Through the Korea-Germany joint project, a novel method, that is, an optical Corescanner (Stereophotogramrnetry) of acquisition, evaluation and display of struct-ural elements of drill cores has heen realized. AH scannable cores can he digitally stored on a storage device(dat tape, optical disc etc.) and available for further an-alysis using diverse software facilities. The use of this scanning technique was d-emonstrated on the cores derived from the metamorphosed sedimentary rocks in our country. Recent studies showed a great potential of using the Corescanner with high resolution not only for avoiding ambiguities of drill log interpretation due to the capability of accurate quantative analysis of structural elements, but also for replacing the cores themselves as a data-base one via completely copying of the core outlook.
Drifter is equipment which is hard to localize. Performance of prototype hasn't performed well compared to product of leading companies even though advanced foreign firm's product were dead copied. This study shows cases of approaching the factor which produces performance gap through drifter hydraulic analysis model which is core component of rock drill. Progression of procedure is following. 1) Securing reliability of the analysis model by comparing impact test result with analysis result. 2) Drawing a graph which indicates performance gap between prototype and drifter of advanced foreign firm by using analysis model. 3) Approaching the factor which produces performance gap with analysing variable of the analysis model. Software used for this analysis is SimulationX.

In this paper, the heat transfer characteristics of PCB (Printed Circuit Board) with cabon CCL (Copper Claded Layer) were studied through experiments and numerical analysis to compare of PCBs with conventional the FR-4 core and heavy copper cores. For study, samples are producted with HDI (High Density Interconnection) PCB of mobile phone with variations of thickness of core materials and grades of carbon material to evaluate heat transfer characteristics respectively. From this research results, heat transfer characteristics of the carbon core was rather low than heavy copper, but better than FR-4 core. In addition, even though the carbon and heavy copper core contributed on the heat transfer characteristics as their thickness increases, FR-4 cores disturbed heat transfer characteristics as it's thickness increases. Therefore, carbon core is recommendable to improve the heat transfer characteristics of the PCB because heavy copper core has much disadvantages such as increasing of wear of drill, the weight of PCB, and manufacturing cost by additional insulation materials for electrical insulation.

The low-flow grouting injection technique, the target construction method for this study, is a method of pouring mortar into the ground by non-emission replacement principle, which can be expected to increase the density of the ground, and, in some cases, be used as a base file using the strength of the high injection solids, along with low noise, low pollution, and high durability. To verify that the dynamic characteristics of the ground are improved by the low-flow injection technique, the test work was conducted on the site and physical tests were performed, and the quality of the improvement formed in the ground was verified through the indoor test on the core and core recovery rate was analyzed. The density logs test layer calculated the volume density of the ground layer by using the Compton scattering of gamma-rays, and the sonic logs was tested on the ground around the drill hole using a detector consisting of sonar and receiver devices inside the drill hole. As a result of the measurement of the change in physical properties (density and sonic logs) before and after grouting, both properties were basically increased after infusion of grout agent. However, the variation in density increase was greater than the increase in speed after grouting, and the ground density measurement method was thought to be effective in measuring the fill effect of the filler. Strength and core recovery rates were measured from specimens taken after the age of 28 days, and the results of the test results of the diffusion and strength test of the improved products were verified to satisfy the design criteria, thereby satisfying the seismic performance reinforcement.
Concrete is one of the most widely used materials as the shielding structures of a nuclear facilities. It is also the most generated radioactive waste in quantity while dismantling facilities. Since the concrete captures neutrons and generates various radionuclides, radiation measurement and analysis of the sample was fulfilled prior to dismantle facilities. An HPGe detector is used in general for the radiation measurement, and effective correction factors such as geometrical correction factor, self-absorption correction, and absolute detector efficiency have to be applied to the measured data to decide exact radioactivity of the sample. Correction factors are obtained by measuring data using a standard source with the same geometry and chemical states as the sample under the same measurement conditions. However, it is very difficult to prepare standard concrete sources because concrete is limited in pretreatment due to various constituent materials and high density. In addition, the concrete sample obtained by core drill is a volumetric source, which requires geometric correction for sample diameter and self absorption correction for sample density. Therefore in recent years, many researchers are working on the calculation of effective correction factors using Monte carlo simulation instead of measuring them using a standard source. In this study we calculated, using Geant4, one of the Monte carlo codes, the correction factors for the various diameter and density of the concrete core sample at the gamma ray energy emitted from the nuclides 152Eu and 60Co, which are the most generated in radioactive concrete.

The uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of rock is a basic parameter in underground engineering design. The disadvantages of this commonly employed laboratory testing method are untimely testing, difficulty in performing core testing of broken rock mass and long and complicated onsite testing processes. Therefore, the development of a fast and simple in situ rock UCS testing method for field use is urgent. In this study, a multi-function digital rock drilling and testing system and a digital core bit dedicated to the system are independently developed and employed in digital drilling tests on rock specimens with different strengths. The energy analysis is performed during rock cutting to estimate the energy consumed by the drill bit to remove a unit volume of rock. Two quantitative relationship models of energy analysis-based core drilling parameters (ECD) and rock UCS (ECD-UCS models) are established in this manuscript by the methods of regression analysis and support vector machine (SVM). The predictive abilities of the two models are comparatively analysed. The results show that the mean value of relative difference between the predicted rock UCS values and the UCS values measured by the laboratory uniaxial compression test in the prediction set are 3.76 MPa and 4.30 MPa, respectively, and the standard deviations are 2.08 MPa and 4.14 MPa, respectively. The regression analysis-based ECD-UCS model has a more stable predictive ability. The energy analysis-based rock drilling method for the prediction of UCS is proposed. This method realized the quick and convenient in situ test of rock UCS.

In this study, we aims to develop the machining technology for the ultra precision surface and profile accuracy. For this purpose, we construct the electrolytic in process grinding system (ELID grinding) and apply to the cylindrical and internal grinding. Through the various machining experiments such as SCM steel., ceramics, tungsten carbide etc., we have obtained nanometer surface roughness. And we have applied this mirror grinding technique to hydraulic manual valve and mold core of mini disk optical pick-up base. For the development of fine mechanical part machining technology, e have made multi fiber optical connector using fine grinding technology. And constructed micro drilling system with process monitoring system which is possible to drill 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter hole.

One of the critical design problems involved in deep tunnelling in brittle rock, is the creation of surface spalling damage and breakouts. If weak fault zone is developed in deep tunnel, squeezing problem is added to the problems. According to the results of ground investigation in the study area, hard granitic rockmass and distinguished high angle fault zone are distributed on the tunnel level over 400m depth. To analyse the probability of brittle failure and squeezing, ground characterization with special lab. and field test were carried out. By the results, probability of brittle failures like spalling and rock burst is very low. But squeezing may be probable, if weak fault zone observed surface and drill core is extended to designed tunnel level.
Surface subsidence is one of the problems caused by mined out caverns. Depending on the geologic conditions and mining methods, subsidence can occur in various forms. This report describes the ground stability assessment for the mining induced subsidence area where unfilled caverns still exist abandoned. Geologic features which could affect the stability of the ground were investigated and all the possible geophysical methods were employed to obtain data that could explain the state of the ground in question. Basic rock tests were conducted from the drill cores and rock mass classification was performed by core logging and borehole camera investigation. Numerical analyses were carried out to predict the ground stability using data obtained by various investigations. The result could have been more reliable if in-situ stress were measure and reflected in the numerical analysis.

Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is a promising water management strategy for securing stable water resources to overcome water shortage and water quality deterioration caused by global environmental changes. A MAR demonstration site was selected at Imgok-ri, Sangju-si, Korea, based on screening for the frequency of drought events and local water supply situations. The abundant groundwater discharging from a nearby abandoned coal mine is one of the potential recharge water sources for the MAR implementation. However, it has elevated levels of arsenic (~12 ㎍/L). In this study, the potential of the natural attenuation of arsenic by the field geological media was investigated using batch and column experiments. The adsorption and desorption parameters were obtained for two drill core samples (GM1; 21.8~22.8 m and GM2; 26.0~27.8 m depth) recovered from the potentially water-conducting fracture-zones in the injection well. The effluent arsenic concentrations were monitored during the continuous flow of the mine drainage water through the columns packed with the core samples. GM2 removed about 60% of arsenic in the influent (0.1 mg-As/L) while GM1 removed about 20%. The results suggest that natural attenuation is an acitive process occurring during the MAR operation, potentially lowering the arsenic level in the mine drainage water below the regulatory standard for drinking water. This study hence demonstrates that using the mine drainage water as the recharge water source is a viable option at the MAR demonstration site.
