The detailed crystal chemistry of ilmenite from the Hadong massif was studied by the EPMA, M ssbauer spectroscopy, and Rietveld structural refinement using X-ray powder diffraction data. The ilmenite-bearing anorthosite shows complicated mineral assemblage which consists of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, chlorite, apatite, allanite, and zircon. Anorthite is andesine in composition (Ab 28-57), and clinopyroxene drops in ferro-hypersthene (Fs 62-70). Ilmenite is trigonal symmetry with R space group, whose structure shows the alternation of Fe2+ (M1 site) octahedral layer and Ti (M2 site) layer along c axis. M ssbauer spectroscopy indicates that there are three doubles which assigned to couple of Fe2+($\delta$=0.812, 0.890mm/sec) and one Fe3+($\delta$=0.303mm/sec) in octahedral sites. Their Fe3+/$\Sigma$Fe is 0.065 and chemical formula is established as Fe2+0.94Fe3+0.07Ti0.97O3 using both EPMA and M ssbauer analysis. Rietveld structural refinement reveals that site occupancies of Fe in M1 and Ti in M2 are 91.2% and 89.4%, respectively. This implies that Ti and Fe2+ are alternatively occupy M1 and M2 sites. In addition, smaller M2 site is more preferable to Fe3+ occupancy over M1.
$CdIn_2S_4 and CdIn_2S_4 : Co^{2+}$ singlecrystals of thenormal spinel structure were grown by the C.T.R. method. The optical energy band structure of these compounds had a indirect band gap at the fundamental optical absorption band edge. The direct and the indirect energy gaps are found to be 2.325 and2.179eV for $Cdln_2S_4$ , and 2.303 and 2.169eV for $CdIn_2S_4 and CdIn_2S_4 : Co^{2+}$ at 5K, respectivly. The fundamental absorption band edge of these single crystals shift to a shorter wavelength region with decreasing temperature, and the temperature dependence of the optical energy gaps in these compounds satisfy Varshni equation. The Varshni constants$\alpha and \beta$ of the direct energy gap are given by $13.39{\times}10_{-4}eV/K$ and 509 K for $Cdln_2S_4$ and $29.73{\times}10_{-4} eV/K$ and 1398K for $CdIn_2S_4 and CdIn_2S_4 : Co^{2+}$. The Varshni constants ${\alpha}and {\beta}$ of the indirect energy gap are given by 9.68${\times}10^{-4}$ eV/K 308K for $Cdln_2S_4$ and $13.33{\times}10_{-4}eV/K$ and 440K for $CdIn_2S_4 : Co^{2+}$ respectivly. The impurity optical absorption peaks due to cobalt dopant are observed in $CdIn_2S_4 : Co^{2+}$ single crystal. These impurity optical absorption peaks can be attributed to the electronic transitions between the split energy levels of $Co_{2+}$ ions located at $T_d$ symmetry site of $Cdln_2S_4$ host lattece.
The structures of dehydrated $Ag_9Cs_3$-A treated with hydrogen gas at three different temperatures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Their structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at 23(1) $^{\circ}C$. All crystals were ion exchanged in flowing streams of aqueous $AgNO_3$/$CsNO_3$ with a mole ratio 1:3.0 to achieve the desired crystal composition. The structures treated with hydrogen at $23^{\circ}C(a=12.288(1)\;{\AA})\;and\;310^{\circ}C(a=12.291(2)\;{\AA})$ refined to the final error indices R1 = 0.091 and R2 = 0.079, and 0.065 and 0.073, respectively, using the 216 and 227 reflections, respectively, for which I >3${\sigma}$(I). In both of these structures, eight $Ag^+$ ions are found nearly at 6-ring centers, and three $Cs^+$ ions lie at the centers of the 8-rings at sites of $D_{4h}$ symmetry. One $Ag^{\circ}atom$, presumably formed from the reduction of a $Ag^+$ ion by an oxide ion of a residual water molecule or of the zeolite framework during the dehydration process, is retained within the zeolite, perhaps in a cluster. In these two structures hydrogen gas could not enter the zeolite to reduce the $Ag^+$ ions because the large $Cs^+$ ions blocked all the 8-windows. However, hydrogen could slowly diffuse into the zeolite and was able to reach and to reduce about half of the $Ag^+$ ions in the structure only at high temperature ($470^{\circ}C$). The silver atoms produced migrated out of the zeolite framework, and the protons generated led to substantial crystal damage.
The crystal structure of (1,3,6,9,11,14-hexaazatricycol[12.2.1.$1^{6,9}$]octadecane)copper(Ⅱ) perchlorate, Cu($C_{12}H_{26}N_6$)$(ClO_4)_2$, has been determined by the X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal data are as follows: Mr=516.9, triclinic, ${\alpha}=8.572\;(2)$, b=8.499 (3), c=15.204 (3) ${\AA}$, ${\alpha}=80.42\;(5),\;{\beta}=73.57\;(3),\;{\gamma}=69.82\;(4)^{\circ},\;V=994.2\;{\AA}^3,\;D_C=1.726\;gcm^{-3}$, space group $P{\tilde{1}},\;Z=2,\;{\mu}=21.27\;cm^{-1}&, F(000)=534 and T=297 K. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares methods to and R value of 0.081 for 1608 observed reflections measured with graphite-mono-chromated Mo Ka radiation on a diffractometer. There are two independent complexes in the unit cell. The two copper ions lie at the special positions (1/2, 0, 0) and (0, 1/2, 1/2)and each complex possesses crystallographic center of symmetry. Each Cu ion is coordinated to four nitrogen donors if the hexaazamacrotricyclic ligand and weakly interacts with two oxygen atoms of the perchlorate ions to form a tetragonally distorted octahedral coordination geometry. The Cu_N (sec), Cu_N(tert) and Cu_O coordination distances are 1.985 (14), 2.055 (14) and 2.757 (13) ${\AA}$ for the complex A and 1.996 (10), 2.040 (11) and 2.660 (13) ${\AA}$ for the complex B, respectively. The macrocycles in the two independent cations assume a similar conformation with the average r.m.s. deviation of 0.073 ${\AA}$. Two 1,3-diazacyclopentane ring moieties of the hexaazamacrotricyclic ligand are placed oppositely and almost perpendicularly to the square coordination plane of the ruffled 14-membered macrocycle. The secondary N atoms are hydrogen-bonded to the perchlorate O atoms with distances of 3.017 (23) and 3.025 (19) ${\AA}$ for the complexes A and B, respectively.
Using ab initio calculations, we reveal the origins of the extraordinarily increased electric conductivity of the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface. In both of the two (LaAlO3)m/ SrTiO3 heterojunction models (m=3, 5), the oxygen atoms in the cells were displaced toward the n-type interface and the Ti-centered octahedron structure was compressed along the [001] direction by the atomic reconstructions at the (LaAlO3)m/(SrTiO3)4 interfaces. As a result, the 3dxy orbital of the Ti atom was preferentially occupied due to the lowered energy state of the 3dxy orbital, which arises from the crystal field asymmetry. We reason that the extra electrons occupy the 3dxy orbital are accumulated at the interface by the displacement of the oxygen atoms. This accumulation contributes to the conductivity of the n-type interface. In addition, through a comparison of the atomic displacements and charge accumulation amounts between the two thickness models (m=3, 5), the thickness-dependency of the conductivity can be explained.
$CdGaInS_{4}:Er^{3+}$ single crystal crystallized in the rhombohedral. with lattice constants a = 3.899 $\AA$ and c = 36.970 $\AA$ for $CdGaInS_{4}:Er^{3+}$. The optical absorption measured near the fundamental band edge showed that the optical energy band structure of this compound had a direct and indirect band gaps. the direct and indirect energy gaps are found to be 2.665 and 2.479eV for $CdGaInS_{4}:Er^{3+}$ at 10 K. The photoluminescence spectra of $CdGaInS_{4}:Er^{3+}$ measured in the wavelength ranges of 500 nm~900 nm and 1500~1600 nm at 10 K. Eight sharp emission peaks due to $Er^{3+}$ ion are observed in the regions of 549.5~560.0nm. 661.3~676.5nm. 811.1~ 834.1 nm and 1528.2~1556.0 nm in $CdGaInS_{4}:Er^{3+}$ single crystal. These PL peaks were attributed to the radiative transitions between the split electron energy levels of the $Er^{3+}$ ions occupied at $C_{2v}$ symmetry of the $CdGaInS_4$ single crystals host lattice.
N$_{1}$-cyclohexyl-$N_{2}$-(o-chlorobenzal) imino thiourea, $C_{14}$H$_{18}$N$_{3}$SCI, crystallizes in $C_{2}$/c, with a=19.68, b=7.74, c=20.42$\AA$, ${\beta}$=$92.$8^{\circ}$ and eight formula units in the unit cell. The structure was solved by the study of Patterson sections, calculated from three-dimensional film data, and was refined by block-diagonal least-squares methods to R=0.16 based on 1288 independent intensity data. The rest atoms of N$_{1}$-cyclohexyl-$_{2}$-(o-chlorobenzal) imino thiourea molecule excluding cyclohexan ring and chlorine atoms approximately lie on a plane. A pair of molecules related by the symmetry centers are connected directly with the N-H.......S hydrogen bonds. Apart from the hydrogen bonding system the structure is held together by the van der Waals forces.
A novel slotted-core hexagonal photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for terahertz (THz) wave guiding is proposed in this paper. A trade-off managed between effective material loss (EML) and birefringence for efficient guidance of THz waves is illustrated in this article. The rectangular slot shaped air-holes break the symmetry of the porous-core which offers ultra-high birefringence of $8.8{\times}10^{-2}$. The proposed structure offers low bending loss of $1.07{\times}10^{-34}cm^{-1}$ and extremely low effective material loss (EML) of $0.035cm^{-1}$ at an operating frequency of 1.0 THz. In addition other guiding properties such as power fraction, dispersion and confinement loss are also discussed. The proposed THz waveguide can be effectively used for convenient transmission of THz waves.
