Poly(g-glutamic acid) (g-PGA) is a very promising biodegradable polymer that is produced by microorganism of Bacillus subtilis. Because g-PGA is water-soluble, anionic, biodegradable, and even edible, its potential applications have been studied from an industrial standpoint. In this study, we fabricated porous g-PGA foams by means of a freeze-solvent extraction method for tissue-engineering applications. Porous g-PGA foams were chemically cross-linked using a hexamethylene diisocyanate solution. An aqueous basic solution was used to neutralize g-PGA foam for cell culturing. During an in vitro cell culture study, it was observed that primary rabbit ear chondrocytes were well at tached and spread over the surface oft hree-dimensional cross-linkedg-PGA foam. From these results, it is concluded that cross-linkedg-PGA foam is aprom is in gmaterial for tissue-engineering applications, especially those pertaining to the regeneration of human cartilage.
Two-phase cross-flow exists in many shell-tube heat exchangers such as steam generators, condensers and reboilers. An understanding of flow-induced vibration excitation mechanism is necessary to avoid problems due to excessive tube vibration. This paper presents the results of a series of experiments done on tube bundles of different geometries subjected to two-phase cross-flow simulated by air-water mixtures. Normal(30$^{\circ}$) and rotated (60$^{\circ}$)triangular, and normal(90$^{\circ}$) and rotated (45$^{\circ}$) square tube bundle configurations of pitch-to-diameter ratio of 1.2 to 1.5 were tested over a range of mass fluxes from 0 to 1,000kg/$m^2$ㆍ s and void fraction from 0 to 100%. The effects of tube bundle geometry on vibration excitation mechanism such as fluidelastic instability and random turbulence, and on dynamic parameters such as damping and hydrodynamic mass are discussed. A lower pitch-to-diameter results in a higher hydrodynamic mass. The effect of tube bundle configurations on damping and random turbulence excitation is minor. The effect of pitch-to-diameter on the fluidelastic instability, however, is significant.
The 123Te(p,n)123I, 124Te(p,n)124I and 124Te(p,2n)123I reactions, among the many reaction channels opened, are the major reactions under consideration from a diagnostic purpose because reaction residuals as the gamma emitters are used for most radiophamaceutical applications involving radioiodine. Based on the available experimental data, the absorption cross sections and elastic scattering angular distributions of the proton-induced nuclear reaction on Te isotopes below 60 MeV are calculated using the optical model code APMNK. The transmission coefficients of neutron, proton, deuteron, trition and alpha particles are calculated by CUNF code and are fed into the GNASH code. By adjusting level density parameters and the pair correction values of some reaction channels, as well as the composite nucleus state density constants of the pre-equilibrium model, the production cross sections and energy-angle correlated spectra of the secondary light particles, as well as production cross sections and energy distributions of heavy recoils and gamma rays are calculated by the statistical plus pre-equilibrium model code GNASH. The calculated results are analysed and compared with the experimental data taken from the EXFOR. The optimized global optical model parameters give overall agreement with the experimental data over both the entire energy range and all tellurium isotopes.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the status of tuberculosis (TB) infection control in hospitals. Method: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study in which self-administered questionnaires were used to survey 77 hospitals. Data were collected from August 12 to September 15, 2012. Results: Only 27 institutions (35.1%) were monitoring patients infected with or suspected of having TB. Most hospitals were conducting TB prevention education for patients' family and employees, and TB screening for employees along with follow-up examinations. However, private negative pressure rooms were more often available in wards and intensive care units than in outpatient departments, and in institutions with over 700 beds located in Seoul or GyeongGi Province. Most hospitals ensured that masks were placed on infected patients while transporting them. In addition, efforts to control TB infection such as placing respiratory etiquette posters in outpatient departments and airborne infection signs on the doors in the wards were also well established in most institutions. Conclusion: More efforts are needed to improve the status of TB infection control to ensure quality care, especially in terms of monitoring patients with TB infections and making private negative pressure rooms available in outpatient departments.
To evaluate the sensitivity of Monilinia fructicola to dicarboximides used in controlling brown rot of peach, the fungus was isolated from commercial peach orchards in Chochiwon (CH), Chongdo (CD), Gyeongsan (GY), and Youngduk (YO) in Korea. The population shift of dicarboximide-resistant isolates of M. fructicola was investigated for 3 years starting 1998. The frequency of procymidone-resistant isolates (PRI) was higher in CD and GY than in CH and YO. The frequency of PRI was higher in the mid season (July-August) than in the rest of the year. Cross-resistance rate of PRI to iprodione was over 87.8% during the investigation, and double-resistance to both procymidone and carbendazim was less than 10%. However, the rate of cross-resistant isolates to vinclozolin was low. In the orchards in GY and CH without any fungicide spray, the PRI population was persistent and did not vary for 3 years. The results suggest that dicarboximide resistance of M. fructicola could be a problem in controlling brown rot and blossom blight on peach trees because it may take a long time to recover the population with sensitive isolates even in the absence of these fungicides.

Cooperative forwarding has shown a substantial network performance improvement compared to traditional routing in multi-hop wireless network. To further enhance the system throughput, especially in the presence of highly congested multiple cross traffic flows, a promising way is to incorporate the multi-radio multi-channel (MRMC) capability into cooperative forwarding. However, it requires to jointly address multiple issues. These include radio-channel assignment, routing metric computation, candidate relay set selection, candidate relay prioritization, data broadcasting over multi-radio multi-channel, and best relay selection using a coordination scheme. In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient cluster-based cooperative data forwarding (CCDF) which jointly addresses all these issues. We study the performance impact when the same candidate relay set is being used for multiple cross traffic flows in the network. The network simulation shows that the CCDF with MRMC not only retains the advantage of receiver diversity in cooperative forwarding but also minimizes the interference, which therefore further enhances the system throughput for the network with multiple cross traffic flows.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the result of one-way ANOVA with that of cross-correlation time series analysis in order to evaluate physiologic responses of premature infants to human voices. Methods: Four premature infants born prior to 32 weeks gestational age were included in the study. The Gould 4000TA Recording System recorded the preterm infant's heart and respiratory rate while they were listening to a pre-recorded voice recording. Each infant listened to both male and female voices (1 min each) at each testing session. Results: The results of both one-wayANOVA and cross-correlation time series analysis using heart and respiratory rate data were not consistent in some of premature infants. A cross-correlation time series analysis revealed that the responses of premature infant to vocal stimulation occurred at a varying number of seconds after the stimulus was presented and lasted for over 20-30 sec. Conclusion: The results indicate that a time series analysis can provide more detailed information on the rapidly changing physiologic status of premature infant to the auditory stimulus. In addition, the results provide an insight into an auditory responsitivity of premature infants to a naturally occurring sound, the human voice, in the neonatal intensive care unit.
The out-of-pile mechanical performance and microstructure of recrystallized Zr-1.5 Nb-S alloy was investigated. The strength of the recrystallized Zr-1.5Nb-O-S alloys was observed to increase with the addition of sulfur over a wide temperature range, from room temperature up to $300^{\circ}C$. A yield drop and stress serrations due to dynamic strain were observed at room temperature and $300^{\circ}C$. Wavy and curved dislocations and loosely knit tangles were observed after strained to 0.07 at room temperature, suggesting that cross slip is easier. At $300^{\circ}C$, however, dislocations were observed to be straight and aligned along the slip plane, suggesting that cross slip is rather difficult. At $300^{\circ}C$, oxygen atoms are likely to exert a drag force on moving dislocations, intensifying the dynamic strain aging effect. Oxygen atoms segregated at partial dislocations of a screw dislocation with the edge component may hinder the cross slip, resulting in the rather straight dislocations distributed on the major slip planes. Recrystallized Zr-Nb-S alloys exhibited ductile fracture surfaces, supporting the beneficial effect of sulfur in zirconium alloys. Oxidation resistance in air was also found to be improved with the addition of sulfur in Zr-1.5 Nb-O alloys.
Machine tools of Gantry type have been performing machine work as a moving machinery. In a large machine tools, the machinery is moving with bed and it is structurally unstable. When the objects are processed, machine tools gets loads in the direction of Z-axis. In other words, the machine tools which become bigger was performed by the trend of complexation. It made that the increased machine weight can't be passed over. In order to enhance manufacturing precision, it needs to compensate Z-axis deflection of weight for machine tools. In this paper, Machine tools of Gantry type were miniaturized and deflection was measured by LVDT sensors. When deflection was measured, block mass weighted 50kg is moving on particular distance. Then, the displacement of fixed point and moving point is measured by recording telemeter.
Study on the electron transport coefficient in mixtures of CF4 and Ar, have been analyzed over a range of the reduced electric field strength between 0.1 and 350[Td] by the two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation (BEq.) method and the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). The calculations of electron swarm parameters require the knowledge of several collision cross-sections of electron beam. Thus, published momentum transfer, ionization, vibration, attachment, electronic excitation, and dissociation cross-sections of electrons for $CF_4$ and Ar, were used. The differences of the transport coefficients of electrons in $CF_4$ mixtures of Ar, have been explained by the deduced energy distribution functions for electrons and the complete collision cross-sections for electrons. The results of the Boltzmann equation and the Monte Carlo simulation have been compared with the data presented by several workers. The deduced transport coefficients for electrons agree reasonably well with the experimental and simulation data obtained by Nakamura and Hayashi. The energy distribution function of electrons in $CF_4-Ar$ mixtures shows the Maxwellian distribution for energy. That is, $f({\varepsilon})$ has the symmetrical shape whose axis of symmetry is a most probably energy. The proposed theoretical simulation techniques in this work will be useful to predict the fundamental process of charged particles and the breakdown properties of gas mixtures. A two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation analysis and Monte Carlo simulation have been used to study electron transport coefficients.
