  • Purpose: A stability-measuring device that utilizes damping capacity analysis (DCA) has recently been introduced in the field of dental implantology. This study aimed to evaluate the sensitivity and reliability of this device by measuring the implant stability of ex vivo samples in comparison with a resonance frequency analysis (RFA) device. Methods: Six implant beds were prepared in porcine ribs using 3 different drilling protocols to simulate various implant stability conditions. Thirty-six pork ribs and 216 bone-level implants measuring 10 mm in height were used. The implant beds were prepared using 1 of the following 3 drilling protocols: 10-mm drilling depth with a 3.5-mm-diameter twist drill, 5-mm drilling depth with a 4.0-mm-diameter twist drill, and 10-mm drilling depth with a 4.0-mm-diameter twist drill. The first 108 implants were external-connection implants 4.0 mm in diameter, while the other 108 implants were internal-connection implants 4.3 mm in diameter. The peak insertion torque (PIT) during implant placement, the stability values obtained with DCA and RFA devices after implant placement, and the peak removal torque (PRT) during implant removal were measured. Results: The intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) of the implant stability quotient (ISQ) results obtained using the RFA device at the medial, distal, ventral, and dorsal points were 0.997, 0.994, 0.994, and 0.998, respectively. The ICCs of the implant stability test (IST) results obtained using the DCA device at the corresponding locations were 0.972, 0.975, 0.974, and 0.976, respectively. Logarithmic relationships between PIT and IST, PIT and ISQ, PRT and IST, and PRT and ISQ were observed. The mean absolute difference between the ISQ and IST values on a Bland-Altman plot was -6.76 (-25.05 to 11.53, P<0.05). Conclusions: Within the limits of ex vivo studies, measurements made using the RFA and DCA devices were found to be correlated under a variety of stability conditions.

  • In this study, we propose an approach for calibrating the elevation of a DEM (Digital Elevation Model), one of the key data in realizing unmanned aerial vehicle image-based precision agriculture. First of all, radiometric correction is performed on the orthophoto, and then ExG (Excess Green) is generated. The non-vegetation area is extracted based on the threshold value estimated by applying the Otsu method to ExG. Subsequently, the elevation of the DEM corresponding to the location of the non-vegetation area is extracted as EIFs (Elevation Invariant Features), which is data for elevation correction. The normalized Z-score is estimated based on the difference between the extracted EIFs to eliminate the outliers. Then, by constructing a linear regression model and correcting the elevation of the DEM, high-quality DEM is produced without GCPs (Ground Control Points). To verify the proposed method using a total of 10 DEMs, the maximum/minimum value, average/standard deviation before and after elevation correction were compared and analyzed. In addition, as a result of estimating the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) by selecting the checkpoints, an average RMSE was derivsed as 0.35m. Comprehensively, it was confirmed that a high-quality DEM could be produced without GCPs.

  • This paper describes a multi-scale user interaction based tiled display visualization system using multiple input devices for monitoring and analyzing Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) observation satellite imagery. This system provides multi-touch screen, Kinect motion sensing, and moblie interface for multiple users to control the satellite imagery either in front of the tiled display screen or far away from a distance to view marine environmental or climate changes around Korean peninsular more effectively. Due to a large amount of memory required for loading high-resolution GOCI satellite images, we employed the multi-level image load technique where the image was divided into small tiled images in order to reduce the load on the system and to be operated smoothly by user manipulation. This system performs the abstraction of common input information from multi-user Kinect motion and gestures, multi-touch points and mobile interaction information to enable a variety of user interactions for any tiled display application. In addition, the unit of time corresponding to the selected date of the satellite images are sequentially displayed on the screen and multiple users can zoom-in/out, move the imagery and select buttons to trigger functions.

  • The expansion behavior of polystyrene (PS) chains with various molecular weights has been investigated above Flory $\Theta$temperature by viscometry after dissolving in the three different mixed solvents systems such as benzene/n-heptane, 1,4-dioxane/isopropanol, and 1,4-dioxane/n-heptane. Two different regimes are observed as increasing temperature: one regime is for the expansion of chain and the other is for the contraction. For the higher molecular weight sample of PS, the higher peak temperature showing its maximum expansion is obtained. Within a certain system of Ps/mixed solvents, the $\tau/\tau_c$ parameter shows universality for the variation of molecular weight. But while each system of Ps/mixed solvents has shown its own different slope, the universality breaks down in the overall system of mixed solvents. However after introducing a new empirical $b^{2/3}\tau/\tau_c$ parameter, all data points of three different systems have dropt on one master curve and the universality of chain expansion has recovered again. Here $\tau$ and $\tau_c$ are defined as $(T-\Theta)/\Theta$ and $(\Theta-T_c)/T_c$, respectively and $T_c$ is the critical solution temperature, and b of Schultz-Flory equation is corresponding to the effective slope in the plot of $1/T_c$ against $1/M_w^{1/2}$.

  • Today, it is necessary to calculate orbits with high accuracy in space flight. The key words of Poincar$\acute{e}$ in celestial mechanics are periodic solutions, invariant integrals, asymptotic solutions, characteristic exponents and the non existence of new single-valued integrals. Poincar$\acute{e}$ define an invariant integral of the system as the form which maintains a constant value at all time $t$, where the integration is taken over the arc of a curve and $Y_i$ are some functions of $x$, and extend 2 dimension and 3 dimension. Eigenvalues are classified as the form of trajectories, as corresponding to nodes, foci, saddle points and center. In periodic solutions, the stability of periodic solutions is dependent on the properties of their characteristic exponents. Poincar$\acute{e}$ called bifurcation that is the possibility of existence of chaotic orbit in planetary motion. Existence of near exceptional trajectories as Hadamard's accounts, says that there are probabilistic orbits. In this context we study the eigenvalue problem in early 20th century in three body problem by analyzing the works of Darwin, Bruns, Gyld$\acute{e}$n, Sundman, Hill, Lyapunov, Birkhoff, Painlev$\acute{e}$ and Hadamard.

  • This study is based on the diagnosis process on agricultural production cost survey, which is one of the most representative public statistics of agricultural sector in Korea. The diagnosis were performed by employing the quantitative and qualitative approaches with the official guideline provided by the Ministry of Statistics. The various results were produced from the aspects of exactness, relevance, timeliness, accessibility, and comparability, which were based on the qualitative approaches including focus group interview (FGI) with professional users. The results from statistical portfolio analysis implies that the first priority to improve the statistics is given to 'satisfaction level corresponding to user cost' and 'offering sufficient explanation'. The comprehensive results, discussed with the administrative office, are summarized into the following two major points. First, classification of the detailed items should be improved to avoid users' confusion. However, the re-classification need to be professionally reviewed with the relevant administrative office such as Rural Development Administration, producing similar statistics. Second, the KOSIS system is found to be constantly upgraded to improve the users' convenience.

  • Today's commercial high resolution satellite imagery such as IKONOS and QuickBird, offers the potential to extract useful spatial information for geographical database construction and GIS applications. Extraction of 3D building information from high resolution satellite imagery is one of the most active research topics. There have been many previous works to extract 3D information based on stereo analysis, including sensor modelling. Practically, it is not easy to obtain stereo high resolution satellite images. On single image performance, most studies applied the roof-bottom points or shadow length extracted manually to sensor models with DEM. It is not suitable to apply these algorithms for dense buildings. We aim to extract 3D building information from a single satellite image in a simple and practical way. To measure as many buildings as possible, in this paper, we suggested a new way to extract building height by triangular vector structure that consists of a building bottom point, its corresponding roof point and a shadow end point. The proposed method could increase the number of measurable building, and decrease the digitizing error and the computation efficiency.

  • The present study proposes a new estimation relationship for the transmission rate of the steel breakwater which is expected to make up for the weakness points in existing hard solution for shore protection. The steel breakwater consists of the wave dissipator of the dual horizontal plates, the supporting columns and their foundations, and thus its respective designs should also be conducted one by one. Furthermore, the breakwater has to ensure both functions of shore protection and structure stabilization. The study produced experimental data for the stability and safety investigation of the steel breakwater. The forces acting on the steel breakwater were classified into two categories, one is vertical up and down loads for the pile resistance and the other was maximum difference of the vertical load acting on horizontally different position for the torsion. The study applied the stability force produced by the summation of maximum pressure at each point and the safety force acting on each point simultaneously. The regular wave corresponding to the significant wave was utilized for measuring wave pressure and force. The study showed the method for the proper position of submerged upper plate by considering occurrence frequency of tide level. The design process finally determined by trial and error is proposed in the present study.

  • In order to overcome shortcomings of commercial analysis program for solving certain geotechnical problems, finite element method adopting isoparametric quadrilateral element was selected as a tool for analyzing soil behavior and calculating process was programmed. Two examples were considered in order to verify reliability of the developed program. One of the two examples is the case of acting isotropic confining pressure on finite element and the other is the case of acting shear stress on the sides of the finite element. Isoparametric quadrilateral element was considered as the finite element and displacements in the element can be expressed by node displacements and shape functions in the considered element. Calculating process for determining strain which is defined by derivatives using global coordinates was coded using the Jacobian and the natural coordinates. Four point Gauss rule was adopted to convert double integral which defines stiffness of the element into numerical integration. As a result of executing analysis of the finite element under isotropic confining pressure, calculated stress corresponding to four Gauss points and center of the element were equal to the confining pressure. In addition, according to the analyzed results for the element under shear stress, horizontal stresses and vertical stresses were varied with positions in the element and the magnitudes and distribution pattern of the stresses were thought to be rational.

  • Changpo Lake was created as a part of a land reclamation for refugee self-helping projects. It shows characteristics of a fresh water lake, and still retains the early appearance of reclamation that surrounding regions have not been developed into farm lands. Shallow wetland has formed around the lake, which provides great conditions for diverse lives, and surrounding earthiness is favorable for growth of vegetation and restoration of the ecosystem. However, as facilities of the Muan International Airport nearby Changpo Lake are expanding and barns are being constructed, artificialness is gradually increasing. Particularly, since pollution sources such as sport facilities, farm lands and barns are scattered around Changpo Lake, pollutants are flowing in constantly. Accordingly, the results for setting up management areas according to the spatial characteristics and creating natural ecological spaces near Changpo Lake, Taebongcheon stream and Hakgyecheon stream are as follows. First, the creation of a natural eco-friendly waterfront space should be promoted by securing the health of the aquatic ecosystem and restoring species and the ecosystem. In addition, a consultative body needs to be formed to lead local residents to participating in river investigation and monitoring, maintenance, and management through role sharing. Second, the basic direction of the spatial management plan is to keep the unique charm of Changpo Lake, maintain harmony with nature, create diverse waterfront areas, and secure the continuity of Changpo Lake and inflow streams. Moreover, the area should be divided into three zones such as a conservation zone, a restoration zone and a waterfront zone, and for each zone, the preservation of vegetation, the creation of ecological wetlands and restoration of the ecotone and ecological nature need to be promoted. Third, facilities and activity programs for each space of Changpo Lake should be operated for efficient management of protected areas. In order to suit the status of each space, biological habitats, water purification spaces, experiential and learning spaces, and convenience and rest spaces should be organized and designated as research, monitoring, education, and tourism areas. Accordingly, points of interest should be set up within the corresponding area. In this study, there are many parts that need to be supplemented for immediate implementation since the detailed plans and project costs for the promotion of programs by area are not calculated. Therefore, it is necessary to make detailed project plans and consider related projects such as water quality, restoration of habitats, nature learning and observation, and experience of ecological environments based on the categories such as research, monitoring, education and tourism in the future.
