  • The wind load on building surface is numerically investigated. The geometry of target building is a square cross section and aspect ratio (height (H) to width (d)) is 6. On building surface, the pressure was measured, compared to obtained value from numerical simulation. The numerical simulations were done using URANS with three different turbulence models such as v2-f model, k-${\omega}$model, and k-${\varepsilon}$ model, respectively. The v2-f model showed the best agreement with experimental data in simulating mean pressure coefficients on front, rear and side surface. But unsteady characteristics of pressure history measured on surface is shown a discrepancy between experiment and numerical simulation.

  • In order to analyze the effect of meteorological elements on ozone concentration, we carried out cross-correlation of the elements with ozone concentraton, and time series analysis on them. As a result, it revealed that temperature, wind speed and humidity are not independent variables with ozone concentrations, and also, solar radiation and mixing height are the major elements that affect them. We developed models for ozone with solar radiation and mixing height as dependent variables to verify the effect of major meteorological elements. The predicted ozone concentration has strong correlation coefficients, So, We could conclude that we can predict ozone concentreation only with solar raidation and mixing height as dependents.

  • This study discusses a non-contact optical technique (electronic speckle pattern interferometry) that is well suited for thermal deformation measurement without any surface preparation and compensating process. Fiber reinforced plastics ($[0]_{16},\;[0/90]_{8S}$) were analyzed by ESPI to determine their thermal expansion coefficients. The thermal expansion coefficient of the transverse direction of a uniaxial composite is evaluated as $48.78{\times}10^{-6}(1/^{\circ}C)$. Also, the thermal expansion coefficient of the cross-ply laminate $[0/90]_{8S}$ is numerically estimated as $3.23{\times}10^{-6}(1/^{\circ}C)$ that is compared with that measured by ESPI.

  • Animation technique from the PIV database is particularly emphasized to give macroscopic and Quantitative description of complex flow fields. As an example, an experimental study was carried out investigate the fundamental (low characteristics of the freezer with the domestic refrigerator. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity vectors is implemented by direct calculation of correlation coefficients. Image intensifier CCD camera to cope with illumination problem is arranged for the accurate PIV measurement of large flow field. As a results, continuous pictures of the spatial distribution of the instantaneous and time-mean velocity distribution are displayed in real-time sense.

  • Recently, particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis system was installed at the 2MV ion acceleration system in Korea institute science and technology (KIST). This installation is for complement to low atomic resolution of heavy atoms at Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) system. For quantitative analysis, a mass calibration of the PIXE set-up has been done with thin film standards and. The GUPIX software package has been used to process the PIXE spectra and the results are compared with the values from RBS system. Therefore, the instrumental constant H (solid angle and correction factor) is determined relying completely on the GUPIX data base (cross-sections, fluorescence and Coster-Kronig probabilities, stopping powers and attenuation coefficients) for a large set of elements. These H values can be used in future analysis.

  • Recently, the prevention of crime using CCTV draws special in accordance with the higher crime incidence rate. Therefore security systems like a CCTV with audio capability are developing for giving an instant alarm. This paper proposes a scream detecting engine from various ambient noises in real environment for surveillance systems. The proposed engine detects scream signals among the various ambient noises using the features extracted in time/frequency domain. The experimental result shows the performance of our engine is very promising in comparison with the traditional engines using the model based features like LPC, LPCC and MFCC. The proposed method has a low computational complexity by using FFT and cross correlation coefficients instead of extracting complex features like LPC, LPCC and MFCC. Therefore the proposed engine can be efficient for audio-based surveillance systems with low SNRs in real field.

  • A new iris segmentation and recognition method is described. Combining a statistical classification and elastic boundary fitting, the iris is first segmented robustly and accurately. Once the iris is segmented, one-dimensional signals are computed in the iris and decomposed into multiple frequency bands. Each decomposed signal is approximated by a piecewise linear curve connecting a small set of node points. The node points represent features of each signal. The similarity measture between two iris images is the normalized cross-correlation coefficients between simplified signals.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Co, $Co-20\;wt.\%$ CuSn and $Co-20\;wt.\%$ WC composites were investigated. Wear tests of the materials were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear tester at various loads of 10N-100N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.38m/s against glass ($83\%\;SiO_2$) beads. Sliding distances were varied with a range of $100m{\sim}600m$. A scanning electron microscopy was used to examine morphologies of worn surfaces, cross-sections, and wear debris. The $Co-20\;wt.\%$ WC composite had the highest and the $Co-20\;wt.\%$ CuSn composite showed the lowest wear resistance among the tested materials. All specimens exhibited low friction coefficients ranging from 0.12 to 0.4 at the applied load of 100N.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify influential factors on compassion fatigue in hospital nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was conducted with a survey of 358 general hospital nurses in Busan Gyeongnam area. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were performed using SPSS/WIN 18.0 for Windows. Results: The mean score was 28.53 in compassion fatigue. As a result of multiple regression analysis, empathic ability, stress coping strategy, current workplace, and academic background were statistically significant predictors explained 26.0% of the variance of compassion fatigue. Conclusion: It was suggested to consider emphatic ability, stress coping strategy, workplace, and academic background when developing a program available for preventing and easing nurses' compassion fatigue.

  • We have made the cross calibration in terms of space reflectance between POLDER and OCTS sensors on board ADEOS satellite, using the POLDER and OCTS data acquired simultaneously on April 24, 1997. The space reflectance values for the same target computed from the POLDER and OCTS data are in very good agreement, when we adopted the new calibration coefficients of OCTS suggested by the vicarious experiment by NASDA. Then, we estimated aerosol parameters for several target areas (two areas in the Sea of Japan and three in the Pacific Ocean) from ADEOS/POLDER's directional reflectance and polarization data in 760nm and 865nm bands. A single atmospheric layer model with an isotropic Gaussian type ocean surface (Cox-Munk model) was assumed in this study.
