  • This paper, introduces a Stochastic Project Scheduling Simulation system (SPSS III) developed by the author to predict a project completion probability in a certain time. The system integrates deterministic CPM, probabilistic PERT, and stochastic Discrete Event Simulation (DES) scheduling methods into one system. It implements automated statistical analysis methods for computing the minimum number of simulation runs, the significance of the difference between independent simulations, and the confidence interval for the mean project duration as well as sensitivity analysis method in What-if analyzer component. The SPSS 111 gives the several benefits to researchers in that it (1) complements PERT and Monte Carlo simulation by using stochastic activity durations via a web based JAVA simulation over the Internet, (2) provides a way to model a project network having different probability distribution functions, (3) implements statistical analyses method which enable to produce a reliable prediction of the probability of completing a project in a specified time, and (4) allows researchers to compare the outcome of CPM, PERT and DES under different variability or skewness in the activity duration data.

  • As the minimum feature size decreases, it is more difficult to control critical contaminant particles. For 16GB flash memory introduced by Samsung a few months ago, 50nm process was used and in this case, contaminant particles as small as 25nm should be control led. The particle beam mass spectrometer (PBMS) was developed to directly sample particles at pressures down to 100 mtorr. This instrument is sensitive to small particles (>5nm) produced in low concentrations ($>20cm^{-3}$). The PBMS has proved to be effect ive in measuring particles generated during semi-conductor fabrication processes, such as low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) of thin films. The operating principle of the PBMS and some measurement results are reviewed in this paper.

  • Safety requirements for aircraft and system functions include minimum performance constraints for both availability and integrity of the function. These safety requirements should be determined by conducting a safety assessment. The depths and contents of aircraft system safety assessment vary depending on factors such as the complexity of the system, how critical the system is to flight safety, what volume of experience is available on the type of system and the novelty and complexity of the technologies being used. Requirements that are defined to prevent failure conditions or to provide safety related functions should be uniquely identified and traceable through the levels of development. This will ensure visibility of the safety requirements at the software and electronic hardware design level. This paper has prepared to study on promoting the efficiency of establishing hierarchical safety requirements from aircraft level function to item level through system safety processes.

  • Average pressure in a pipe network is one of critical factors to estimate the flow distribution and to calculate UARL (Unavoidable Annual Real Losses) value in ILI (Infrastructure Leakage Index). While its collection period and measuring location are essential to obtain average pressure, their standard method have not been established so far. In this study, proper method including its procedure for data collection period and measuring point for average pressure were suggested using non-exceedance probability concept in the water distribution network.

  • The primary purpose of this paper is to analyze the membership of fishing community. In order to become a member of fishing community, some conditions are needed both the member of local fisheries cooperatives and resident of fishing village. Generally, many fishing communities have additional conditions such as to be a member of fishing community that is a minimum term of residence, an entrance fee, fishing abilities. These additional conditions play a critical role in making a relationship, building trust and enhancing fairness. However, the setting of excessive additional conditions make it possible to obstruct growth of fishing community.

  • In this study, the geometric design parameters of ejector system were investigated. The critical parameters were primary nozzle area ratio, 2nd-throat cross sectional area and 2nd-throat L/D ratio. At every geometry cases, primary pressure and secondary pressure were measured simultaneously according to secondary mass flow rate. From the results, the ejector starting pressure, unstarting pressure and minimum secondary flow pressure were found and we got the effect of geometric parameters to ejector performance and the way to optimal design of ejector system for chemical lasers operating. Also the experiments of changing secondary flow temperature were carried out.

  • Measurement of the absolute displacement of the moving machinery components in three-dimensions (3D) is of critical functional importance. This paper describes the system that measures motion associated with six degrees-of-freedom in 3D. Wire-sensors are used to estimate the positions of an object in a 3D Cartesian coordinate system, based on the values of their initial position and the measured values. For inducing the transfer function, which represents the motion of an object, the number of the minimum measurement points is determined. Also, the experimental measuring device is configured to visualize the behavior of a rectangular object in real-time. The software for measuring the six types of motions is directly programmed using a commercial software.

  • The pressure distributions in the test stand built for developing KSTAR NBI ion sources were obtained using a network system composed of conductance elements modeling the ion source, the neutralizer, and other beam line components. The allowable regime was defined on the coordinates of the gas supply rate to the ion source and the neutralizer, considering the proper conditions of the three critical parameters, the ion source pressure for good arc discharge, the pressure integral in the neutralizer for sufficient neutralization, and the chamber pressure for minimum neutral beam loss. The neutral beam evolution along the path from the ion source extraction grid to the calorimeter through the neutralizer, the bending magnet and the vacuum chamber was estimated for typical pressure distributions.

  • Forming mechanism of fibrous TiC during self-propagating high temperature synthetic reaction was analyzed and suggested. It was revealed that critical temperature for the stable fiber formation was not the melting point of TiC, but the eutectic reaction temperature of TiC and C. Minimum amount of TiC diluent addition required to form fibers was calculated to be 25.6%, which was consistent with the experimental result. Synthesized fibers were found hollow tube-like. The morphology was explained by the diffusion rates of C and Ti in TiC, and by the molar volume chnage of C during the reaction. Expanding shell model was suggested for the hollow fiber formation mechanism.

  • Aqueous extracts of garlic (Allium sativum) preparation were prepared after the samples were exposed to various heat treatments. A quantitative assessment of antimicrobial activities was carried out by determining the minimum inhibitory and microbicidal concentrations (MICs and MMCs) of the various extracts against some selected bacteria and fungi. The antimicrobial activity of garlic decreased as the heating temperature increased. This fact implies that alliinase may be the most critical rate-determinant to produce the activity when garlic is heated.
