This study was carried on the Seasoning Oil production by Autoclaving Method in order to research a developed method. The Raw, Extract states of seasoning vegetables-Garlic, Onion and Ginger were added 40, 60% (w/w) of total amounts to corn salad oil. All samples treated with various conditions were determined physicochemical characteristics by Acid value, Peroxide value, Iodine value, Refractive Index, and Volatile Carbonyl Compound Content during incubating $(40{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$ and heating $(185{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$. The results were obtained as follws; 1. During incubation at $40{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, the order of antioxidative effects among seasoning vegetables was Ginger>Garlic>BHA>Onion and Extract state were more effective man Raw state. also the antioxidative effects of the seasoning vegetables were increased proportionally with the concentration in the Seasoning Oils. 2. In the case of heat treatment $(185{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$, AV, POV, IV and RI of each Seasoning Oil were changed very sharply. The antioxidative effect and Carbonyl Compound Content according to heat treatment differed from the type and concentration of seasoning vegetables in oil. Ginger had the most excellent antioxidative effect among seasoning vegetables, and m any case, the adding states of seasoning vegetables into oils were more effective in Extract man Raw states. 3. According to those results, each Seasoning Oil made from Garlic, Onion, Ginger was shown to have antioxidative properties specially in Ginger-Extract-Seasoning Oil. also the Autoclaving Method was thought to be rational method in preparation of Seasoning Oil.
The essential oil free needles, which were left after distillation of essential oil from various coniferous needles, were fermented with food waste organics in order to use as compost and roughage. Microorganisms for the fermentation were selected from domestic sources such as swine compost, bark compost, and kimchi, etc, and consisted of aerothermophilic bacteria and actinomycetes. The weight reduction ratio of food waste organics treated with the microorganisms was 90% after 30 days treatment, and the fermentation temperature was kept at approximately $45^{\circ}C$. The compost process was really slow due to chemical compounds derived from needles, and it finally took 60 days for complete compost. When 10% of needle compost was mixed with soil for radish growth, the growth indicators such as leaf length and root weight were increased compared with control, while root weight, root width, and root length were inhibited on the addition of 20% needle compost. The nutrient value and digestibility ratio of various essential oil free needles as roughage for ruminant animals were evaluated. The ratio of crude protein for essential oil free needles from Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis) was 10.02%, which was higher than those of rice straw(5.48%) and corn(9.00%). The digestibility ratios of essential oil free needles from Sawara cypress(Chamaecwaris pislfera), Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis), and Japanese Red Pine(Pinus densiflora) was 53%, 34%, 34%, respectively, indicating that those essential oil free needles were considered as excellent roughage.
In this study, we examined the effects of carrier oil type (MCT oil: MO, corn oil: CO, palm oil: PO), pH of dispersion solution, and antioxidants on the chemical degradation of ${\beta}$-carotene in oil-in-water nanoemulsions. The pH of the emulsion had a significant influence on the stability of ${\beta}$-carotene, which showed rapid degradation in emulsions at low pH value and relatively higher stability at high pH values. The influence of the carrier oil type on ${\beta}$-carotene stability was assessed. The rate of ${\beta}$-carotene degradation increased in the following order: CO > PO > MO. The effect of antioxidants on ${\beta}$-carotene degradation was monitored during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks. The rate of ${\beta}$-carotene degradation decreased upon addition of water-soluble (ascorbic acid) or oil-soluble (tocopherol) antioxidants. In general, tocopherol was more effective than ascorbic acid in reducing ${\beta}$-carotene degradation. To utilize this nanoemulsion for producing acidic beverages, adding a higher concentration of antioxidants is required.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dietary linseed oil and canola oil on the deposition n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid in pork. Twelve pigs weighing 50 kg were offered one of four diets based on corn and soybean meal and containing tallow, linseed oil, canola oil or mixed oil (linseed oil plus canola oil). The pigs were slaughtered at approximately 110 kg of their market live weight. Linseed oil, canola oil or mixed oil did not affect any of the three indicators of growth performance-body weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency. Saturated fatty acid content of plasma was the highest in tallow oil group, while the plasma proportion of saturated fatty acid was lowered in linseed oil, canola oil and mixed oil group from 11.84% to 16.54% than tallow group (p<0.05). The plasma n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid was not detected at all in the tallow-fed pigs, while the plasma proportion of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid were higher in linseed oil, canola oil and mixed oil from 4.68% to 12.83% than tallow group (p<0.05). All three lipid supplements containing n-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acid increased the content of pork belly $\alpha$-linolenic acid (18:3n-3) by 9.43% relative to the tallow values (p<0.05). Feeding linseed oil or canola oil increased the n-3 : n-6 ratio in pork belly to 0.68, and increased the polyunsaturated fatty acid : saturated fatty acid ratio to 0.70 (p<0.05). This result showed that feeding linseed oil and canola oil can produce novel functional pork enriched in n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid.
Effects of conjugated linoleic acid(CLA), known as an effective anticarcinogen in several aminal models, on the egg production and egg weight of laying hens, and the weight gains of broilers were investigated. CLA was synthesized from corn oil by the alkaline isomerization method and purified by the low-temperature precipitation method. Diets for laying hens and for broilers were synthesized to meet the specification of their NRC standard rationals. Two separated experiments(Experiment I and II) were conducted for laying hens. in experiment I, 45 hens(300 days of age) were divided into 15 hens per treatment group; each hen was housed in wired cage located in a temperature and humidity-controlled house and adopted to the control diet. One week later, each group was subjected to one the four treatment groups for 5 weeks : control, 1.0% CLA, 2.5% CLA and 5.0% CLA diets. Diet and water were ad libitum. The condition of experiment II was the same as that of experiment I except for the addition of 5% corn oil diet and the extension of feeding period to 7 weeks. Egg production, egg weight and feed intake were recorded every week. Forty-five broilers(10day of age) were adopted to the control diet for a week and then switched to the treatment diets for 5 weeks : control, 1.0% CLA, 2.5% CLA, 5% CLA and 5% corn oil, Body weight and feed intake of broilers were measured every week. Diets supplemented with various amounts of CLA enhanced the egg production and increased the egg weight regardless laying hen's age(150 days or 300 days) as compared to control diet. The most effective diet for the egg production and egg weight of young hens(150 days of age) was found to be 1.0% CLA diet, but relatively higher CLA diet(2.5% CLA) was required for old hens (300 day of age) to obtain similar results as seen in younger hens. All hens treated with CLA ate greater amount of feed than control hens. Broilers treated with various amount of CLA ate less feed as compared to control ones, but the body weight gain was greater than the control broilers. These results indicate that CLA enhanced the egg production and agg weight of laying hens, and increased the body weight gain of broilers with less diet consumption.
BACKGROUND: Emission of nitrous oxide (N2O) from the soil is expected to depend on the types of nitrogen fertilizer used. Biochar has recently been proposed as a potential mitigation of climate change by reducing the N2O emission. Although laboratory studies reported that biochar applications could reduce N2O emission, the number of field-based studies is still limited. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of biochar on N2O emission when different nitrogen fertilizers were applied in corn cultivated field. METHODS AND RESULTS: The field experiment consisted of six treatments: urea fertilizer without biochar (U), ammonium sulfate fertilizer without biochar (A), oil cake fertilizer without biochar (O), urea fertilizer with biochar (U+B), ammonium sulfate fertilizer with biochar (A+B), and oil cake fertilizer with biochar (O+B). Biochar was applied at a rate of 10 t/ha. Greenhouse gas fluxes were measured during growing seasons using static vented chambers. The cumulative N2O emissions were 0.99 kg/ha in the U, 1.23 kg/ha in the A, 3.25 kg/ha in the O, 1.19 kg/ha in the U+B, 0.86 kg/ha in the A+B, and 1.55 kg/ha in the O+B. CONCLUSION: It was found that N2O emission was related to application of both nitrogen fertilizer type and biochar. In particular, the N2O reduction effect was the highest in the corn field incorporated with biochar when oil cake was applied to the soil.

Three experiments were carried out to determine the nutritional value and to verify the pig performance in growing and finishing phases (30 to 90 kg) fed on diets containing common corn (CC), high-lysine corn (HLC) and high-oil corn (HOC). In the total digestibility trial (Exp. I) 12 barrows were used. Values of digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) as-fed basis for CC, HLC and HOC, were: 3,396 and 3,275 kcal/kg; 3,248 and 3,139 kcal/kg; 3,445 and 3,308 kcal/kg, respectively. In order to determine the apparent and true ileal digestibility coefficients of amino acids, as well as the values of true digestible amino acids of the CC, HLC and HOC, an ileal digestibility trial was done (Exp. II) with T-cannulated barrows ("T" simple). The treatments consisted of three diets, with one of them as the sole source of protein (CC, HLC and HOC). In the performance experiment (Exp. III), 36 crossbred pigs, allotted in a completely randomized design with three treatments and 12 replications were used. Treatments consisted of three diets: 1 - CC; 2 - HLC and 3 - HOC. It was observed no difference for performance and carcass variables among the corns with different nutritional profiles. Results of the three experiments highlighted the importance of segregating corns in their real chemical and energetic composition as well as the values of true digestible amino acids for formulating diets for growing and finishing pigs.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of water potential by PEG treatment on germination and quantitative changes of seed storage reserves of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], peanut(Arachjs hypogaea L.) and corn(Zea may L.). Water potential of PEG(M.W. 10, 000) solution as germination media was 0.0, -0.2, and -0.5MPa. The highest moisture uptake rate was found in soybean seedlings among three crops. Moisture content of seedlings of three crops was decreased at -0.5MPa treatment and seedling length was delayed with water potential decrement. As water potential decreased, decreasing rate of protein content of the seedlings compared to seeds was declined in soybean and peanut. Decreasing rate of starch content of the seedlings was decreased in corn at -0.5MPa treatment. Increasing rate of sugar content of the seedlings was markedly decreased at -0.5MPa treatment in all crops. The results of this experiment showed that availability of moisture and synthesis of sugar for seed germination were influenced below -0.5MPa water potential in three crops.
To compare the hypolipidemic effects of n6 linoleic acid. n3 $\alpha$-linolenic acid and n3 eicosapentaenoic acid in rats fed high carbohydrate(70% Cal) diet. male Sprague Dawley rats were fed different experimental diets for 6 weeks. which were different only in fatty acid composition. The dietary fats were beer tallow(BT) as a source of saturated fatty acid (SFA), corn oil(CO) for n6 linoleic acid(LA), perilla oil(PO) for n3 $\alpha$-linolenic acid(LL) and fish oil(FO) for n3 eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) Plasma total cholesterol(Chol) level was increased by n6 LA but decreased by n3 LL and n3 EPA and most effectively reduced by n3 EPA. HDL-Chol level was raised by n6 LA, but there was no significant change in HDL-Chol levels by n3 LL and was lowered by n3 EPA. Plasma TG level was reduced by n6 LA, but lipogenesis in liver was not affected by n6 LA. However, plasma TG level was lowered by n3 LL and EPA. Both lipogenic enzyme activity and liver TC level were also decreased by n3 PUFA. The relative proportions of TG in VLDL was significantly lowered by n3 EPA. but the proportions of Apo B in VLDL was not changed by n3 EPA. Overall. the hypolipidemic effect was in the order of EPA+ DHA(n3) >LL(n3) >LA(n6) and fish oil and perilla oil rich in n3 PUFA may have important nutritional applications in the prevention and treatment of hypertriglyceridemia.
