  • The purpose of this study was investigated the effects of education for nursing concept to the nursing students who are not attended to major course of nursing education in nursing college. it is hoped that this education for nursing concept will be contribute to positive nursing conceptualization for nursing students. The data for this study obtained from 118 students in attending college of nursing Ewha womens University(1st year; 62, End year; 56). 1st year students(experimental group) was attended to the education for nursing concept by investigators and 2nd year students(control .group) did not. After then tested to two group: Pre and post test for experimental group and post test only to control group. The results obtained were as follows: 1) In experimental group, pre-test mean score was 116.19(SD 50.46) and post-test mean score was 253.02 (SD 66.56). Therefore post-test mean score was higher than pre-test mean score (p=0.0001). 2) There were different score between the experimental group and control group. Control group was higher(207.58, SD 52.42) than experimental group(116.19, SD 50.46) at the pre-test (p=0.0002), but experimental group(253.02, SD 66.56) was higher than control group. (207 58, SD 52.42) at post-test(p=0.0001). These results implied that early intensive education for nursing concept might have positive effects on nursing conceptualization for nursing students.

  • In high school classrooms, it is reported that ventilation is often insufficient, increasing health risks among students. Therefore, indoor air quality in school classrooms is very important in terms of students' health and learning abilities. In this study, the effect of window opening, which is a control mechanism for air control in summer high school classrooms, on the change in air and indoor environment of the classroom was analyzed and physical conditions of indoor and air environment were observed during the classroom course, and satisfaction of the students and teachers was assessed with questionnaires. It was found that change rate of $CO_2$ concentration in classroom was effectively reduced by carrying out activity of opening the window by active environment control activity of occupants at break time, intermission time and cleaning time. And optimal window opening by students was presented to prevent unpleasantness and degradation of indoor air quality and the effects were analyzed.

  • In order for the underwater vehicle to perform various tasks, it is important to control the depth, course, and roll of the underwater vehicle. To design such a controller, it is necessary to construct a dynamic model of the underwater vehicle and select the appropriate hydrodynamic coefficients. For the controller design, since the dynamic model is linearized assuming a limited operating range, the control performance in the steady state is well satisfied, but the control performance in the transient state may be unstable. In this paper, in order to overcome the problems of the existing controller design, we propose a A2C(Advantage Actor-Critic) based roll controller for underwater vehicle with stable learning performance in a continuous space among reinforcement learning methods that can be learned through rewards for actions. The performance of the proposed A2C based roll controller is verified through simulation and compared with PID and Dueling DDQN based roll controllers.

  • The anti-nociceptive effect of an ethanol extract and its various solvent fractions from Curcuma longa Linne ethanol extract was studied using the writhing test in mice. Different fractions by various solvent extraction from Curcuma longa Linne ethanol extract were administered orally 1 hr or time-course (0.5, 1, 2 and 5 hr) before intraperitoneal injection of acetic acid. After treatment with 30% ethanol extract and n-butanol fraction, CB-1, at a dose of 250 mg/kg, the significant writhing responses were 87.5 ± 13.4 (inhibition rate 31%, p<0.01) and 75.1 ± 11.1 (inhibition rate 41%, p<0.01) lower than the control group. At the dose of CB-1 50 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg, CB-1 showed a similar activity comparing to diclofenac of 10 mg/kg. A time-course experiment was performed, which involved oral administration of CB-1 (250 mg/kg) at 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 5 hr before acetic acid intraperitoneal injection. The most effective time of CB-1 was 30 min before treatment and persisting until 2 hr. This study showed that Curcuma longa Linne has anti-nociceptive properties comparable with those of diclofenac, which suggests promise for the treatment of intractable visceral pain in humans. Major components of the active fraction are identified as curcumin, cyclocurcumin and demethoxycurcumin.

  • This paper presents the results of adopting pair programming practices in an introductory university programming course. The effectiveness of pair programming is analyzed by comparing the performance and survey data gathered from the experimental class that adopted the practice to those from the control class that did not. An analysis of the performance data found that pair programming improved student performance; however, not all students in the pair programming class benefited from the practice as only some students showed clear improvements in learning outcomes. The survey showed that the specific method for matching students into pairs is a critical factor affecting their performance and satisfaction. Based on the lessons learned from this pair programming class, I propose some suggestions and guidelines for applying pair programming to programming classes including 'pair matching'.

  • In order to test relationships between hepatotoxicity and transmethylation, activities of protein methylases and SAM (S-adenosyl-L-methionine)-synthetase were examined in liver tissues of rats treated with $CCl_4$. Also the concentrations of SAM and SAH were measured by HPLC in rat liver. The results are as follows. (1). Activities of protein methylases were not significantly changed in 24 hours after $CCl_4$ treatment. However, in 48 hours, activities of protein methylases were significantly increased in comparison with that of control. (2). Activity of SAM-synthetase was increased steadily in the time course after $CCl_4$ treatment. (3). S-adenosyl-L-methionine concentration of liver tissues in $CCl_4$-treated group was elevated in 24 hours, and then declined thereafter. But the SAH concentration was slightly decreased in the time course after $CCl_4$ treatment. These results indicate that SAM was very actively used in transmethylation reactions of $CCl_4$ damaged rat liver, suggesting the strong relationships between hepatotoxicity and transmethylation phenomena.

  • This study was intended to develop food and nutrition cyberclass contents for nonmajor students at university. We investigated universities which offered food and nutrition related courses in 1998 by a telephone survey in order to select the most appropriate lecture contents for the nonmajor university students. We investigated to select the most needed lecture contents for the students, 15 questions on evaluation of cyberclasses which they took. The number of subjects were 140 students of ‘C’university who registered for nonmajor food and nutrition course in 1998. Among 140 students, 80 were cyberclass students and 60 were non cyberclass students. The results of the survey were as following : Fifty-five universities out of 62 had curriculums on food and nutrition in 1998 and 36,802 students attended the non major food and nutrition lectures. 84.9% of the respondents had their own computes and the main application mostly used was word processing. Additionally, 33.3% of them used on-line communications and 81.4% of them used internet. The most interesting subject of the respondents was ‘disease and nutrition management’. The male respondents were concerned more about ‘alcohol and health’, whereas the females were concerned about ‘obesity and weight control’.

  • In 30 rats divided into salt, ethanol and salt plus ethanol groups, the effect of ethanol on the course of hypertension induction with the salt ingestion was studied. The results obtained from the present study are as follows. 1) In salt group mean arterial blood pressure elevated to plateau (about 140 mmHg) in two weeks and the increased blood pressure was well maintained throughout entire experimental period. 2) By four weeks after ethanol ingestion, mean arterial blood pressure of ethanol group was slightly decreased followed thereafter by slow restoration to control value. And it was believed that decline of blood pressure observed in this case probably was not resulted from cardiac depression. 3) As mean arterial pressure in salt plus ethanol group remained rather low compared with that of salt group, it was suggested that ethanol may have a dose reduction effect in the course of hypertension induction by excessive salt ingestion. It was, however, not possible from the result of present study to decide that low blood Pressure in this group was resulted whether from enhanced sodium excretion activity of ethanol or from effect on blood pressure of ethanol itself.
