In this study, the three-dimensional finite element method is used to determine the stress intensity factor in Mode I and Mixed mode of a centered crack in an aluminum specimen repaired by a composite patch using contour integral. Various mesh densities were used to achieve convergence of the results. The effect of adhesive joint thickness, patch thickness, patch-specimen interface and layer sequence on the SIF was highlighted. The results obtained show that the patch-specimen contact surface is the best indicator of the deceleration of crack propagation, and hence of SIF reduction. Thus, the reduction in rigidity of the patch especially at adhesive layer-patch interface, allows the lowering of shear and normal stresses in the adhesive joint. The choice of the orientation of the adhesive layer-patch contact is important in the evolution of the shear and peel stresses. The patch will be more beneficial and effective while using the cross-layer on the contact surface.

The strength evaluation of the most weakest junction part is required for the safety design of all structures. Most of all. in order to enhance the reliability and safety of the welding part. whose use is the highest, it is very important to establish the efficient structure manufacturing technology by studying and investigating the evaluation of fatigue strength in various environments. This study analyzed the relations of da/dN, and th according to the welding methods of SMAW, FCAW, and SAW. In the stage II. the value of stress intensity factor range was the highest in SMAW welding method of stress ration R=0.1, and appeared under the sequence of FCAW and SAW and as the completion section of stress intensity factor was low, threshold stress intensity factor was lowly formed in da/dN - The fatigue life of each welding method is sensitively worked in high stress ratio. judging from the fact that the width of life reduction increases in the high stress ratio zone compared to the width of life reduction in the low stress ratio zone. In the fatigue limit of welding methods before corrosion. the welding of SMAW and FCAW shows the same fatigue limit compared to Base metal, and SAW holds the lowest fatigue limit value.

Non-destructive tests are commonly used in construction industry to access the quality and strength of concrete. However, till date there is no non-destructive testing method that can be adopted to evaluate the bond condition of reinforced concrete beams. In this regard, the presented research work details the use of ultra-sonic pulse velocity test method to evaluate the bond condition of reinforced concrete beam. A detailed experimental research was conducted by testing four identical reinforced concrete beam samples. The samples were loaded in equal increments till failure and ultra-sonic pulse velocity readings were recorded along the length of the beam element. It was observed from experimentation that as the cracks developed in the sample, the ultra-sonic wave velocity reduced for the same path length. This reduction in wave velocity was used to identify the initiation, development and propagation of internal micro-cracks along the length of reinforcement. Using the developed experimental methodology, researchers were able to identify weak spots in bond along the length of the specimen. The proposed method can be adopted by engineers to access the quality of bond for steel reinforcement in beam members. This allows engineers to carryout localized repairs thereby resulting in reduction of time, cost and labor needed for strengthening. Furthermore, the methodology to apply the proposed technique in real-world along with various challenges associated with its application have also been highlighted.
The mechanical strengths of buried lamellar tears located near the weld toe in the welded tee joints were evaluated in terms of the loss of load carrying capacity as a function of tear area. In static loading, the load carrying capacity was significantly reduced when tear intercepted over 10% of the cross-sectional area of the welded joints. However, the welded joints containing buried tears still failed at stresses over the yield strength of the base metal in the through-thickness direction in spite of the presence of tears up to 20-25% of the area. Fatigue strength of welded joints containing tears markedly reduced with increasing tear areas. Lehigh lamellar tearing test used in this study to produce speicmens was described in detail. The load carrying cpapacity in static loading was influenced by the reduction of supporting area whereas that in fatigue loading was influenced by the stress-concentration effects of lamellar tears and the reduction of supporting area. In bend tests, the pre-existing lamellar tears always grew up toward the weld toe. However, in fatigue loading, cracks grew up and down simultaneously form both the weld toe and the top of lamellar tears because of stress concentration. In fatigue loading, delaminations and decohesion of inclusion/matrix interface generated in multipass welds provided crack propagation paths and enhanced crack propagation because the tips of delaminations and deconhesios acted as stress raisers.
This study evaluated the mechanical performance, shrinkage crack and fire resistance of hybrid fiber (blended steel and polypropylene fiber with different diameter and length) reinforced concrete at elevated temperature. The compressive, splitting tensile, flexural, plastic shrinkage test were conducted to the evaluate the mechanical properties and the resistance of shrinkage crack. Also, the surface investigation, reduction rate of mass and residual compressive test were performed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties after 400$^{\circ}C$, 600$^{\circ}C$, 800$^{\circ}C$ and 1,200$^{\circ}C$ exposure. Test results showed that the hybrid fiber reinforced concrete improved the mechanical performance, shrinkage crack and fire resistance. The reduction of performance with a temperature change were high at the temperature of $600\sim800^{\circ}C$.

The Cu-bearing PFS-700 steel which has yield strength over 700 MPa was developed to replace the existing submarine structural material, HY-100. PFS-700 steel has good combination of mechanical properties and superior weldability which can be welded without pre-heating before welding. Application PFS-700 steel to submarine or battle ship will give a great reduction of cost by removing or lowing pre-heating. To develop pre-heat free welding consumables that matches and take advantage of PFS-700 steel, new welding consumables have been designed for the GMAW, SAW processes and explosion bulge test(EBT) were conducted to see the reliability of welded structure. All welding was conducted without pre-heating before welding, the inter-pass temperatures were below $50^{\circ}C$ for SAW50 and $150^{\circ}C$ for GMAW and SAW150. All EBT specimens show over 14% reduction of thickness without through-thickness crack or propagation of crack to the hole-down area. Tensile properties for all welding conditions show higher(GMAW) or similar values(SAW50, SAW150) to the base metal. Charpy impact values for the weld metal also show 163.5J(GMAW), 95.4J(SAW50) and 69.0J(SAW150), which meet the goal, 50J, of this project.

Fretting damage reduces fatigue life of the material due to low amplitude cyclic sliding and changes in the contact surfaces of strongly connected machine and structures such as bolt, key, fixed rivet and connected shaft, which have relative slip of repeatedly very low frequency amplitude. In this study, the fretting fatigue behavior of 7050-T7451 aluminum alloys used mainly in aircraft and automobile industry were evaluated. The plain fatigue test and fretting fatigue test under cyclic bending load carried out commercial bending fatigue tester and specially devised equipments to cause fretting damage. From these experimental work, the following results obtained: (1) The plain fatigue limit for stress ratio R=-l was about 151MPa. (2) In case of fretting fatigue, fatigue limit for stress ratio R=-l about 72MPa, the fatigue limit for R=0 about 81MPa, and the fatigue limit for R=0.3 about 93MPa. (3) The fatigue limit reduction rates by the fretting damage were about 52%(R=-1), 46%(R=0) and 38%(R=0.3) respectively. (4) The fatigue limit reduction rate decreased with stress ratio increase. In fretting bending test, as stress ratio increased, occurrence of initial oblique crack by fretting decreased or phased out, so that fracture surfaces were formed by plain fatigue crack occurrence, and such tendency was notable as stress amplitude increased. (5) Tire tracks and rubbed scars were observed in the fracture surface and contacted surface.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the crack reduction performance of blast furnace slag concrete mixed with expansive and swelling admixtures. As a basic performance test, various ingredients such as blast furnace slag fine powder (BFS), calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA), bentonite, and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) were used, and the results showed that bentonite showed superior performance compared to HPMC. Afterwards, a MOCK-UP test was conducted to evaluate cracking and drying shrinkage according to the mixing ratio. As a result, when bentonite and a small amount of calcium phosphate were added, drying shrinkage was reduced and cracking was reduced. In particular, a cement mixture consisting of 30 % BFS, 1 % bentonite, and 1 % calcium phosphate showed optimal crack-free performance. It is believed that BFS concrete will contribute to compensating for shrinkage through continuous expansion activity and can be used for field applications.

This research delves into the fabrication of an ultra-high-strength concrete, enriched with oxidized graphene nanoplatelet(GO) and hollow glass powder(HGP), notably eschewing the conventional inclusion of silica fume(SF). The primary objective was to scrutinize the autogenous shrinkage characteristics of this innovative formulation. It was discerned that the NewMix specimen, which incorporated the cGO(sourced from Company C) and HGP, and intentionally bypassed SF, showcased a commendable 13% reduction in autogenous shrinkage relative to the benchmark(Ref) specimenthat incorporated SF. Moreover, the proclivity for crack formation owing to autogenous shrinkage in the NewMix was observed to manifested by NewMix at the juncture of cracking emerged as the apex value. Attributed to the expansive specific surface area and exemplary dispersibility of cGO, it was postulated that the concrete's pore structure benefitted from enhanced infill, leading to a reduction in autogenous shrinkage. Additionally, the cGO integration fortified the concrete's resistance to crack initiation. Consequently, such an enhancement is posied to be pivotal in mitigating crack propagation resulting from autogenous shrinkage in ultra-high-strength concrete.
