  • This study was conducted to examine effects of mating type on the growth traits in an $F_2$ population produced by reciprocal intercrosses between Landrace and the Jeju Native Black pig (JBP). The $F_2$ progeny were produced by two different mating types based on the grand dams of founder breeds JBP (Cross_1) and Landrace (Cross_2). The body weights at 21 days after birth (BW21D) was significantly different between Cross_1 and Cross_2 (P<0.05), showing that the BW21D of Cross_1 has about 0.25 kg heavier than Cross_2. The significant differences were found between males and females for the growth traits including the body weights (BWB, BW21D, BW70D and BW140D) and average daily gains (ADG, eADG and lADG) (P<0.05). Males were heavier BWB, BW21D and BW140D levels, and higher ADG and lADG levels than females. On the other hand, females had heavier BW70D and higher eADG levels than those of males. When considering the mating types and sex simultaneously the Cross_2 males had the heaviest BW140D among the combinations of cross and sex. In conclusion, it is desirable to choose Landrace as grand dams in the reciprocal intercrosses between Landrace and JBP for producing their progeny construction and to plan the production of $F_2$ males for industrial purposes. These results suggested that it may be one of useful strategies to improve the productivity through out selection of the mating type of founder breeds and the progeny sex, especially in Landrace, JBP and their related populations.

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural polymer consisting of disaccharide units of D-glucuronic acid and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine. It has a great potential and success in cosmetic and biomedical applications. However, native HA is highly soluble and easily metabolized by enzymes such as hyaluronidase. Thus, various studies have been reported on modifying the physicochemical properties of HA, while maintaining its biocompatibility. For controlled drug delivery, many trials for fabricating HA microspheres were achieved under chemical reaction. The HA microspheres fabricated to improve the physical stability of HA using adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH) by cross-linking reaction has been reported earlier, however it lacks the desired physical stability and rapidly decomposes by swelling or enzymes. Therefore, we prepared double cross-linked HA microspheres (DC-HA microspheres) and alginate containing HA microspheres (AC-HA microspheres) to enhance its physicochemical properties. DC-HA microspheres were prepared using trisodium trimetaphosphate (STMP) under crosslinking reaction after ADH cross-linking reaction. AC-HA microspheres were prepared by adding alginate as a networking polymer. These microspheres were characterized by morphology, particle size, zeta potential, stability against hyaluronidase. Results showed that the DC-HA and AC-HA microspheres are more stable than that of HA microspheres.

  • We have consider the study of local influence for smoothing parameter estimates in spline regression model with heteroscedasticity. Practically, generalized cross-validation does not work well in the presence of heteroscedasticity. Thus we have proposed the local influence measure for generalized cross-validation estimates when errors are heteroscedastic. And we have examined effects of diagnostic by above measures through Hyperinflation data.

  • A field colony of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch, was selected with tetradifon for 4 mousing whole-plant residual method. This strain showed 371-fold resistance to tetradifon. The log dosehatchability lines of $F_{1}$ eggs(RS cross; Td5female$\times$Smale, and SR cross; Sfemale$\times$Td5male) were closer to the line of the resistant colony than to that of the susceptible. These differences could be due to cytoplasmic inheritance or maternal effect. The estimate of dominance index (D) for the $F_{1}$ eggs of RS cross was 0.998 and that for $F_{1}$ eggs of SR cross was 0.262. This indicates that tetradifon resistance is completely dominant in RS cross and incompletely dominant in SR cross. Td5 strain exhibited high levels of resistance to clofentezine, benzoximate, and chlorfencon, and no cross resistance to fenazaquin, pyridaben, flufenoxuron, tebufenpyrad, and fenothiocarb.

  • Estimation of the gear shape and cross section of sweep at mouth of a bottom trawl net was described and applied to the field experiments obtained with the Scanmar system. The shape of the trawl net from wingend to the beginning of codend was assumed to be part of an elliptic cone of which the cross section was ellipse, and that of the float rope be of form $y_f=a_fx^{bf}$. In case of a bottom trawl with warp 180m long, the radius of ellipse, the cross section of sweep at mouth, the eccentricity of the ellipse, the inclination angle of float rope and the contribution of the side panel to net height were estimated in accordance with towing speed. The horizontal radius of the upper ellipse increased with increasing towing speed, the eccentricity of it became slightly bigger as increasing the towing speed which meant the shape of it being flat. And the inclination angle of the float rope was about between 7 and 12 degrees in case of the above bottom trawl.

  • In the present paper, we discribed distributions patterns of pits on the tracheids of Pinus koraiensis. The number of bordered pits on a tracheid is more numerous than that of cross-field pittings. And they appeared different in the number depending on the shape and size of tracheids. Both pit and cross-field pitting on a tracheid is fewer in number near the pith. The number of bordered pits on the tracheid increased rapidly from pith toward cambial zone but that of cross-field pittings increased gradually. The number of bordered pit and corss-field pitting is more frequent in the first-formed tracheid, and the number of bordered pit decreased rapidly from earlywood to latewood but that of corss-field pittings decreased gradually. Bordered pits on a tracheid are more numerous at the end of tracheids and cross-field pittings occur more frequently in the center part of a tracheid.

  • We have developed an efficient method to generate highly active Pd and PdO nanoparticles (NPs) dispersed on graphene and graphene oxide (GO) by an impregnation method combined with thermal treatments in $H_2$ and $O_2$ gas flows, respectively. The Pd NPs supported on graphene (Pd/G) and the PdO NPs supported on GO (PdO/GO) demonstrated excellent carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions under a solvent-free, environmentally-friendly condition. The morphological and chemical structures of PdO/GO and Pd/G were fully characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). We found that the remarkable reactivity of the Pd/G and PdO/GO catalysts toward the cross-coupling reaction is attributed to the high degree of dispersion of the Pd and PdO NPs while the oxidative states of Pd and the oxygen functionalities of graphene oxide are not critical for their catalytic performance.

  • In order to breed a Cordyceps bassiana isolate that stably forms fruiting body in artificial cultivation, isolates derived from subculturing and single spores were tested through mating. From C. bassiana EFCC 783, three subcultured isolates EFCC 2830, EFCC 2831 and EFCC 2832 were obtained and fourteen single conidial isolates were obtained from these three subcultured isolates. Two different morphological types were found in the fourteen single conidial isolates. One type was able to form synnemata and another type was not able to form synnemata. Since switch of morphological type was not observed despite their continuous subculturing, cross was performed between the two types and the formation of fruiting body was examined. Ascospores were obtained from a selected fruiting body formed by hybrid of the cross. Self-cross and combinational cross of the ascospore-derived isolates generated hybrids that stably produce high quality fruiting body in artificial media.

  • Rats were immunized through an initial infection with 1,000 filariform larvae (L3) of Nippostrongylus brasiliensis and after complete expulsion of worms they were challenged with 1,000 L3 of Strongyloides venezuelensis to investigate whether cross-resistance developed against a heterologous parasite. Nippostrongylus brasiliensis immunized rats developed a partial cross-resistance against S.venezuelensis migrating larvae (MSL3) in the lungs and adult worms in the small intestine. The population of MSL3 in the lungs were significantly lower (p<0.05) in immunized rats($22.0{\;}{\pm}{\;}7.4$) compared with controls ($105.0{\;}{\pm}{\;}27.6$). The populations of adult worms, egg output and fecundity were initially decreased but from day 14 post-challenge they did not show any significant difference between immunized and control rats. However, the length of worm in immunized rat was revealed as retardation. Peripheral blood eosinophilia was significantly decreased (P<0.05) on day 7 post-challenge and then gradually increased which peaked on da 42 post-challenge when most of the worms were expelled. these results suggest that peripheral blood eosinophilia is strongly involved in the worm establishment and expulsion mechanisms.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to confirm that the cross-country ski sprint course in PyeongChang, where the 2018 Winter Olympics course was to utilize wearable devices equipped with inertial measurement unit (IMU), global positioning system (GPS) and heart rates sensor. Method: For the data collection, two national level cross-country (XC) skiers performed classic technique on the entire sprint course. We analyzed cycle characteristics, range of motion on double poling (DP) technique, average velocity, and displacement of 3 points according to the terrain. Results: The absolute cycle time gradually decreased during starting, middle and finish sections. While the length of the DP increased and the heart rates tended to increase for men skier. In addition, the results indicated that range of motion of knee joint during starting and finish section decreased more than middle section. The errors of latitude and longitude data collected through GPS were within 3 m from 3 points. Conclusion: Through the first case study in Korea, which analyzed the location and condition of XC skiers in the entire sprint course in real time, confirmed that feedback was available in the field using various wearable sensors.
