Application of a Pulse Electric Field to Cross-flow Ultrafiltration of Protein Solution

  • The application of pulsed electric field was investigated in the crossflow ultrafiltration of BSA (bovine serum albumn) to economize the application time of electric current as well as to avoid inherent problems of long-term application of electric field. During the application of various cyclic patterns of pulsed electric current, the averaged filtration flowrate and the degree of concentration were maintained higher than those obtained in the absence of electric current application. The temperature increase, pH change, and BSA loss by electrodeposition were all negligible during the operation. The averaged filtration flowrate increased as the ON/OFF duration ratio of electric current was higher and as the period of ON/OFF cycle was shorter. The re-establishment of concentration polarization was dependent to the duration of current OFF state and, therefore, a longer duration of OFF state was not favorable in maintaining higher filtration flow rate. Although the averaged filtration flowrate was enhanced as the magnitude of electric current increased, the flowrate enhancement became smaller as the magnitude of current value above which the degree of electrokinetic depolarization is no further improved.

펄스길이에 따른 이중편파변수의 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of Polarimetric Observations by Two Different Pulse Lengths of Dual-Polarization Weather Radar)

  • The observational sensitivity of dual-polarization weather radar was quantitatively analyzed by using two different pulse widths. For this purpose, test radar scan strategy which consisted of consecutive radar scan using long (LP: $2{\mu}s$) and short (SP: $1{\mu}s$) pulses at the same elevation angle was employed. The test scan strategy was conducted at three operational S-band dual-polarization radars (KSN, JNI, and GSN) of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). First, the minimum detectable reflectivity (MDR) was analyzed as a function of range using large data set of reflectivity ($Z_H$) obtained from JNI and GSN radars. The MDR of LP was as much as 7~22 dB smaller than that of SP. The LP could measure $Z_H$ greater than 0 dBZ within the maximum observational range of 240 km. Secondly, polarimetric observations and the spatial extent of radar echo between two pulses were compared. The cross-polar correlation coefficient (${\rho}_{hv}$) from LP was greater than that from SP at weak reflectivity (0~20 dBZ). The ratio of $Z_H$ (> 0 dBZ) and ${\rho}_{hv}$(> 0.95) bin to total bin calculated from LP were greater than those from SP (maximum 7.1% and 13.2%). Thirdly, the frequency of $Z_H$ (FOR) during three precipitation events was analyzed. The FOR of LP was greater than that of SP, and the difference in FOR between them increased with increasing range. We conclude that the use of LP can enhance the sensitivity of polarimetric observations and is more suitable for detecting weak echoes.

원형편파를 갖는 원형 링 마이크로스트립 슬롯 안테나 (Printed Annular Ring Slot Antenna for Circular Polarization)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존 원형 링 마이크로스트립 슬롯 안테나의 방사소자 일부를 제거하고, 길이가 서로 다른 십자슬롯을 부설하여 원형편파를 구현하고, 안테나 크기를 소형화시킨 새로운 구조의 안테나를 제안하였다. 급전구조는 입력단 설계가 간단하고 정합이 쉬운 전자파 결합방식을 사용하였고, Ansoft HFSS V8.0으로 최적화한 후 제작 및 측정하였다. 제안된 안테나는 GPS(1.5 GHz)대역에서 1.9 %의 축비 대역폭(AR$\leq$3 dB)을 나타내었고, LHCP$.$RHCP 각각의 구조에서 7.74 %의 임피던스 대역폭(VSWR$\leq$2)을 나타내었다. 이는 기존의 원형링 마이크로스트립 슬롯 안테나의 임피던스 대역폭 및 축비 특성을 보다 더 개선한 것이다.

  • 모서리-절단 사각형 패치를 격자 형태로 배열하고 순차 회전 기법을 이용하여 위성방송수신 대역에서 동작하는 LHCP 원형 편파 안테나를 설계한다. 삼각형 격자 현태의 순차 회전 기법을 사용한 안테나는 축비 대역폭, 교차 편파 특성등을 개선하는 효과가 있으며, 급전 선로에 의한 방사를 최소로 하여 방사 패턴에 미치는 영향을 줄일 수 있다. 설계된 안테나는 $\Phi$45$^{\circ}$평면에서 DBS 배열 안테나의 부엽 준위 규격(-27dB)과 교차 편파 준위(-20dB)를 만족하고 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 천정에 부착할 분구형 리플렉터를 이용한 마이크로파대의 새로운 옥내 무선통신시스템을 구축하는데 필요한 반구형 리플렉터의 산란특성 및 옥내 전파특성을 평가하기 위해 송수신 공용 원편파 양선 코니칼 혼안테나를 설계, 제작하고 그 제특성을 구했다. 그 결과, 편파식별도 27 dB이상, 축비 1.25 dB 이하의 양호한 원편파 양선출력 특성이 얻어졌다.

Effect of Feed Substrate Thickness on the Bandwidth and Radiation Characteristics of an Aperture-Coupled Microstrip Antenna with a High Permittivity Feed Substrate

  • The impedance bandwidth and radiation characteristics of an aperture-coupled microstrip line-fed patch antenna (ACMPA) with a high permittivity (${\varepsilon}_r=10$) feed substrate suitable for integration with a monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) are investigated for various feed substrate thicknesses through an experiment and computer simulation. The impedance bandwidth of an ACMPA with a high permittivity feed substrate increases as the feed substrate thickness decreases. Furthermore, the front-to-back ratio of an ACMPA with a high permittivity feed substrate increases and the cross-polarization level decreases as the feed substrate thickness decreases. As the impedance bandwidth of an ACMPA with a high permittivity feed substrate increases and its radiation characteristics improve as the feed substrate thickness decreases, the ACMPA configuration becomes suitable for integration with an MMIC.

Estimation of Sea Surface Wind Speed and Direction From RADARSAT Data

  • Wind vector information over the ocean is currently obtained using multiple beam scatterometer data. The scatterometers on ERS-1/2 generate wind vector information with a spatial resolution of 50km and accuracies of $\pm$2m/s in wind speed and $\pm$20$^{\circ}$ in wind direction. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data over the ocean have the potential of providing wind vector information independent of weather conditions with finer resolution. Finer resolution wind vector information can often be useful particularly in coastal regions where the scatterometer wind information is often corrupted because of the lower resolution system characteristics which is often contaminated by the signal returns from the coastal areas or ice in the case of arctic environments. In this paper we tested CMOD_4 and CMOD_IFR2 algorithms for extracting the wind vector from SAR data. These algorithms require precise estimation of normalized radar cross-section and wind direction from the SAR data and the local incidence angle. The CMOD series algorithms were developed for the C-band, VV-Polarized SAR data, typically for the ERS SAR data. Since RADARSAT operates at the same C-band but with HH-Polarization, the CMOD series algorithms should not be used directly. As a preliminary approach of resolving with this problem, we applied the polarization ratio between the HH and VV polarizations in the wind vectors estimation. Two test areas, one in front of Inchon and several sites around Jeju island were selected and investigated for wind vector estimation. The new results were compared with the wind vectors obtained from CMOD algorithms. The wind vector results agree well with the observed wind speed data. However the estimation of wind direction agree with the observed wind direction only when the wind speed is greater than approximately 3.0m/s.

Transmission Performance Comparison of Direction Detection-Based 100-Gb/s Modulation Formats for Metro Area Optical Networks

  • Transmission performances of direct detection-based 100-Gb/s modulation formats are investigated and compared for metro area optical networks. The effects of optical signal-to-noise ratio sensitivity, chromatic dispersion, cross-channel nonlinearity, and transmission distance on the performance of differential 8-ary phase-shift keying (D8PSK), differential phase-shift keying plus three-level amplitude-shift keying (DPSK+3ASK), and dual-carrier differential quaternary phase-shift keying (DC-DQPSK) are evaluated. The performance of coherent dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) with block phase estimation and coherent DP-QPSK with digital differential detection are also presented for reference. According to our analysis, all three direct detection modulation formats could transmit a 100-Gb/s signal over several hundred kilometers of a single-mode fiber link. The results also show that DC-DQPSK outperforms D8PSK and DPSK+3ASK, and the performance of DC-DQPSK is comparable to that of coherent DP-QPSK with digital differential detection. The maximum transmission distance of DC-DQPSK is over 1,000 km, which is enough distance for metro applications.

Carbon-13 CP MAS NMR Study on Structures of Octadecyl Chains Influenced by Co-Presence of 3-Aminopropyl Chains on SBA-15

  • Functionalized SAB-15 samples by octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTC) were studied by 13C magic angle spinning (MAS) cross polarization (CP) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In the SBA-15 sample fully functionalized by 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS) and OTC in 1:1 molar ratio, octadecyl chains were observed to have, on average, more trans conformation than those in the SBA-15 samples fully modified by OTC only. Our results confirm that long chain molecules tend to organize themselves better in the co-presence of short chain molecules on the surface of mesoporous materials by packing of the different length chains in an interdigitized fashion even when the short chains are long enough to have three carbons and a functional group at the ends. In addition, our results indicate that solid-state 13C CP MAS NMR spectroscopy is a simple and non-destructive method to probe the molecular structures of the domains composed of long alkyl chains.

실리카 나노입자 표면에 결합된 2차 아미노기와 Poly(ethylene glycol) Diacrylate의 마이클 부가반응에 대한 연구 (Studies on the Michael Addition Reaction between Secondary Amino Groups on the Silica Surface with Poly(ethylene glycol) Diacrylates)

  • 본 연구에서는 실리카 나노입자를 우수한 내가수분해성을 가지는 dipodal 형태의 bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]amine(BTMA) 실란 커플링제로 표면 개질한 후, 실리카에 도입된 BTMA의 2차 아미노기인 N-H기와 마이클 부가반응이 가능한 acrylate기를 1분자당 2개씩 가지는 poly(ethylene glycol)diacrylate(PEGDA)로 표면 처리하여 acrylate기를 실리카 입자 표면에 도입하는 연구를 수행하였다. PEGDA의 몰수 및 3가지 서로 다른 분자량의 PEGDA(M.W. 258, 575, 700) 처리가 실리카 표면에 도입되는 acrylate기의 구조에 미치는 영향을 fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), elemental analysis(EA, 원소분석) 및 고체 상태 $^{13}C$ cross-polarization magic angle spinning(CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR)법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 액체상태의 순수 PEGDA와 순수 BTMA를 같은 몰 비로 반응시키면 PEGDA 1분자당 2개씩 존재하는 acrylate기 중 1개 acrylate기는 순수 BTMA의 N-H기와 1:1의 비율로 마이클 부가반응이 일어나 ${\beta}$-amino acid ester를 형성하고, 나머지 1개의 acrylate기는 남아서 중합반응이 가능한 단량체 합성이 가능하다. 하지만, BTMA로 개질된 실리카 입자를 PEGDA와 반응시키면, PEGDA 1분자당 2개씩 결합있는 acrylate기 대부분이 실리카 입자에 결합되어 있는 BTMA의 N-H기와 마이클 부가반응으로 ${\beta}$-amino acid ester를 형성하여, acrylate기의 C=C기 대부분이 C-C로 변화함을 확인하였다.
