  • New material applications and transparency are desired by contemporary architects. Its superb transparency and high strength make glass a very suitable building material -in spite of its brittleness- even for primary load bearing structures. Currently we will focus on load bearing glass beams, subjected to different loading types. Since glass beams have a very slender, rectangular cross section, they are sensitive to lateral torsional buckling. Glass beams fail under a critical buckling load at stresses that lie far below the theoretical simple bending strength, due to the complex combination of torsion and out-of-plane bending, which characterises the instability phenomenon. The critical load can be increased considerably by preventing the upper rim from moving out of the beam's plane. Different boundary conditions are examined for different loading types. The load carrying capacity of glass beams can be increased three times and more using relatively simple, cheap lateral restraints.

  • YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$(YBCO) coated conductors were deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on short buffered substrate in continuous PLD reel-to-reel system. The oxide multilayer buffered substrate of architectures of CeO$_2$/YSZ/Y$_2$O$_3$was fabricated by PLD at steady status. The degree of texture of each layer was investigated using X-ray diffraction including $\theta$-2$\theta$ scans, $\omega$-scans and $\Phi$-scans analysis. Their surface morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) The FWHM of the X-ray $\omega$-scans and $\Phi$-scans indicated that YBCO and buffer layers closely replicate the in-plane and out-of-plane texture of metal tape. Critical current at 77K self-field of 19A, critical temperature of 86K, and current density of 2MA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ were measured. The film also exhibits a homogeneous and dense surface morphology.e morphology.

  • We report a successful fabrication of high-$J_C$ $NdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (NdBCO) films on (100) $SrTiO_3$ substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) in high oxygen pressures ranging from 400 to 800 mTorr. Fabricated NdBCO films exhibited only c-axis orientation, good out-of-plane and in-plane textures, and also excellent superconducting properties, including critical temperature ($T_C$) and critical current density ($J_C$) of above 90 K and the highest of $3.1MA/cm^2$ at 77 K in self-field, implying that NdBCO is a perspective alternative to YBCO for coated conductor. In low oxygen pressures ranging from 100 to 200 mTorr, however, the films showed a-, c-mixed orientation and degraded $T_{C,zero}$ values due to the formation of $Nd_{1+x}Ba_{2-x}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$-type solid solutions with an excessive substitution of $Nd^{3+}$ ions for the $Ba^{2+}$ sites.

  • The stability and resistance of the plates under in-plane loading is crucial in the design of structures. For the assessment of structural stability, it is necessarily required to have accurate finite element technologies. Therefore, the enhanced 9-node plate (Q9-ANS) element is introduced for the linear buckling analysis of plate where the critical buckling load has to be determined. The Q9-ANS is developed with the Reissner-Mindlin (RM) assumptions which consider transverse shear deformation of the plate. Assumed shear strain is used to alleviate the shear locking phenomenon. Numerical examples are carried out to verify the performance of the Q9-ANS element in calculation of critical buckling load of the plates.

  • A Parametric study is numerically carried out for flow fields in a two-dimensional plane channel with thin obstacles(“baffles and blocks”) mounted symmetrically in the vertical direction and periodically in the streamwise direction. The aim of this investigation is to understand how various geometric conditions influence the critical characteristics and pressure drop. A range of BR(the ratio of baffle interval to channel height) between 1 and 5 is considered. Especially when BR is equal to 3, for which the critical Reynolds number turned out to be minimal, we add blocks in the center region in order to study their destabilizing effects on the flows. It is revealed that the critical Reynolds number is further decreased by the presence of the block.

  • Flow fields in two-dimensional plane channels with thin obstacles("baffles and blocks") mounted symmetrically in the vertical direction and periodically in the streamwise direction are studied numerically to understand how various geometric conditions influence the critical Reynolds number and pressure drop. Changing BR(the ratio of channel to baffle interval) from 1:1 to 1.5, we computed the critical Reynolds number and pressure drop. Especially when BR is 1:3, at which the critical Reynolds number turned out to be minimal, we added blocks in the geometry in order to study their destabiliting effects on the flows.

  • Recently, a lot of work and interest have been devoted to the development of multiaxial fatigue parameters for fretting fatigue life prediction. In this study, the fretting fatigue lift and critical location ware estimated and evaluated through the multiaxial fatigue theories in a cylinder-on-flat contact configuration far Cr-Mo steel, SCM420, the material commonly is used in gears of the automobile and rollers of the conveyor. The strain-life curve was obtained from fatigue test for SCM420. The Fretting fatigue life and critical location were estimated through stress distributions, SWT-parameters and FS-parameters obtained from FEA. This paper showed possibility of applying multiaxial fatigue theories to fretting fatigue lift prediction comparing predicted life with experimental results.

  • A wrinkling is the instability phenomenon influenced by material properties, shape geometry, forming conditions, stress state, etc. The wrinkling is considered as a critical defect in appearance of product. Many wrinkling prediction methods using thickness strain distribution and farming analysis have been proposed. The wrinkling, however, is not easily predicted precisely by these methods. In this study, the region in the biaxial plane stress state is modeled with a rectangular plate introducing the effective dimension, and critical stress values for the wrinkling are calculated. Prediction index for the wrinkling is then evaluated by normalizing the actual stress with respect to the critical stress. In order to show the validity and efficiency of the method proposed, the wrinkling prediction for a squared sheet in the uniaxial tensile stress and auto-body front finder panel is performed.

  • In this paper, the effects of irregular bead shapes on fatigue life were investigated. A modified S-N curve method was used to estimate the fatigue life, which considered the inherent multiaxiality caused by the geometrical feature produced by the welding process. The point method of the critical distance method was used to determine the fatigue effective stress. Three types of fillet joint models were tested in the fatigue experiments. For each model, real bead shapes were collected using a 3D laser scanner, and finite element analyses were performed. The results of the analyses with actual bead shapes were compared with those using an idealized bead shape model. The results of the present analytical methods showed good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Critical multi-field loads and free vibration responses of the sandwich piezoelectric/piezomagnetic microplate subjected to combination of magnetoelectromechanical loads based on a thickness-stretched higher order shear deformable model using Hamilton's principle. The lateral displacement is assumed summation of bending, shearing and stretching functions. The elasti core is sandwiched by a couple of piezoelectric/piezomagnetic face-sheets subjected to electromagnetocmechanical loads. The work of external force is calculated with considering the in-plane mechanical, electrical and magnetic loads based on piezomagnetoelasticity relations. The critical multi field loading and natural frequency analysis are performed to investigate influence of geometric and loading parameters on the responses. A verification is performed for justification of the numerical results.
