  • The purposes of this study were to determine the functions of actions of the limbs during each of the three support phases of the triple jump and their relationships with the performance of the triple jump. Four elite male triple jumpers were participated as subjects. The statistical analyses used were the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient for establishing relationships and simple regression analyses to determine and compare the relationships between the change of the horizontal velocity and the change of the vertical velocity during different support phases. A level of significance at p<.05 was set. The actions of the arms were responsible for about 25%, 25%, and 30% of the decrease in the horizontal velocity of the whole body center of gravity during the support phases of the hop, step, and jump, respectively. The change in the velocities of the whole body center of gravity due to the actions of the free limbs were significantly related with the whole body center of gravity during each support phase. The action of the support leg was associated with the decrease in the horizontal velocity and the increase in the vertical velocity of the whole body center of gravity during each support phase.

  • Purpose: This study was to explore the hope structures of the newly diagnosed cancer patients by examining the relationships between hope and the three concepts of 'Personal Spirit', 'Risk' and 'Authentic Caring' which composed the multidimensions of the Nekolaichuk and Bruera's hope model. Methods: Data was collected via survey from 32 newly diagnosed cancer patients. The perceived meaning of life (PML) for 'personal spirit', perceived confidence in cure (PCC) for 'risk', and perceived family support (PFS) and perceived support from medical team (PSM) for 'authentic caring' were adapted from the definitions of the concepts in the model. Hope, PML, and PCC were measured with VAS. PFS and PSM were measured with Korean version of 'Cobb's family support scale', which was modified by Kang. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to identify the relationships among the concepts. Results: The significant relationships were revealed between hope and PCC (p<.001), hope and PML (p<.001), PML and PCC (p<.001), PFS and PML (p=.030), and PSM and PML (p=.047). Conclusion: The newly diagnosed cancer patients experience hope in different ways. The cancer patients' hope immediate after diagnosis, however, is most likely to be experienced as seeking balance between uncertainty about cancer treatment and the meaning of life.

  • The purpose of the study was to explore the relationships among the elementary school student's self-control, self-efficacy, and school life adjustment. For achieving the purpose, the study established three research questions: What are the relationships among self-control, self-efficacy, and school life adjustment, is there any statistically significant influence of self-control and self-efficacy on school life adjustment, and is there any mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between self-control and school life adjustment, 276 fifth graders attending three elementary schools in Busan were administrated self-control scale, self-efficacy scale, and school life adjustment scale. The collected data was analyzed by correlation, stepwise multiple regression, and three-step regression analysis. And the regression analyses were separately performed on total and subscale scores. The main results were as the follows. First, there were statistically significant correlations among self-control, self-efficacy including two subscales, and school life adjustment including five subscales. Second, self-control and self-efficacy statistically and significantly influenced school life adjustment and five subscales. Finally, self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between self-control and school life adjustment including five subscales. And discussions on the results were presented.

  • Water samples were collected at 7 sites located along the River Nakdong on 30 occasions. Water qualities, size and fractal dimension ($d_F$) of suspended particles were measured. Laser light scattering method was used to obtain the size and $d_F$ of suspended particles. The average size of particles in this river ranged from $89{\mu}m$ and $169{\mu}m$, which appears to be relatively coarse compared with other rivers worldwide. The average $d_F$ of suspended particles in this study ranged from 1.8 to 1.9. The correlation analysis showed that DO, TN, $NO_3$ and chlorophyll-${\alpha}$ had significant positive relationships with particles size, whereas flow rates and TSS had negative relationships. Interestingly, the factors of which had positive relationships with particles size showed negative relationship with the fractal dimension ($d_F$) of suspended particles. Generally, as the size of particles increased, the fractal dimension of particles decreased which was indicating the shape of the larger particles became more irregular.

  • This study investigated the longitudinal effects of family risk factors, parent-child relationships, and language abilities of children in low-income families in terms of both school adjustment and academic performance. The subjects were 176 children aged 5 to 7 and their mothers. They participated in follow up studies over the next 3 years. The children were tested using the Wechsler Intelligence Scales and language tests; and classroom teachers rated their levels of both school adjustment and academic performance. Mothers reported parent-child relationships, maternal depression, and family economic resources. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation, and structural equation modeling (SEM). Our results indicated that there were direct effects of language abilities, and indirect effects of parent-child relationships and maternal depression upon children's school adjustment and academic performance. It was also revealed that language abilities had a mediating effect between parent-child relationship and school adjustment/ academic performance.
