The development of overload management systems for distribution transformers offers new opportunities for improving the reliability of distribution systems. It allows network planners to optimize the system resource utilization and investment cost. Such an improvement in the flexibility of the distribution network is only possible if the operator has more accurate knowledge of the realtime conditions of distribution transformers. In this paper, we present an improved overload decision system for distribution transformers using realtime monitoring data. Our study can be categorized into two parts: (a) improvement in the criteria for judging the overload conditions of distribution transformers and (b) development of an overload evaluation system using realtime monitoring data. In order to determine the overload criteria, overload experiments are performed on sample transformers; the results of these experiments are used to define the relationship between the transformer overload and the increase in the top-oil temperature. To verify the accuracy of the experimental results, field tests are performed using specially manufactured transformers, the loads and top-oil temperatures of which can be measured. For arriving at online overload decisions, we propose methods whereby the measured load curve can be converted into an overload characteristic curve and the overload time can be calculated for any load condition. The developed system is able to evaluate the overload for individual distribution transformers and calculate the losses using realtime monitoring data.
Utilities are trying to install the equipment of high quality to avoid deterioration of supply reliability. In addition, many sectionalizing switches which can decrease the total outage value for a fault are installed for the same reason. Therefore, utilities are interested in stun dards and criteria for installing switches to optimize the total cost on distribution systems. The affect of sectionalizing switches installed on distribution feeder is gradually decreased because the failure rate on distribution feeder is decreased. Also the automation for distribution systems is widely applied for the efficient operation. Therefore, the renewal for installation standards of sectionalizing switches Is required to reflect the current operation situation. The variable data is used to consider the KEPCO's real situation of distribution feeder as follows; the feeder capacity, connecting rate, feeder length, failure rate of distribution feeder, the failure rate of switches, perception time of feeder fault, the restoration time for a faulted section, the transfer time to other feeders, and the switching time. In this study, We propose equations which can determine the number of sectionalizing switches for minimizing the outage and switch installation cost.

We develop parametric bootstrap model selection criteria in an example to fit a random sample to either a general normal distribution or a normal distribution with prespecified mean. We apply the bootstrap methods in two ways; one considers the direct substitution of estimated parameter for the unknown parameter, and the other focuses on the bias correction. These bootstrap model selection criteria are compared with AIC. We illustrate that all the selection rules reduce to the one sample t-test, where the cutoff points converge to some certain points as the sample size increases.
Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) supports a decision-making process such as establishment of environmental quality criteria. Soil quality criteria (SQC) are essential to protect soil organisms from the exposure to various soil contaminants. In this study, ERA methodologies of advanced countries for soil pollution were extensively compared to propose the ERA approach suitable for soil ecosystem in Korea. The soil ERAs in European Chemical Bureau(ECB), The Netherlands, and Canada can be classified as deterministic ecological risk assessment (DERA), and probabilistic ecological risk assessment (PERA) based on species sensitivity distribution (SSD). We propose three ERA methods according to abundance and reliability of soil ecotoxicity data. The method considered land use such as residential/agricultural, and industrial/commercial uses. The taxonomic groups of soil organism were classified as 'Class' level including different trophic levels (Magnoliopsida or Liliopsida, Clitellata, and Insecta or Secernentea). This study can be used to estimate the soil quality criteria to protect soil biota.
An accurate determination of wind speed distribution is the basis for an evaluation of the wind energy potential required to design a wind turbine, so it is important to estimate unknown parameters of wind speed distribution. In this paper, Gumbel distribution is used in modelling wind speed data, and alternative robust estimation methods to estimate its parameters are considered. The methodologies used to obtain the estimators of the parameters are least absolute deviation, weighted least absolute deviation, median/MAD and least median of squares. The performances of the estimators are compared with traditional estimation methods (i.e., maximum likelihood and least squares) according to bias, mean square deviation and total mean square deviation criteria using a Monte-Carlo simulation study for the data with and without outliers. The simulation results show that least median of squares and median/MAD estimators are more efficient than others for data with outliers in many cases. However, median/MAD estimator is not consistent for location parameter of Gumbel distribution in all cases. In real data application, it is firstly demonstrated that Gumbel distribution fits the daily mean wind speed data well and is also better one to model the data than Weibull distribution with respect to the root mean square error and coefficient of determination criteria. Next, the wind data modified by outliers is analysed to show the performance of the proposed estimators by using numerical and graphical methods.

When a neutral particle beam(NPB) aimed at the object and receive a small number of neutron signals at the detector without any errors, it obeys Poisson law. Under the two assumptions that neutral particle scattering distribution and aiming errors have a circular Gaussian distributions that neutral particle scattering distribution and aiming errors have a circular Gaussian distribution respectively, an exact probability distribution of neutral particles vecomes a Poisson-power function distribution. We study and prove some properties, such as limiting distribution, unimodality, stochastical ordering, computational recursion fornula, of this distribution. We also prove monotone likelihood ratio(MLR) property of this distribution. Its MLR property can be used to find a criteria for the hypothesis testing problem.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the types of the usable space and its areal distribution for the sake of analogizing the planning criteria to be established when the elementary school is renovated. This study has been progressed with reference to the analysis of the drawings, situation analysis through the visiting, and materials of each elementary schools. As a result, the types of the usable space and its areal distribution of each school are different. So, it is an urgent problem what criteria are established on the types of the usable space and its areal distribution when the elementary school is renovated.
Experimental and theoretical works were performed for the separation of large polyelectrolyte, such as DNA, in a column packed with gel particles under the influence of an electric field. Since DNA quickly orient in the field direction through the pores, this paper presents how intraparticle convection affects the residence time distribution of DNAs in the column. The concept is further illustrated with examples from solid -liquid systems, for example, from chromatography Showing how the column efficiency is improved by the use of a n electric field. Dimensionless transient mass balance equations were derived, taking into consideration both diffusion and electrophoretic convection. The separation criteria are theoretically studied using two different Peclet numbers in the fluid and solid phases. These criteria were experimentally verified using two different DNAs via electrophoretic mobility measurements. which showed how the separation position of the DNAs varies in the column in relation to the Peg/Pef values of an individual DNA. The residence time distribution was solved by an operator theory and the characteristic method to yield the column response.
This paper presents the analysis of the load transfer capacity and study of conductor size for variable contingencies in distribution systems. The operation capacity of feeders was changed to improve operation efficiency in KEPCO, considerations for contingencies are still based on the previous capacity. In order to cope with the changes such as operation capacity, it is necessary to study whether the present "contingency support criteria" is reasonable or not, also to confirm the whether the present criteria should be improved or not. We analyze the load transfer capacity and conductor size on a distribution system for contingency levels such as the substation-level, bank-level, feeder-level, and zone-level.one-level.
