  • Recently, adjustable CCT(Correlated Color Temperature) luminaire for the human circadian rhythm and room atmosphere has been developed. Accurate CCT control is needed in the luminaire for the human circadian rhythm. Therefore, appropriate CCT calculation method for each of fluorescent lamps and white LEDs was examined using three CCT calculation methods in this study. To make accurate CCT combination, CCT for two different CCT lamps was separately measured. And this study compared and analyzed proportionally calculated CCT value with measured value from the compounded luminaire with the two lamps.

  • LED lighting may cause different sensation and color appearance due to the different spectral power distributions compared to those of conventional lightings. Particularly, the CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) of LED lighting has a major effect on color appearance so that this study conducted an experiment through a subjective evaluation and luminance measurement for effective color appearance in a space. This study performed a subjective evaluation under the seven different LED CCT conditions, and color appearance was evaluated with major five colors in a customized lighting box. In addition, luminance measurement was conducted for each CCT and color condition to compare the results from a subjective evaluation. The results of this study may help to select a proper LED CCT for specific color conditions.

  • This study aims to recommend the proper Color rendering index (CRI), the Correlated Color Temperature (CCT), and illuminance levels of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lighting based on the analysis of the criteria of the current CRI, the CCT, and illuminance levels in merchandising spaces with LED lighting conditions. It would be a basic material to apply in line with user preference for LED merchandising lighting. To this end, it examines relevant literature review on the experiments designed to test whether lighting characteristics affect brightness perception, color appearance, and pleasantness. Highly saturated colors appear brighter than low saturated colors. Two lighting applications - grocery and clothing shop - were created in elaborating the effect of LED lighting characteristics of CRI on color appearance and the CCT and illuminance on pleasantness. The findings show that the criteria of CIE Ra<80 are appropriate to provide better color appearance of illuminated products in terms of LED lighting that can enhance color saturation, particularly for the red color. Furthermore, 2700 K and less than 500 lux for grocery, 4000 K and more than 500 lux for clothing shop are found to be the proper the CCT and illuminance levels respectively to bring better preference under LED lighting.

  • Color reproductions in most ink jet printer are quite different from that of standard CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor display because of the nonlinear characteristic in subtractive color reproduction. Gray scale CCT(correlated color temperature) reproductions in a typical printer are vary with the input RGB level. A simple method for making constant gray scale CCT and gamma value in photo paper is proposed in this paper. The compensation of the CCT with white point of the photo paper under the CIE standard illuminant D65 and color correction has been confirmed using the LUT(look-up table) to compensate the CCT and gamma curve characteristic.

  • White organic LED spectrum for lighting and displaying should be designed for high luminous efficiency as well as good chromaticity coordinate, pleasant correlated color temperature and color rendering. A program based on Matlab was made to make these calculations convenient. The chromaticity coordinate and luminous efficiency was calculated according to the CIE 1931 colorimetric system, while the correlated color temperature(CCT) was calculated based on CIE 1960 UCS diagram. The color rendering characteristics were evaluated according to the CIE Color Rendering Index (CRI), using Ra, Ri and ${\bigtriangleup}E$ from the 14 color samples defined in CIE13.3.

  • Recently, since adjustment systems of various CCT(Correlated Color Temperature) are much developed, lighting environment of indoor has created by such various CCT lighting systems. If an indoor image of fixed CCT will quickly correct images of various CCT, lighting or interior designers can utilize it to persuade his or her clients in the indoor lighting planning process. Therefore, this paper presents fundamental data which are RGB data of seven color images for the correction of image by three different CCT.

  • For two well-known modulation methods, stepwise current modulation (SCM) and pulse width modulation (PWM), the effects of driving current modulation conditions on chromaticity were experimentally investigated in a white LED lighting system. For the experimental implementation of both SCM and PWM, a white LED lighting was fabricated using phosphor converted (PC) white light emitting diodes (LEDs) and a driving circuit module was developed. By using them, the variations of illuminance, color coordinates, and spectrum were evaluated under various forward current conditions. Through the analysis in color coordinates, yellow shift in SCM and blue shift in PWM were observed on chromaticity diagrams with increasing average driving current. In addition, in order to analyze color deviation quantitatively, color distance before and after current increase, and the correlated color temperature (CCT) were calculated. As a result, for the white LED lighting in both modulation conditions, the maximum difference in the calculated CCT was obtained close to 1000 K. It means that careful consideration is required to be taken in the design of illumination systems to avoid serious problems such industrial accidents.

  • We developed the correlated color temperature (CCT) control technique for electrodeless sulfur lamp (ESL) by adding a few milligrams of NaI into sulfur discharge bulb. Nal produces intense Na D-line that changes the CCT of the ESL. We can adjustthe CCT in the range of 8,400 K to 3,600 K. Color rendering index can be maintained between 79 and 90 for the adjustable range of the CCT. the NaI helps the ESL dischargeable at below 0.5 kW of forward microwave power into the bulb. We have shown that this technique did not cause reduction of luminance compared to electrodeless elemental sulfur lamp.

  • This paper examine how CCT affected to writing task performance and EEG through 24 elementary students from in July to September, 2014. The study analyzed EEG that was changed in a task performance under an orange color light and a white color light in a laboratory for stabilization and relaxation. The study results showed that an alpha wave, beta wave, high-beta wave were high under the white color light. The task performance time, however, showed significant fast performance under the orange color light. Although pre-existing low CCT has been considered as typical type for stabilization and relaxation, this study provides that the various applications in the elements of cognition, tasks, and types can affect improvement of task performance and occupation ability.

  • Changes in melatonin concentration levels by differences in CCT of white LED light focused on Spectral Power Distribution (SPD) differences compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light were analyzed. For this, melatonin concentration levels in saliva samples were taken over four different experiments at seven-day intervals. In 71.4% of participants, it was confirmed that melatonin concentration is suppressed by exposure to light, and a slight difference was observed by different CCTs. In addition, Experiment II with a high CCT was relatively high in terms of the melatonin suppression rate compared to Experiment III. A key finding was the possibility that different SPDs under a particular CCT of white LED light compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light could have the same effect on the melatonin suppression.
