Probabilistic Performance Evaluation Technique for Mixed-criticality Scheduling with Task-level Criticality-mode (작업별 중요도 모드를 적용한 혼합 중요도 스케줄링에서 확률적 성능 평가 기법)

  • Mixed-criticality systems consist of components with different criticality. Recently, components are categorized depending on criticality by ISO 26262 standard and DO-178B standard in automotive and avionic domain. Existing mixed-criticality system research achieved efficient and safe scheduling through system-level criticality mode. The drawback of these approaches is performance degradation of low-criticality tasks on high-criticality mode. Task-level criticality mode is one method to address the problem and improve the performance of low-critical tasks. In this paper, we propose probabilistic performance metric for the approach. In simulation results with probabilistic performance metric, we showed that our approach has better performance than the existing approaches.

  • Criticality alarm systems (CASs) are mandatory in nuclear plants for prompt alarm in the event of any criticality incident. False criticality alarms are not desirable as they create a panic environment for radiation workers. The present article describes the design enhancement of the CAS at each stage and provides maximum availability, preventing false criticality alarms. The failure mode and effect analysis are carried out on each element of a CAS. Based on the analysis, additional hardware circuits are developed for early fault detection. Two different methods are developed, one method for channel loop functionality test and another method for dose alarm test using electronic transient pulse. The design enhancement made for the external systems that are integrated with a CAS includes the power supply, criticality evacuation hooter circuit, radiation data acquisition system along with selection of different soft alarm set points, and centralized electronic test facility. The CAS incorporating all improvements are assembled, installed, tested, and validated along with rigorous surveillance procedures in a nuclear plant for a period of 18,000 h.

  • The inter-development of FMECA is very important to assess the effect of potential failures during system operation on mission, safety and performance. Among these, criticality analysis is a core task that identifies items with high risk and selects the analyzed objects as the key management targets and reflects their effects to the design optimization. In this paper, we analyze the theory related to criticality analysis following US military standard, and propose a method to quantify the failure effect probability for objective criticality analysis. The criticality analysis according to the US military standard depends on the subjective judgment of the failure probability. The methodology for quantifying the failure effect probability is presented by using the reliability theory and the Bayes theorem. The failure rate is calculated by applying the method to quantify failure effect probability.

  • The criticality of the shipping cask(KSC-7) for transportion of 7PWR spent fuel assemblies has been calculated and analysised on the basis of neutron transport theory. For criticality analysis, effects of the rod pitches, the fixed neutron absorbers(borated sus+boral) were considered. The effective multiplication factor has been calculated by KENO-Va, Mote Carlo method computer code, with the HANSEN-ROACH 16 group cross section set, which was made for personal computer system. The criticality for the KSC-7 cask was calculated in terms of the fresh fuel which was conservative for the aspects of nuclear critility. From the results of criticality analysis, the calculated Keff is proved to be lower than subcritical limit during normal transportation and under hypothetical accident condition. The maximum calculated criticalities of the KSC-7 were lower the safety criticality limit 1.0 recommended by US 10CFR71 both under normal and hypothetical accident condition. Also, to verify the KSC-7 criticality calculation results by using KENO-Va, it was carried out benchmark calculation with experimental data of B & W(Bobcock and Wilcox) company. From the 3s series of calculation of the KSC-7 cask and benchmark calculation, the cask was safely designed in nuclear criticality, respectively.

  • In this paper, we applied the migration technique to real-time tasks that have relatively low criticality but still important to be dropped by the mixed-criticality scheduling algorithms. The proposed drop and migrate algorithm analyzes the schedulability by calculating CPU utilization and response time of using task migration. We provide analysis to guarantee the deadline of LO-tasks, by transforming the response time equation specified with migration time. The transformed response time equation was able to analyze the migration schedulability. This algorithm can be used with various mixed-criticality schedulers as a supplementary method. We expect this algorithm will be used for scheduling LO-tasks such as communication task that requires safety guarantee especially in platooning and autonomous driving by utilizing the advantages of multiple node connectivities.

  • The combat system has a different purpose depending on its mission. All functions of combat system are important, but, the components that related main functions for the purpose, are important than other components. Also, the hit probability of component is proportional to area of the component. Therefore, when we analyze vulnerability of combat system, to consider the importance and hit probability of component. Thus to improve reliability of combat system, we apply the analyzed result to design combat system. In this paper, we develop a vulnerability analysis program based on criticality which calculated from importance and hit probability of components by related researches. To do this, we propose a methodology to apply criticality of components, and define classification rates for calculating criticality based on FMECA. Additionally, we propose a technique of vulnerability analysis using criticality of components, and apply the proposed technique to develop and test the vulnerability analysis program for automation of analysis.

  • The purpose of this paper is to carry out Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and use criticality in order to determine risk priority number of the components of electric power installations in Engineering college building of D university. In risk priority number, GROUP A had 7 failure modes; more specifically, Transfomer had 4 modes, Filter(C)(1 mode), LA(1 mode), and CB(MCCB)(1 mode), and thus 4 components had failure modes. In terms of criticality, high-grade group a total of 16 failure modes, and 7 components-LA(1 mode), CB(MCCB)(1 mode), MOF(2 modes), PT(1 mode), Transformer(7 modes), Cable(3 modes), and Filter(C)(1 mode)-had failure modes. Comparison of risk priority number and criticality was made. The components which had high risk priority number and high criticality were Transformer, Filter(C), LA, and CB(MCCB). The components which had high criticality were MOF and cable. In particular, Transformer(RPN: 4 modes, Criticality: 7 modes) was chosen as an intensive management component.

Application of the HELIOS-MASTER Code System on the Criticality Analysis for the SMART-P Spent Fuel Storage (SMART연구로 사용후 연료 저장조의 임계해석에 HELIOS-MASTER계산체계의 적용)

  • The criticality analysis method using HELIOS-MASTER code system, which is the nuclear core analysis code system, was developed for the spent fuel storage of SMART-P reactor. We generated the macroscopic cross section of the geometric model with HELIOS and estimated the criticality of the 3-dimensional model with MASTER for SMART-P spent fuel storage. The validity of criticality analysis method for SMART-P spent fuel storage with the HELIOS-MASTER code system by 3-D MCNP calculation was also verified. The result of the criticality analysis with the HELIOS-MASTER code system is more conservative than that with the MCNP and the accuracy of this result is within the range of an allowable error. Because HELIOS-MASTER can perform the 3-D depletion calculation lot a spent fuel storage, it will be useful to perform the criticality analysis including a burnup credit in future.

  • The purpose of Reliability Centered Maintenance(Hereafter, RCM) is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of preventive maintenance by applying the improvement plan after analysis of existing preventive maintenance. To accomplish this, it is required to collect the failure data for equipments during operation, and to carry out the quantitative criticality analysis for each equipment. This paper shows that the case study of RCM criticality analysis based on the accumulative failure data and following improvement activity for KORAIL AIRPORT RAILROAD's E&M system.

  • Collaborative Cyber-Physical Systems (CCPS) are those systems that contain tightly coupled physical and cyber components, massively interconnected subsystems, and collaborate to achieve a common goal. The safety of a single Cyber-Physical System (CPS) can be achieved by following the safety standards such as ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 or by applying hazard analysis techniques. However, due to the complex, highly interconnected, heterogeneous, and collaborative nature of CCPS, a fault in one CPS's components can trigger many other faults in other collaborating CPSs. Therefore, a safety assurance technique based on fault criticality analysis would require to ensure safety in CCPS. This paper presents a Fault Criticality Matrix (FCM) implemented in our tool called CPSTracer, which contains several data such as identified fault, fault criticality, safety guard, etc. The proposed FCM is based on composite hazard analysis and content-based relationships among the hazard analysis artifacts, and ensures that the safety guard controls the identified faults at design time; thus, we can effectively manage and control the fault at the design phase to ensure the safe development of CPSs. To justify our approach, we introduce a case study on the Platooning system (a collaborative CPS). We perform the criticality analysis of the Platooning system using FCM in our developed tool. After the detailed fault criticality analysis, we investigate the results to check the appropriateness and effectiveness with two research questions. Also, by performing simulation for the Platooning, we showed that the rate of collision of the Platooning system without using FCM was quite high as compared to the rate of collisions of the system after analyzing the fault criticality using FCM.
