The present work was aimed to examine the changes of the shape and particle size distribution(PSD) of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ particles on ageing in Al-Li-(Cu, Zr) alloys which had low density, high specific strength and stiffness, Increasing ageing time and temperature resulted in particles whose aspect ratio tended toward 1. The aspect ratio of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ particles was not dependent upon the ageing temperature and time in Al-Li-Cu alloy but was dependent upon them in Al-Li-Zr alloy. The PSD of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ particles in Al-Li-Zr alloy skewed to the right hand compared with that in Al-Li-Cu alloy, because $Al_3Zr$ phase in Al-Li-Zr alloy formed before ageing promoted the precipitation and growth of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ phase. Therefore, the PSD of the ${\delta}^{\prime}$ particles was found to be affected by the presence of $Al_3Zr$ particles. The growth rate of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ phase was not affected by the existence of the third transition phase $T_1$ formed by the addition of Cu in Al-Li alloy but was affected by the existence of $Al_3Zr$ formed by the addition of Zr in Al-Li alloy.
The evaluation and analysis of diffusivity of lithium for coarsening and coarsening kinetics of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ precipitate in Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy aged at $170^{\circ}C$ have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. With ageing time, ${\delta}^{\prime}$ precipitate coaesened to followed $\bar{\gamma}{\propto}t^{1/3}$ and coarsening kinetics was found to be obeyed to the Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner(LSW) theory and diffusivity of lithium for coarsening of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ precipitate in Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy was obtained to be $5.85{\times}10^{-17}{\sim}1.53{\times}10^{-16}$ by experimental coarsening rate constant and various coarsening kinetic theory. Diffusivity of lithium measured by using various model but MLSW and Tsumuraya (VI) et al. model in Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy is similar to that calculated by the Costas's diffusivity equation. It was, therefore, suggested that additing to the Cu, Mg and Zr element in Al-Li system have no great effect on diiffusivity of lithium for coarsening of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ This suggest that in matrix.

The crystallization kinetics of the $Cu_{43}Zr_{43}Al_7Be_7$ bulk metallic glass were studied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) in the continuous heating and isothermal annealing modes. Only one major peak could be detected on the DSC traces of $Cu_{43}Zr_{43}Al_7Be_7$ bulk amorphous alloy, and the activation energy for crystallization corresponding to the peak determined by the Kissinger method was resulted of 239 kJ/mol. The isothermal kinetic, analyzed by the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation yielded values for the Avrami exponents in the range 1.69 to 2.37, which implied a crystallization governed by a three-dimensioned growth. Primary phases were essentially the cubic structure CuZr together with the $Cu_{10}Zr_7$ phase. At higher temperature, the CuZr disappeared while the $Cu_{10}Zr_7$ became predominant. After long term annealing at 731 K, the phases were $Cu_{10}Zr_7$, $Cu_2ZrAl$ and $Al_3Zr_5$.
Bulk amorphous alloys with reasonable glass forming ability and large plasticity were found in Zr-Cu-Al alloys. Further increase in the GFA and the ductility is expected by appropriately choosing a fourth element. In this study, we select Be as the fourth element and added to the Zr-Cu-Al system to synthesize $(Zr_{57.4}Cu_{38.1}Al_{4.5})_{100-x}Be_x$(x=0~16) alloys and the glass forming ability and the plasticity were measured. With Be addition, the supercooled liquid region (${\Delta}T_x$), the plasticity and GFA as high as $134^{\circ}C$, 20.5%, 7 mm, respectively, can be obtained. Herein, we present the effect of Be addition on the variations of various mechanical properties and thermal characteristics of the $(Zr_{57.4}Cu_{38.1}Al_{4.5})_{100-x}Be_x$ alloys.

In order to broaden the range of application of light weight aluminum alloys, it is necessary to enhance the mechanical properties of the alloys and combine them with other materials, such as cast iron. In this study, the effects of adding small amounts of Cu and Zr to the Al-Si-Mg based alloy on tensile properties and corrosion characteristics were investigated, and the effect of the addition on the interfacial compounds layer with the cast iron was also analyzed. Although the tensile strength of the Al-Si-Mg alloy was not significantly affected by the additions of Cu and Zr, the corrosion resistance in 3.5 %NaCl solution was found to be somewhat lowered in this research. The influence of Cu and Zr addition on the type and thickness of the interfacial compounds layer formed during compound casting with cast iron was not significant, and the main interfacial compounds were identified to be Al5FeSi and Al8Fe2Si phases, as in the case of the Al-Si-Mg alloys.
In this study the changes of the hardness and microstructures during aging at 120$^{\cire}C$ of an RS-P/M Al-5.6wt%Zn-2.0wt%Mg-1.3wt%Zr-1.0wt%Mn-0.25wt%Cu alloy were studied using a transmission electron microscopy. The hardness increased rapidly at early stage of aging and reached the maximun when the specimen was aged for 24 hr. The many irregular-shaped $Al_4Mn$ and rod-shaped $Al_6Mn$ dispersoids with 0.1-0.4 $\mu$m in length were observed in the as-extruded alloy. The dark particles with 2-3 nm in size were observed in aged specimen for 5hr and those are thought to be G.P.zones or precursor of $\eta'$ precipitates. In aged specimen for 24 hr, the $\eta'$ phases were distributed homogeneously within the matrix and the PFZ with 30-40 nm in width was observed along the grain boundary. With further aging, the width of PFZ increased and $\eta$ phases were also detected within the matrix.
Experiments have demonstrated that a moderate amount of Be added to $Zr_{57.5}Cu_{38.3}Al_{4.2}$ amorphous alloy enhances the plasticity of the alloy. In particular, $Zr_{54}Cu_{36}Al_{4}Be_{6}$ alloy exhibited 19% of strain to fracture along with a strength exceeding 2 GPa. Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy conducted on the $Zr_{54}Cu_{36}Al_{4}Be_{6}$ alloy exhibited the presence of compositional modulation, indicating that nm-scale phase separation had occurred at local regions. In this study, the role played by the nm-scale phase separation on the plasticity was investigated in terms of structural disordering, structural softening and shear localization in order to better understand the structural origin of the enhanced plasticity shown by the developed alloy.
Large insoluble phases and dispersoids in Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Mn-Zr alloys containing Mn were analyzed with EPMA(Electron Probe Microanalyzer) and SAEM(Scanning Auger Electron Microscope). Morphology, distribution and volume fraction of the large insoluble phase were also analyzed quantitatively by optical microscopy. Mechanical properties were tested at room temperature and at $200^{\circ}C$. With increasing Mn contents, the volume fraction of the large insoluble phases increased steeply, thus decreasing ductility. Mn was found to be very effective for obtaing uniformly distributed fine-grain structures. The alloy containing 0.44 wt% Mn showed the highest tensile strength among Mn-bearing alloys tested.

Although the bulge forming technique is currently employed in commercial superplastic forming processes, the uniaxial tensile test is still the most commonly used method for the evaluation of the superplasticity of materials due to its simplicity in testing. However, the results obtained from the uniaxial tensile test can not be applied in analyzing the characteristics of the real parts formed in multi-axial stress state. In this paper, using the tensile test specimen obtained from the square cup manufactured by superplastic forming, tensile strength and elongation have been investigated according to the strain and cavity volume fraction. From the result of experiment, tensile strength and elongation are decreased according to the strain and cavity in Al-6%Cu-0.4%Zr alloy. On condition of uniaxial stress, cavity volume fraction is increased on linear according to the increasement of thickness strain. However, on condition of biaxial stress there are critical point( E t=1.5-1.6) that the slope, the ratio of cavity volume fraction and strain, have been changed. Therefore, cavity volume fraction is different with respect to stress condition, although the same strain.
