  • Nowadays Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) is widely used in different industries such as chemical, food and pharmaceutical process and refrigeration due to the efficient heat transfer performance, extreme compact design and efficient use of the construction material. In present study, discussed main conception of plate heat exchanger and applied in vacuum. PHE and aimed apply in the fresh water generator which installed in ship to desalinate seawater to fresh water use heat from engines. The experiment is proceeded to investigate the heat transfer between cold and hot fluid stream at different flow rate and supply temperature of hot fluid. Generated fresh water as outcome of the system. PHE is an important part of a condensing or evaporating system. One of common assumptions in basic heat exchanger design theory is that fluid is to be distributed uniformly at the inlet of each fluid side and throughout the core. However, in practice, flow mal-distribution is more common and can significantly reduce the heat exchanger performance. The flow and heat transfer are simulated by the k-$\varepsilon$ standard turbulence model. Moreover, the simulation contacted flow maldistribution in a PHE with 6 channels.

  • This paper describes a design of cryptographic processor that implements the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) block cipher algorithm "Rijndael". To achieve high throughput rate, a sub-pipeline stage is inserted into a round transformation block, resulting that two consecutive round functions are simultaneously operated. For area-efficient and low-power implementation, the round transformation block is designed to share the hardware resources for encryption and decryption. An efficient on-the-fly key scheduler is devised to supports the three master-key lengths of 128-b/192-b/256-b, and it generates round keys in the first sub-pipeline stage of each round processing. The Verilog-HDL model of the cryptoprocessor was verified using Xilinx FPGA board and test system. The core synthesized using 0.35-${\mu}m$ CMOS cell library consists of about 25,000 gates. Simulation results show that it has a throughput of about 520-Mbits/sec with 220-MHz clock frequency at 2.5-V supply.

  • There are two a approaches for the Cognitive Radio(CR) development. One is 'Full CR', which Joseph Mitola III proposed, and another is 'Spectrum CR', which is currently being standardized. The target approach of this paper is the latter and we develop a Cognitive Engine(CE) and simulated a channel set management(CSM), which is a core function of CE. The Channel set management evaluates channel quality and Incumbent User(IU) vacancy possibility and classifies the channel set, which is performed by using channel state history. Especially, a very important function for the channel set management is a channel state prediction and this paper proposed a Hidden Markov Model(HMM) based channel state prediction and a method for increasing performance. Also, we applied the proposed method into our simulator and simulated channel state prediction. Through the simulation, we verified as we applied our proposed scheme, the performance of channel state prediction gets better and through comparing with RS and SS, we verified the HMM based Channel state prediction is better.

  • It is a widespread concern that electrical interconnection based network-on-chip (NoC) will ultimately face the limitation in communication bandwidth, transmission latency and power consumption in the near future. With the development of silicon photonics technology, a hybrid optical network-on-chip (HONoC) which embraces both electrical- and optical interconnect, is emerging as a promising solution to overcome these problems. Today's leading edge systems-on-chips (SoCs) comprise heterogeneous many-cores for higher energy efficiency, therefore, extended study beyond regular topology based NoC is required. This paper proposes an energy and latency optimization topology design technique for HONoC taking into account the traffic characteristics of target applications. The proposed technique is implemented with genetic algorithm and simulation results show the reduction by 13.84% in power loss and 28.14% in average latency, respectively.

  • Modern GPU can execute general purpose computation on the graphic processing unit, and provide high performance by exploiting many core on GPU. To run AES algorithm efficiently, parallel computational resources are required. However, computational resource of CPU architecture are not enough to cryptographic algorithm such as AES whereas GPU architecture has mass parallel computation resources. Therefore, this paper reduce the time to execute AES by employing parallel computational resource on GPGPU. Unfortunately, AES cannot utilize computational resource on GPGPU since it isn't suitable to GPGPU architecture. In this paper, IPC based dynamic SM management technique are proposed to efficiently execute AES on GPGPU. IPC based dynamic SM management can increase and decrease the number of active SMs by using IPC in run-time. According to simulation results, proposed technique improve the performance by increasing resource utilization compared to baseline GPGPU architecture. The results show that AES improve the performance by 41.2% on average.

  • The Wolsong-1 (W-1) Phase-B pre-simulations were carried out in preparation for tests to be conducted for the restart of the reactor after a major refurbishment project that included replacement of the pressure tube. These pre-simulations for Wolsong-1 Phase-B differ from those in the past that were performed for the Wolsong-1,2,3,4 tests in that these tests use the WIMS/DRAGON/RFSP-IST code suite for verification of the tests and gadolinium instead of the traditional PPV/MULTICELL/RFSP code system and boron as poison in the moderator system. The use of gadolinium is deemed not to have domestically accumulated experience gained from the previous Phase-B tests. Thus, it is appropriate to conduct a study in order to gain a correct understanding and interpretation of potential differences in test results stemming from using gadolinium rather than boron. Although the calibration of the reactivity device will not be noticeably different using boron and gadolinium at a constant moderator temperature, the temperature dependency of the neutronic behavior due to the presence of gadolinium in the moderator system might be pronounced. The results of the pre-simulations using gadolinium revealed that the moderator temperature reactivity coefficients indeed showed significant differences in comparison with those with boron. In order to secure the validity of the analysis results, the newly acquired WIMS/DRAGON/RFSP-IST code suite was verified against the W-2,3,4 Phase-B test results. The results of the new code suite verifications revealed some overall improvements in accuracy; justification of the use of the code can be claimed for the validation of the W-1 Phase-B test results.

  • Silica glass is a core material for optical fiber in optical telecommunications, but its centrosymmetry eliminates the second order nonlinearity. But it is experimentally well known that the space charge polarization induces the Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) when a strong DC voltage is applied to silica glass for a long period of time with metal blocking electrodes. In this report, the results of a theoretical calculation of the nonlinear optical property caused by the space charge polarization, and a model of a numerical analysis to predict the small chance in nonlinear optical property as functions of time and space are provided. Assuming that amorphous silica is a solid state electrolyte and sodium ion is the only mobile charge carrier, 'Finite Difference Method' was employed for modeling of numerical analysis. The distributions of the concentration of sodium ion and electric field as functions of a normalized length of the specimen and a normalized applied voltage were simulated.

  • The Burj Dubai Project will be the tallest structure ever built by man; when completed the tower will be more than 700 meter tall and more than 160 floors. While the early integration of aerodynamic shaping and wind engineering considerations played a major role in the architectural massing and design of this multi-use/residential tower, where mitigating and taming the dynamic wind effects was one of the most important design criteria, the material selection for the structural systems of the tower was also a major consideration and required detailed evaluation of the material technologies and skilled labor available in the market at the time Concrete was selected for its strength, stiffness, damping, redundancy, moldability, free fireproofing, speed of construction, and cost effectiveness. In addition, the design challenges of using concrete for the design of the structural system components will be addressed. The focus on this paper will also be on the early planning of the concrete works of the Burj Dubai Project.

  • To improve the conventional illustrated fish book, this paper introduces the concept of an electronic illustrated fish book which applies IT techniques to the conventional one, and proposes the image retrieval for it. The image retrieval is a core technology of the electronic illustrated fish book and make it overwhelm the conventional one. Since fishes, even if the same kind, have different features in shape, color, and texture and the same fish can even have different features by its pose or environment at that time for taking a picture, the conventional image retrieval, that uses simple features in shape, color, and texture, is not suitable for the electronic illustrated fish book. The proposed image retrieval adopts detail shape features extracted from head, body, and tail of a fish and different weights are given to the features depending on their invariability. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is far superior to the conventional algorithm.

  • Future combat systems can be represented as the NCW (Network Centric Warefare), which is based on the concept of Sensor-to-Shooter. A wireless video sensor networking technology, one of the core components of NCW, has been actively applied for the purpose of tactical surveillance. In such a surveillance sensor network, multi-composite sensors, especially consisting of image sensors are utilized to improve reliability for intrusion detection and enemy tracing. However, these sensors may cause a problem of requiring very high network capacity and energy consumption. In order to alleviate this problem, this paper proposes an image data transmission scheme based on resource reservation. The proposed scheme can make it possible to have more reliable image data transmission by choosing proper multiple interfaces, while trying to control resolution and compression quality of image data based on network resource availability. By the performance analysis using NS-3 simulation, we have confirmed the transmission reliability as well as energy efficiency of the proposed scheme.
