본 연구는 Bar-On Emotional Quotient-Inventory (EQ-i)의 2차 데이터를 사용하여 13개국의 19,402명의 정서지능과 문화적 거리의 관계를 조사하였다. 연구결과로서 Hofstede의 문화차원 중 권력의 거리 (power distance)만이 정서지능에 유의미한 결과를 보였다.

농촌 어메니티 인식의 구조와 의미 (An Investigation of Structure and Meaning of Rural Amenity)

  • 본 연구는 일반인들이 농촌 어메니티 인식의 구조와 의미를 고찰하였다. 어메니티 관련 요소들에 대한 중요도 평가를 측정한 설문결과를 바탕으로 요인분석에 의해 중요한 인식의 차원을 도출하고 상이한 조사집단간 비교를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 일반인들의 농촌어메니티 인식에 있어서 생활여건의 편리성, 자연친화성, 역사문화성 등의 세 가지 핵심적 차원들이 존재하는 것으로 확인되었다. 그러나 기대와 달리 도시민이나 농촌주민들 모두 이 세 가지 핵심차원들간의 상대적 중요성을 동일한 양상으로 평가하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 상대적으로 편리한 생활여건을 갖춘 도시민들조차 생활여건의 편리함을 희생하면서까지 농촌어메니티를 추구하지는 않는 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 역사문화성, 자연친화성에 더 강조하는 학계나 계획가들의 태도와는 일정한 괴리가 존재하고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

북한이탈주민 어머니의 부모신념 유형에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Parental Belief Types of Mothers who Defected from North Korea)

  • This study explored the parental belief types of mothers who had defected from North Korea and found out its relationship to the mother's child-rearing behaviors and socio-demographical variables and the child's age. 89 mothers who had defected from North Korea with the youngest child being under 20 years old, responded to the questionnaire. The data were statistically analyzed by cluster analysis, MANOVA, and $X^2$-test. The results showed that the parental beliefs were clustered into 3 types: 'high child- and parent-centered & low cultural transformation'(cluster 1)(37.08%), 'low child- and parent-centered & middle cultural transformation'(cluster 2)(46.03%), and 'high child- and parent-centered & high cultural transformation'(cluster 3)(16.85%). The differences among the clusters were found in the warmth-acceptance and rejection-restriction dimensions of the mother's child-rearing behaviors. The frequencies of each cluster were meaningfully different depending on the mother's age, educational level, length of residence in South Korea, and their child's age. Based on these findings, the implications and suggestions were discussed.

해외직구에 대한 고객 만족도 : 최종사용자 만족 모형을 기반으로 (Consumers' Satisfaction for Cross Border Online Shopping : Based on the End-User Computing Satisfaction Model)

  • While the term online shopping refers to all online transactions, cross-border online shopping means shopping activities purchasing products or services over the internet for the customers abroad. As Internet use for the international shopping activity increasing, cross border online shopping has grown substantially for last decade. This study is about the problem regarding the cross border online shopping for two different countries and the variables that influence their shopping behavior. The cross border online shopping has been increased by the growth of Internet access. However, the growth of the Internet use does not guarantee a successful development of cross border e-commerce for every country. To find out the perception for cross-border online shopping for two different cultures, shoppers from two countries with different cultural background were chosen, and the perception for cross-border online shopping from each culture is contrasted. For statistical Analysis, ANOVA is used to find the relationship between a single non-metric independent variable, and multiple metric dependent variables. Hofstede's cultural dimensions model is adopted for this study as a tool to find out the patterns of cross border online shopping. This study showed what the variables would affect the perception in cross border online shopping. The results of this study indicated that cross border online shoppers with different culture were notably different on two variables identified-timeliness and ease of use.

문화기반 산업유산 공간의 장소성 평가 연구 - 북경 798 예술지구를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Evaluation of Placeness of Industrial Heritages Space with Cultural Characteristics - Focused on Beijing 798 Art Zone in China -)

  • This study was to build a frame and direction of an analysis of the evaltion of placeness of industrial heritages space, and then to evaluate Beijing 798. First, by studying references, 15 elements in 6 dimensions were derived from the evaluation of placeness of industrial heritage and applied in the evaluation of placeness of Beijing 798 art zone. Second, the changes of Bejing 798 art zone can be classified in 4 steps, latency, quickening, growth, and union, which has been growing from studios with artists to complex cultural art place based on studios and gallery. Third, place characteristics of 798 art zone was analysis with the measurements of morphological, perceptual, social, visual, functional, and temporal points. Fourth, a survey was done in order to evaluate placeness of Beijing 798 art zone.In conclusion, the result of the evaluation of placeness of industrial heritages space through Beijing 798 art zone shows that uniqueness and indigenousness are highly valued which verifies that the differentiation from other places and uniqueness are the essential element.

천안 성거산 위례성 출토 목어의 적외선 조사 및 보존처리 (Infrared Irradiation and Conservation Treatment of Wooden Fish Excavated from Wiryeseong Fortress on Seonggeosan Mountain in Cheonan)

  • 천안 성거산 위례성에서 출토된 목어 2점은 장기간 매장환경에서 열화되어 재질이 매우 취약하였다. 따라서 목재 재질 강화 및 치수 안정화를 통해 변형을 방지하고자 보존처리를 진행하였다. 보존처리 전 목어의 수종분석을 진행하였으며 소나무류로 식별되었다. 또한, 목어에 남아있는 문양 확인으로 어종을 확인하기 위해 적외선 조사를 진행하였으며 적외선 조사 결과 목어에 남아있는 문양을 통해 잉어로 확인되었다. 보존처리는 PEG#3,350 수용액에 40% 농도까지 함침 처리 후 진공동결건조하는 방법으로 실시하였다.

럭셔리 브랜드의 지속가능 실천 사례에 관한 연구 (A Case Study of the Sustainable Practice in Luxury Brands)

  • This study aimed to understand the current status of practice for sustainability in luxury fashion brands. A total of five luxury brands (Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Gucci, Burberry, and Prada) were selected. Each company's official website, sustainability reports, and articles on sustainability practices were compiled. In addition, analysis was performed based on criteria of sustainability such as environmental, social, economical, and cultural dimensions. As a result, the biggest commonality of the five brands was that they promoted the most active change in the environment. These brands tried to reduce energy consumption in materials and production processes. Among them, Burberry, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton had their own departments for sustainability. However, there were differences in strategies of activities between brands for social, economical, and cultural sustainability. Among the five companies, Burberry and Gucci pursued sustainability strategies the most aggressively. They separated their sustainability strategies in terms of environmental, social, economical, and cultural aspects and shared them with consumers. A set of outcomes for the plan were provided as objective data. The sustainable management strategy has become a key strategy for long-term growth of the luxury brand market. To survive in the market, luxury brands should elaborate sustainable management strategies and actively share them with consumers.
