DC electricity feeder system operating in the urban railway is typically a feedback circuit consisted of the contact wire and electric railway vehicle via rail. But stray current is flowed on a structure that is not part of the intended electrical circuit with respect to a given structure. This paper presents comparison analysis of field test cases based on criteria of electrolytic corrosion protection of buried metallic structures adjacent to DC traction systems. As a result of it, we confirmed that measurement methods are different from each other about the same tests. Therefore measurement methods to prevent electrolytic corrosion need to establish electrical facilities standards to be applied domestic.

This paper discusses a method of measuring transient potential response of a corrosion interface to a small galvanostatic pulse perturbation for a rapid assessment of the corrosion rate of reinforcing steel in concrete structures. Measurements were taken on 100 mm sections of steel bars which were subjected to a wide range of corrosion conditions, from passive steel to actively corroding steel. The duration of the applied galvanostatic pulse was varied between 5s and 180s, and the lateral distance of the point of measurement on the steel bar varied from zero to 400 mm. The result of the electrochemical transient response was investigated using a typical sampling rate of 1 kHz. Analysis of the transient potential response to the applied galvanostatic pulse has enabled the separation of equivalent electronic components so that the components of a series of capacitances and resistances, whose values are dependent on the corrosion condition of the reinforcing steel, could be isolated. The corrosion rate was calculated from a summation of the separate resistive components, which were associated with the corrosion interface, and was compared with the corrosion rate obtained from linear polarization resistance (LPR) method. The results show that the galvanostatic pulse transient technique enables the components of the polarization resistance to be evaluated separately so as to give more reliable corrosion rate values than those obtained from the LPR method. Additionally, this paper shows how the galvanostatic pulse transient response technique can be implemented. An appropriate measurement time for passive and actively corroding reinforcing steel is suggested for the galvanostatic pulse transient response measurements in the field site.

This work dealt with the evaluation of galvanic corrosion rate in a corrosion cell having annular gap of 0.5 mm between carbon steel 1018 and alloy 600 as a function of temperature and boron concentration. Temperature and boron concentration were ranged from 110 to 300 $^{\circ}C$ and 2000~10000 ppm, respectively. After the operating temperature of the corrosion cell where the electrolyte was injected was attained at setting temperature, galvanic coupling was made and at the same time galvanic current was measured. The galvanic corrosion rate decreased with time, which was described by corrosion product such as protective film as well as boric acid deposit formed on the carbon steel with time. From the galvanic current obtained as a function of temperature and boron concentration, it was found that the galvanic corrosion rate decreased with temperaturewhilethe corrosionrate increasedwith boronconcentration. The experimental resultsobtained from galvanic corrosion measurement were explained by adhesive property of corrosion product such as protective film, boric acid deposit formed on the carbon steel wall and dehydration of boric acid to be slightlysolubleboric acid phase.Moreoverthe galvaniccorrosionrate calculatedusing initialgalvaniccoupling current instead of steady state coupling current was remarked, which could give us relatively closer galvanic corrosion rate to real pressurized water reactor.
In this study, the accelerated corrosion test by combined deteriorating action of salt damage and freeze-thaw was investigated. freeze-thaw cycle is one method for corrosion testing; corrosion initiation time was measured in four types of concrete samples, i.e., two samples mixed with fly ash (FA) and blast furnace slag (BS), and the other two samples having two water/cement ratio (W/C = 0.6, 0.35) without admixture (OPC60 and OPC35). The corrosion of rebar embedded in concrete occurred most quickly at the $30^{th}$ freeze-thaw cycle. Moreover, a corrosion monitoring method with a half-cell potential measurement and relative dynamic elastic modulus derived from resonant frequency measures was conducted simultaneously. The results indicated that the corrosion of rebar occurred when the relative dynamic elastic modulus was less than 60%. Therefore, dynamic elastic modulus can be used to detect corrosion of steel bar. The results of the accelerated corrosion test exhibited significant difference according to corrosion periods combined with each test condition. Consequently, the OPC60 showed the lowest corrosion resistance among the samples.
The effect of passive film on corrosion of metals and alloys in a static corrosive environment has been studied by many researchers and is well known, however few studies have been conducted on the electrochemical measurement of metals and alloys during cavitation corrosion conditions, and there are no test standards for electrochemical measurements 'During cavitation' conditions. This study used commercially additive manufactured(AM) pure titanium in tests of anodic polarization, corrosion potential measurements, AC impedance measurements, and repassivation. Tests were performed in 3.5% NaCl solution under three conditions, 'No cavitation', 'After cavitation', and 'During cavitation' condition. When cavitation corrosion occurred, the passive current density was greatly increased, the corrosion potential largely lowered, and the passive film revealed a small polarization resistance. The current fluctuation by the passivation and repassivation phenomena was measured first, and this behavior was repeatedly generated at a very high speed. The electrochemical corrosion mechanism that occurred during cavitation corrosion was based on result of the electrochemical properties 'No cavitation', 'After cavitation', and 'During cavitation' conditions.
This work studied the corrosion behavior of AZ31 Mg alloy galvanically coupled with Cu during immersion in 0.1 and 0.5 M NaCl solutions by in-situ observation and galvanic corrosion current measurement using a zero resistance ammeter. The corrosion behavior of AZ31 Mg alloy was also studied by salt spray test. The average galvanic corrosion density during 2 h immersion in 0.1 NaCl solution was found to decrease as an exponential function with increasing the surface area ratios between AZ31:Cu or with increasing the distance between AZ31 and Cu. The corrosion of electrodeposited Cu on AZ31 Mg alloy was concentrated at the area next to Cu (about 5 mm for immersion test and 2 mm for salt spray test) and pitting corrosion was accelerated at the area beyond the severely corroded area by the galvanic coupling effect.
Corrosion behavior of welded SWS400 steel used for bridges was studied in a range of the acid-rain environment using immersion, potentiodynamic polartization, polarization resistance, and galvanic corrosion tests. The SWS400 steel exhibited active corrosion behavior in the range of acid-rain environment, i.e. no passivation. As the results of immersion corrosion test, Tafel extrapolation method, and polarization resistance measurement, the average corrosion rats of the steels were 0.31-0.72 mm/year in the pH of 4-5, and 0.17 mm/yera in the pH 6, respectively. The steel showed a resistance to corrosion in the pH 6. The observed active behavior of SWS400 steel in chloride-containing environment indicated that the chloride ions exerts a detrimental influence on the formation of passive films. Galvanic corrosion was observed between the weld and the base metals because the weld is anodic to the base metal.
Reinforced concrete (RC) structures play a significant role in the construction industries. An embeddable solid-state reference electrode (ESSRE) was used to evaluate the corrosion status of steel rebar in the concrete of various cover thicknesses that exposed to the maritime environment (3.5 % NaCl) in this study. From the open circuit potential measurement (OCP), the passive state, the corrosion uncertainty, and the 90% probability of corrosion state of the steel rebars in the concrete were monitored by ESSRE. From the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method, severe corrosion was observed at the exposure period of 1510, 1847, 2350, and 3020 h for C10, C15, C20, and C30 concrete, respectively. The results confirm that the ESSRE can be useful to identify the corrosion occurrence and severe corrosion of steel rebar embedded in different cover depth concrete structures.
Additively manufactured (AM) Ti-6Al-4V alloys exhibit a dominant acicular martensite phase (α'), which is characterized by an unstable energy state and highly localized corrosion susceptibility. Electrochemical critical localized corrosion temperature (E-CLCT, ISO 22910: 2020) and electrochemical critical localized corrosion potential (E-CLCP, ISO AWI 4631: 2021) were measured to analyze the localized corrosion resistance of the AM Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Although E-CLCP was measured under mild corrosive conditions such as human body, the validity of evaluating localized corrosion resistance of AM titanium alloys was demonstrated by comparison with E-CLCT. However, the mechanisms of resistance to localized corrosion on the as-received and heat-treated AM Ti-6Al-4V alloys under E-CLCT and E-CLCP differ at various temperatures because of differences in properties under localized corrosion and repassivation. The E-CLCT is mainly measured for initiation of localized corrosion on the AM titanium alloys based on temperature, whereas the E-CLCP yields repassivation potential of re-generated passive films of AM titanium alloys after breaking down.
Flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) is a type of pipe corrosion in which the pipe thickness decreases depending on the fluid flow conditions. In nuclear power plants, FAC mainly occurs in the carbon steel pipes of a secondary system. However, because the temperature of a secondary system pipe is over 150 ℃, in situ monitoring using a conventional ultrasonic non-destructive testing method is difficult. In our previous study, we developed a waveguide ultrasonic thickness measurement system. In this study, we applied a waveguide ultrasonic thickness measurement system to monitor the thinning of the pipe according to the change in pH. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute installed FAC-proof facilities, enabling the monitoring of internal fluid flow conditions, which were fixed for ~1000 h to analyze the effect of the pH. The measurement system operated without failure for ~3000 h and the pipe thickness was found to be reduced by ~10% at pH 9 compared to that at pH 7. The thickness of the pipe was measured using a microscope after the experiment, and the reliability of the system was confirmed with less than 1% error. This technology is expected to also be applicable to the thickness-reduction monitoring of other high-temperature materials.
