To achieve the fabrication of high-quality Ag-coated Cu particles through a wet chemical process, we reported herein pretreatment conditions using an ammonium-based mixed solvent for the removal of a $Cu_2O$ layer on Cu particles that were oxidized in air for 1 hr at $200^{\circ}C$ or for 3 days at room temperature. Furthermore, we discussed the results of post-Ag plating with respect to removal level of the oxide layer. X-ray diffraction results revealed that the removal rate of the oxide layer is directly proportional to the concentration of the pretreatment solvent. With the results of Auger electron spectroscopy using oxidized Cu plates, the concentrations required to completely remove 50-nm-thick and 2-nm-thick oxides within 5 min were determined to be X2.5 and X0.13. However, the optimal concentrations in an actual Ag plating process using Cu powder increased to X0.4 and X0.5, respectively, because the oxidation in powder may be accelerated and the complete removal of oxide should be tuned to the thickest oxide layer among all the particles. Back-scattered electron images showed the formation of pure fine Ag particles instead of a uniform and smooth Ag coating in the Ag plating performed after incomplete removal of the oxide layer, indicating that the remaining oxide layer obstructs heterogeneous nucleation and plating by reduced Ag atoms.
Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have outstanding mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Thus, by placing nanotubes into appropriate matrix, it is postulated that the resulting composites will have enhanced properties. Cold spray can produce thick metal-based composite coatings with very high density, low oxygen content, and phase purity, which leads to excellent physical properties. In this study, we applied cold spray coating process for the consolidation of Cu/CNT composite powder. The precursor powder mixture, in which CNTs were filled into copper particles, was prepared to improve the distribution of the CNT in copper matrix. Pure copper coating was also conducted by cold spraying as a reference. Annealing heat treatment was applied to the coating to examine its effect on the properties of the composite coating. The hardness of Cu/CNT composite coating represented similar value to that of pure copper coating. It was importantly found that the electrical conductivity of the Cu/CNT composite coating significantly increased from 53% for the standard condition to almost 55% in the optimized condition, taking annealed ($500^{\circ}C/1hr$.) copper coating as a reference (100%). The thermal conductivity of Cu/CNT composite coating layer was higher than that of pure Cu coating. It was also found that the electrical and thermal conductivities of Cu/CNT composite could be improved through annealing heat treatment. The microstructural evolution of Cu/CNT coating was also investigated and related to the macroscopic properties.
ZnO crystals with different morphologies are synthesized through thermal evaporation of the mixture of Zn and Cu powder in air at atmospheric pressure. ZnO crystals with wire shape are synthesized when the process is performed at $1,000^{\circ}C$, while tetrapod-shaped ZnO crystals begin to form at $1,100^{\circ}C$. The wire-shaped ZnO crystals form even at $1,000^{\circ}C$, indicating that Cu acts as a reducing agent. As the temperature increases to $1,200^{\circ}C$, a large quantity of tetrapod-shaped ZnO crystals form and their size also increases. In addition to the tetrapods, rod-shaped ZnO crystals are observed. The atomic ratio of Zn and O in the ZnO crystals is approximately 1:1 with an increasing process temperature from $1,000^{\circ}C$ to $1,200^{\circ}C$. For the ZnO crystals synthesized at $1,000^{\circ}C$, no luminescence spectrum is observed. A weak visible luminescence is detected for the ZnO crystals prepared at $1,100^{\circ}C$. Ultraviolet and visible luminescence peaks with strong intensities are observed in the luminescence spectrum of the ZnO crystals formed at $1,200^{\circ}C$.
In this study, $CuInSe_{2}$ (CISe) and $CuInZnSe_{2}$ (CIZSe) thin films were prepared on Corning 1737 glass by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering from binary chalcogenide mixed powder targets. The targets were initially prepared by mixing appropriate weights of CuSe, InSe powder and various ZnSe contents. From the film bulk analysis result, it is observed that Zn concentration in the films increases proportionally with the addition of ZnSe in the sputtering targets. Under optimized conditions, CISe and CIZSe thin films grow as a chalcopyrite structure with strong (112), (220/204) and (312/116) reflections. Films are found to exhibit a high absorption coefficient of $10^{4}$$cm^{-1}$. An increasing of optical band gap from 1.0 eV (CISe) to 1.25 eV (CIZSe) is found to be proportional with an increasing of Zn concentration as expected. All films have a p-type semiconductor characteristic with a carrier concentration in the order of 1014 $cm^{-3}$, a mobility about $10^{1}$$cm^{2{\cdot}-1}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and a resistivity at the range of $10^{2}-10^{6}$ W${\cdot}$m.
The microstructure and mechanical properties of hot-pressed $Al_2O_3/Cu$ composites with a different sintering temperature have been studied. The size of matrix grain and Cu dispersion in composites increased with increase in sintering temperature. Fracture toughness of the composite sintered at high temperature exhibited an enhanced value. The toughness increase was explained by the thermal residual stress, crack bridging and crack branching by the formation of microcrack. The nanocomposite, hot-pressed at $1450^{\circ}C$, showed the maximum fracture strength of 707 MPa. The strengthening was mainly attributed to the refinement of matrix grains and the increased toughness.
Cu-Mn compacts are fabricated by the pulsed current activated sintering method (PCAS) for sputtering target application. For fabricating the compacts, optimized sintering conditions such as the temperature, pulse ratio, pressure, and heating rate are controlled during the sintering process. The final sintering temperature and heating rate required to fabricate the target materials having high density are $700^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C/min$, respectively. The heating directly progresses up to $700^{\circ}C$ with a 3 min holding time. The sputtering target materials having high relative density of 100% are fabricated by employing a uniaxial pressure of 60 MPa and a sintering temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ without any significant change in the grain size. Also, the shrinkage displacement of the Cu-Mn target materials considerably increases with an increase in the pressure at sintering temperatures up to $700^{\circ}C$.
We report on the succesful fabrication of ZnO nanorod (NR)-based robust piezoelectric nanogenerators (PNGs) by using Cu foil substrate. The ZnO NRs are successfully grown on the Cu foil substrate by using all solution based method, a two step hydrothermal synthesis. The ZnO NRs are grown along c-axis well with an average diameter of 75~80 nm and length of $1{\sim}1.5{\mu}m$. The ZnO NRs showed abnormal photoluminescence specrta which is attributed from surface plasmon resonance assistant enhancement at specific wavelength. The PNGs on the SUS substrates show typical piezoelectric output performance which showing a frequency dependent voltage enhancement and polarity dependent charging and discharging characteristics. The output voltage range is 0.79~2.28 V with variation of input strain frequency of 1.8~3.9 Hz. The PNG on Cu foil shows reliable output performance even at the operation over 200 times without showing degradation of output voltage. The current output from the PNG is $0.7{\mu}A/cm^2$ which is a typical out-put range from the ZnO NR-based PNGs. These performance enhancement is attributed from the high flexibility, high electrical conductivity and excellent heat dissipation properties of the Cu foil as a substrate.

Treatment of a solution of $CuCl_2$ in dimethyl phosphate (DMP) with DMSO under nitrogen atmosphere afforded to a light blue fluorescence powder. Slow evaporation of $H_2O$-DMSO solution of this powder resulted in blue-sky crystals of a new polymeric Cu(II) complex, with a unit cell composed of $Cu_2(DMP)_4$(DMSO), (1). The crystal and molecular structure of the complex acquired crystallographically. Compound (1) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group $P2_1$/n with a = 12.8920(11) $\AA$, b = 13.1966(11) $\AA$, c = 14.7926(13) $\AA$, $\alpha$ = 90$^{\circ}$, $\beta$ = 98.943(2)$^{\circ}$, $\gamma$ = 90$^{\circ}$, V= 2486.1(4) ${\AA}^3$, and Z = 4. A square pyramidal environment for the metal center was established by coordination of oxygen atoms of four bridging DMP ligands in the basal positions and binding a tri-centered oxygen atom of DMSO in the apical disposition of Cu(II). The sixth position was also affected by a weak interaction with the sulfur atom of another DMSO. The phosphorous atom in the bridging DMP was arranged in a deformed tetrahedron with (gg) conformation for methyl esters with $C_{2v}$ symmetry.
This study investigates the influence of sintering temperature on the magnetic properties and frequency dispersion of the complex permeability of Ni-Zn-Cu ferrites used for magnetic shielding in near-field communication (NFC) systems. Sintered specimens of $(Ni_{0.7}Zn_{0.3})_{0.96}Cu_{0.04}Fe_2O_4$ are prepared by conventional ceramic processing. The complex permeability is measured by an RF impedance analyzer in the range of 1 MHz to 1.8 GHz. The real and imaginary parts of the complex permeability depend sensitively on the sintering temperature, which is closely related to the microstructure, including grain size and pore distribution. In particular, internal pores within grains produced by rapid grain growth decrease the permeability and increase the magnetic loss at the operating frequency of NFC (13.56 MHz). At the optimized sintering temperature ($1225-1250^{\circ}C$), the highest permeability and lowest magnetic loss can be obtained.
