  • As the amount of flash memory being used in embedded device is increased and embedded devices become more important in many computing environments, embedded file system security becomes more important issue. Moreover embedded devices can be easily stolen or lost because of it's high portability. If the lost embedded device has very important information, there's no means to protect it except data encryption. For improving embedded devices' security this paper propose design and implementation of flash cryptographic file system. For this purpose YAFFS is used. By the modified YAFFS cryptographic file system, the security of embedded devices can be improved.

  • Since modem embedded systems need to access, manipulate or store sensitive information, it requires being equipped with cryptographic file systems. However, cryptographic file systems result in poor performance so that they have not been widely adapted to embedded systems. Most cryptographic file systems degrade the performance unnecessarily because of system architecture. This paper proposes ISEA (Indexed and Separated Encryption Approach) that supports for encryption/decryption in system architecture and removes redundant performance loss. ISEA carries out encryption and decryption at different layers according to page cache layer. Encryption is carried out at lower layer than page cache layer while decryption at upper layer. ISEA stores the decrypted data in page cache so that it can be reused in followed I/O request without decryption. ISEA provides page-indexing which divides page cache into cipher blocks and manages it by a block. It decrypts pages partially so that it can eliminate unnecessary decryption. In synthesized experiment of read/write with various cache hit rates, it gives results suggesting that ISEA has improved the performance of encryption file system efficiently.

  • The encryption of a file on a PC before saving can maintain security of the file. However, if the key for the encrypted file is lost or damaged, the encrypted file can not be decrypted, resulting in serious economical loss to the user or the user group. In order to minimize the economical loss a secure and reliable key recovery technology is required. Presented in this paper is the development and evaluation of PKRS (PC based Key Recovery System) which supports encryption and decryption of file and recovery of the encrypted file in emergency. The encapsulating method, which attaches key recovery information to encrypted file, is applied to the PKRS. In addition, the PKRS is developed and evaluated according to the requirements of Requirements for Key Recovery Products proposed by NIST and requirements of Common Criteria 2.0 to prove the safety and reliability of the information security system. This system is applicable to a PC and can be further extended to internet or intranet environment information system where in encryption and recovery of file is possible.

  • This study is a file management security system that encrypts and decrypts computer and cloud data by using Bluetooth based cryptographic module. It is a necessary solution in terms of abuse of personal information and protection of social and national information. We developed H/W and S/W for SFMS(: Safe File Management Security) related Bluetooth module in cloud environment and implemented firmware development, encryption key generation and issuance, client program for system mobile and key management system. In the terminal internal encryption and decryption, SFMS was developed to ensure high security that the hacking itself is not possible because key values exist separately for each file.

  • In today's mobile computing environment, there are many threats, such as device loss or theft, malware, to the sensitive information stored on end user device. To prevent disclosure of information, encryption and authentication method are properly adjusted to the device. In cryptographic file systems, CBC mode of operation has been commonly used. It requires an IV need not be secret, but must be unpredictable and protect integrity of the IV. In this paper, we propose file system-level encryption mechanism with HSM that satisfy the requirement of the IV and improve the performance. Moreover, Design and experimental results prove the efficiency of our proposed method.

  • Along with the increase of the importance of information used in practice, adversaries tried to take valuable information in diverse ways. The simple and fundamental solution is to encrypt the whole data. Since the cost of encryption is increasing along with the size of data, the cost for securing the data is a burden to a system where the size of the data is not small. For the reason, in some applications where huge data are used for service, service providers do not use any encryption scheme for higher security, which could be a source of trouble. In this work, we introduce a new type of data securing technique named Trapdoor Digital Shredder(TDS) which disintegrates a data to multiple pieces to make it hard to re-construct the original data except the owner of the file who holds some secret keys. The main contribution of the technique is to increase the difficulty in obtaining private information even if an adversary obtains some shredded pieces. To prove the security of our scheme, we first introduce a new security model so called IND-CDA to examine the indistinguishability of shredded pieces. Then, we show that our scheme is secure under IND-CDA model, which implies that an adversary cannot distinguish a subset of shreds of a file from a set of random shreds.

  • Recently, ransomware has earned itself an infamous reputation as a force to reckon with in the cybercrime landscape. However, cybercriminals are adopting other unconventional means to seamlessly attain proceeds of cybercrime with little effort. Cybercriminals are now acquiring cryptocurrencies directly from benign Internet users without the need to extort a ransom from them, as is the case with ransomware. This paper investigates advances in the cryptovirology landscape by examining the state-of-the-art cryptoviral attacks. In our approach, we perform digital autopsy on the malware's source code and execute the different malware variants in a contained sandbox to deduce static and dynamic properties respectively. We examine three cryptoviral attack structures: browser-based crypto mining, memory resident crypto mining and cryptoviral extortion. These attack structures leave a trail of digital forensics evidence when the malware interacts with the file system and generates noise in form of network traffic when communicating with the C2 servers and crypto mining pools. The digital forensics evidence, which essentially are IOCs include network artifacts such as C2 server domains, IPs and cryptographic hash values of the downloaded files apart from the malware hash values. Such evidence can be used as seed into intrusion detection systems for mitigation purposes.

  • In a situation where drone-related crimes continue to rise, research in drone forensics becomes crucial for preventing and responding to incidents involving drones. Conducting forensic analysis on flight record files stored internally is essential for investigating illegal activities. However, analyzing flight record files generated through the exclusive DUML protocol requires a deep understanding of the protocol's structure and characteristics. Additionally, a forensic analysis tool capable of handling cryptographic payloads and analyzing various drone models is imperative. Therefore, this study presents the methods and characteristics of flight record files generated by drones. It also explains the structure of the flight record file and the features of the DUML packet. Ultimately, we conduct forensic analysis based on the presented structure of the DUML packet and propose an extension forensic analysis system that operates more universally than existing tools, performing expanded syntactic analysis.
