Cu-based leadframe sheets were oxidized ic a hot alkaline solution to black-oxide layer on the surface and molded with epoxy molding compound(EMC), and finally machined to form sandwiched double-cantilever beam(SDCB) and sandwiched Brazil-nut(SBN)specimers to measure the adhesion strength of leadframe-EMC interface. The SDCB and the SBN specimens were designed to measure the adhesion strength in terms fracture toughness under puasi-mode I and mixed mode loadinf, respectively. After the tests, fracture surfaces were analyzed paths were observed in the SDCB-tested speciments, failure paths varied with crack speed and loading conditions.

In order to predict a remaining life of a plant, it is necessary to select the components that are critical to the plant life. The remaining life of those components shall be evaluated by considering the aging effect of materials used as well as numerous factors. However, when evaluating reliability of nuclear structural components, some problems are quite formidable because of lack of information such as operating history, material property change and uncertainty in damage models. Accordingly, if structural integrity and safety are evaluated by the deterministic fracture mechanics approach, it is expected that the results obtained are too conservative to perform a rational evaluation of plant life. The probabilistic fracture mechanics approaches are regarded as appropriate methods to rationally evaluate the plant life since they can consider various uncertainties such as sizes and shapes of cracks and degradation of material strength due to the aging effects. The objective of this study is to evaluate the structural integrity for a reactor pressure vessel under the small break loss of coolant accident by applying the deterministic and probabilistic fracture mechanics. The deterministic fracture mechanics analysis was performed using the three dimensional finite element model. The probabilistic integrity analysis was based on the Monte Carlo simulation. The selected random variables are the neutron fluence on the vessel inside surface, the content of copper, nickel, and phosphorus in the reactor pressure vessel material, and initial RTNDT.
Amalgam is one of the most commonly used dental restoration material because of its convenience, economic and physical properties. But microleakage in the tooth and amalgam interface has been its major problem, and many efforts have been made to overcome this shortcoming. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of various liners on microleakage of amalgam restoration. Cavities were prepared on the buccal or lingual surface of ninety sound, extracted human premolars and six different liners (Tubulitec$^{(R)}$, Superbond D-liner II Plus$^{(R)}$, Superbond D-liner II Plus$^{(R)}$ with polymer, Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus$^{(R)}$, Copalite$^{(R)}$, No liner) were unapplied according to manufacturer's instructions and amalgam had been condensed immediately. The specimens were thermocycled by dipping in methylene blue dye at $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ for 1500 cycles. The amalgam-tooth interface was examined under stereobinocular microscope and the dye penetration was scored. The results were as follows : 1. The Tubulitec$^{(R)}$ group showed less microleakage than no liner or Copalite$^{(R)}$ group (p<0.01). 2. The Tubulitec$^{(R)}$, Superbond D-liner II Plus$^{(R)}$, Superbond D-liner II Plus$^{(R)}$ with polymer and Scotch bond Multipurpose Plus$^{(R)}$ groups were not significantly different. 3. The Copalite$^{(R)}$ and Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus$^{(R)}$ groups were not significantly different. Using the polystyrene liner and resin liners under admixed type of high-copper amalgam restoration significantly reduced microleakage in the tooth-amalgam interface. Further clinical studies on polystyrene liner are recommended.
The purpose of this study was to observe corrosion characteristics of six dental amalgams and was to analyse corrosion products electrochemically. After each amalgam alloy and Hg was triturated as the direction of the manufacturer by using mechanical amalgamator, the triturated mass was inserted into the cylinderical metal mold ($12{\times}10mm$) and was condensed with 160kg/$cm^2$ by using the hydrolic press. The specimen was removed from the mold and was stored at room temperature for 1 week, and was polished with amalgam polishing kit. The anodic and cathodic polarization curve was obtained by using cyclic voltammetric method with 3-electrode potentiostat in saline for each amalgam and Ag, Sn, Cu plate specimen at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$. The potential sweep range was -1.7V~0. 4V(vs SCE) in working electrode and scan rate was 50mV/s and the exposed surface area of each specimen to the electrolytic solution was $0.79cm^2$. The results were as follows. 1. In anodic-cathodic polarization curve of amalgam specimens, two anodic current rising areas and two cathodic current peaks were obtained at the low Cu amalgam(CF, CS) specimen and three anodic current rising areas and three cathodic current peaks were obtained at the high Cu amalgam (TY, DS, HV) specimen. 2. As this compared with the anodic and cathodic current peak potentials of Sn, Cu and Ag specimen, the first cathodic current peak I c was caused by the reduction of divalent tin salt, second cathodic current peak IIIc results from the reduction of quadravalent tin salt, and third cathodic current peak me results from the reduction of copper salt. 3. As reverse potential sweeping was done repeatedly, anodic current was decreased slightly in all amalgam specimens.
Tomb No. 1 (Donghachong) of the Buyeo Neungsan-ri Tomb complex (listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site), is a royal tomb of the Baekje Sabi Period. One wooden coffin unearthed there is an important relic of the funerary culture of the Baekje. This study examines the production techniques of gilt-bronze objects attached to the wooden coffin excavated from Donghachong. The base metal of the gilt-bronze object is pure copper, with single α phase crystals in a heterogeneous form containing annealing twins; Au and Hg are detected in the gilt layer. We suggest that the surface of the forging copperplate is gilded using a mercury amalgam technique; it is thought that the annealing twins of the base material formed during the heat treatment process for the sheet metal. The gilt layer is three to five times thicker for the gilt-bronze objects found near the foot of the coffin than those near the head. We estimate the plating process is carried out at least three times because three layers are identified on the plate near the head. Therefore, it is likely that the materials and methods used to construct the gilt-bronze objects found in different parts of the coffin are the same, but the number of platings is different. This research confirms the metal crafting techniques used in Baekje by the examination of production techniques of these gilt-bronze objects. Further, our paper presents an important example of restoration and reconstruction for a museum exhibition, through effective use of scientific analysis and investigation.
An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the effects of different working fluids on the behavior and thermal performance of a hi-directional thermodiode. The thermodiode was made up of two rectangular loops mounted between a collector plate and a radiator plate. Rotatable joints between the horizontal and inclined segments of the loops enable easy alteration of the direction of heat transfer. The loops and the tank were filled with a working fluid for effective heat transfer when the thermodiode was forwarded biased. Six different working fluids were tested with thermal conductivity values ranging from 0.1 to $0.56W/m-^{\circ}C$, thermal expansion coefficient values ranging from $1.8\;{\times}10^{-4}$ to $1.3\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;K^{-1}$, and kinematic viscosity values ranging from $0.65\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ to $100\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;m^2/s$. Especially, mixtures of $Al_2O_3$ (30nm Particle) in deionized water have been tested for the volumetric ratios of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.1, 0.2%. Each experiment was carried out after the loop was filled with a working fluid for effective heat transfer and the thermodiode was forwarded biased. The solar thermodiode was heated by a radiant heater consisting of 20 halogen lamps that generated a heat flux of about $1000\;W/m^2$ on the collector surface. Results are given in terms of temperature development in different parts of the loop as heat is delivered from its hot end to the surrounding atmosphere by the radiator made of copper plates.
Effects of coating treatment of metallic Cu film on SiC for Al/SiC composite were studied. The Copper was deposited on SiC by electroless plating method. Al/sic composite was fabricated at temperature range of $670^{\circ}C$ to 90$0^{\circ}C$ under vacuum atmosphere. The wetting behavior of Al/SiC composite were analysed by SEM and XRD. The coating treatment on SiC improved wettability of Al melt on SiC considerably comparing to the non coated SiC. This improved wettability seems strongly concerned to the increase of chemical reactivity between coated layer and Al matrix. The improvement of wettability of Al melt on the Cu coated SiC was closely related to in the initial stage of reaction. The metallic film played an important role in reducing the interfacial free energy and breaking down the aluminum oxide film through the reaction with Al melt. The wetting behavior of the as-received SiC with Al melt was not uniform, indicated by the contact angles from less than $97^{\circ}$to more than $97^{\circ}$.

Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas have recently garnered much attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties that are sometimes significantly different from those of low pressure plasmas. It can offer many possible application areas including nano and bio/medical areas. Many different types of plasma sources have been developed for specific needs, which can be one of the important merits of the atmospheric pressure plasmas since characteristics of the produced plasma depend significantly on operating parameters such as driving frequency, supply gas type, driving voltage waveform, gas flow rate, gas composition, geometrical factor etc. Among many source configurations, parallel plate type geometry is one of the simplest configurations so that it can offer many insights for understanding basic underlying physics. Traditionally, the parallel plate type set up has been studied actively for understanding low pressure plasma physics along with extensive employment in industries for the same reason. By considering that understanding basic physics, in conjunction with plasma-surface interactions especially for nano & bio materials, should be pursued in parallel with applications, we investigated atmospheric pressure discharge characteristics in a parallel plate type capacitive discharge source with two parallel copper electrodes of 60 mm in diameter and several millimeters in gap distance. In this presentation, some plasma characteristics by varying many operating variables such as inter-electrode distance, gas pressure, gas composition, driving frequency etc will be discussed. The results may be utilized for plasma control for widening application flexibility.
The fungi associated with termites secrete enzymes such as laccase (multi-copper oxidase) that can degrade extracellular wood matrix. Laccase uses molecular oxygen as an electron acceptor to catalyze the degradation of organic compounds. Owing to its ability to transfer electrons from the cathodic electrode to molecular oxygen, laccase has the potential to be a biocatalyst on the surface of the cathodic electrode of a microbial fuel cell (MFC). In this study, a two-chamber MFC using the laccase-producing fungus Galactomyces reessii was investigated. The fungus cultured on coconut coir was placed in the cathode chamber, while an anaerobic microbial community was maintained in the anode chamber fed by industrial rubber wastewater and supplemented by sulfate and a pH buffer. The laccase-based biocathode MFC (lbMFC) produced the maximum open circuit voltage of 250 mV, output voltage of 145 mV (with a $1,000{\Omega}$ resistor), power density of $59mW/m^2$, and current density of $278mA/m^2$, and a 70% increase in half-cell potential. This study demonstrated the capability of laccase-producing yeast Galactomyces reessii as a biocatalyst on the cathode of the two-chamber lbMFC.
