We develop a low complexity cooperative diversity protocol for low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) based wireless sensor networks. A cross layer approach is used to obtain spatial diversity in the physical layer. In this paper, a simple modification in clustering algorithm of the LEACH protocol is proposed to exploit virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based user cooperation. In lieu of selecting a single cluster-head at network layer, we proposed M cluster-heads in each cluster to obtain a diversity order of M in long distance communication. Due to the broadcast nature of wireless transmission, cluster-heads are able to receive data from sensor nodes at the same time. This fact ensures the synchronization required to implement a virtual MIMO based space time block code (STBC) in cluster-head to sink node transmission. An analytical method to evaluate the energy consumption based on BER curve is presented. Analysis and simulation results show that proposed cooperative LEACH protocol can save a huge amount of energy over LEACH protocol with same data rate, bit error rate, delay and bandwidth requirements. Moreover, this proposal can achieve higher order diversity with improved spectral efficiency compared to other virtual MIMO based protocols.

Multicast-based data communication is an efficient communication scheme in wireless networks where the Media Access Control (MAC) layer is based on one-hop broadcast from one source to multiple receivers. Compared with unicast, multicast over wireless channel should handle varying channel conditions of multiple users and user mobility to achieve good quality for all users. However, IEEE 802.11 does not support reliable multicast due to its inability to exchange RTS/CTS and ACK with multiple recipients. Thus, several MAC layer protocols have been proposed to provide reliable multicast. For the reliable multicast, an additional overhead is introduced and it degrades the system performance. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer design to reduce the control overhead for reliable multicast in OFDMA systems. We present an analytical formulation of the system throughput associated with the overhead.

It is described that the total analysis of CD-R, a digital recording media, including the planning and performing chemical analysis of cross sectional structure of recording layer, dye composition and chemical structure as an example of design for chemical analysis. Since chemical analysis of unknown sample is often involved the complicated process requiring many experiences and knowledge, students feel difficulties in planning the procedure of chemical analysis and selecting analytical methods. Thus, an example of chemical analysis is provided here to help student understanding the hole procedure of CD-R analysis. In this study, SEM is used to determine the cross sectional structure of PC substrate and recoding layer of CD-R. The dyes in recording layer is dissolved with solvent and separated with using TLC, analyzed with using UV-Vis absorption spectrometer. Then, the chemical structure of each component is determined with using GC-MS, NMR and mass spectrometer.
This paper presents the development of transfer function accounting for cross-anisotropic behavior of aggregate base material for the pavement thickness design. The stress distributions predicted by nonlinear cross-anisotropic finite element program were realistic by eliminating excessive tensile stress at the bottom of the base layer and the critical pavement responses predicted by nonlinear cross-anisotropic model are higher than those predicted by linear or nonlinear isotropic models (Kim, 2004, Kim et at., 2005). Since the previously developed transfer functions such as Asphalt Institute and Chevron models, etc. were based on the critical responses obtained from linear isotropic model, those equations are not appropriate for the thickness design nonlinear cross-anisotropic base behavior. Therefore, the development of usable transfer functions for nonlinear cross-anisotropic model is ever more important. When the newly developed transfer functions were compared with AASHTO method for the thickness design, the newly developed transfer functions produce approximately 25mm reduced UAB thickness in AASHTO thickness design and this illustrates that linear isotropic model results in more conservative pavement design.
In recent years, the wireless mesh network (WMN) has been an emerging technology to provide Internet access to fixed and mobile wireless devices. The main goal of this paper is the design and simulation of a new MAC protocol based on the multi-path routing information for wireless mesh networks. The information about multiple paths discovered in the network layer is exploited by the MAC layer in order to forward a frame over the best hop out of multiple hop choices. The performance of our approach is compared with conventional 802.11 MAC through the simulation. The results show that our scheme exhibits a significantly better performance rather than conventional 802.11 MAC protocol in terms of packet overhead, end-to-end throughput and delay.
Numerical investigations were performed with an external-compression inlet with a three-dimensional bump at Mach 2 to scrutinize the geometrical effects of the bump in controlling the interaction of a shock wave with a boundary layer. The inlet was designed for two oblique shock waves and a terminal normal shock wave followed by a subsonic diffuser, with a circular cross-section throughout. The bump-type inlet that replaced the aft ramp of the conventional ramp-type inlet was optimized with respect to the inlet performance parameters as well as compared with the conventional ramp-type inlet. The current numerical simulations showed that a bump-type inlet can provide an improvement in the total pressure recovery downstream of the shock wave/boundary layer interaction over a conventional ramp-type inlet.

An optimal design method for a spoke double-layer cable-net structure (SDLC) is proposed in this study. Simplified calculation models of the SDLC are put forward to reveal the static responses under vertical loads and wind loads. Next, based on an energy principle, the relationship among the initial prestress level, cross-sectional areas of the components, rise height, sag height, overall displacement, and relative deformation is proposed. Moreover, a calculation model of the Foshan Center SDLC is built and optimized. Given the limited loading cases, material properties of the components, and variation ranges of the rise height and sag height, the self-weight and initial prestress level of the entire structure can be obtained. Because the self-weight of the cables decreases with increasing of the rise height and sag height, while the self-weight of the inner strut increases, the total weight of the entire structure successively exhibits a sharp reduction, a gradual decrease, a slow increase, and a sharp increase during the optimization process. For the simplified model, the optimal design corresponds to the combination of rise height and sag height that results in an appropriate prestress level of the entire structure with the minimum total weight.

It is well known that two-dimensional simplified third-order theories satisfy the layer interface continuity of transverse shear strains, thus these theories violate the continuity of transverse shear stresses when two consecutive layers differ either in fibre orientation or material. The third-order theories considered herein involve four/or five dependent unknowns in the displacement field and satisfy the condition of vanishing of transverse shear stresses at the bounding planes of the plate. The objective of this investigation is to examine (i) the flexural response prediction accuracy of these third-order theories compared to exact elasticity solution (ii) the effect of layer interface continuity conditions on the flexural response. To investigate the effect of layer interface continuity conditions, three-dimensional elasticity solutions are developed by enforcing the continuity of different combinations of transverse stresses and/or strains at the layer interfaces. Three dimensional twenty node solid finite element (having three translational displacements as degrees of freedom) without the imposition of any of the conditions on the transverse stresses and strains is also employed for the flexural analysis of the laminated plates for the purposes of comparison with the above theories. These shear deformation theories and elasticity approaches in terms of accuracy, adequacy and applicability are examined through extensive numerical examples.
The principles on which the Internet was designed and has evolved were first laid out in an explicit way 20 years age. The basic principle is that in layered communications network such as the Internet, functions should always be implemented at the end systems whenever the option exists. This applies to all functions that can be implemented either in the network or at the end systems. End-to-end arguments have recently been reexamined as the Internet and its uses have evolved, and a new set of requirements has begun to emerge. In addition to these, it add a new, and perhaps more important, requirement to this list in the case of heterogeneous networks: the proliferation of unpredictable wireless networks. Wireless networks must cope with dynamic link conditions not present in wired infrastructures, which place a heavy burden on quality of service management solutions. Managing QoS in the face of constantly changing operating conditions demands dynamic management approaches that span multiple layers in the protocol stack. Such as cross-layer design approaches have recently received attention in the context of cellular and mobile special networks. This article introduce the notion of network predictability and describe its relationship to achievable QoS. This relationship is used to propose a framework for cross layer design that can be used to guide development efforts and direct investment decisions for future networks.
