  • CdTe(331)/Si(211) and CdTe(400)/Si(100) thin films have been grown by MOCVD(metal organic chemical vapor deposition) system for large scale of IFPAs(IR focal plane arrays). We have investigated the effect of various growth parameters on the surface morphology and structural quality. Single crystalline CdTe(331) films were grown by two stage growth method - low temperature buffer layer step and high temperature growth step. In other case, single crystal of CdTe(400) films were grown on a few atomic layer thickness of GaAs which is grown on Si(100) substrate by molecular beam epitaxy. The crystalline quality of the films was analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The surface morphology and crystal structure of CdTe films were characterized by optical microscope.

  • The manufacture of organic electronic circuits requires effective heterogeneous integration of different nanoscale organic materials with uniform morphology and crystallinity in a desired arrangement on a substrate. Herein, we present a new direct printing method, which enables monolithic integration of crystalline nanowire arrays with a diverse range of organic materials. In this method, we use a nanoscale patterned soft mold, which contains an assembly of simple nanoline patterns but, in combination with droplet of various organic inks, can produce a large-scale integration of various nanopatterns with multiple kinds of organic materials. The morphology of organic nanowires can controlled by nanoconfinement in nanoline of mold. And mutual alignment of nanopatterns can be controlled by adjusting the ink droplet size, number of droplets, ink deposition locations.

  • Recently, requirement for the ultra thin copper foil increases with smaller and miniaturized electronic components. In this study, we evaluated the surface morphology, crystal phase ana surface roughness of the copper film electrodeposited by pulse method without using additives. Homogeneous and dense copper crystals were formed on the titanium substrate, and the optimum condition was 25% duty cycle. Moreover, the surface roughness(Ra), $0.295{\mu}m$, is the smallest value in this condition. It is thought that this copper foil is good for electromigration inhibition due to the preferential crystal growth of Cu (111)

  • Crystal structure and surface morphology of Se thin film fabricated by EBE method had been studied. Se thin film was deposited with amorphous structure until substrate temperature of l00$^{\circ}C$. But Se thin film was grown with monoclinic structure at substrate temperature af over 150$^{\circ}C$, and its lattice constant of a, b and c was 12.76${\AA}$, 9.15${\AA}$ and 10.41${\AA}$ respectively. Also, after heat-treatment at 150。 for 15 min with substrate temperature of l00。, amorphous Se was proved to be hexagonal structure, and its lattice constant of a and c was 4.27${\AA}$ and 4.83${\AA}$ respectively.

  • This paper describes a selective synthetic method of fabricating Ag nanowires by using a modified polyol process. To synthesize the Ag nanowire, an ethylene glycolic solution of silver nitrate and an ethylene glycolic solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone solution containing a small amount of organic oxidant, 1,4-benzoquinone, were slowly added to a hot ethylene glycol medium at $160^{\circ}C$ for 8 min using a syringe pump. The reaction mixtures were heated for an additional 45 min and cooled to room temperature. Finally, the silver nanomaterials were isolated from the mixture by centrifugation. The crystal structure of the nanomaterials was investigated by powder X-ray diffraction analyses, and their morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. A small amount of organic oxidant, 1,4-benzoquinone, played a significant role in controlling the morphology during crystal growth. Consequently, Ag nanowires rather than Ag nanoparticles were selectively obtained.

  • Hematite particles were obtained by hydrothermal reaction of ferric hydroxide in the presence of small amount of citric acid which is acted as crystal growth controller. The effects of hydrothermal reaction condition son the morphology and crystal structure of powder were investigated using X-ray, TEM and FT-IR. Ellipsoidal or rectangular hematite particles were formed in the range of pH 10.75~11.75 as initial basicity of reactants and 3$\times$10-5 ~9$\times$10-5 mol as citric acid content. Crystallization of hematite was inhibited in the range of pH9. 0~10.5 and above citric acid content of $1.5\times$10-4 mol. Hematite particle length and aspect ratio were decreased gradually with increasing of citric acid content. Hematite particles formed at 14$0^{\circ}C$ exhibited particle properties with the length of 0.7 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and aspect ratio of 8. Hematite particles having a good acicular-type were not obtained above 22$0^{\circ}C$.

  • Single phase niobium nitride (NbN) coatings were deposited using asymmetric bipolar pulsed dc sputtering by varying pulse frequency and duty cycle of pulsed plasmas. Crystal structure, microstructure, morphology and mechanical properties were examined using XRD, FE-SEM, AFM and nanoindentation. Upon increasing pulse frequencies and decreasing duty cycles, the coating morphology was changed from a pyramidal-shaped columnar structure to a round-shaped dense structure with finer grains. Asymmetric bipolar pulsed dc sputtered NbN coatings deposited at pulse frequency of 25 kHz is characterized by higher hardness up to 17.4 GPa, elastic modulus up to 193.9 GPa, residual compressive stress and a smaller grain size down to 27.5 nm compared with dc sputtered NbN coatings at pulse frequency of 0 kHz. The results suggest that the asymmetric bipolar pulsed dc sputtering technique is very beneficial to reactive deposition of transition-metal nitrides such as NbN coatings.

  • In this study, the effects of thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors on hydrate formation and dissociation behaviors were identified. The nucleation and growth of CP hydrate in the presence of methanol were monitored by optical microscope. Cyclopentane was used to demonstrate the oil phase in the pipeline in this study. Hydrate morphology, required time for hydrate formation, hydrate dissociation temperature were also identified by experiments. With the addition of methanol in water solution, the hydrate nucleation as well as hydrate growth were delayed. Moreover, hydrate morphology was also varied with the addition of methanol. Hydrate formation and dissociation temperature also decrease as the concentration of methanol increases.

  • Morphology of carbonate crystals grown on the surface of artificial cell membranes was controlled by changing the interfacial chemistry. For octadecyltriethoxysilane (OTE) films with terminal methyl groups interacting little with an aqueous calcium carbonate solution calcite (104) crystals were formed. Polymerized pentacosadiynoic acid (PDA) films with terminal carboxylic acid groups induced deposition of calcite (012) crystals aligned along with each other within a polymer domain. On the other hand, stearyl alcohol (StOH) films with terminal hydroxyl groups induced deposition of aragonite crystals. When PDA was mixed with StOH, the 8:1 PDA:StOH (molar ratio) film produced dominating calcite (012) crystals without any crystal alignment, and the 4:1 mixture film produced minor calcite (012) crystals and major aragonite crystals. For the 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 mixture films, aragonite crystals were dominating. Hence, it is found that the chemical composition at the interface plays a very important role in controlling the morphology of deposited carbonate crystals.

  • Polycrystalline CdS thin films were deposited by using EBE method and its crystal structure, surface morphology, electrical and optical properties as a function of annealing temperature were investigated. It was found that optimum growth conditions were substrate temperature annealing temperature 300[.deg. C]. The films were hexagonal structure preferred(002) plane and maximum grain size was 421[.angs.]. As the results, resistivity and optical transmittance of CdS thin films were $8.3{\times}{10^3}$[.ohm.cm] and 89[%] respectively.
