Impact of Education on Multidimensional Poverty Reduction at the Post-Poverty Alleviation Era in Xinjiang

  • The multidimensional poverty index is an indicator system established for defining and evaluating poverty, to understand poverty in dimensions beyond just monetary scarcity. Based on income, education, health, living standards, and social dimensions, this article measures and analyzes the level of multidimensional poverty in Xinjiang using the AlkireFoster method, with cross-sectional data obtained from a 2022 survey. Probit model is constructed for regression analysis, further considering the impact of education on enhancing feasible capabilities and alleviating multidimensional poverty at the post-poverty alleviation era. The data shows that many people still face significant challenges from the perspective of multidimensional poverty; the decomposition results of each dimension show that education contributes more to the multidimensional poverty; the regression analysis results show that the higher the education level, the lower the multidimensional poverty; heterogeneity analysis revealed that the inhibitory effect of education on multidimensional poverty is greater for females than males, and the poverty reduction effect of education mainly concentrates on middle-aged and older individuals. This article is meaningful for exploring strategies to alleviate multidimensional poverty in ethnic minority regions in frontier areas in the new era, accelerating regional economic development, and achieving shared prosperity.

Numerical simulation on the square column's strengthening characteristics utilizing the SCC jacketing

  • This research aims to simulate and investigate the efficiency of strengthening damaged concrete columns using concrete jacketing.The numerical program included unjacketed reference column made of ordinary RC concrete had a cross-sectional dimension of (100×100) mm and 560 mm long reinforced concrete. These cores were damaged by loading them with approximately 60% of their actual ultimate load capacities as a service load. Then, column specimens were strengthened by applying two types of self-compacting concrete SCC jacketing, which were 25 and 30 mm thick, on all four sides. Exposed to external loads at different directions vertically and horizontally simulate to the seismic load. The 3D Finite Element (FE) simulation is used to predict of three structural criteria that were selected and evaluated (deflection, stress, cracks). The results show that the failure of the strengthening columns is interesting and corresponds to the characteristics of the cracks formed in the concrete section,which was documented numerically using 3D Finite Element (FE). A significant improvement of deflection has been noted at the values at the top SECTION of columns compared to the reference sample reaching an average of up to 36.6% when using a 25 mm thick SCC-3500 jacket.

Pipe Stiffness Prediction of GRP Flexible Pipe (GRP 연성관의 관강성 예측)

  • In this paper, we present the load-deflection behavior of GRP pipes. GRP buried pipes are widely used in construction in the advantage of their superior mechanical and physical characteristics such as high chemical resistance, high corrosion resistance, right weight, smooth surface of the pipe, and cost effectiveness from soil-structure interaction. To design flexible pipes to be buried underground, it should be based on the ASTM D2412(2010). When applying ASTM D 2412(2010) to the design, pipe stiffness(PS) must be predetermined by the parallel-plate test which requires tedious and laborious working process. To overcome such problems, the finite element simulations for finding the load-deflection behavior of the GRP flexible pipes is installed at UTM testing machine. In the finite element simulations, basic data, such as the modulus of elasticity of the material and cross-sectional dimension, is used. From the investigation, we found that the difference between experimental result and analytical prediction is less than 15% when the pipe deflected 3% and 5% of its vertical diameter although the pipe material is not uniform across the cross-section.

Association between Insulin Resistance and Depression in the General Korean Population : Cross Sectional Findings from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (한국 성인에서 인슐린 저항성과 우울증의 연관성)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the insulin resistance and depressive mood, suicidal ideation, psychological stress, and quality of life in general Korean population. Methods : We selected 3,613 subjects from the third year's data of 6th Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey. Insulin resistance was evaluated with Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance. Questionnaires on depressive mood, suicidal ideation and psychological stress were conducted. The quality of life was assessed with the EuroQol-5 dimension index. We used correlation and regression analysis for analysis. Results : The risk of depressive mood and suicidal ideation was significantly higher in the insulin resistance group than in the control group. The risk of psychological stress was significantly higher in the male group with insulin resistance. The EuroQol-5 dimension index showed a negative correlation with insulin resistance. After adjusting for age, sex and body mass index, increased risk of suicidal ideation was identified only. Conclusions : We confirmed that insulin resistance is associated to mental health problems related with depression in Korean adults.

Health-related Quality of Life of Patients With Diabetes Mellitus Measured With the Bahasa Indonesia Version of EQ-5D in Primary Care Settings in Indonesia

  • Objectives: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious public health issue that places a heavy financial, social, and health-related burden on individuals, families, and healthcare systems. Self-reported health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is extensively used for monitoring the general population's health conditions and measuring the effectiveness of interventions. Therefore, this study investigated HRQoL and associated factors among patients with type 2 DM at a primary healthcare center in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Klaten District, Central Java, Indonesia, from May 2019 to July 2019. In total, 260 patients with DM registered with National Health Insurance were interviewed. HRQoL was measured with the EuroQol Group's validated Bahasa Indonesia version of the EuroQoL 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) with the Indonesian value set. Multivariate regression models were used to identify factors influencing HRQoL. Results: Data from 24 patients were excluded due to incomplete information. Most participants were men (60.6%), were aged above 50 years (91.5%), had less than a senior high school education (75.0%), and were unemployed (85.6%). The most frequent health problems were reported for the pain/discomfort dimension (64.0%) followed by anxiety (28.4%), mobility (17.8%), usual activities (10.6%), and self-care (6.8%). The average EuroQoL 5-Dimension (EQ-5D) index score was 0.86 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.83 to 0.88). In the multivariate ordinal regression model, a higher education level (coefficient, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.02 to 0.14) was a significant predictor of the EQ-5D-5L utility score. Conclusions: Patients with diabetes had poorer EQ-5D-5L utility values than the general population. DM patients experienced pain/discomfort and anxiety. There was a substantial positive relationship between education level and HRQoL.

Comparing the Preference for Terminal Care in Nurses and Patients (간호사와 입원 환자가 지각한 임종기 치료선호도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in preference for terminal care between hospitalized patients and nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used in 79 patients and 107 nurses. The data were collected from August to October 2011, using the Preference for Care near the End of life Scale - Korean Version (PCEOL-K) with 5-point scale of 26 items. The reliability of the tool was Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.74$. Results: The mean score (SD) of PCEOL-K's sub-dimensions in nurses' priority was: (a) pain $3.70{\pm}0.63$, (b) spirituality $3.63{\pm}0.61$, (c) family $3.40{\pm}0.70$, (d) autonomous decision making $2.30{\pm}0.66$, and (e) decision making by healthcare professionals $2.14{\pm}0.64$. In patients' priority, the $M{\pm}SD$ score of each sub-dimension was: (a) pain $3.86{\pm}0.65$, (b) family $3.83{\pm}0.57$, (c) decision making by healthcare professionals $3.37{\pm}0.85$, (d) spirituality $3.01{\pm}0.80$, and (e) autonomous decision making $2.43{\pm}0.63$. Results indicated significant differences between nurses and patients regarding decision making by healthcare professionals (t=-11.28, p<.001), family (t=-4.66, p<.001), and spirituality (t=5.71, p<.001). Conclusion: The PCEOL-K of patients was higher than nurses'. A terminal care program for hospitalized patients at the end of life should be planned according to the results of PCEOL-K in nurses and patients.

Cone-beam computed tomography of mandibular foramen and lingula for mandibular anesthesia

  • Purpose: The positions of the mandibular foramen (MnF) and the lingula affect the success rate of inferior alveolar nerve block. The objective of this study was to investigate aspects of the MnF and the lingula relevant for mandibular block anesthesia using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Fifty CBCT scans were collected from a picture archiving and communications system. All scans were taken using an Alphard Vega 3030 (Asahi Roentgen Co. Ltd., Kyoto, Japan). Fifty-eight MnFs of 30 subjects were included in the study. The position of the MnF, the size of the MnF, the position of the lingula, the size of the lingula, and the shape of the lingula were measured and recorded. All data were statistically analyzed at a significance level of P<0.05. Results: The position of MnF was 0.1 mm and 0.8 mm below the occlusal plane in males and females, respectively. The horizontal position of the MnF was slightly anterior to the center of the ramus in males and in the center in females (P<0.05). The vertical position of the MnF was lower in females than in males(P<0.05). The MnF was an oval shape with a longer anteroposterior dimension. The height of the lingula was 9.3 mm in males and 8.2 mm in females. The nodular type was the most common shape of the lingula, followed by the triangular, truncated, and assimilated types. Conclusion: CBCT provided useful information about the MnF and lingula. This information could improve the success rate of mandibular blocks.

Structural Optimization of Cantilever Beam in Conjunction with Dynamic Analysis

  • Knowledge of dynamic characteristics of structural elements often can make difference between success and failure in the design of structure due to resonance effect. In this paper an analytical model of a cantilever beam having midpoint load is considered for structural optimization. This involves creating the geometry which allows parametric study of all design variables. For that purpose optimization of cantilever beam is elaborated in order to find the optimum geometry which minimizes its volume eventually for minimum weight using ANSYS. But such geometry could be obtained by different combinations of width and height, so that it may have the same cross sectional area yet different dynamic behavior. So for optimum safe design, besides minimum volume it should have minimum vibration as well. In order to predict vibration different dynamic analyses are performed simultaneously to solve the eigenvalues problem assuming no damping initially through MATLAB simulations using state space form for modal analysis, which identifies the resonant frequencies and mode shapes belonging to the lowest three modes of vibration. And next by introducing damping effects tip displacement, bending stress and the vertical reaction force at the fixed end is evaluated under some dynamic load of varying frequency, and finally it is discussed how resonance can be avoided for particular design. Investigation of results clearly shows that only structural analysis is not enough to predict the optimum values of dimension for safe design. Potentially this technique will meet maintenance and cost goals of many organizations particularly for the application where dynamic loading is invertible and helps a lot ensuring that the proposed design will be safe for both static and dynamic conditions.

Reliability and Validity of Korean version of Diabetes Empowerment Scale Short Form (단축형 당뇨병 임파워먼트 측정도구의 신뢰도와 타당도 검증)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of Diabetes Empowerment Measurement Scale Short Form (DES-SF) for use with diabetic patients in Korea. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was used with 107 participants. Bilingual nursing professionals performed translation and reverse translation. Reliability and validity such as face validity, construct validity, and concurrent validity were conducted. To assess the concurrent validity, the correlation coefficients between the Korean version of the DES-SF and a concurrent scale (Diabetes Self-Efficacy Scale, DSES) were calculated. Results: In the explanatory factor analysis, a uni-dimension was proposed, the one factor accounted for 49.4% of total variances. The Korean version of the DES-SF correlated with a concurrent variable such DSES for reliability of the Korean version of the DES-SF, Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.85$. Conclusion: The findings show that the Korean version of the DES-SF is reliable and valid for evaluating empowerment in patients with diabetes in Korea.

Static Aeroelastic Analysis of Hingeless Rotor System in Hover Using Free-Wake Method (자유후류기법을 이용한 무힌지 로터 시스템의 정지비행시 정적 공탄성 해석)

  • The static aeroelastic analysis of composite hingeless rotor blades in hover was performed using free-wake method. Large deflection beam theory was applied to analyze blade motions as a one-dimension beam. Anisotropic beam theory was applied to perform a cross-sectional analysis for composite rotor blades. Aerodynamic loads were calculated through a three-dimensional aerodynamic model which is based on the unsteady vortex lattice method. The wake geometry in hover was described using a time-marching free-wake method. Numerical results of the steady-state deflections for the composite hingeless rotor blades were presented and compared with those results based on two-dimensional quasi-steady strip theory and prescribed wake method. It was shown that wakes affect the steady-state deflections.
