  • The paper describes a theoretical study on the speed of the torsional elastic waves propagating in a circular cylinder whose outer radius varies periodically as a harmonic function of the axial coordinate. The approximate solution for the phase speed has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of small amplitude. It is shown that the wave speed in the cylinder with a corrugated outer surface is less than that in a smooth cylinder by the square of the amplitude of the surface perturbation. This theoretical prediction agrees reasonably with an experimental observation reported earlier. It is also shown that the wave speed reduction due to the surface corrugation becomes larger for a thinner cylinder and for a bigger density of corrugation.

  • A conservation corrugated box for storing document archives was developed. The specifications of the double-walled E-flute corrugated conservation box were modified from those of the Library of Congress, USA. The Photographic activity test (PAT) of ISO 18916 was used to ensure protection of the archival contents from adverse effects of the container itself. Accelerated aging was conducted to evaluate the conservative properties of the box components. Atomic force microscopy was also used to evaluate changes in the cellulose surface due to accelerated aging.

  • The corrugated steel plate structures is applied to the construction of mountain tunnel portal part with shallow depth, the tunnel on the outskirts of urban areas and ecology move passage. In this study, A finite element method is used for research the behavior of corrugated steel plate structures due to construction position under declinating earth pressure and excavation depth. A finite element method were performed varying construction position(10, 15, 20 and 25m) from slope and excavation depth from surface. The hoop thrust and moment, displacement of corrugated steel plate subjected to construction position and excavation depth is determined from a finite element method. From results of finite element method, it was found that the increase of thrust and the decrease of displacement as the amount of distance increase from slope with construction position. But the thrust and moment, displacement has not different value with excavation depth.

  • Estimation of durability for corrugated steel pipe(CSP) has been evaluated by using several analytical methods. This study, using a plain hot-dip galvanized CSP as the base line, addresses additional coatings such as polymers sand bituminous coatings that may be used to achieve a desired design life of at least 50years. The behavior of both the soil side and the effluent side of the pipe have been studied. It is estimated that CSP generally provides outstanding dura-bility with regard to soil side effects, and that virtually any required service life can be attained by selecting appropri-ate coatingss and/or thickness of steel substrate. This study is limited to storm drainage systemss carrying naturally oc-curring surface water only. The recommendation in this report do not apply to sanitary or industrial waste sewers or other conduits used to carry corrosive effluents.

  • The recent greenhouses are extremely light-weight structures and easily damaged by the strong winds due to the lack of uplift capacity of pile foundations. The uplift capacity of pile foundations are subject to the shape of the pile surface, diameter, weight, and embedded depths. etc. So, it is very important to figure out the most appropriate conditions on shape of the pile surface and it's embedding depths. to improve wind proof capability of pipe greenhouses. In this study, plane and corrugated pile surfaces were examined on their uplift capacity with 30 to 50 cm of embedding depths. The diameters of tested piles were 10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm, respectively. Compaction ratio of the tested soil was 80%. Each test run was repeated three times for the respective treatment. Obtained results are as follows; In all cases, as the diameter and the embedding depth were increased, the ultimate uplift capacity of the pile was also increased. And it was clear that the ultimate uplift capacity of corrugated pile was approximately two times as big as that of plain piles under same conditions.

  • In this study, new antibacterial materials were developed to manufacture a functional corrugated board. Sulfur solution, a new antibacterial solution made from inorganic sulfur in the laboratory, and other antibacterial mat erials were adopted to treat the surface of a linerboard. We measured the antibacteriocidal and bacteriostatic activities, as well as the fungal resistance of the surface-treated linerboards, to identify the antibacterial properties. The mechanical properties of the surface-treated linerboard were also determined in order to identify the effects of the antibacterial materials on linerboard properties. Linerboard treated with sulfur solution, PVOH, and sodium metasulfite showed the highest antibacterial activity, while linerboard treated with sulfur solution and nano sulfur showed the highest fungal resistance. It was identified that sulfur solution has effective antibacterial properties. The antibacterial materials did not affect the mechanical properties of the surface-treated linerboard, but the binder showed significant effects in terms of the burst strength, the compressive strength, and the stiffness of the linerboard.

  • The analysis of a surface wave antenna with the corrugated ground plane fed by a parallel-plate waveguide is considered. An equivalent theorem Is employed to subdivide the original problem into three regions for the simple analysis : one concerning the geometry inside the shorted parallel-plate(Internal region 1), one concerning the geometry of the corrugation(Internal region 2), and one concerning the geometry of the conducting wedge(External region). The hybrid method of moment(MOM)/uniform geometrical theory of diffraction(UTD) method is applied to analyze a corrugated surface wave antenna with the end-fire radiation. Our numerical results are very well matched with those of the previous experiment, better results are obtained when compared with those of the previous simple equivalent current approach. Also, we can obtain the parameters to design an effective end-fire corrugated surface wave antenna.

  • The Rayleigh wave propagation is considered in the structure of the functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) layer over the elastic substrate. The elastic substrate loosely bonds the layer through a corrugated interface, whereas its upper boundary is also corrugated but stress-free. Additionally, the solutions for the FGPM layer and substrate are derived using the fundamental variable separable approach to convert the partial differential equation to an ordinary differential equation. The results with boundary conditions lead to dispersion relations for the electrically open and electrically short cases in the determinant form. The outcomes have been numerically analyzed using a specific model. The findings were presented in the form of graphs, which were created using Mathematica 7. Graphs are plotted for variations in wavenumber and phase velocity. The outcomes may help measure interface defects and design Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices.

  • Feasibility of using PE sheet laminated CSP(Corrugated steel pipe) to sewers were tested via corrosion and abrasion tests for PE sheet laminated CSP; 1) corrosion test for PE film and PE coated plate, 2) corrosion test for joint of PE sheet laminated CSP, 3) corrosion test for outside of PE sheet laminated CSP, and 4) abrasion test for inside of PE sheet laminated CSP. The results for the corrosion and abrasion tests are as follows. 1. Results for corrosion tests on PE films and zinc coated steel plates that were coated with PE films show that the surfaces of both PE were not changed compared to those of original PE samples. Furthermore, PE films maintained strong adhesion on the steel plates even though they were exposed to sewage and seawater provided cutting planes of the steel plates were treated with molding. But, results for corrosion tests on the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting planes of the steel plates were treated without molding show that steel plates have been corroded if they were exposed to sewage and seawater. 2. Results for corrosion tests on joints of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel using sewage show that gathering rust was observed at cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel after 180 days, but PE film was not flaked off. However, PE film at cutting plane was flaked off when PE sheet laminated corrugated steel was exposed to seawater. Furthermore, flaking process was severely progressed at lockseam points of which the surfaces were not smooth. 3. Results for laying PE sheet laminated corrugated steel under the ground show that the surface of untouched PE film was almost identical to that of original PE film. However, the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel have flaked off. 4. As a result of abrasion tests conducted with PE sheet laminated corrugated steel and sand, brilliance and thickness of PE was not greatly changed under the severe abrasion conditions. Therefore, the durability of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel for abrasion was determined to be good.
