  • Despite the recent growth of interest in molten salt reactor technology and the crucial role which heat transfer plays in the design of power reactors, specific studies on the design of heat exchangers for the Molten Salt Fast Reactor have not yet been performed. In this work we deliver a preliminary but quantitative analysis of the intermediate heat exchangers, based on reference design data from the SAMOFAR H2020-Euratom project. Two different promising reference technologies are selected for study thanks to their compactness features, the Printed Circuit and the Helical Coil heat exchangers. We present preliminary design results for each technology, based on simplified design tools. Results highlight the limiting effects of the compactness constraints imposed on the fuel salt inventory and the allowed size. Large pressure drops on both flow sides are to be expected, with negative consequences on pumping power and natural circulation capabilities. The small size required for the flow channels also represents possible fabrication issues and safety concerns regarding channel blockage.

  • Autonomous berthing is a crucial technology for autonomous ships, requiring optimal trajectory planning to prevent collisions and minimize time and control efforts. This paper presents a two-phase, two-point boundary value problem (TPBVP) strategy for creating an optimal berthing trajectory for a twin-propeller, twin-rudder ship with autonomous berthing capabilities. The process is divided into two phases: the approach and the terminal. Tunnel thruster use is limited during the approach but fully employed during the terminal phase. This strategy permits concurrent optimization of the total trajectory duration, individual phase trajectories, and phase transition time. The efficacy of the proposed method is validated through two simulations. The first explores a scenario with phase transition, and the second generates a trajectory relying solely on the approach phase. The results affirm our algorithm's effectiveness in deciding transition necessity, identifying optimal transition timing, and optimizing the trajectory accordingly. The proposed two-phase TPBVP approach holds significant implications for advancements in autonomous ship navigation, enhancing safety and efficiency in berthing operations.

  • Kidney disease affects a significant portion of the global population, yet effective therapies are lacking despite advancements in identifying genetic causes. This limitation can be attributed to the absence of adequate in vitro models that accurately mimic human kidney disease, hindering targeted therapeutic development. However, the emergence of human induced pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) and the development of organoids using them have opened up a way to model kidney development and disease in humans, as well as validate the effects of new drugs. To fully leverage their capabilities in these fields, it is crucial for kidney organoids to closely resemble the structure and functionality of adult human kidneys. In this review, we aim to discuss the potential of using human PSCs or adult kidney stem cell-derived kidney organoids to model genetic kidney disease and renal cancer.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the direction and strategy of education for sex role concepts of children on the basis of factor analysis of the present situation in sex role concepts and their formation. Although some maintain that sex role concept of our society has been changing slowly, the traditional sex role concept still dominates and is potentially immanent. the analysis of present condition of our society indicates that the formal as well as informal education are facing with various crucial problems in providing the direction of behavior demanded for carrying out the role. The close analysis of the three theories, psychoanalytic theory , social learning theory, cognitive development theory, lends a support to the laim of the study that cognitive development theory provide an integrated frame of reference for us to see the sex role education analytically Furthermore, the factors which are found to have influences on the formation of sex role have been analyzed in three areas: Family, School and society. 1)The factors in family such as parental behavior of upbringing and their concepts of sex role have a direct relationship with the nature of sex tole concept of children. Therefore, the first step to make children to habe a new type of sex-role conception appropriate for modern societies is to change that of parental conception and attitudes. 2)the quantitative as well as the qualitative aspects of school education showed no exceptional trend from the dominant conception of the society, although school are expected to lead the society as formal education institution rather than just reflect the society. The educational activities and contents such as the conceived goal of education for eoch sex, textbook constitation, teaching behavior and sex-role concepts of teacher are found to be still dominated by the traditional sex-role assumption. 3) The social factors that have direct relationship with children's sex-role formation are social and cultural, which include social milieu, condition of employment, family structure and mass-media. Since family and school do not educate the young in a social vacuum. their educational function of sex-role formation are doomed to be limited and determined by these social factors. Unfortunately, the analysis of present conditions showed the dominance of traditional types of sex-role concepts in all these social factors. The education of sex-role concept for children should be treated as one of the most crucial value problems related with many other important problems, such as direction and patterns of behaviors of each sex, the degree of self-development and capabilities, and consequently human right, equality, humanization and the quality of happiness. Neverthless, the analysis of researches on sex-role education which have been surveyed in this study lead to a conclusion that concerted effort to change the education, formal as well as informal should be provided in every aspect of social life. If the sex role education of the past has aimed at the "feminization"of girls which indoctrinate girls into a limited and fixed role of house wives, the new education in the future should be directed foward "humanization" of both sexes which opens the diversity of roles for both boys and girl on equal levels and provide future possibilities in accordance to their individual capabilities and interests.

  • Tempered electronic contents have multiplied in last few years, thanks to the emergence of sophisticated artificial intelligence(AI) algorithms. Deepfakes (fake footage, photos, speech, and videos) can be a frightening and destructive phenomenon that has the capacity to distort the facts and hamper reputation by presenting a fake reality. Evidence of ownership or authentication of digital material is crucial for combating the fabricated content influx we are facing today. Current solutions lack the capacity to track digital media's history and provenance. Due to the rise of misrepresentation created by technologies like deepfake, detection algorithms are required to verify the integrity of digital content. Many real-world scenarios have been claimed to benefit from blockchain's authentication capabilities. Despite the scattered efforts surrounding such remedies, relatively little research has been undertaken to discover where blockchain technology can be used to tackle the deepfake problem. Latest blockchain based innovations such as Smart Contract, Hyperledger fabric can play a vital role against the manipulation of digital content. The goal of this paper is to summarize and discuss the ongoing researches related to blockchain's capabilities to protect digital content authentication. We have also suggested a blockchain (smart contract) dependent framework that can keep the data integrity of original content and thus prevent deepfake. This study also aims at discussing how blockchain technology can be used more effectively in deepfake prevention as well as highlight the current state of deepfake video detection research, including the generating process, various detection algorithms, and existing benchmarks.

  • In recent times, the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as heavy rains and typhoons, have been increasing due to the impacts of climate change. This has led to a rise in social and economic damages. Rural areas, in particular, possess limited disaster response capabilities due to their underdeveloped infrastructure and are highly vulnerable to flooding. Therefore, it is crucial to establish preventative and responsive measures. In this study, an Inventory-Based Flood Loss Estimation (IB-FLE) method utilizing high-resolution spatial information was developed for estimating flood-related losses in rural areas. Additionally, the developed approach was applied to a study area and compared with the Multidimensional Flood Damage Analysis (MD-FDA) method. Compared to the MD-FDA, the IB-FLE enables faster and more accurate estimation of flood damages and allows for the assessment of individual building and agricultural land losses using up-to-date information. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the rational allocation of budgets for rural flood damage prevention and recovery, as well as enhancing disaster response capabilities.
