Reconfiguration of the Comprehensive Suitability Values and Suitability Grading Method for the Land Suitability Assessment (토지적성평가에 있어서 종합적성값 산정과 적성등급 부여방법의 문제점과 개선방향)

  • Land suitability assessment(LSA) is a useful method to assess land characteristics according to its physical, locational, and environmental characteristics, and then to classify it into several categories based on its usability and the necessity for conservation. Therefore, the credibility of this assessment result depends on the rationality of assessment method such as computation of suitability values and the criteria of ranking the land grade. This study focused on identifying problems in current LSA method by critically reviewing it, and aimed to suggest a suitable method for the assessment of land suitability. As a alternative method in this study, linear transformation method was used for scoring factors instead of critical values and the weight for each assessment factor. and all values of those factors were added to produce comprehensive suitability values. Those values were ordered and categorizied with suitability level based on the ratio of square measure. After comparing existing LSA method to the suggested alternative method, it is concluded that the alternative method was more suitable to assess the characteristics of lands than existing LSA method. This method was also suitable to represent the characteristics of various assessment factors. Field survey using satellite image clearly revealed the suitability of the alternative method compared to an existing method of land assessment. Furthermore, the alternative method of grading the land suitability improves the problem of using standardiZiation method and gives more flexibility, which makes this method very rational.

A Study on the Development of an Estimation Model: The Psychological Cost of Traffic Accidents (교통사고의 심리적 비용 산정모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This dissertation studied the psychological cost, which converted the mental pain suffered by the victim of a traffic accident and his/her family, friends and people around him/her into social costs. Three methodologies - Choice Experiments, Direct Question and Dichotomous Choice Question - were used to design questionnaires, and models were built for each questionnaire design method. When building models, a logit model was used, which is used most frequently in probabilistic choice model. And the tobitmodel was used to make direct questionnaires. When verifying these models, although there were some differences in each model, suitability of most models and credibility of each coefficient were meaningful around the credibility level of 95%. According to the analysis, domestic psychological cost produced through the assessment model of psychological cost was 15.63 million won per person or 5.1 trillion in total, assuming 37.1% of total traffic accident cost.

A Comparative Evaluation of Drug Information Databases in Korea (국내 의약품 정보 데이터베이스의 비교 평가)

  • Recently, the use of electronic drug information databases has been increased alternative to printed references. However, databases vary widely in quality and quantity of drug information provided and many questions have arisen about their accuracy, completeness, and reliability. This study was designed to compare and evaluate the drug information contained in four Korean drug information databases which are available on CD-ROM and internet. Four Korean drug information databases selected to be evaluated were eKIMS, Datapower, KPA Standard Drug Information and Korean Drug Formulary. Databases were searched and evaluated from August 10 to September 30, 2000 by the same trained searcher to minimize the bias. The database evaluation form was developed for objective evaluation of each databases in terms of credibility of database, convenience of use and other characteristics. The second form was developed for quantitative and qualitative assessment of the drug information provided by the databases. The results of the study showed that there were no significant differences in 4 databases in terms of convenience of use and other characteristics. However, for credibility of databases, Korean Drug Formulary was significantly superior to all other databases (P<0.05). It showed that information provided by Korean Drug Formulary was the best in terms of pharmacokinetics, chemistry, comparisons and eKIMS was the best in terms of drug identification (P<0.05). For accuracy and completeness of information provided, the study could not find a significant difference between 4 databases (P>0.05).

Review the Possibility of Replacing the Converted Accident Ratio with the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Balance Ratio (환산재해율을 산재보험수지율로의 대체 가능성 검토 연구)

  • This study examined the possibility of applying the industrial accident insurance balance ratio to the calculation of the converted accident ratio in the credibility assessment of the PQ. Some correlations between the industrial accident insurance balance ratio and the converted accident ratio were found in the general tendency, however, there were no significant correlations between the two in the individual companies. Therefore, this study came to the conclusion that it is not appropriate to directly apply the industrial accident insurance balance ratio to the calculation of the converted accident ratio.

  • This study investigated a total of 529 integrated science teachers' implementation and changes to apply the curriculum-instruction-assessment. Data was collected through online survey on scientific competencies and skills, teaching-learning and assessment methods, changes of teacher's preparation, topics/materials, teaching-learning, and assessment to apply the curriculum-instruction-assessment as teaching integrated science. The results of the study were as follows: first, in the integrated science class, teachers implemented more on scientific communication and scientific inquiry among scientific core competencies, and analysis and interpretation of data collection and communication among scientific skills. Teachers often taught in lectures and used multiple choice items and short essay for evaluation. Teacher groups with less than 10 years of teaching experience appeared to be less active in teaching scientific core competencies and skills than those with more than 10 years. Second, Teachers have increased more time and efforts to search and to organize various materials in addition to textbooks, and try to integrated concepts in various fields to prepare learning topics and textbooks. Third, even though teachers made little change in implementing the process-oriented assessment, they used instructional strategies to increase student engagement in the integrated science class, restructured the instruction to provide immediate feedback after conducting the assessment. It is necessary to build a system that ensures fairness and credibility of evaluation while respecting the autonomy and professionalism of teachers.

  • In this research, life cycle inventory database (LCI DB) was developed for elastomeric bearing employing life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology additionally the reliability improvement rate in the evaluation of the environmental load of the bridge was analyzed. As are result of impact assessment by 6 major impact categories, production of elastomeric bearing puts on environmental impact in the order of resource depletion, global warming, photochemical oxidant creation. and among a wide variety of input, steel plates contributes in most of the impact categories. As a result of applying the elastomeric bearing LCI database constructed in this study, the environmental loads increased by 0.53% on average, and the cut-off based on the cost of input materials increased by 11.36%. It is anticipated that it will be possible to improve the credibility and to provide data based on current production technology, such as estimating GHG emissions and evaluating environmental load, by constructing elastomeric bearing LCI DB.

  • This study aims to investigate and practically examine the effect of environmental qualifications based on the theoretical background on the area. On the basis of theoretical background, a study model was formulated in a way that the effect of qualifications in enterprises side is divided into an economic effect (improvement of productivity, improvement of qualifies of products) and non-economic effect (credibility on the job, expertise on techniques, assessment criteria on entrepreneurial value, applicability of job arrangement). Then, survey was carried out with questions designed in accordance with this model. The hypotheses were proved as the following. First, fir hypothesis 1(Environmental qualifications will bring up positive impacts on the economic effect of enterprises), it turned out to be true. The improvement of productivity and qualities of products were chose to represent the economic effect of entrepreneurs, and the both factors appeared to have positive impacts on the economic effect of enterprises. Second, for hypothesis 2(Environmental qualifications will have positive impacts on the non-economic effect of enterprises), it turned out to be true. Environmental qualifications were proved to have positive impacts on credibility on the job, expertise on techniques, assessment criteria on entrepreneurial value, applicability of job arrangement, which were introduced to represent the non-economic effect of enterprises. In conclusion, environmental qualifications were proved to have positive impacts on both economic and non-economic effect of enterprises.

  • The study aims to develop a assessment tool to provide the in-home disabled in a local community with appropriate services in consideration of physical, emotional, social and environmental circumstances. After collection of assesment data of 200 in-home disabled through use of the tool, a desire-extracting algorithm was developed to provide a service to real needs through the use of decision tree analysis on data mining. The study was conducted for Five months from June 2006 through October 2006, and it is divided into development of an assessment tool and extraction of real needs through the use of the tool. The basic framework of the development of the tool was established through the examination of related literature, the subjective satisfaction of the assessment tool and items were developed through the use of a focus group and experts, and verification was implemented through the use of statistics to confirm the validity of the tool.     • As we see the continuation of the increase in the speed of the High Speed railroad worldwide, there is a concern for a possible problem in the connecting transition zone in the railway infrastructure. Honam High Speed railroad's transition zone in the hub for the rotation structures and other supporting structures such as approach slab, sub slab, approach block, etc. Due to its increase in speed of the design speed, and its important role on the driving stability and credibility of the bearing ground performance, we must seek and fine a prevention plan for a cause of differential settlement, as well as the cause of the derailment. In this dissertation, domestic, as well as international design manuals and the applicability of the control standards are studied. Also through the study target, Honam High Speed railroad zone 4-1, we evaluated the connecting componant of the Yeon-Jeong bridge through the eigenvalue and weight transfer of the train when operated at 300km/h, 350km/h, 400km/h, 450km/h, and were able to achieve detailed assessment by checking track behaviors, looking at various components such as the rotation acceleration according to the inversion of the distance length, displace length, displacement and stress distribution. Through these studied, possibility of operating at 400km/h was evaluated based on the condition of the current design basis.

    Verification, Validation, and Accreditation (VV&A) Considering Military and Defense Characteristics

    • In this paper, we identify the characteristics of modeling and simulation (M&S) for military and defense and propose the method of verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) using the identified characteristics. M&S has been widely used for many different applications in military and defense, including training, analysis, and acquisition. Various methods and processes of VV&A have been proposed by researchers and M&S practitioners to guarantee the correctness of M&S. The notion of applying formal credibility assessment in VV&A originated in software engineering reliability testing and the systems engineering development process. However, the VV&A techniques and processes proposed for M&S by the research community have not addressed the characteristics and issues specific to military and defense. We first identify the characteristics and issues of military/defense M&S and then propose techniques and methods for VV&A that are specific for military/defense M&S. Possible approaches for the development of VV&A are also proposed.
