  • Due to continuous promotion of green alternatives to toxic petrochemicals by government policies, research efforts towards the development of green corrosion inhibitors have intensified recently. The objective of the current work was to develop novel green and sustainable corrosion inhibitors derived from 4-aminoantipyrine to effectively prevent corrosion of mild steel in corrosive environments. Gravimetric methods were used to investigate corrosion inhibition of 4-((furan-2-ylmethylene)amino)antipyrine (FAP) and 4-((pyridin-2-ylmethylene)amino)antipyrine (PAP) for mild steel in 1 M HCl. FAP and PAP were subjected to quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). DFT was used to determine the mechanism of mild steel corrosion inhibition using inhibitors tested in HCl. Results demonstrated that these tested inhibitors could effectively inhibit mild steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCl. At 0.0005 M, these inhibitors' efficiencies for FAP and PAP were 93.3% and 96.5%, respectively. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was obeyed by these inhibitors on the mild steel surface. Values of adsorption free energies, ΔGoads, revealed that FAP followed chemical and physical adsorptions.

  • As the trend towards miniaturization in semiconductor integration process, the limitations of interconnection metals such as copper, tungsten have become apparent, prompting research into the emergence of new materials like cobalt and emphasizing the importance of studying the corresponding process conditions. During the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process, corrosion inhibitors are added to the slurry, forming passivation layers on the cobalt surface, thereby playing a crucial role in controlling the dissolution rate of the metal surface, enhancing both removal rate and selectivity. This review investigates the understanding of the cobalt polishing process and examines the characteristics and behavior of corrosion inhibitors, a type of slurry additive, on the cobalt surface. Among the corrosion inhibitors examined, benzotriazole (BTA), 1,2,4-triazole (TAZ), and potassium oleate (PO) all improved surface characteristics through their interaction with cobalt. These findings provide important guidelines for selecting corrosion inhibitors to optimize CMP processes for cobalt-based semiconductor materials. Future research should explore combinations of various corrosion inhibitors and the development of new compounds to further enhance the efficiency of semiconductor processes.

  • In this study, corrosion potential ($E_{corr}$), corrosion rate, and polarization resistance were measured aimed at inorganic inhibitors (passive film type) and organic inhibitors (absorption type). The experiment was conducted using potentiostat for the variable molar ratio and chloride ion concentration of the components of inhibitors in an aqueous solution of saturated calcium hydroxide targeting corrosion. As a result, it was possible to ensure an anticorrosive performance of at least a 1.2 molar ratio of inorganic inhibitors. Also, the organic inhibitors ensured the prevention of the anticorrosive performance of at least about a 0.3 molar ratio. It also showed the tendency that between polarization resistance and corrosion rate, Ecorr and corrosion rate is inversely proportional to the linear. Conversely, the tendency between polarization resistance and Ecorr is proportional to the linear. Also, a distinct difference in organic and inorganic inhibitors' relationship to Ecorr, corrosion rate, and polarization resistance was not shown.

  • Ten phosphate corrosion inhibitors meet the required standards and drinking waters containing corrosion inhibitors also within 27 items of water quality standards. In addition, the T-P concentration was observed at a level of 2.342-2.909mg/L. Those results indicate that the corrosion inhibitors are not harmful and, as for drinking waters with inhibitors, they can be considered not to have any toxic influence on human body when used below the regulated level of 10mg/L.

  • In this study, two novel Schiff base compounds including (3-(4-Chlorophenyl isoxazole-5-yl) methanol and (3-(2,4 dichlorophenol isoxazole-5-yl) methanol as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and density functional theory (DFT) computations. The results showed that the corrosion inhibition efficiency (IE) is remarkably enhanced with the growing concentration of the Schiff base inhibitors. The results from Tafel polarization and EIS methods showed that IE decreases with gradual increments of temperature. This process can be attributed to the displacement of the adsorption/desorption balance and hence to the diminution of the level of a surface coating. Also, the adsorption of two inhibitors over mild steel followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Too, the results of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images showed that the Schiff base inhibitors form an excellent protective film over mild steel and verified the results by electrochemical techniques. Additionally, the results from the experimental and those from DFT computations are in excellent accordance.

  • The effect of 2-hydroxyacetophenone-aroyl hydrazone derivatives on the inhibition of copper corrosion in 3N nitric acid solution at 303 K was investigated by galvanostatic polarization and thermometric techniques. A significant decrease in the cor rosion rate of copper was observed in the presence of the investigated compounds. The corrosion rate was found to depend on the nature and concentrations of the inhibitors. The degree of surface coverage of the adsorbed inhibitors is determined from polarization measurements, and it was found that the results obey the Frumkin adsorption isotherm. The inhibitors acted as mixed-type inhibitors, but the cathode is more polarized. The relative inhibitive efficiency of these compounds has been explained on the basis of structure dependent electron donor properties of the inhibitors and the nature of the metal-inhibitor interaction at the surface. Also, some thermodynamic data for the adsorption process ( ΔGa* and f ) are calculated and discussed.

  • Electrochemical techniques were used to study the surface treatment for improving the pitting corrosion resistance of 304L stainless steel by inhibitors in chloride medium. Sodium molybdate (in concentration range : 0.005-80 g/l) , sodium nitrite (in concentration range : 0.001-50 g/l) and their mixture were used for this study. It was found that, molybdate and nitrite were good passivators for 304L stainless steel, but molybdate was not able to prohibit the pitting ; nitrite prevented pitting corrosion of 304L stainless steel only at the concentration more than 25 g/l. The relationship between pitting potentials and concentrations of inhibitors in the logarithm expression obeyed the linear function. It was found that the surface treatment by mixture of two inhibitors enables stainless steel to have increased the corrosion resistance , the pitting corrosion of 304L stainless steel was completely prohibited by the mixtures of molybdate and nitrite in ratio min, with $m\;\geq\;3\;and\;n\;\geq\;10$. The interesting cases on electrochemical measurement of threshold of inhibitors concentration combination for optimum surface treatment were described.

  • Palm oil production is among the highest worldwide, and it has been mainly used in the food industry and other commodities. Currently, a lot of palm oil production has been destined for the synthesis of biodiesel; however, its use in applications other than the food industry has been questioned. Thereby for a sustainable development, in this paper the use of palm oil of low quality for corrosion inhibitors synthesis is proposed. The performance of the synthesized inhibitors was evaluated by using electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential measurements, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results indicate that the fatty amides from palm oil are excellent corrosion inhibitors with protection efficiencies greater than 98%. Fatty amides molecules act as cathodic inhibitors decreasing the anodic dissolution of iron. When fatty amides are added, a rapid decrease in the corrosion rate occurs due to the rapid formation of a molecular film onto carbon steel surface. During the adsorption process of the inhibitor a self-organization of the hydrocarbon chains takes place forming a tightly packed hydrophobic film. These results demonstrate that the use of palm oil for the production of green inhibitors promises to be an excellent alternative for a sustainable use of the palm oil production.

  • The high toxicity of wax, oil, varnish and volatile corrosion inhibitor(VCI) corrosion inhibitors lead to an increasing interest in using non-toxic alternatives such as anti-corrosive film. This study aims to investigate the possibility to use acryl based anti-corrosive film as a substitution of toxic corrosion inhibitors. Acryl emulsions were polymerized by several acryl monomers(acrylonitrile(AN), n-butyl acrylate(nBA), methylmethacrylate(MMA) and glycycyl methacrylate(GMA)), non-toxic corrosion inhibitor, crosslinking agents(diethylene glycol dimethacrylate(DEGDA)) and various additives in order to apply substrate of anti-corrosive film. Acryl emulsion for anti-corrosive film(AeACF) as a substrate of corrosion inhibitor film has excellent removal characteristic at above $25^{\circ}C$. The crosslinked by DEGDA in a range of above 4 wt% content anti-corrosive film can easily remove from the metal surface by using hands because it kept a balance of cohesion and adhesion strength. Anti - corrosive performance of AeACF is better than anti-corrosive oil by corrosion rate test, which was measured $54.3mg/dm^2$ day(MDD) and $142.9mg/dm^2$ day, respectively. Anti-corrosive film consisting of acryl monomers and inorganic anti-corrosive ingredients did not emit any toxic pollutants by gas chromatography. Thus it is estimated that acryl based anti-corrosion film can substitute toxic corrosion inhibitors.
