The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of cryogenic intake air temperature on the injected fuel droplet behavior in a compression ignition engine under the different start of energizing timing. To achieve this, the intake air temperatures were changed from -18℃ to 18℃ in steps of 9℃, and the result of fuel evaporation rate, Sauter mean diameter, and equivalence ratio distributions were compared. When the intake air temperature decreased in steps of 9℃, less fuel was evaporated by about 3.33% because the cylinder temperature was decreased. In addition, the evaporated fuel amount was increased with retarding the start of energizing timing because the cylinder temperature raised. However, the difference was decreased according to the retarded start of energizing timing because the cylinder pressure was also increased at the start of fuel injection. The equivalence ratio was reduced by 5.94% with decreasing the intake air temperature. In addition, the ignition delay was expected to longer because of the deteriorated evaporation performance and the reduced cylinder pressure by the low intake air temperature.
Important key technologies of high-$T_c$ superconducting (HTS) transformer may include the HTS wire technology, bushing technology, cooling technology, AC loss, reduction technology, large current technology, and cryogenic temperature insulation technology. From among others, the cryogenic temperature insulation technology may be specifically a core technology for ensuring reliability for the smaller size, stability, economic efficiency, and power supply of a transformer. Therefore, the electric insulation technology of a superconducting transformer should be prerequisite. Such relevant studies are ongoing, but still, they are very insufficient for establishing the cryogenic insulation technology as of yet. Therefore, this paper simulated HTS transformer applied with continuous transposed conductor (CTC), which has been studied as a way of reducing AC loss. Also, the paper analyzed the insulation configuration of HTS transformer and bushing, and, accordingly, reviewed various characteristics of insulation breakdown out of liquid nitrogen. Thus, the paper constituted insulation database, and it is going to design the insulation of a transmission class HTS transformer and bushing.

A deformation behavior of commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) is highly dependent on material and processing parameters, such as deformation temperature, deformation direction, and strain rate. This study aims to predict the multivariable and nonlinear tensile behavior of CP-Ti using machine learning based on three algorithms: artificial neural network (ANN), light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), and long short-term memory (LSTM). The predictivity for tensile behaviors at the cryogenic temperature was lower than those in the room temperature due to the larger data scattering in the train dataset used in the machine learning. Although LGBM showed the lowest value of root mean squared error, it was not the best strategy owing to the overfitting and step-function morphology different from the actual data. LSTM performed the best as it effectively learned the continuous characteristics of a flow curve as well as it spent the reduced time for machine learning, even without sufficient database and hyperparameter tuning.

Hydrogen is an eco-friendly energy source and is being actively researched in various fields around the world, including mobility and aerospace. In order to effectively utilize hydrogen energy, it should be used in a liquid state with high energy storage density, but when hydrogen is stored in a liquid state, BOG (boil-off gas) is generated due to the temperature difference with the atmosphere. This should be re-condensed when considering storage efficiency and economy. In particular, large-capacity liquid hydrogen storage tank is required a gaseous helium circulation cooling system that cools by circulating cryogenic refrigerant due to the increase in heat intrusion from external air as the heat transfer area increases and the wide distribution of the gas layer inside the tank. In order to effectively apply the system, thermo-hydraulic analysis through process analysis is required. In this study, the condenser design and system characteristics of a gaseous helium circulation cooling system for BOG recondensation of a liquefied hydrogen storage tank were compared.

In this study, CT specimens were prepared from ASTH A5l6 steel which was used for pressure vessel plates for moderate and lower temperature service. And we got the fellowing characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room and low temperature at $25^{\circ}C$ , $-30^{\circ}C$, $-60^{\circ}C$, $-80^{\circ}C$, $-100^{\circ}C$ and $-120^{\circ}C$ and in the range of stress ratio of 0.1, 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. At the constant stress ratio, the Threshold stress intensity factor range ΔAKth in the early stage of fatigue crack growth (Region I) and stress intensity factor range $\DeltaK$ in the stable of fatigue crack growth (Region II) was increased in proportion to descend temperature. It assumed that the fatigue resistance characteristics and fracture strength at low temperature is considerable higher than that of room temperature in the early stage and stable of fatigue crack growth region. The straight line slope relation of logarithm da/dN-$\Delta$K in Region II that is, the fatigue clack growth exponent m increased with descending temperature at the constant stress ratio. It assumed that the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN is rapid in proportion to descend temperature in Region II and the cryogenic-brittleness greatly affect a material with decreasing temperature.

This paper deals with the flow characteristics of a reed valve analyzed using computational dynamics(CFD) for optimal design. The seat sizes of the valve are modeled asØ6[mm] and Ø8[mm] to compare the flow characteristics. The inlet boundary condition is entered at 10[kPa], 15[kPa], 20[kPa], and 30[kPa] and the outlet boundary condition is set to the atmospheric pressure. The flow coefficient(C) and pressure loss coefficient(K) are calculated from the results of flow analysis. From the analysis results, it was confirmed that the flow coefficient of a reed valve having a seat size of Ø6[mm] is greater than that having a seat size of Ø8[mm], and the coefficient of pressure loss of a valve with a seat size of Ø6[mm] is lower than the Ø8[mm] size valve.
A stable reference voltage generator is necessary to the infrared image signal readout circuit(ROIC) to improve noise characteristics in comparison with signals originated from infrared devices, that is, to gain good images. In this study, bandgap reference circuit operating at cryogenic temperature of 77K for Infrared image ROIC(readout integrated circuit) was propose. Most of bandgap reference circuits which are presented so far operate at room temperature, and they are not suitable for infrared image ROIC operating at liquid nitrogen temperature, 77K. To design bandgap reference circuit operating at cryogenic temperature, the parameter characteristics of used devices as temperature change are seen, and then bandgap reference circuit is proposed with considering such characteristics. It demonstrates practical use possibility through taking measurements and estimations.

In the present study, silica-aerogel-polyurethane foams were synthesized to improve the mechanical characteristics and insulation performance of the polyurethane foam applied to a liquefied natural gas carrier at a cryogenic temperature of $-163^{\circ}C$. A silica-aerogel-polyurethane foam bulk was prepared using a homogenizer by varying the weight ratio of the silica aerogel (0, 1, 3, and 5 wt%), while maintaining the contents of the polyol, isocyanate, and blowing agent constant. Compression tests were performed at room and cryogenic temperatures to compare the mechanical properties of the silica-aerogel polyurethane foams. The internal temperature of the universal testing machine was maintained through the cryogenic chamber. The thermal conductivity of the silica-aerogel-polyurethane foam was measured using a heat flow meter to confirm the insulation performance. In addition, the effect of the silica aerogels on the cells of the polyurethane foam was investigated using FE-SEM and FTIR. From the experimental results, the 1 wt% silica aerogel polyurethane foam showed outstanding mechanical and thermal performances.
Closed-loop J-T (Joule-Thomson) refrigeration cycle is advantageous compared to common open loop $N_2$ decompression system in terms of nitrogen consumption. In this study, two closed-loop pure $N_2$ J-T refrigeration systems with sub-atmospheric device for cooling High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) power cable are investigated. J-T cooling systems include 2-stage compressor, 2-stage precooling cycle, J-T valve and a cold compressor or an auxiliary vacuum pump at the room temperature. The cold compressor and the vacuum pump are installed after the J-T valve to create sub-atmospheric condition. The temperature of 67 K is possible by lowering the pressure up to 24 kPa at the cold part. The optimized hydrocarbon mixed refrigerant (MR) J-T system is applied for precooling stage. The cold head of precooling MR J-T have the temperature from 120 K to 150 K. The various characteristics of cold compressor are invstigated and applied to design parameter of the cold compressor. The Carnot efficiency of cold compressor system is calculated as 16.7% and that of vacuum pump system as 16.4%. The efficiency difference between the cold compressor system and the vacuum pump system is due to difference of enthalpy change at cryogenic temperature, enthalpy change at room temperature and different work load at the pre-cooling cycle. The efficiency of neon-nitrogen MR J-T system is also presented for comparison with the sub-atmospheric devices. These systems have several pros and cons in comparison to typical MR J-T systems such as vacuum line maintainability, system's COP and etc. In this paper, the detailed design of the subcooled $N_2$ J-T systems are examined and some practical issues of the sub-atmospheric devices are discussed.
