Coupled Inductor Design Method for 2-Phase Interleaved Boost Converters

  • To achieve high efficiency and reliability, multiphase interleaved converters with coupled inductors have been widely applied. In this paper, a coupled inductor design method for 2-phase interleaved boost converters is presented. A new area product equation is derived to select the proper core size. The wire size, number of turns and air gap length are also determined by using the proposed coupled inductor design method. Finally, the validity of the proposed coupled inductor design method is confirmed by simulation and experimental results obtained from a design example.

Towards achieving the desired seismic performance for hybrid coupled structural walls

  • It is widely recognized that the preferred yielding mechanism for a hybrid coupled wall structure is that all coupling beams over the height of the structure yield in shear prior to formation of plastic hinges in structural walls. The objective of the study is to provide feasible approaches that are able to promote the preferred seismic performance of hybrid coupled walls. A new design methodology is suggested for this purpose. The coupling ratio, which represents the contribution of coupling beams to the resistance of system overturning moment, is employed as a fundamental design parameter. A series of nonlinear time history analyses on various representative hybrid coupled walls are carried out to examine the adequacy of the design methodology. While the proposed design method is shown to be able to facilitate the desired yielding mechanism in hybrid coupled walls, it is also able to reduce the adverse effects caused by the current design guidelines on the structural design and performance. Furthermore, the analysis results reveal that the state-of-the-art coupled wall design guidelines could produce a coupled wall structure failing to adequately exhaust the energy dissipation capacity of coupling beams before walls yield.

  • 본 논문에서는 같은 기능을 하는 부품들을 통합된 부품으로 설계하기 위한 부품통합 설계가설을 정립하기 위해 이 가설을 공리적 설계의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이 연구를 위해 비연성설계의 특성을 갖고 있는 전동식 사이드미러 액추에이터를 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 부품통합 설계가설을 이용하여 액추에이터를 구성하는 부품들의 통합 가능성을 검토하였다. 부품통합 설계가설에 의해서 도출된 개념설계는 연성설계의 특성을 갖는다. 그런데 이러한 개념설계 중에서 불완전연성설계의 특성을 가지며, 비연성설계의 특성에 접근하는 설계일수록 더 나은 설계가 됨을 확인할 수 있다.

A New Design Approach for Asymmetric Coupled-Section Marchand Balun

  • A systematic design for asymmetric coupled-section Marchand baluns is presented. Asymmetrically coupled transmission lines in multilayer configuration are exploited for constructing Marchand baluns. Design equations for characteristic impedance and electrical length of asymmetrical coupled transmission lines are derived for establishing a systematic design procedure. Novel Marchand balun based on these design equations is composed of two identical asymmetrical coupled transmission lines. However, contrary to the general conventional design approach where ranges for characteristic impedances of coupled lines are ambiguously capitalized, values for characteristic impedance and length are explicitly expressed. Our approach is fundamentally different from the design method using coupling coefficients where solution for coupling coefficient is inherently restricted. To verify the proposed method, one design example is performed for wideband Marchand balun in multilayer configuration, and is fabricated for verifying the design procedure proposed. Maintaining the return loss more than 10 dB, the bandwidth is measured from 0.43 to 1.0 GHz, where $S_{21}$ and $S_{31}$ show better than -4 dB. The measured phase and amplitude imbalances illustrate 0.5 dB and ${\pm}5^{\circ}$, respectively.

Performance based evaluation of RC coupled shear wall system with steel coupling beam

  • Steel coupling beam in reinforced concrete (RC) coupled shear wall system is a proper substitute for deep concrete coupling beam. Previous studies have shown that RC coupled walls with steel or concrete coupling beam designed with strength-based design approach, may not guarantee a ductile behavior of a coupled shear wall system. Therefore, seismic performance evaluation of RC coupled shear wall with steel or concrete coupling beam designed based on a strength-based design approach is essential. In this paper first, buildings with 7, 14 and 21 stories containing RC coupled shear wall system with concrete and steel coupling beams were designed with strength-based design approach, then performance level of these buildings were evaluated under two spectrum; Design Basis Earthquake (DBE) and Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE). The performance level of LS and CP of all buildings were satisfied under DBE and MCE respectively. In spite of the steel coupling beam, concrete coupling beam in RC coupled shear wall acts like a fuse under strong ground motion.

소성거동을 고려한 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템의 설계 (Structural Design of Coupled RC Structural Wall Considering Plastic Behavior)

  • 본 연구에서는 다양한 변수를 갖는 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템에 대한 성능기반설계의 타당성과 이에 따른 모멘트 재분배 개념의 적용성을 분석하기 위해 횡력을 지지하는 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템에 대한 비선형해석을 수행하였다. 설계변수(철근비, 콘크리트변형률, 벽체높이)가 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템의 거동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였으며 이를 기반으로 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템의 성능기반 설계를 위한 고려사항을 제안하였다. 비선형해석 결과, 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템 성능기반 설계와 모멘트 재분배 개념의 적용을 위해서는 연결보의 항복여부에 대한 고려가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 높은 벽체의 경우, 연결보가 항복하지 않고 탄성 상태로 거동할 수 있기 때문에 고층 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템에 대해 성능기반 설계 및 모멘트 재분배 개념을 적용하기 위해서는 벽체에 높은 수준의 소성변형능력을 필요로 하며, 이를 위해 벽체 압축단부에 횡보강을 필수적으로 실시해야 한다.

  • A layout design of an excavator front is a coupled design. Parameters of the layout design are coupled each other. So it is difficult to make decisions to set the parameters of the layout of an excavator front. We analyze the parameters of the layout design of an excavator front. We regroup the parameters as interface groups. And we suggest a new design process which is based on the interface groups. And we redesign user-interfaces of the Knowledge based Excavator Design System(KEDS).

  • The performance of an acoustic transducer is determined by the effects of many design variables. and mostly the influences of these design variables are not linearly independent of each other To achieve the optimal performance of an acoustic transducer, we must consider the cross-coupled effects of the design variables. In this study with the FEM. we analyzed the variation of the resonance frequency and sound pressure of a flextensional transducer in relation to Its design variables. Through statistical multiple regression analysis of the results, we derived functional forms of the resonance frequency and sound pressure in terms of the design variables, and with which we determined the optimal structure of the transducer by means of a constrained optimization technique, SQP-PD. The proposed method can reflect all the cross-coupled effects of multiple design variables, and can be utilized to the design of general acoustic transducers.

탭 선로를 이용한 새로운 결합선로 여파기 설계법 (A New Design Method of Tapped Coupled-Line Filters)

  • 본 논문에서는 다단 결합선로 여파기(edge coupled-line filter)의 입출력단을 탭 선로(tapped-line)의 형태로 구현하기 위하여 등가회로 기반의 새로운 설계법을 개발하여 적용하였다. 다단 결합선로 여파기는 입출력단의 선로 간격이 매우 좁아서(수 mil) 제작하기가 힘든 결함이 있는데, 이를 탭 선로로 대체함으로써 제작 시 오차에 덜 민감하고 밀링머신으로 쉽게 제작할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한, 본 논문에서 제안된 간단한 설계법을 사용하면 20 GHz 이하의 주파수 대역에서 20 % 이하의 대역폭 특성을 갖는 탭 선로의 파라미터를 얻을 수 있으며, 이를 바탕으로 정확한 탭 선로 여파기를 설계할 수 있다.

A modified multidisciplinary feasible formulation for MDO using integrated coupled approximate models

  • This paper is concerned with the modification of multidisciplinary feasible formulation for MDO problems using the integrated coupled approximate models. A drawback of conventional MDFs is the numerical difficulty in decomposing the design variables and deriving the coupled equations of state. To overcome such a drawback of conventional methods, the coupling in analysis and design is resolved by approximating the state variables in each discipline by the response surface method and by modifying the optimization formulation using the corresponding integrated coupled approximate models. The validity, reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method are illustrated and verified through two optimization problems, a mathematical MDF problem and the multidisciplinary optimum design of suspension unit of wheeled armored vehicle.
