We propose a method using the genetic algorithm to solve the maximum set cover problem. It is needed for scheduling the power of sensor nodes in extending the lifetime of the wireless sensor network with variable sensing range. The existing Greedy Heuristic method calculates the power scheduling of sensor nodes repeatedly in the process of operation, and so the communication traffic of sensor nodes is increased. The proposed method reduces the amount of communication traffic of sensor nodes, and so the energies of nodes are saved, and the lifetime of network can be extended. The effectiveness of this method was verified through computer simulation, and considering the energy losses of communication operations about 10% in the network lifetime is improved.
A large number of phone calls and data services will take place in indoor environments. In Long Term Evolution (LTE), femtocell, as a home base station for indoor coverage extension and wideband data service, has recently gained significant interests from operators and consumers. Since femtocell is frequently turned on and off by a personal owner, not by a network operator, one of the key issues is that femtocell should be identified autonomously without system information to support handover from macrocell to femtocell. In this paper, we propose a dynamic reservation scheme of Physical Cell Identities (PCI) for 3GPP LTE femtocell systems. There are several reserving types, and each type reserves a different number of PCIs for femtocell. The transition among the types depends on the deployed number of femtocells, or the number of PCI confusion events. Accordingly, flexible use of PCIs can decrease PCI confusion. This reduces searching time for femtocell, and it is helpful for the quick handover from macrocell to femtocell. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme reduces average delay for identifying detected cells, and increases network capacity within equal delay constraints.

Osborne-Cotterill lesion is an osteochondral fracture located in the posterolateral margin of the humeral capitellum, which may be associated with a defect of the radial head after an elbow dislocation. This lesion causes instability by affecting the lateral ulnar collateral ligament over its capitellar insertion, which is associated with a residual capsular laxity, thereby leading to poor coverage of the radial head, and hence resulting in frequent dislocations. We present a 54-year-old patient, a physician who underwent trauma of the left elbow after falling from a bike and suffered a posterior dislocation fracture of the elbow. The patient subsequently presented episodes of instability, and additional work-up studies diagnosed the occurrence of Osborne-Cotterill lesion. An open reduction and internal fixation of the bony lesion was performed, with reinsertion of the lateral ligamentous complex. Three months after surgery, the patient was asymptomatic, having a flexion of 130° and extension of 0°, and resumed his daily activities without any limitation. Currently, the patient remains asymptomatic 2 years after the procedure. Elbow instability includes a large spectrum of pathological conditions that affect the biomechanics of the joint. The Osborne-Cotterill lesion is one among these conditions. It is a pathology that is often forgotten and easily overlooked. Undoubtedly, this lesion requires surgical intervention.

Recently, multi-hop relay transmission has drawn much attention owing to its advantage of coverage extension at low power consumption. In this paper, we derive a performance bound of multi-hop communication systems with multiple amplify-and-forward relays when the optimal path is selected. The bound is derived in generalized Nakagami fading channels with different parameters for each hop by applying the geometric mean bound to the path signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and obtaining the moment generation function of the bound. It is shown that the bound based on the geometric mean is closer to the actual performance of optimal path selection when the fading effect is small.

Due to the advantage of communication coverage extension and removement of shadowing area, relay can be applied in various wireless communication systems. In this paper, we analyze performance of downlink with dual-hop communication systems which use a relay in railway environments. We adopted asymmetric communication system which use coherent modulation scheme in base station-relay link and differential modulation scheme in relay-destination link. The performance of communication system is analyzed using symbol error rate, and performance comparison with the systems which adopts fully coherent scheme is studied. We also investigate the performance of system depending on relay distance and energy allocation.
Relay system is a promising technique for the high downlink throughput or coverage extension in the next generation wireless systems. In this paper, the transmit scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based relay system with hierarchical modulation is designed. Without using much power from the base station, the proposed scheme can guarantee the cell edge users to get high data rates as the inner cell users. In the simulation, the performance of proposed scheme was compared with the conventional one in which there is no hierarchical modulation. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme can save much power whether the unicast case or multicast case.

In this paper, we propose a cooperative communication scheme for high transmission efficiency and coverage extension under multipath fading environment of moving networks. The proposed scheme uses a Space-Time Block Code (STBC) for improvement of receiving performance by using virtual Multiple-Input Multiple-Output(MIMO) transmit diversity. It can also achieve faster transmission time than a conventional scheme by using virtual MIMO configurations. Simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme provides SNR improvement and has faster transmission time compared to the conventional scheme, since it can utilize the good properties of spatial diversity and coding gain by using virtual MIMO configuration. In this paper, we propose simulations of UWB communication system to show validity by using the MATLAB.
Background Adipofascial flaps covered with a skin graft address the challenges involved in reconstructing dorsal foot defects. The purpose of this study was to describe a large adipofascial flap based on the perforators of the dorsalis pedis artery for large foot defects. Methods Twelve patients aged 5-18 years with large soft tissue defects of the dorsal foot due to trauma were treated with an extended dorsalis pedis adipofascial flap from May 2016 to December 2018. The flap was elevated from the non-injured half of the dorsum of the foot. Its length was increased by fascial extension from the medial or lateral foot fascia to the plantar fascia to cover the defect. All perforators of the dorsalis pedis artery were preserved to increase flap viability. The dorsalis pedis artery and its branches were kept intact. Results The right foot was affected in 10 patients, and the left foot in two patients. All flaps survived, providing an adequate contour and durable coverage with a thin flap. Follow-up lasted up to 2 years, and patients were satisfied with the results. They were able to wear shoes. Donor-site morbidity was negligible. Two cases each of partial skin graft loss and superficial necrosis at the tip of the donor cutaneous flap occurred and were healed by a dressing. Conclusions The hinged multiperforator-based extended dorsalis pedis adipofascial flap described herein is a suitable method for reconstructing dorsal foot defects, as it provides optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes with minimal donor site morbidity.
We propose two estimating procedures to analyze clustered interval-censored data with an informative cluster size based on a marginal model and investigate their asymptotic properties. One is an extension of Cong et al. (2007) to interval-censored data and the other uses the within-cluster resampling method proposed by Hoffman et al. (2001). Simulation results imply that the proposed estimators have a better performance in terms of bias and coverage rate of true value than an estimator with no adjustment of informative cluster size when the cluster size is related with survival time. Finally, they are applied to lymphatic filariasis data adopted from Williamson et al. (2008).

Multihop relay-based cellular networks are attracting much interest because of their throughput enhancement, coverage extension, and low infrastructure cost. In these networks, relay stations (RSs) between a base station (BS) and mobile stations (MSs) drastically increase the overall spectral efficiency, with improved channel quality for MSs located at the cell edge or in shadow areas, and enhanced throughput of MSs in hot spots. These relay-based networks require an advanced radio resource management scheme because the optimal amount of radio resource for a BS-to-RS link should be allocated according to the MS channel quality and distribution, considering the interference among RSs and neighbor BSs. In this paper, we propose optimal resource planning algorithms that maximize the overall utility of relay-based networks under a proportional fair scheduling policy. In the first phase, we determine an optimal scheduling policy for distributing BS-to-RS link resources to RSs. In the second phase, we determine the optimal amount of the BS-to-RS link resources using the results of the first phase. The proposed algorithms efficiently calculate the optimal amount of resource without exhaustive searches, and their accuracy is verified by comparison with simulation results, in which the algorithms show a perfect match with simulations.
